Yuji Itadori has never wanted to be the centre of attention. Not even when he lands the biggest home run of the decade, or when he crosses another finish line first, smashing records that the campus won’t stop bragging about.
As soon as the clock strikes seven, he’s gone.
No frats, no parties, no messy drama. In the kindest, nicest phrasing possible, he’s a dud. He’ll even disappear mid-conversation, too, sprinting off with some sorry excuse of a “study session.” And if you’ve ever seen his grades, you’d wonder how these “study sessions” even happen at all.
Well, he is a jock—and he is reciting his script for tomorrow’s anthropology presentation... Just with someone else hanging upside down beside him, cocooned in sticky white web on some cityside rooftop.
...Hold up. Rewind one hour.
Gunshots echoed, bullets ricocheting, and in the midst of this circus of a firework show, there Yuji was—dodging clattering cans, cartons, and cereal boxes he was trying to save.
“Okay, think, think—don’t die, don’t die.”
The robber, in his ridiculous ski mask, barreled through the aisles in his frantic craze with his crowbar.
“Out of my way!” he shouted, knocking over another pyramid of canned chickpeas.
Yuji smirked.
Suddenly, a web shot out from his wrist, and the robber yelped as the strand snagged his ankle, tripping him into innocent chips. It’s almost pitiful as his arms flailed helplessly, packs crashing at the spectacle. With a grin, Yuji shot another string of white around the man’s torso.
“Relax! I’m the friendly neighbourhood jock—wait, superhero! Friendly neighbourhood superhero!”
Though the robber still spun in place, tumbling like a washing machine on spin cycle, “You little—”
Yuji fired again, webbing his arms and yanking him upright, “Ohhh, you like being dramatic? We can do dramatic.”
Another around the legs, another around the torso, and suddenly the man found himself dangling midair like a piñata—arms pinned to his sides, legs stiff as broomsticks. A jar of olives bounced off his head for emphasis.
“PUT ME DOWN! WHAT IS THIS—?!”
With a swing from the shelf, Yuji landed with flair, crouching on a layered stack of cereal boxes as he grinned in amusement. “Relax, dude. You’re… uh… artfully suspended. Also, please stop moving, you’re making me dizzy.”
To his dismay, the robber still gyrated, knocking over carts and cans skittering across like tiny rockets. Thankfully, Yuji ducked just in time. With a sigh, he simply shot another web again.
“Hold still! Or I swear, I’ll—wait, nope, I’m not threatening you. I’m… just trying to help! With style!”
So, fast-forward to now, and really, it’s just another Tuesday in 2010s New York.
“The main cultural differences shape America in—”
“Hey! Can you let me down already?!”
Yuji, eyes squinted, snaps his head toward the man, coins jingling from his pockets. But he isn’t frowning at the robber… He just can’t read his notebook properly, especially with the thin fabric over his eyes. Each word is blurred into hazy smudges of grey.
Sometimes, Yuji Itadori doesn’t mind being the centre of attention.
Not when he's wearing the tight red-and-blue jumpsuit Nobara had stitched for him, seams puckered in all her nagging perfection.
Not when Megumi’s tech—definitely not borrowed, not stolen from his lab—glimmers faintly at his wrists.
And not when local news crews are scrambling to post grainy cellphone footage online, captions labelled with ridiculous, corny hashtags like #NYCSpidey, #OvercaffeinatedAcrobat, and #UnmaskThisGuy.
As soon as his last lecture of the day ends, he pulls down the mask, slips into the famous suit, and swings through the empire city that never sleeps.
He’s not Yuji Itadori anymore. He’s Spider-Man.
But tonight, though, he has an even greater problem than petty robberies and saving cats in trees. He has college.
“Dude, can you keep it down? I have an assignment due tomorrow, and I’m stuck here babysitting you—" Police sirens wail in the distance, cutting him off. And underneath his mask, he simply smirks, snapping his notebook shut as red and blue sweep across the graffiti‑scrawled walls. “Aaand that’s my cue.”
With a flick of his wrist, the man is left gaping, flailing uselessly as Yuji leaps from the ledge.
The moon hangs low and full tonight. In the midst of its glow, he arcs over streets, headlights glinting like glass, weaving in between scaffolding poles. Trash swirls in the gusts around him, while faint damp concrete lingers as he glides past flickering streetlamps. The grids of blocks lie dark, the breeze sharp, yet every window glimmers with golden light; they’re constellations scattered across the city that guide him home.
Even if what he does is nowhere near world-changing, he’s always reminded that the city is full of life and narratives. Every window, every golden light that spills through each pane of glass, hides a story—a heartbeat—and that fact alone is enough to lessen the weight of his double life just a bit.
As always, while swinging past, his gaze skims the streets, searching through the blur of headlights and shadows. He finds you like clockwork. Trudging home, arms full of groceries: a paper bag with lettuce, a baguette tucked under your arm, and vegetables brimming atop. You’re humming a song from your dangling earbuds, oblivious to the world around you.
He doesn’t mean to stare, but when you live in the same flat, coming home at the same time he clocks out from patrol… well, it’s only natural he makes sure his crush roommate gets home safe, too, right?
“I wonder what she’s making tonight…” he mutters.
With one soft push, he slips his window open and dives back inside.
The wooden floor doesn’t even creak under his landing, and the globe lamp atop his desk glows like a dim moon over scattered paper. He passes sticky notes plastered across his wall, zipping out his suit and tossing his book onto the bed. Stepping out, he flicks on the hallway lights—and it isn’t long before he hears the usual.
Your keys, the gentle click of the lock, and the first step you take inside, wrapped in the flat’s cosy warmth.
“Welcome back!” Yuji beams, hair tousled.
You nod back with a smile, shutting the door behind as you toe off your shoes. As you set the bag of groceries onto the kitchen island, you give him a smug smirk. “Did you just wake up?”
His eyes dart away, guilty, all while he rubs the back of his neck. A sheepish chuckle escapes. “...Maybe?”
You raise an eyebrow, sighing as he pulls a chair from the island.
Ever since you moved in together with your childhood friend, you’ve learned three things about him: he eats terribly, naps like a cat, and will stare at you from the corner of the room with glassy, desperate eyes if he ever smells food.
And whether he admits it or not, you know when to drag him by the wrist, plop him down in front of a bowl, and pour him something warm. You’ve done it since high school. You’re still doing it now.
Sure, he’s stubborn, but so are you, and tonight is no different.
“I’m just making some simple tomato soup,” you say, spreading the groceries across the counter.
The city skyline glitters faintly from behind him, setting aglow the twinkling fascination in his golden eyes.
“Because you—” you tap his forehead with a finger, nudging him back, “are finishing your presentation script tonight. And I’m helping you with it.”
His eyes widen. “What?! How do you know about that?”
“If I have to hear Megumi complain one more time about you cramming your share of the load,” you groan, washing the vegetables, “I might start seeing both of you in my dreams.”
“Oops…” Yuji whistles, caught red-handed.
In the corner of your eye, you see him drift over as you slice the tomatoes.
“Can I help you cook then? Y’know… as repayment?”
You nearly slice the tip of your finger at the audacity, but his hands, as usual, catch your wrist before anything disastrous happens. “You?”
You turn to look at him, his smile as bright as ever. “The last time you offered, everything tasted bland.”
He pouts under your gaze—lips pursed, brows scrunched. “I’ll never learn if I don’t try...”
A beat passes.
You sigh in resignation, and that’s all he needs. Yuji’s already pumping his fists triumphantly in the air, snatching the spare apron hanging off the oven handle.
“Let’s goooo!” he cheers.
On the other hand, you giggle at his flippant victory cry, but you don’t notice how his gaze lingers on you in the soft golden kitchen light—the curve of your eyes, the bloom of your cheeks. He’s taller than you, so it goes unnoticed, hidden in the shadow between you.
“And this time, don’t forget the salt,” you tease, stepping toward the pot.
“Yeah, yeah—oh! Put on that Cowboy Bebop opening. It’s been stuck in my head all day.”
You frown, eyeing the tiny apron stretched ridiculously over his frame. Your thumb’s already swiping across your battered iPhone 4, searching. When the first chord blasts, Yuji just stares.
“Based on how you’re holding that knife,” you chortle, “this feels more fitting.”
“…You think I’m gonna break into kung-fu fighting?!”
You shrug mockingly, moving to boil the water as he sputters just beside you. And it isn’t long before the kitchen settles into a cosy rhythm—the chop of vegetables, the hiss of butter, the soft swirl of simmering broth—and of course, your constant two-minute interval scoldings.
“Why are the tomatoes diced like… that?”
“I-I swear someone did this on Hell’s Kitchen last night—”
“I told you a little oil. Why is the pan half full?!”
“Uh…”
“I’m monitoring what kind of weird cooking shows you’re watching from now on.”
Soon enough, all that’s left is the soup’s fragrance wafting throughout the room—sun-ripe tomatoes, roasted garlic, and basil blooming bright with butter. It smells like warmth, like home, and the little life you’ve carved out together. Even Yuji stops mid-chop, knife still hovering in the air, just to inhale.
“Here you go,” you say, sliding the bowl toward him. On cue, he drops into his chair—shoulders rolling, a quiet sigh slipping past his lips. He thinks you don’t notice, but his fingers are still faintly red around the knuckles. The moment his eyes land on the bowl, something bright flickers in him.
The soup glows a deep orange-red, thick and velvety, droplets of olive oil shimmering across its sheen like tiny flecks of gold. Steam curls upward, brushing his cheeks, and in the dead of winter, the warmth blooms against him like late summer. Softening the night sky, brightening it like morning light.
When he takes the first spoonful, his eyes go wide.
Silence hangs in the room, but he just sets the spoon down gently, shoulders dropping another inch. He takes another bite, slower, and holds it in on his tongue. Under the table, his foot taps out its usual restless beat to a steady rhythm.
You have no idea what kind of day he’s had to be this hungry.
You don’t see the scuff on the side of his shoe, from where he landed too fast on the rooftop across the street. Or the tiny tear at the hem of his sleeve, where something sharp grazed him. Or the way he’d winced when you turned away earlier, instantly straightening as if nothing had happened.
