How to Choose the Right Style of Windows for Your Home
Choosing the right windows for your home can be a daunting process. Â There are many factors to consider, including the materials to use and how many panes of glass to use.
Getting the right materials isnât a simple process.  The commonly used materials include wood, aluminum, vinyl, and fiberglass.  Wood frames are a great choice if youâre doing a remodel as they can be bought to match existing windows if youâre not replacing all of them.  They also offer a classic look that goes well in many older homes. Aluminum is used frequently in newer construction along with vinyl due to the relative low cost as well as ease of maintenance.  Vinyl also comes in a range of colors so you can find something thatâll match your existing home. Fiberglass is similar to vinyl except that itâs stronger and more expensive.
One of the most important decisions youâll make when performing window replacement is how many panes of glass youâll use. Â Single panes of glass is fairly outdated in most situations now. Â It lacks the insulative strength to be able to properly function outside of very mild climates or outbuildings. Â Double pane windows have a sealed air space in between the panes of glass. Â This creates improved thermal control. Â In addition, you can further increase insulative ability by using a thin layer of invisible metals on a surface or by using an inert gas like argon for added insulation. Â Triple pane windows may be desirable if you live in a cold climate. Â However, due to the heightened cost, it is generally only worth it if youâre planning on living in your home for many more years.
Overall, there are a few factors youâll need to consider to make the best possible decision for your home.
