BENEATH THE WOODS MASTERPOST

Premise:

Maxwell Kanbayashi has always been able to see ghosts – and has always been scared of them. But when he discovers that this ability is something he, a human, shouldn't have, he fights to uncover where this ability came from, unearthing a mystery tying him to a long-dead world and an eldritch god obsessed with fulfilling a long held debt. If he uncovers the truth, will his world be able to withstand what horrors await on the other side?

Story Format: I will be releasing the story as a multimedia illustrated novel project on Tapas, Webtoon and on here once I have updates ready! (I'm aiming to complete about the first 4 chapters?) The project will feature illustrations, comic pages, animations / animatics, voice acting and an ARG! (Because. I like complicated projects LMAO)

The story will initially be in written form only (as I have to write the chapters first then make all of the additional stuff), but those will be up on my Patreon and Ao3!

Chapters: Chapters will go up on Ao3 as I finish releasing the illustrated novel versions of each chapter. Chapters 1 - 3 are available on Ao3 now but chapters 1 - 5 are available to free members on Patreon.

Any trigger warnings for the series as a whole? Emotional abuse (specifically from parental figures) and body horror! I'll add more as I think of them, but specific ones for each chapter will be included before the chapter itself!

Polaris was given a mission a long time ago, a painful mission to keep the world in check and make sure the gods' will was enacted across the universe. To the world, he IS the villain. But he is not the villain of this story.

There's a light inside of Polaris that the world has tried to snuff out. They have failed again and again and again. Because, no matter who or what they become, Polaris always cares about people – and he doesn't want them to suffer like he has.

Maybe someone out there will finally see past the villainous facade and find out, beneath everything the world has made him into, who he really is.

I keep forgetting to talk about my novel so here's an update lol

As announced a few months ago, I'm turning my novel into an illustrated novel series that's going up on Tapas and Webtoon later this year! So far, I've completed the first chapter and half of chapter 2.

Along with that, chapters 1 - 5 of the novel are available on my Patreon! Patreons get chapter 5 early while free members can read up to chapter 4.