All you see is Yuji—sunshine, sweetness—devouring the soup as if it’s literally saving him. You quietly rest your chin in your hands, grinning while he inhales spoonful after spoonful, like it’s the single greatest thing he’s tasted all week.
“Is it good?” you coo, and he nods so fast his hair bounces.
With all his enthusiasm, a smear of soup somehow ends up on the corner of his lip. He doesn’t notice, but you do, and you’re giggling before you can stop yourself.
You turn toward the window, watching the city smear into streaks of gold and red, and in that split second, he lifts his gaze, eyes catching on you. His spoon pauses halfway to his mouth, suspended in midair, forgotten for the still of a heartbeat as his own breath stumbles, chest rising too quickly in the quiet. Goosebumps prick along his arms, and this time, it isn’t from the danger his sixth sense is warning him of. It’s from the way the skyline burns in your eyes, as if every light in New York decided to gather just to admire you with him.
He catches the soft amber strokes on your cheeks as your small smile curls like cotton-soft warmth—and underneath the dim neon glow, you look too gentle for the shadows, too bright for the night. For a breathless moment, he wants to steal you away.
To borrow you from the world, and keep this evening tucked somewhere only for the two of you.
“...Let’s go see something.” The words slip out before he can catch them.
You blink up at him, and the room instantly falls away, softened to all but a hush of the world. “What?”
He’s already getting up from his seat, draping his jacket over your shoulders as he takes your bowl. Without a word, he just reaches out for your hand, urging you to take his lead. Following him to the window, you watch as he pushes it open to the rushing cold air.
“What are you—”
“Trust me.”
He steps onto the fire escape’s metal platform. You hesitate for only a heartbeat, then follow, fingertips brushing the cold iron railing. Halfway up, he glances back at you, and his smile spills across the dim rooftop glow. Brighter than Manhattan’s windows, brighter than the neon signs, and even more so than the giddiness in your chest.
Your heart stutters for a bit.
The hum of traffic drifts up from below, weaving through the gaps in the grating, and when you reach the rooftop, the wind tugs at your clothes, ruffling hair and jacket alike. Stretched beneath you is the entire glitter of New York ahead, a glowing chaos of gold veins and shadows.
You suck in a breath, clutching Yuji’s jacket tighter around your shoulders.
“...It’s beautiful,” you whisper.
He doesn’t look at the shimmering skyline, but only at you. The spark in your eyes catching the glint of distant lights. Sitting down, he pats away the dust beside him, pulling you down to follow him. You plop yourself down, knees brushing.
“Right? When things are heavy, I like to sit and just watch the lights from above.”
Giggling, you take the warm bowl from his hands, the heat spreading through your fingers and mingling with the steam curling like tiny ghosts between you. “I didn’t know you were also a rooftop climber.”
He flinches slightly, but you don’t notice, lost as you are in the flickering tapestry of lights and the comforting weight of his jacket draped around your shoulders.
“...Thanks,” you murmur.
He tilts his head to your voice, and his smile blooms like a lantern in the cold fluorescent glow of the city. He notices the dark circles under your eyes, the slump of your shoulders while cooking, and the faint, heavy sighs. Time hangs between you, quiet.
“Is it because of your mother?” He doesn’t mean to pry. He simply waits, patient and quiet.
Years ago, when he was eleven and the weight of the world had abandoned him to debt and despair, it was you who had pulled him into the light.
You, who had brought him home, were pleading with your parents to let him stay, working alongside him through three jobs, shielding him from bullies, and carving out space for him in a world that had none.
And it wasn't because of pity—it was simply because it was right.
That small, steady truth had been more than enough for him to realise, walking home together one evening at fourteen, that life without you was unthinkable. Impossible.
But ever since that incident, Yuji spends his nights differently now, wondering if he even still has the right to be sitting next to you. Perhaps that’s why he’s swinging across buildings now, a distraction to the ache he can’t name. The tugging knot of fear that writhes from his core.
“Mm… same old,” you murmur, eyes drifting to the golden veins of streets below, lids heavy.
“You know I’m always here for you, right?”
You shift your gaze toward him. His brows crease, jaw tight, lips parted, as if he’s waiting for a question you’ve buried too deep to speak. Yet your hands move betrayingly, fingers brushing against his, seeking him out over the coarse, cold brick beneath you.
He threads his fingers through yours with an ease so natural, it terrifies you. A knot coils low in your stomach, tightening with every heartbeat, your hand trembling beneath the gentle heat of his.
The wind tugs at your hair, lights flickering beyond the skyline like tiny stars. Amidst the faint hum of traffic and the electric scent of the city, each glow pulses, just like the racing of your heart.
You can feel it, the quiet certainty in his touch. You know he means it. You really do.
But even so, your lips betray you. They tremble against a single word, from the weight of too many nights spent replaying every thought, every fear.
“...Thanks.” A fragile whisper, soft as paper, heavy as stone.
Somewhere far below, a taxi honks. Somewhere far above, a neon sign blinks. But in between both, it’s just the two of you. And even with all the uncertainty, the nights, and the unspoken truths that linger between breaths, you settle.
This litany of quiet is enough.
It’s eleven o'clock out, the sun is stupidly bright, and you want to die. Like—crawl six feet under and stay burrowed in there—die.
“See you tomorrow!” the woman calls as you leave, a paper bag of tangerines digging into your fingers.
You flash her a beaming smile, hiding your soul-rotting exhaustion. The door’s jingle follows you onto the bustling sidewalk.
New York is already in full chaos mode. Yellow cabs are barking at each other, crowds are shoving downstream like human traffic jams, and tourists are wrestling with crumpled city maps like they’re cursed.
When you glance up, you see the usual pigeons parading shop awnings, lined like entitled landlords. Scaffolding poles crisscross above you, towering between skyscrapers, and your earphones dangle uselessly around your neck.
No song is strong enough to fight the throbbing migraine pulsing behind your eyes, and it’s probably because you were up until 5:00 a.m. helping Yuji.
The memory punches you in the brain.
“Why the hell is it blank?” you’d blurted—because how else were you supposed to react to that monstrosity? You were both on the living room carpet, his laptop glowing tragically atop the coffee table.
Yuji jerked his head toward you, scandalised. “Um, no? There’s the title slide, the body slide, and the bullet points. It’s got everything it needs.”
You didn’t need a degree to see all the ways that was a crime, and maybe you’re just a saint—that’s what he thinks—but you were already storming into your room, grabbing your laptop.
“Okay, you—” you pointed at him, “write your script. I’m fixing your slides.”
His eyes widened, watching as you flipped open your laptop, copied the link, and sent it over.
“We’ll revise the whole thing on four, and—”
Bla bla bla… your words were already blurring into the mindless static of Yuji’s head. In that deserted hollowness of a brain, there was just awe.
The way your focus sharpened, the way your brows pinched, the way you sank into a task like the world around you melted away… it was the same look you’d had four years prior.
When both of you still worked for some cramped, greasy kitchen in Queens—and then, he’d been elbow‑deep in suds, wrist aching, sweat sticking his bangs to his forehead.
Suddenly, you burst through the door.
“What the—” Yuji had jumped, nearly dropping a plate. But you didn’t even flinch at his shock. You were already rolling up your sleeves, sweeping half his stack of dirty dishes into your arms.
“No wonder you’re coming home late every day,” you muttered, scrubbing. “I asked the manager how many extra shifts you took. Care to explain?”
Yuji immediately paused. Your eyes still stayed focused on your side of the sink, though. The plate in his hand, the steam, and the music drifting faintly from the restaurant’s old radio all seemed to stop.
“We need the money,” he said gently, the corner of his mouth tugging up in a hopeful smile. He reached to take the plate from you, “Come on—hand it back. It’s my responsibility.”
Your grip didn’t budge. You just glared at him from under your lashes. “We promised not to keep secrets from each other,” you murmured.
Silence fell. Only the muted hum of jazz seeped in from the dining area, trembling throughout the fragile string in the air.
Then you whispered, almost too quietly for him to hear. “...It's not like I want to stay home either."
His stomach tightened.
You weren’t supposed to say—even, feel that kind of hurt. Hell, he didn't want you to think of uttering those words... At least when he was by your side.
He opened his mouth. Closed it. But after a few moments of still silence, he dug his fingers into his palms. His chest paused mid-rise. “We’re moving out as soon as I get paid.”
Your head snapped toward him. And there it was—that boyish grin. The same one he’d given you at six years old on the playground, when he offered you half his juice box just after you scraped your knee.
“I checked our savings,” he said softly. “We’ll have enough by this month.”
Your lips parted. Your eyes widened. And when the realisation hit you, Yuji quickly stripped off his gloves and ruffled your hair with a warm, shaking laugh. “New York, angel. New life.”
Your throat tightened. Your heart stopped.
And before you knew it, your vision was blurring up like fog. His hair still spun rose-gold, soft and shimmering through the garble—and somehow, even through the haze, he was still the brightest thing in the room.
He had prayed to every God he knew to do anything, to never see you cry again. That if sadness ever had to choose, it would pick him, and not you.
So when your tears finally spilt under the cheap fluorescent lights, he didn’t hesitate. He pulled you in, firm arms wrapping around you as you clung to the back of his hoodie, shoulders shaking.
You choked on your own soft sniffles, finally surrendering to the dam of emotions you’d bottled all these years. All the while, he quietly kept his hold on you, whispering it again, breath warm against your ear.
New York. New life.
Flash forward four years—after the spider bite, after the powers, after the secrets that clawed at his nights—and some things never changed.
“Angel…” he murmured, stunned all over again. Because sure, he saved cats, strangers and entire banks on his better days, but it came at the cost of everything else.
His friends all think he’s unreliable, a dud, and weirdly bad at showing up—college deadlines slipped, plans fell apart, and every time the hairs on his arms stood up, that electric buzz tingling in his bones—he had to go. He just had to.
He knew what happened when he ignored it, and even in the darkest of nights, he still hears the crackle of fire from the apartment next door.
But you stayed.
