FOLKLORE + A NATURAL LOVE THAT DIES IN THE CITY

On her eighth studio album, folklore, Taylor Swift contrasts the unrestrained beginning of love in nature to the eventual death of love in the city. She describes the childish secret-keeping between friends when there are no real consequences for privacy; then goes on to explain how her New York lover broke away from her as scrutiny and secret-keeping amped into destructive. With the album’s bonus song, the lakes, Swift expresses a deep desire to return to nature and be at peace with herself and her muse; essentially to reset a tumultuous timeline.
