Colours as adjectives in Tunisian Arabic
colours' names indicate colours but also it can have other meanings that are important to know imo.
أزرق / زرقاء [blue]
means bad and exhausting.
example: عمناول تعدّالي عام أزرق (a'mnewel ta'adeli a'am azraq) = last year has been a bad (blue) year
أكحل / كحلاء [black]
means very very bad. it's so bad we usually avoid using this as an adjective bc we believe it'll bring even more bad lack, this is an unsaid rule. you get taught this as a child.
أحمر / حمراء [red]
it's usually related to either violence or pleasure. There's an intensity in this adjective.
example: البارح كانت ليلة حمراء (elberah kenet lila hamra) = last night was a "red" night.
could mean last night you had a lot of fun in the club or last night you had a violent fight. it depends on the context.
أخضر [green]
means prosperous and full of health, good fortune, etc. usually used in the wishes of a new (hijri and amazigh) year.
example: إن شاء الله يكون عام أخضر (inshallah ykun a'am akhder) = hope it will be a "green" (=good) year.
as you may have noticed, these are used almost always to describe time. can't be relevant in other contexts.

"ya ain charrad" sung by a group of women from Sidi Bouzid, south of Tunisia. the language used is Shilha, an amazigh language that is now endangered. most of its speakers are old people, and this really saddens me. part of my family are from there, yet it was not passed to us (due to many reasons)..