You always stayed.
He wanted to hug you.
To kiss you.
To press his forehead to yours and promise that he’d protect you from everything—even himself.
But he swallowed it down, locked it away where it couldn’t slip out too easily.
And he just… smiled.
That boyish, earnest smile he never realises has the power to crumble all your walls.
Enough to also keep your whole world from collapsing. Enough to make you brave. Enough to make you trust him even when everything else in your life feels like it’s slipping between your fingers.
For as long as you can remember, it’s always felt like you and him against the world.
You know how he disappears every night, how he’s never on time for anything, how he comes back scraped or breathless or exhausted—but you never ask. You don’t pry. You don’t push.
Because Yuji is the one person you’d bend your whole life around if it meant easing his burdens. You trust him—you trust him in a way that terrifies you. You’ve known him long enough to understand the softness of his heart, the way he tries to carry everything alone, the way he refuses to let people worry for him.
And you know, deep down, that he’d never hurt anyone.
He’d never hurt you.
So you keep your silence with that one line he’s unknowingly drawn between you.
Even when you feel his gaze lingering on you longer than it should.
Even when goosebumps rise along your arms in the soft, living warmth of the room.
Even when you ache to reach out, to cup his face, to ask him why it feels like something is always slipping away.
Neither of you speaks. Neither of you steps forward.
Your fingers twitch at your sides, all while his clench slightly at his thighs.
Even when this fragile string you’re threading so carefully on is the very thing hurting you both.
You’re slipping through the afternoon crowd like a loose page torn from a book, shoving past another tourist whose camera strap is swinging wildly. The air today smells faintly of burnt bagels, exhaust, and wet asphalt from last night’s rain, the earth’s sigh as it drinks the sky’s frigid tears. Metal trash cans clatter in the wind, lids rattling against their rims, and somewhere above, the faint screech of the subway reverberates from the tracks below.
Footsteps echo around you, tyres hiss against the wet asphalt, yet even in this city that never sleeps, your thoughts drift as you shuffle through the bustle.
I wonder how Yuji’s presentation went?
Hopefully well. Otherwise, you’ll have to suffer through the hell of Megumi’s complaints for at least another month. God, anything but that.
You yawn, squinting as your vision blurs slightly against the harsh reflection of the rising sun on glass skyscrapers. The traffic light clicks, the pedestrians’ signal flipping to red, but suddenly, your eyes catch something else entirely.
Something small, trembling, utterly out of place in the chaos. A golden-furred bundle curled in the middle of the crossing.
A puppy.
Your heart stutters.
Everyone sees it, yet no one moves. Cars keep rolling, and the pup curls in on itself, shaking so violently you can feel it even from the curb.
What the hell?
Your mind scatters in ten directions at once, tripping over every worst-case scenario. Logic screams, “don’t run into traffic”, so you're forced to stand there—foot tapping, throat tight, breath trapped—waiting. As soon as the pedestrian light turns green, your legs run before you can even think.
You sprint.
Your sneakers slap against the asphalt, the city blurring around you in a rush of horns and exhaust. With a quick drop of a crouch, breath heaving, you slowly stick out a hand for it to sniff, but it shrinks back, paws skittering against the cold pavement.
It’s terrified. Of everything. The honks, the stomps, the chatter—New York’s roar is swallowing the tiny thing whole.
The pedestrian countdown crackles overhead, each tick like a punch to your ribs, and your heartbeat syncs with it—frantic, stuttering, racing.
“It’s okay, it’s okay…” you whisper.
But it’s not. Not even close.
You glance up.
Ten seconds left.
Fuck it.
You drop the paper bag. Tangerines scatter across the crosswalk, bumping under shoes, rolling into gutters as you sweep the trembling puppy into your arms. Its ribs flutter against your palms frantically. You whisper whatever calming nonsense you can manage—
HOOOONK.
The blare is so loud it splits your thoughts in half.
Before you even fully straighten, the world explodes into white behind your eyes. You snap your head toward the sound.
A truck is barreling toward you.
Too close.
Too fast.
Your entire body locks. There’s no time to run, no time to scream. The world narrows to the shadow swallowing you—
An arm suddenly clamps around your waist.
The ground vanishes, wind knifes past your ears. In the blink of an eye, you’re off the asphalt and slammed into the blur of motion.
The city snaps back into focus just as your feet touch down on solid pavement, and right behind you, “Whoa there—careful!”
You freeze, heart slamming into your ribs. You know that voice. You’d know it in a thunderstorm, a blackout, a dream.
“Yu—” But when you whirl around, ready to scream at him, you freeze. The person holding you isn’t Yuji.
It’s Spider-Man.
The spandex, the mask, and the red and blue in all its stupid glory—standing right in front of you, fingers still trembling slightly where they had been gripping your waist. He slowly lets go of it, watching as you spin to face him, face shaken.
As more and more people start to crowd the two of you, they’re lifting phones, shouting.
It’s his voice. You know it.
But there’s also absolutely no way that Yuji Itadori—your perpetually late, starving, ghost of a roommate—is the same Spider-Man plastered all over the Daily Bugle every day, busy saving lives.
You swallow hard. “…Thank you.”
He glances down, raising his knuckle for the shaking pup—and after a few sniffs, he boops its nose, its tail giving a tiny, shy wag.
“What a cutie,” he says softly. “Is this yours?”
He knows the answer. He shouldn’t even be talking this much. But when you look up at him—stunned, scared, and shocked—he stays.
You pause for a moment, brain short-circuiting before shaking your head. He gestures gently. “I can take him to a local shelter, if you want.”
What?
Your arms instinctively tighten around the pup, but after a few beats, the tension in your shoulders eases. With a hesitant nod, you slowly pass it over—and to your surprise, he holds the little thing way too gently, cradling it close to his chest.
Then, he asks, “Do you want to come with us?”
Your head instantly perks up to him.
He wants you… to come with him.
You feel your own heart thudding against your ribs, the cluster of crowds sending your brain into cartwheels now. Your fists are still against his chest, clenched. Finally, after a few seconds, you nod once.
“...Please?” you add, voice barely above a whisper.
Something in him melts.
“Alright,” he murmurs, hooking an arm around your waist with the pup. “No tall skyscrapers this time, though. Gotta make sure I don’t scare the pup.”
Before you can even process what he’s saying, a white web shoots out from his wrist—
And you’re fucking airborne.
“AAAAAAAAA—!!” You’re screaming as the wind whips across your face, the ground blurring beneath your feet.
One awning leads to another, gilding just above the traffic—and somehow, that makes it even more terrifying; you can see the cars, the flashing lights, the stunned pedestrians filming you as you pass.
You cling to him like your life depends on it, (because really, it does) your yell trembling amidst the racing wind as your arms stay wrapped tight around his neck. Meanwhile, this idiot is laughing. Laughing. And even the puppy is having fun, tail wagging like a metronome of betrayal.
You swear you can even see his tail wagging as well, burrowing your face even deeper into his neck as you shut your eyes.
“WHAT THE HELL?!” you shout, voice cracking. The idiot of a vigilante only laughs harder, grip still strong on your waist.
He doesn’t know how his heart nearly stopped when he saw you kneeling in front of the barreling truck. He doesn’t know how close he came to losing his mind. And he doesn’t know how many Gods he’d prayed for the shortest split second.
“Put me down, put me down, put me down!” You’re sobbing into his neck, eyes glued shut as the wind smacks the hair into your face.
Finally, the world slows to a stop. He lands softly on the asphalt, and everything stills—all but your trembling breaths. Shallow, shaky, and way too embarrassingly loud in your own ears.
He leans in, voice low enough that only you can hear it through the muffled city noise.
“We’re here,” he whispers.
You refuse to move. Absolutely not.
Your face stays buried in the crook of his neck, arms locked tight, fingers curled stubbornly. He chuckles softly.
Cute.
The pup wiggles out from between you two, popping its head out. It yaps once, twice, and you slowly crack open one eye, hands weakly releasing their grip on his suit. A shaky breath leaves your lips as you finally peel yourself off him, stumbling back—only for him to catch you again by the elbow.
“And we haven’t even reached forty feet yet,” he teases, head tilted.
You glare weakly, voice hoarse. “I am never doing that again.”
He doesn’t even need to say anything; you can feel the smug grin through the mask.
With a soft spin on his heel, he steps past you toward a storefront wedged between two towering brick buildings. The sign above it is faded, chipped around the edges, and the door’s chime jingles as he slips inside with the puppy nestled in one arm.
You stand there in the midst of the pavement, though, heart still thundering, sneakers planted on solid ground, and even if you’ve touched the ground for at least a few minutes now, it feels like you’re still up there mid-swing.
The city moves like normal around you. Horns, footsteps, conversations—it all feels muted, stuffed cotton in your ears. You’re floating.
Absolutely floating.
A few moments later, the chime rings again. He steps out… with the same puppy still in his arms. You blink as he gives a tiny shrug.
“Sooo… turns out they’re totally out of vacant spots right now," he glances at the pup, the critter innocently tilting its head. “I can swing to another one, maybe—”
“I’ll take him.” The words leave your mouth before you even think them through, cutting through the fragile string of silence.
He looks at you, stunned. You’re taking it in?
Before he can say anything, you crouch immediately, scratching the puppy under the chin as it whines into your palm, tail flailing like a fuzzy little helicopter.
Sure, why not? Maybe Yuji will finally start showing up more often. Maybe he’ll actually help take care of it. Maybe—
“Uh—you sure?”
All the while, Yuji, as mentioned above, is panicking to death in his head. He’s not even there for half the night, how the hell is he gonna take care of it? But there’s you, of course, so it can’t be that bad, right?
“Mhm,” you nod, scooping the warm ball of golden fluff against your chest. “Look, it loves me already!”
You giggle as it barks happily, tiny paws scrambling at your collar as it leans up to lick your jaw. Warm little breaths puff against your skin, sunlight breaking through the thinning clouds overhead, catching on its fur and turning it into a tiny halo of honey-gold—soft enough to melt winter, blithe enough to quiet the city.
He goes still.
Of course, it loves you.
