The Polarities team had a chance to visit UVLA Store located at Cubao Expo. Quezon City. Our mutual reaction really is like a kid inside a candy store. The excitement is overwhelming as we saw the toys and other vintage stuff that they have. Even though more than half of the items they have in the store are older than us, we’re still oozing with nostalgia as we saw the things that we are especially familiar with. The distinct smell that comes with the vintage collection is quite a delight. It’s like smelling the scent of a freshly bound magazine or a book or a piece of paper. You don’t know why you keep on smelling it once you started. It’s weird but we love it.
UVLA actually stands for Unique Vintage and Lost Art. We found out about it when we were searching for vintage items for inspiration on the internet. A blog about UVLA came out, and ever since then we had a little “obsession” about the store. Their facebook account is not that active during that time so we had no other choice but to visit their store and discover it ourselves. Shortly enough there came 98B’s Saturday Market @Escolta where they feature pre-loved items and vintage goods. We went there to search for interesting 2nd hand products as mere thrift shop junkies as we are, until we find a stall that is somewhat familiar… It is UVLA’s kiosk! We didn’t expect to find them during that time and we are very surprised. Months later, we became sellers as well at the same Escolta bazaar which is held once a month. And being a “suki” of UVLA ever since we met them and until we became co-sellers, Polarities and UVLA became friends.
We arranged an interview with Ms. Eva, one of the owners of UVLA. She invited us to visit their renovated store. And after a short planning, we went there and felt like kids once again. Continue reading to know how UVLA started and know a little about being a collector…