The breeze rolls by, threading through the loose strands of your hair, and he watches the sunlight kiss them the same way it kisses the dog’s fur, as if the two of you were made of the same warmth.
He doesn’t say anything. Doesn’t need to. The tilt of his head, the stillness of his hands, the way he forgets about the crowd, the noise, the city—all of it betrays him.
You’re shining underneath the bleeding sun, laughing even with the trembling puppy in your arms, and for one still second, the weight of what almost happened hits him harder than any fall he’s taken tonight.
Harder than any punch, any rooftop landing, any sprint through the freezing wind.
And he knows it. He knows exactly what that ache is.
“Where do you live?” he asks, voice lower than before, too casual even to be casual.
Your gaze snaps to him. And the second you see the curve of his masked grin—smug, obvious, and entirely too proud of himself—your stomach sinks.
“So…” he drawls, head tilting. “Round two?”
You groan, clutching the dog a little tighter like it might suddenly save you. “God, save me.”
“Roger that, Ma’am.”
You smack his arm. He laughs.
And the sun, traitorous as ever, lights you up like something worth falling for.
The metal railing trembles as he steps onto your balcony, but unlike it, you don’t steady—not even after your sneakers touch the concrete. Your knees are still jelly, your stomach is still somewhere midair, and you’re pretty sure you’ll never get used to this.
Frankly, you’re praying you won’t ever have to.
Behind you, the sun melts into winter’s edge, streaking the clouds with bleeding crimson.
“Welcome home!”
“Thank you,” you breathe.
The golden pup squirms in your arms, and the moment you crack open the balcony door, it launches inside. You can’t help but laugh as it bounds across the living room, sniffing corners, trotting in frantic circles, all while its tail wags with a delirious joy only pure innocence can have.
You’re tired—he can see it. The slope of your shoulders, the soft drag of your steps, the yawns you pretend are subtle. Even your laughter sounds like it’s holding up the walls of a crumbling day.
He leans against the railing behind you, watching with a chuckle, and he knows he shouldn’t linger, shouldn’t risk even this much, but it’s you. And tonight, for reasons he can’t name out loud, he wants to show you something special.
“Hey,” he calls softly, “ever wondered what it’s like sixty feet up?”
You turn. He stands there with his arms crossed, head tilted, grin smug enough to see even beneath the mask.
“You’re kidding.”
He shrugs. “You look like you need a pick‑me‑up. And I think I know just the thing.”
Before you can argue, his hands are slipped around your waist already, like he’s done this a million times before. And somehow, like your body recognises him from somewhere you can’t name, you don’t pull away. You only lift a brow, smirking. “Literally?”
He huffs a boyish laugh and reaches past you to slide the balcony door shut. His gaze flickers to the puppy already curled on a cushion, drifting into a soft nap after its chaotic afternoon.
“The vet said he’s trained and vaccinated. So…” His voice dips, playful. “It wouldn’t hurt if I steal you for a few minutes, right?”
You pretend to think about it. “Maybe.”
Maybe.
Damn, if he didn’t have his stupid mask on, you’d see the way his whole face breaks into the most hopeless grin ever. God really does send his hardest missions to his strongest soldiers.
“Hang on tight.”
He doesn’t need to tell you twice. Your arms loop around his neck, and just as quickly as you can breathe, you’re suddenly up in the air—you still can’t help but scream at the sudden jump in height.
A strangled cry rips out of your throat as the city drops away beneath your feet. He’s still laughing at the ridiculousness of your reaction, and for once in both your lives, you’re screaming with the sort of freedom that only comes with the wish of a shooting star.
You definitely feel like one, too.
Skyscrapers streak past, wind clawing at your clothes. Your face is buried in his shoulder—because looking down might as well kill you—but even through your terror, a traitorous warmth swells in your chest.
He hears every sound you make, every breathless scream, and he’s stupidly amused. Even when your eyes are screwed shut from how fucking terrifying this is.
Finally, he lands on what sounds like concrete with a soft thud, steadying you before your knees can give out. Your fingers are still clutched to his suit, but he pries them off gently, turning you around.
You crack open one eye.
Then both.
And instantly, your breath catches.
The horizon is on fire.
The wild, bright yellow flame burns in the centre of the molten gold, every skyscraper splinting it in fractured sheets of amber and rose. And as it dips right across the water, your heart skips a beat, the sky bleeding with streaks of orange and bruised violet. Light scatters from the heavens, a gorgeous shower that shimmers just across the horizon’s sea—a ramp of falling stars just for the two of you.
“…It’s beautiful,” you whisper.
The same words you told him the first time he brought you to the rooftop. He remembers. God, he remembers everything. He turns his head.
The horizon is burning in the distance, but he doesn’t glance up. His gaze lingers on you, tracing the way the light brushes your hair, the tilt of your jaw, the slow inhale of your awe—and in that moment, the city, the sunset, the wind, nothing else exists.
You outshine every single drop of light in the bleeding sky, and he hates that he can’t even tell you.
Something in your chest loosens, then gives. For one strange, impossible moment, the pressure of everything—your deadlines, your rent, your exhaustion, the heaviness of simply existing—feels lighter.
You turn to him, smiling. “Thank you.”
The sun flares behind you, painting you in gold, and he thinks helplessly that even this sunset pales beside you.
His heart punches against his ribs, hammering hard enough to bruise.
He keeps his hands in fists so you won’t see them shake, nails digging into his palms, trying to anchor himself.
Because if he doesn’t, he’ll do something reckless.
…Like pull his mask up and kiss you under a dying sun.
He jabs a gloved knuckle against the glass of Nobara’s bedroom window—once, twice, thrice—fast. Even muffled behind the mask, Nobara can recognise it anywhere. Especially when it’s coming from her window on the tenth fucking floor.
“Knock, knock! House of fabulous engineers and fashion icons! Hellooooo?”
A muffled groan leaks from the glass.
The window slides open with a wet creak, and Nobara leans out—hair damp from a shower, hoodie half-zipped, face frowning. She’s literally one inconvenience away from shutting it on his fingers.
“What,” she deadpans, “the hell do you want?”
Yuji straightens proudly, chest puffing out. “Guess who just saved someone from a truck, carried them to a view that’d make Van Gogh rise from the grave, and completely turned their day around! And they don’t even know it was me!”
His words are tumbling over like runaway marbles, tripping out of his mouth in the sudden rush of excitement. Each breath fogs the inside of his mask, tiny clouds drifting up as he gestures wildly, eyes sparkling even behind the webbed veil.
From behind her, Megumi’s voice drifts, monotonous as ever. “You look like a five-year-old who drank too much espresso.”
Yuji spins halfway, giving him a thumbs-up. “And you built the tech that made that possible! So technically, I am a caffeinated genius who saves people, sooooo—you’re the genius behind the genius!”
“Obviously it’s about her,” Nobara says, arms crossed, one brow arched. “Why else knock on my window like some homicidal pigeon?”
Yuji grins boyishly beneath the mask, tilting his head. “Because someone had to tell the people who made me this awesome that I did something awesome!”
He hops back onto the slick rooftop, landing with barely a splash. Rain glazes over the red and blue of his suit, gloves leaving faint smudges of rain, but he doesn’t care. He crouches—knees loose, fingers tapping, eyes flicking between Nobara and Megumi—and he rambles.
“You’d be so proud. I got her out of danger—like, barely-saw-my-life-flash-before-my-eyes danger—and she held onto me and we just… we ended up on this roof where the whole skyline looked like it was melting gold. And she laughed! And I—”
His hand stills over his heart.
Nobara squints at him, expression softening for half a second before she ruins it deliberately. “You’re ridiculous. Just confess already.”
Yuji crouches lower, fists on his knees, eyes practically sparkling. The rain slides off his mask in thin streams, glossing over like small scattered stars. All the while, the skyline stretches behind him, windows blinking like constellations.
He’s glowing too, like he can’t hold all his giddiness inside.
Behind her, Megumi doesn’t move, but there’s a faint, reluctant curve tugging at the corner of his mouth. They’ve both seen this a million times.
Yuji, hopelessly in love. Yuji, trying not to be obvious. Yuji, failing.
But then, he thinks of you, back in your apartment, probably waiting for him with that puppy curled on your lap—probably wondering why he’s coming back late again.
His heart kicks.
Without warning, he shoots a web to the edge of the rooftop. “Okay—gotta go—BYE!”
Before Nobara can yell, he launches himself into the storm-soaked night, flipping once, twice, and vanishing into the wind.
“YOU’LL HEAR ABOUT THIS TOMORROW, I SWEAR!” he hollers back, voice bouncing between the buildings.
Nobara sighs dramatically and shuts the window, all the while Megumi’s smirk survives exactly three seconds before he wipes it off.
As he disappears into the glittering darkness, the city continues to shine. But it’s obvious who he’s rushing home for, and somewhere below, the night hums with the secret only three people know:
Spider-Man Yuji Itadori is swinging through New York like a boy in love.
When Yuji comes back, he’s yelping in surprise when the little rascal of a pup rushes over to him. Its paws are already scattered across the wooden floor for a launched attack. “What the—?!”
He picks up the pup in his arms, snuggling into it as you appear from the corner of the hallway, snickering at the scene. “Kiniro likes you already.”
It takes everything in him to bite back his laughter and act surprised. After all, he can’t quite literally tell you he was the one saving you both just earlier today, right?
“I didn’t know you brought back this little pup,” he giggles, letting it lick his face. “You even named him?”
You sigh, plopping yourself onto the carpet. “He was in the middle of a pedestrian street. Thankfully, Spider-Man saved him.”
You pat your lap, Kiniro eagerly running straight back to you, “The animal shelter was full, though, but I think we’re stable enough to afford just another pet, don’t you think?”
Yuji’s already walking over to you, slinging his bag across the couch as he ruffles your hair. “I can just pick up another job if you really want to.”
He doesn’t miss that you don’t include yourself in being saved, but he doesn’t nag. All that matters is you’re safe and sound, and with the arrival of little Kiniro, your grin seems just a tiny bit wider.
“Ugh, you’re not even home half the time,” you groan, tugging him down to sit next to you. “Don’t.”
He smirks at your comment, simply shrugging. “You would not believe my day, though,” he starts, running a hand through his hair.
“Coach made us do sprints at 8 a.m. Eight. A. M. The sun was barely awake. I was barely awake,” he plops himself down beside you. “Then I had to do that boring presentation for Anthropology.”
You snort. “What about it? Did you actually, I don’t know—not screw it up?”
“Ohhh, the presentation? Killed it. Destroyed it. Megumi totally knew you helped, too.”
You shake your head, smiling as he continues. With a soft sigh, you raise both hands behind you as you stretch out your sore arms. “Thank God. We still need to go grocery shopping, though… We don’t have food for either him or us.”
“Do you want me to go?”
You’re already getting up, though. “Nah, let’s go together, like usual.”
He smiles. Yeah. Like usual.
So flash forward now, one hour later—
He’s tossing all sorts of odd combinations into your trolley, and when he’s the one pushing it, that means you’re going to be barely stopping him from picking yet another pack of chips in the aisle beside.
Because, seriously, what kind of trolley has fruits, meat, chips and dog food all at once? Any other college student, he says. Well, you don’t complain further, because you’re already busy thinking about what to cook for dinner.
Metal shelves press together like metro train commuters, all the while humming coolers whisper across aisles—stacked with the classic 99¢ ramen, chips, and plastic-wrapped bagels. The overhead fluorescent lights buzz faintly amidst the static hiss of the radio’s pop song, always a little too bright, and it cuts through the shuffle of tired locals grabbing dinner after work.
Both of you pass each aisle, and when he reaches up just one more time, he says, for the latest bag of chips, you slap his hands away. He gives you a pout, but you shoot it back down, eyes still peeled ahead, while the trolley miserably follows behind now.
“So what’s on the menu, Chef?” Yuji asks, arms on the handle.
“Japanese curry,” you hum back, already tossing the small sticks of chives into the trolley behind.
His eyes glisten at the thought of it, his mouth watering already. “You always make the best dinners.”
With a mere huff and the slightest curl of your lips, you refuse to turn back to face him. You can already feel the piercing stare of awe on your back, but it does little to keep the budding brim of pride at bay.
Because honestly speaking, that’s all you need.
When the tiny 2010s New York apartment smells like onions sizzling in butter—warm, sweet, it seeps both into the walls and your mind that you’re actually home.
The window above the stove rattles a little every time a subway roars somewhere underground, but inside, it’s just the two of you, moving around the cramped kitchen like you both have a hundred times.
“You’re cutting them too big,” you tease, nudging his elbow as he chops another carrot chunk.
“They’ll shrink in the pot!” he fires back, puffing his cheeks. “Plus, big pieces are funner to chew.”
“That’s not how carrots work.”
“Sure it is.”
You break into laughter, and he falters into the same grin behind his ever-so-bravado.
Before you can turn back to the stove, his hands slip around your waist from behind, pulling you just close enough that your back warms against his chest. It’s second nature to him by now—but somehow, this time, his touch reminds you of someone else just earlier this afternoon.
“Hey—hey,” you giggle, trying to stir the pot while he sways you side to side, “I’m gonna spill the roux.”
“That’s the plan,” he murmurs, chin gently resting on your shoulder as he watches the stew bubble.
“Teamwork, right? I’m moral support.”
“Moral support doesn’t usually involve hugging me every five seconds.”
He gives a soft, guilty hum. “Hmm. Guess I’m extra supportive.”
Outside the window, the streetlights of early-night Manhattan cast a warm orange glow across the counter, mixing with the flicker of your old fluorescent kitchen light, and somewhere below, a taxi honks, someone yells. Your radio’s playing the classic pop songs on repeat rotation this week, and inside, tucked within the mellow warmth, there’s just the soft simmer of curry and the occasional clatter of utensils. Yuji leans forward to peek into the pot, arms tightening around you as if he can’t help it.
“That smells so good,” he says, voice a little softer now.
You feel your cheeks warm more than the stove ever could, but you still shove him with your hip anyway. “Then set the table, you sap.”
He laughs boyishly before finally letting go. Grabbing bowls, he’s humming off-key to the radio, and when you glance back at him, his sleeves are already rolled up. He plates the curry bubbling behind you, and the two of you settle snuggishly into the couch, blanket tossed over both of your legs.
As usual, Yuji sits close, stretching his arm along the backrest so that he can tug you closer whenever he feels like it. He’s already rambling off into the darkness, and long before you know it, you’re both talking over the show more than actually watching it.
“But, uh… lunch was good,” he adds quietly. “Ate outside. The weather felt nice. I kinda wished you were there, though.” He doesn’t look at you when he says it; Yuji seldom does things like this. He just rubs the back of his neck, cheeks burning pink.
“Y’know… campus stuff is better when you’re around,” he murmurs. “Feels less like I’m just running around all day and more like…” He pauses, searching for the word. “…I’m just living day-to-day.”
You snort. “You’re such a dork.”
“A dork who had a rough day,” he huffs, nudging your knee with his.
You card your fingers through his soft pink hair despite yourself, and he melts instantly, like he’s been waiting all day for this. At some point, the warmth of the curry settles into your stomach, the weight of his arm drapes heavier against your shoulders, and your eyelids grow heavier with each second.
His heartbeat is steady, right under your ear, and beneath the warmth, you don’t even notice when your bowls slide onto the coffee table. You just fall asleep tucked into his side, wrapped in his hoodie and the low hum of the city outside the window.
He simply watches, and somewhere, underneath the warmth of the quiet, his hand stops just a beat from tucking a strand of hair behind your ear.
You don’t know how long you’ve slept, but when the sudden, distant siren of an ambulance cuts through the silence, you wake. The apartment’s dark except for the TV’s dim blue, and your head’s still snuggled against the couch cushion, but Yuji isn’t there.
His spot is still warm, yet the empty bowls are already in the sink.
“Yuji?” you whisper, sitting up as the floor creaks softly beneath your bare feet. Silence echoes, and only the faint late-night wail follows through the room, the ticking of your clock.
It's dead midnight.
Outside your window, a breeze seeps softly from the fire escape. The curtains shift, and you turn to read the single sticky note pasted on the coffee table, scribbled in his ever-so messy handwriting:
“Sorry. Something came up. Didn’t wanna wake you.
Be back soon :)”
You run your thumb over the smiley face, feeling the echo of warmth where he’d been.
You don’t know why he disappears every night.
But for now, all you know is the apartment still smells like curry and him—and the couch feels just a little too big without his arms around your waist.
Dawn breaks as gold washes over the pavement, daylight spilling into the still-waking streets. You’re shuffling along beside Yuji, shoulders brushing now and then. In both your hands are cups of cocoa from the corner cart, each crowned with a swirl of whipped cream he swears is just “the best in the city.”
Steam lifts from the paper cup, curling into the damp morning air, all the while streets still glisten from last night’s rain, passing headlights shimmering in fractured streaks. Inhaling, the air smells of salt and roasted peanuts, tinged with the sweet bite of chestnuts toasting somewhere behind you.
“You’re going to burn your tongue if you sip that too fast,” you tease, nudging him lightly with your elbow.
He sticks his tongue out at you, laughing even harder when you snort back at him. You simply shake your head as he bumps your shoulder, grinning.
The crowd hums around you, a river of people rushing with purpose, but you walk slower than usual, matching his pace. His hair catches the sunlight in golden highlights, and as he turns to glance over at you, the corners of his mouth tilt when he notices you staring.
“And you’re gonna spill your drink if you keep staring,” he laughs, holding out his hand.
You giggle, letting him grab your wrist gently, tugging you just slightly forward as you step over a puddle. His warmth lingers a second too long, and as the sun rises a little higher, he watches you sip from your cup—eyes soft and warm.
Kiniro’s barking as well, his leash wrapped just around Yuji’s knuckles. The boy gives it a little tug, but for a split second, his shoulders tense. He’s distracted for a moment, silent.
There’s a siren somewhere uptown. A horn blast. Something sharp flickers across his expression before he smooths it away.
You pretend not to notice. Instead, you just nudge your shoulder into his again. “You okay?”
He grins. “Yeah. Yeah, I’m good.”
But his fingers tighten just slightly around your wrist.
You tilt your cocoa toward him. “Trade?”
He huffs a relieved laugh. “Fine, but only because I know mine has more whipped cream.”
You swap cups, and his shoulders loosen, the tension in his jaw melting away. Somehow, the warmth of the moment softens the city around you—right up until your phone buzzes. You glance down, frowning.
“Did you eat yet?”
“Are you really out with him again?”
Your chest tightens. No matter how far you’ve moved, her messages still slice like winter wind. Instead, you shove the phone deeper into your pocket, just as Yuji starts rambling about some comic he swears he didn’t dream up.
“Everything okay?” It’s his turn this time, unaware of the text buzzing under your coat.
You nod in response, though, forcing a smile. “Yeah… just distracted.”
He doesn’t probe, and you just follow him down a narrow side street, fire escapes shadowing over cracked sidewalks. The city hums with distant trains, honking taxis, and the usual rumble of early traffic. He twirls you once in the crosswalk, and for a brief moment, your worries fade. Laughter bubbles up easily, sunlight spilling through breaks in the buildings.
Everything is gold.
You don’t even pass five blocks before you hear the sudden strum of a guitar, faint from a musician tucked just beside a subway entrance, tin cup right at his feet.
Yuji’s eyes sparkle instantly like a kid spotting magic.
“Dance battle?” he asks, grin stretching mischievously.
You nearly choke on your cocoa. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me.” He’s already bending his knees, taking a fighting stance. “You. Me. Right here. Winner gets bragging rights for life.”
You groan, trying to pull him away, but the way he bounces on the balls of his feet, the laughter in his voice, makes it impossible to resist.
And before you know it, both your cups are set on the window ledge just beside, and he’s twirling you gently in the middle of the sidewalk, weaving through the small cluster of pedestrians staring in a mix of confusion and amusement.
“Yuji! Stop, I’ll—” you squeal, laughing so hard your stomach hurts.
He only snorts harder, spinning you until your hair whips across your face and you bury your head against his shoulder. “You’ve got moves,” he teases, voice softening. “Better than I thought.”
When the music shifts to a slower melody, he doesn’t let go. His grip on your waist pulls you closer, his forehead resting lightly against yours, eyes half-closed. The rest of the city fades, and in the midst of it, there’s only the pulse of your laughter, the warmth, and the soft brush of his breath against your cheek.
For a second, it feels like the world stopped just to let him hold you. Everything melts away, and time stills.
Then… he freezes. The sparkle in his eyes dims.
“I—I gotta—” he starts, pulling back slightly, fingers brushing yours.
You frown, confused. This isn’t the first time he’s bailing midway, and suddenly, the warmth’s twisting with the usual tension.
“What?” Your voice cracks. “Where are you going?”
He bites his lip, hesitating. “Something came up… I’ll be back as soon as I can. Promise.”
Before you can argue, he’s already turning, weaving through the crowd and quickly disappearing like he’s done so a hundred times. You watch, heart sinking, as the tide of bodies swallows him.
Your phone buzzes then—again—in your pocket.
Your stomach knots, all the while the sweetness of the morning is turning brittle at the edges.
You frown at the screen, fingers trembling slightly… another message.
This time, you take a deep breath, lukewarm cocoa in your hand, and look back down the street where Yuji vanished.
For a heartbeat, the world was quiet.
Almost enough to drown out the buzzing phone. The crawling ache.
Almost.
The campus is loud as usual, and your bag is slung lazily over your shoulder. It’s field day, and Nobara’s perched by your side like a hawk.
Field day always turns the campus into a festive frenzy—music blasting, banners everywhere, and the smell of grass and sunscreen wafting with the crispy fry of food from student stalls. The sun’s golden light is just enough to dust everything with a warm edge, shedding the tiniest bit of warmth amidst the early winter, but your chest still feels tight, and every cheer from the bleachers is merely another headache pulsing beneath the last.
Your fingers curl around your bag strap.
“You better scream your lungs out for him,” she says, flipping her hair as the two of you shuffle through clusters of crazed students. “He made me promise I’d drag you here even if you tried to run.”
You roll your eyes with a huff of disbelief, but still, your chest warms at the mention of him. In the midst of it, Nobara pauses.
“Hey, you okay, though?” she asks, nudging your side. “You’re quieter than usual.”
“I’m fine,” you say, forcing the words past the tightness in your throat.
The football field is already swarmed by the time you reach it. Voices rise and fall like crashing waves, bleachers trembling under stampeding students trying to get good seats. You spot Megumi standing near the edge in all his emo glory, stretching like he’s prepping for a battlefield instead of just another friendly match.
He sighs when he spots you and Nobara, but you don’t miss how the corner of his mouth twitches just a bit upward.
“Told you she’d come,” Nobara smirks.
He mutters something along the lines of “Yeah, yeah, whatever,” but his eyes flick briefly toward the locker tunnel—where Yuji should be…
And right on cue, the man himself bursts out.
Yuji comes sprinting with his helmet in hand, hair ruffled, grin stretched wide enough to split galaxies. His jersey clings to his shoulders, the number glowing against the sunlight. He’s sprinting across the grass like his body was built for this—shining, bright, unstoppable. His hair catches the morning light like rose-gold flames, the soft pink of it glowing warm against his skin.
But he’s late again, and not just a little—ten minutes behind schedule. Yet no one seems to mind except you.
Your chest twists. The familiar pang rises again.
The moment he notices you, he practically trips over his own feet from how fast his attention snaps your way.
“There you are!” he calls, waving the helmet wildly above his head.
Nobara snorts. “Lord, he’s so lovesick it physically hurts.”
You pretend not to hear her.
Yuji jogs up to the fence separating players from spectators, leaning against it with both forearms as if he can’t stop himself from getting closer. His breath comes out quickly from the run, but his grin is wide and bright.
“You made it,” he says too eagerly.
“We always make it,” you scoff, nudging your bag up your shoulder. “Don’t disappoint us.”
“Yes—yes, Ma’am,” he salutes, cheeks pink. “I’m gonna win extra hard now.”
Behind him, the team captain shouts his name. Megumi barks at him, “If you miss the huddle again, I’m making you run laps.”
Yuji jumps, jolting upright. “Coming!”
But before he turns, he reaches out—fingers brushing yours through the fence. Just a fleeting drag of warmth, but enough to leave your pulse scrambling.
“I’ll look for you after every play,” he says sheepishly. “So… don’t leave, okay?”
Nobara rolls her eyes so dramatically that she might strain something. “He’s going to combust.”
You’re definitely not telling her you just might too.
But even then, Yuji still runs back to his team, helmet tucked under his arm, shouting something stupidly upbeat that gets the whole bench laughing. The field hums with energy, sunlight bouncing off jerseys, the grass almost glittering.
Finally, the game commences.
And Yuji—it’s like he was born for this.
He’s fast. Focused. And ridiculously competent.
Every time he steals the ball, the crowd roars. Every time he dodges someone twice his size, Nobara shrieks. And when he scores—an impossible curve just inside the goalpost—he swings both arms up, searching the stands until he locks eyes with you.
He beams like you just handed him the universe.
And the whole world feels golden—sunlight, victory, thrill. Megumi is yelling instructions, Nobara’s screaming insults at the opponents, and Yuji’s just there in all of his radiant glory—shining without even trying.
It’s warm. It’s bright. It’s alive.
You’re cheering too, but your smile still falters, tight around the edges. Your fingers tighten around the edge of your bag strap.
But for now… Yuji wins.
And he looks at you like you’re the reason he did. Truly, he does. He barely hears the final whistle over the roar of the crowd. One second, he’s sprinting across the field, cleats kicking up dust, teammates shouting his name—
And the next, he’s tearing off his helmet and running straight for you.
You barely get a sound out before he crashes into you, arms around your waist, lifting you clean off the ground in a dizzying spin. His laugh bursts warm against your neck, almost boyish in how free it is.
“You saw that, right? You saw that, right?” he breathes, grin blinding, forehead pressed to yours as if he needs proof—needs you—to make it real.
Nobara’s whooping behind you. Megumi’s pretending not to stare, and he’s shoving his hands in his pockets like he didn’t just sabotage two passes solely so Yuji could score. The field is a riot of noise—whistles, cheers, the brass band warming up again—but all of it blurs around him.
Yuji’s still holding you there, thumbs brushing your ribs. The pink of his hair, the warm brown of his eyes, the soft grin that always pulls at the corner of his mouth. His hair brushes your forehead when he leans in.
A voice cuts through the crowd. “Congratulations, you all! What a play!”
It’s a senior guy from another team—someone charming, loud, the type Yuji knows people tend to gravitate to. He jogs past, tossing you a quick smile like it’s nothing.
“You were cheering SO loud,” he tells you, laughing. “Honestly, I think you were louder than the team.”
Yuji’s smile twitches.
The guy just continues, leaning in a bit too close, “You coming to the afterparty? Nobara said you might—”
Yuji steps in without thinking, placing a hand on your back.
“Oh,” the guy says, blinking. “Hey, Itadori. Great game, man.”
“Thanks,” Yuji answers—but something in his eyes dims.
Nobara simply smirks with a cross of her arms.
His eyes flick back to you. Quick. Searching.
Did you smile back? Did you think the guy was cool? Did you—
Suddenly, the team crowds around him—slapping his back, grabbing his shoulders, shouting over each other, and you’re both separated from the wave of intrusion.
“You’re coming with us tonight, right?”
“Yo, we’re buying you dinner!”
“We’re gonna replay that touchdown like a hundred times—”
Yuji’s flustered, overwhelmed. His chest is heaving, and sweat trickles down his forehead. He doesn’t like the sudden attention, and he keeps looking back at you over their heads—checking, making sure you haven’t drifted away in the crowd, but he loses you just as quickly as they came.
Megumi sighs, nudging him. “Go,” he mutters. “We’ll catch up.”
And that’s all he needs.
He practically breaks out of the huddle just to run over to you—soft murmurs of apologies as he bumps into someone else’s shoulder.
Everything else is noise to him, and it isn’t long until he catches the familiar sight of the back of your head again.
He settles beside you, still breathless. His fingers hover, then hook lightly around your wrist, tugging you closer.
“You’re walking with me, right?” His voice drops. “Please?”
Nobara wiggles her eyebrows. “You two are disgusting,” she groans, then pats your shoulder. “I’m getting drinks. Don’t do anything gross while I’m gone.”
She disappears. Megumi drifts off too, yelling something at a teammate.
And suddenly, it’s just you and him again.
The air is warm from the sun, the grass glittering with confetti. His hand is still curled around yours. “I’m really glad you came, y’know.”
You smile softly. “Of course I did.”
“And… that guy earlier,” he adds too casually, “Do you… know him?”
There it is—the tiny crack in his voice.
And something sinks in your stomach. You’re exhausted—raw beneath the skin. And you’re way too tired to explain the history he’s scarred you. Not today. Not after this win. Not when he’s glowing like a sun you don’t want to dim.
So you answer gently, “Not really. Don’t worry about it.”
Yuji’s silent.
But you can feel the tension humming beneath his ribs as he tries to read your face. After a few steps, he murmurs, barely audible underneath his breath. “Hey, so… did you really cheer that loud?”
You grin. “Yeah. For you.”
“Then why do you look so tired?” he asks.
Your steps falter. “I’m fine.”
His brows pinch. He looks at you closely.
“You don’t have to say ‘fine’ just because you think it’s easier,” he says. “I can handle it. Whatever it is.”
But your mind is still tangled from the morning, from the noise, from everything you haven’t wanted to burden anyone with. You look away.
It should’ve been easy—Yuji’s arms around you, the campus buzzing with leftover cheers, Megumi shouting something smug in the distance, Nobara somewhere in the corner of your eye. Everything is loud, and warm, and safe.
But Yuji doesn’t see the phone screen still lighting up in your pocket.
He doesn’t notice how your fingers have been curling in on themselves, and suddenly, the sunlight feels too bright. Your pulse crawls up the back of your throat. Softly, without meaning to, you’re muttering under your breath.
“You’re not even here half the time. How are you gonna ‘handle it’?”
He catches it too, but he doesn’t say anything. You don’t even know he heard it… because you aren’t entirely wrong. He’s been either late or disappeared midway through the last three times you hung out. Last weekend, he ditched you mid-dance, and you told him it was fine—of course it was fine—it just stung more than you want to admit, and today, he barely made it to field day on time.
Something about helping someone, getting caught up, you weren’t even sure.
He’s always trying, always running. Always tired.
You don’t want to be another thing that drags him down.
“It’s nothing. You don’t have to worry about me today. You’ve got more important people to celebrate with.”
Yuji stops walking altogether. The shift is small—barely a misstep on the pavement—but it feels like the ground trembles.
“What?” he asks quietly.
“Everyone’s congratulating you. You should enjoy it. You don’t need to be glued to me.”
His face falls in slow motion. “Is that… what you think? That I’m only here because I feel like I should be?”
You don’t answer fast enough, and your silence hurts him more than any shouted insult could have. The tension that holds in the air now is unbearable.
His face contorts into a frown.
“Seriously?” he murmurs. “I just ran straight to you after the biggest game of the semester, and you think I wouldn’t choose you?”
His voice wavers, and you quickly shake your head, tilting your head to look at him. “Yuji, that’s not—”
“No, it’s okay,” he says, stepping back, eyes darting everywhere except your face.
“Yuji—” His expression ruins you, and now, you wish more than anything but to take back your words.
He swallows hard. “I get it."
There it is.
The crack in the glass. The place where he breaks. You reach out for him, but all he does is step away.
“You know I didn’t mean that, I was just tired—”
“I’m sorry,” he whispers, and the cheering behind you erupts, but the world between you stills.
The stadium burst into cheers for the next round of the competition, and his teammates are shouting his name, waving him over for the afterparty. “Yuji! Let’s go!”
He hesitates.
Because he wants to stay. You can see that. But still, he pulls his hand back.
“I’ll be right back, okay?” he says, smiling the way he always does—the one that makes your chest warm and ache and twist all at once. “Promise.”
You just… nod. It’s easier than saying you’re not sure you believe it anymore.
And even in the blinding afternoon sun, the warmth he leaves you with still feels cold.
The bleachers, the crowd, the pats on his back—they all drift into nothing.
Nothing matters.
Not when guilt claws at him with each step he takes further from you. He can’t stop himself, though.
He doesn’t deserve you, and even when he sees the faltering pain in your eyes, when it seems like he’s ripped your whole heart out, even when he didn’t mean to—
He should walk away from you.
You deserve better.
But when the hair on his skin stands, the jolt of every nerve in his system sparking up, the dread of what he’s always feared crawls back up into him.
He runs straight back to you.
You slowly step away from the crowd, letting the chatter fade into the background. The noise of the campus stadium and cheering grows distant, muffled, yet every step feels heavier than the last. Your bag drags against your shoulder, but truthfully, that’s not even what’s weighing you down.
Each breath catches in your chest as you walk through the shortcut through the science wing. Home. You just want to go home now.
The afternoon sun glares against the metal supports of the demo tents. You barely notice them. Instead, your mind is wrapped up in everything, and you hate that you even feel this way. Hate that even until now, every time you think you’ve grown to be logical enough, your heart always gets the better of you.
Your steps echo softly within the hollow of your mind, seconds stretching into minutes, minutes into hours. You don’t even know how long you’ve been walking. How far you’ve wandered. All you know is that you’re all alone—both literally and in your head.
A loud metallic groan rips through the air.
Suddenly, the metal pole just above the building snaps. There’s no thought, and only the sudden, sickening realisation that it’s coming down.
Oh.
You just stand there, memories flashing through your eyes in replay.
Yuji flashes through your eyes.
This is it—
But suddenly… in the blink of an eye, all you see is a blur of red and blue.
Your chest slams against a familiar chest, and the world flips upside down for a heartbeat. Air screams past your ears. The pole crashes behind you, scattering debris, a deafening clatter that reverberates in your bones.
You gasp, clutching him, every nerve ending on fire. Pain lances through your arm where the pole grazed you, and your knee scrapes against the pavement as he manoeuvres you away.
The wind tears at your hair, and even in the chaos, your mind reels.
“You… you okay?” His voice is low, urgent, but behind the mask, it trembles.
It’s Spider-Man.
But you can’t answer. Your body shakes, each blink glowing hotter and hotter as the weight of everything finally crashes.
“I—I—” You can’t finish.
Your throat tightens, and you simply break in his arms. His grip tightens, swinging you back toward a safer alleyway, ignoring the chatter, the noise, and everything else.
“It’s okay… you’re okay. I’ve got you,” he whispers, and somewhere in the midst of it, his voice cracks.
“Hey, look at me. Just—just look at me,” he lowers himself beside you, knees hitting the cold concrete, his hands closing around yours with a trembling gentleness.
You choke on a breath, shaking your head furiously, face buried in your arms. “I can’t… I can’t—”
His voice softens, frays at the edges. “Please. Breathe. Just breathe.”
The tears spill faster, hot and relentless. You’re folding in on yourself, small and shaken, and the words slip out in pieces you can’t hold back.
“I—Yuji… I can’t… I just…” Your voice quivers. “I don’t want to be a burden. I don’t want to—”
“You’re not!” he almost shouts, but it cracks, breaking down into a whisper.
“Do you hear me? Your life matters. It matters.” His breath trembles. His hands cup your face now, fingers digging into the sides of your jaw as he kneels beside you. “And if no one else can keep you safe, then I will. I will. So don’t ever—ever say that again.”
Your sobs shake all the way through you, and he pulls you into him, arms banding around your body, holding you. Even then, the panic still claws at your ribs. He presses his forehead to yours, his voice barely holding itself together. “I’ve got you. Just… just trust me. Do you want to go home?”
You’re sobbing into his chest now. Your ribs are aching, your shoulders throbbing, and you’re stuttering in shallow gasps, yet somehow, with the last tiniest bit of strength left in you, you manage a nod.
His arms wrap around you again, lifting you gently. The wind roars past as he swings, your body cradled against his chest. The city blurs into streaks of silver and orange, but none of it grounds you. Everything still bites.
By the time he lands on your balcony, your legs buckle, and he sets you down with a quick turn away. Like he thinks he should leave. Like he thinks he’s the problem.
Your chest caves in.
“I can’t… I don’t—” you whisper, and then, with trembling fingers, you grasp his wrists.
He freezes, panic flashing behind the mask.
You tug him down to your level, breath shaky, heart ricocheting against your ribs.
You look up at him, heart pounding so loudly you can barely hear the storm around you—and for the first time, Yuji wants nothing more than to rip off his mask. Right here. Right now.
Because trust has always felt like something he wasn’t allowed to have… yet here you are, the one constant in the chaos of his double life, holding onto him like he’s the only steady thing in your world.
The home he was never sure Yuji Itadori deserves, not when Spider-Man’s saving lives, all the while Yuji is running late for another hangout somewhere else.
The slope of his jaw beneath the mask, the shape of his shoulders beneath the soaked suit, the faint scent of detergent he always uses at home. You’re exhausted—tired of the uncertainty, tired of the guessing—everything about him feels almost too familiar.
It breaks something loose inside you. “Yuji…?”
Your voice is barely more than a breath, but to him, it lands even harder than lightning.
He freezes.
He doesn’t breathe, doesn’t even move a muscle.
Not even when your fingers slide to the edge of his mask, and in a heartbeat of terror and clarity, you pull it up.
Your world stops.
The way his voice cracks in the exact shape of Yuji’s kindness, the way he whispers comfort with words only Yuji has ever spoken to you. The way he knows exactly how to hold you, just like Yuji did when you both danced in that one street.
And now, seeing him—wet-faced, trembling, eyes glassy with fear and relief—it hits you like a punch straight through the ribs.
“Y–You…” His voice breaks. “I’m sorry—I was going to tell you, I swear, I just—”
You don’t let him finish.
You just lean in and kiss him. Desperate, shaking. Relief, anger, and love all at once. Fear—that you could’ve lost him before you ever got to say any of it.
It’s right there and then he goes stiff with shock… before he finally melts with a shaky exhale, pulling you so close your feet practically leave the ground.
“You… you’re alive,” he whispers into your hair as he pulls back slightly, forehead resting against yours.
“I thought—God, I thought I lost you.” His voice cracks as he buries himself in the crook of your neck, arms still locked around you.
Your fingers curl into the back of his suit. “...Don’t go.”
He lifts his head, tears dripping down his cheeks. His forehead presses to yours, his breath shuddering.
“Stay. Please.”
You’re whispering, shaking. He looks at you for a second—and it doesn’t take another until his lips crash into yours again.
The floorboards creak. The air is heavy. Kiniro’s sleeping somewhere in the kitchen, but your legs are wrapped tight around Yuji’s waist now. He’s holding you up, fingers digging into your thighs.
“Wait—” He cuts you off with another kiss as he stumbles into the living room, lights still off.
Your hands gently clutch the back of his suit even tighter. Your kisses are sloppy, frantic, and desperate. He quickly yanks his mask off, throwing it straight at the couch while he lifts you like nothing with one hand.
“Sorry,” he mumbles, but he’s already back to nibbling your bottom lip, working his way up to your breathless gasps.
“Mm… Yuji,” Your fingers lace through the pink threads of his hair, ruffling through them as something pools just beneath your stomach.
The door rattles behind you as he pushes it open with your back against it, a creak rattling across, and when he does pull away, a drool lingers just between the two of you, and he looks up at you, lifted, like the most gorgeous angel ever. You pant, hand grasping his clothed bicep, as he presses a thumb under your chin, tipping your head further back.
He’s wanted this for the last five years of his life, and now here you are—lost in it and in his arms—he just might explode into a million pieces.
“I love you,” he peppers even more kisses, agonisingly dragging a trail from your chin, all the way up to your drooped eyelids, hazy, muzzy even as your breath heaves with each gasp. “So fucking much.”
Your heart’s also pounding loudly, and even when he plops you down on his bed, you refuse to let go. You watch as he fumbles the unbuttoning of your clothes, and you tilt your head back as he trails even more wet kisses on your face. His knee slides right between your legs.
Goosebumps trail each time his lips meet your skin, and his fingers are still gripped tight onto the flesh of your thighs. His bed, his taste, your head is so intoxicated with him, it’s driving you insane. Even inhaling the fresh lemon detergent of his sheets makes you nuzzle against it, whining as he plants yet another kiss on your neck.
“Slow down,” you sigh, threading your fingers through his hair as he trails down to your stomach, nails scratching his scalp as he nuzzles into your touch, kissing the thin fabric separating you from his desperate mouth.
But as drunk as he is, lost in the whirlwind of your moans driving him insanely, unbearably hot amidst the cold air, he pauses for a second.
Just above your stomach, he slowly turns to look up at you. “...Are you okay with this?”
He looks up at you like he’s worshipping a goddess, because even in all your dazedness, you’re drop-dead gorgeous—eyes glossy, lips curled, breath panting.
“Mhm…” He instantly snuggles his face into your stomach, making you giggle, “What the—Yuji!”
Every kiss feels like worship, his mouth tracing shakingly down the insides of your thighs until he reaches the heat between them. With a gentle press of his hands, he nudges your legs apart and slips your pants down your hips, letting them fall away completely.
He goes utterly still.
God, he thinks, it’s so fucking pretty. And even though he’s never done this before, not really, he’s seen enough, learned enough, to know what to do.
His thumbs glide through your slickness and gently spread you open, baring every trembling part of you to his stare. The cold whisper of air makes you shift and whimper, embarrassment warming your cheeks. You don’t see it, though—the way his gaze drops, dark with want, his breath nearly catching at the sight of you.
Slowly, he leans in, breath warm against you before his tongue draws a long, deliberate lick through your folds. He can’t help but utter a low, hungry groan rumbling from his chest.
“Fuck… taste so sweet,” he mutters against you, hips pressing hard into the mattress as if he can’t help himself.
“Yuji—” Your back bows off the sheets in an instant, a startled cry slipping out as your thighs snap around his head.
But he only growls softly in response, arms locking around your legs to hold you open for him. He doesn’t stop—not for a second—as he devours you, messy yet greedy, drinking down every drop of your sweet slick.
His throaty groan vibrates straight through you, sending shivers up your spine. Your jaw falls open, eyes fluttering shut as you melt back into the mattress. "You're so beautiful— so..."
He can’t help it—can’t help melting into your taste.
His mouth grows sloppier, jaw loosening so he can slurp louder, tongue moving with sprouting confidence. He circles your clit again and again, then dips lower, pushing his tongue clumsily but tenderly into your heat. His lashes brush his cheeks as he moves, muddled and klutzy—yet careful, and worshipping you with every greedy stroke.
Your fingers glide down your stomach, trembling as you reach for him, burying your hand in his hair. At the same time, your nails drag lightly across the nape of his neck as you tug him closer, guiding him deeper between your thighs. He groans into you, then pulls back only long enough to slick his fingers with his tongue before rubbing your clit in slow, deliberate circles. Silently, he watches your slick drip down, following the trail with dark, dilated eyes.
Your tongue slips out, thumb brushing your lower lip as you look down at him. The sight alone makes him shudder.
“Are you okay?” he murmurs.
Heat flares over your cheeks, but you nod with a soft, breathy hum, lips parted as he lowers his mouth again. He laps at your folds slowly, savouring you, sweet warmth spilling over his tongue while he keeps his gaze on you.
“Mhm… Yu…” you breathe, a small moan escaping as your lids grow heavy again.
Something warm blooms in his chest at the sight of you weakly squirming, voice all soft and sweet, and he dives back to your clit. His tongue flicks over the sensitive bud until your moans climb higher, your hips jerking. He’s rutting subtly into the mattress.
“Yu—ahh, I’m gonna—gonna cum—” Your legs tremble, thighs trying to snap shut on instinct, but he only tightens his arms around them, holding you open as his mouth works you through it—pushing you right to the edge.
And then you’re falling.
Your jaw drops slack, tongue lolling slightly as stars burst behind your eyelids. You gasp out a broken “Haagh—” all the while, soft, desperate moans spill from your lips.
The sound you make has him tensing all over again, breath catching as he leans in to press a soft kiss to your inner thigh. His eyes are half-lidded, lips parted, watching the way your lashes flutter, and how your body trembles with the aftershocks he pulled out of you.
He stares like he’s mesmerised.
And in the heat of it, he just can’t stop himself.
His thumb finds your clit again, pressing lightly, and your words dissolve into breathy whines. He's talking you through it. Watching as your pretty lashes kiss your cheeks as your hips lift, chasing more, and he gives it to you—sliding a finger inside with a low, desperate sound.
“Your voice… fuck—” he groans, the sound almost a plea.
You yelp, grip tightening—one hand buried in his hair, the other fisting the sheets.
Then he adds a second finger, humming as your walls stretch around him, giving you barely a heartbeat before he’s thrusting them in and out, building pace. Your eyes go wide, back arching sharply, nails sinking into his bicep as he peppers kisses up your neck.
“I—Y-Yuji—ahh, please—I just came—” Your voice breaks so sweetly it nearly kills him, and maybe he should give you a second to breathe—but he’s already kissing down your chest, already pulling your top up without you noticing, clumsily unclasping your bra with unsteady fingers.
He’s dreamed of tasting you like this for years. God, you can’t even imagine.
His tongue drags over your nipple, lips closing around it as his fingers keep working you open, and all he can think—watching you squeeze his arm, bury your face in his shoulder, thighs trembling around his wrist—is how heartbreakingly cute you are, and how intoxicatingly soft your breasts feel.
Your legs shake as he finally pulls his fingers out, and he pops them into his mouth, sucking them clean while staring right at you in all his dazed hunger. You feel yourself grow embarrassed at the obscene sight, your lips part in silent awe, chest rising and falling as you watch him.
Finally, after what seems like forever, he reaches for his suit, unzipping it and letting it fall to the floor. His hands fumble with his boxers—slow, torturous—and you can’t tear your gaze from the dark shape straining against the fabric.
When it slips free, your breath catches. Your heart lurches into your throat.
It’s fucking huge. Your pupils blow wide, a tiny sound catching in your throat. He gathers the pre-cum on his thumb, spreading it over the swollen head before settling beside you on the bed.
“'Kay, angel…” he exhales, voice shaking, “think we’re… good…”
Your face burns, dizzy with need. His lips find yours again as he rocks his cock through your slick folds, coating himself, teasing you both. You grind up instinctively, but he pulls back with sudden panic in his eyes. “Shit—condom—”
You cut him off. “I’m safe.”
He freezes. Looks at you once, and his fingers tremble. Both of you are flushed, breathless, then he kisses you again—harder, desperate.
“I fuckin—“ he’s gasping through each clumsy kiss, “fuck—I love you—so fuckin’ much.”
The words—messy, breathless, dripping with sincerity—turn your mind to nothing but mush. By the time he settles back between your thighs, lifting your legs high around his waist, you’re already trembling. A slow, burning stretch blossoms inside you as he presses just the head of his cock in.
“Tell me if it hurts,” he murmurs.
“Ngh—Yuj—” you start, but he kisses you before the rest can leave your lips, fingers threading through your hair with such tenderness it makes your chest ache.
“You’re, urgh, doing so well… Yeah…” He watches in fascination at the lewd scene of your cunt taking in his cock. “Fuck—so fuckin’ good—“
He's panting, eyes fixed on where your body’s parting around him. He’s only seen stuff like this on his phone, but it doesn’t compare to the real thing, and the sight alone makes him choke on a groan.
Your moan breaks loose, higher and needier as he rocks his hips, inching in deeper. You’re tight—so tight—and the mix of pressure and pleasure has you clinging to him, whining when his hand squeezes your thigh.
“I-It’s okay, angel—fuck, b-breathe,” he huffs, eyes squeezing shut as a low groan rumbles out of him. “I’m not gonna last like this, baby.”
The name hits you like a spark—your body involuntarily clenches around him, and he notices instantly. He lifts his head despite the sweat trailing down his temple, a breathless, smug little smile tugging at his lips.
“You l-like that, baby?” he teases, voice cracked and warm. His hand cups your chin, guiding your gaze back to him as he pants through the ache.
“Y-Yuj…” you whisper, gasping as he sinks in deeper. You nuzzle instinctively into his palm, stroking your cheek.
And fuck—you can’t expect him to hold back when you’re kissing the rough heel of his hand like that.
He can’t doesn’t wait for you to adjust fully. His mouth crashes onto yours, tongue greedy and eager as he kisses you like he’s drowning. Because really, he is, with how his knees shake as he digs into the mattress, all before he slowly thrusts forward—each controlled drag burying more of his thick length deeper inside you.
You cling to him, nails digging into his broad shoulders, into the hard cut of muscle beneath his skin, and he grunts at the sting, hips rutting deeper, each movement slow and heavy enough to make your breath stutter.
You feel everything—every ridge, every pulse, every maddening inch of him, and your moans twist into soft, breathy cries, mixing with his low, guttural groans against your lips.
You don’t even hear how the room’s engulfed with nothing but the lewd squelches echoing through the quiet now, his hips softly plapping against you, grunting in your ear whenever you unintentionally clench around him.
Your soft whines turn into sweet cries, and his eyes dilate in awe, cheeks flushed as your vision blurs. Your wet lips part, crying his name over and over, and with each cry, you can feel him somehow grow even larger as he kisses your cervix like he’s addicted.
“Angh—wait!” you whine, grasping his nape, back arching as he continues his torturous pace, the burning yet filling stretch leaving you breathless.
Your mind is scrambled, completely lost to the pleasure as you try to adjust, but he’s already slowly picking up his pace. And it didn’t matter how pathetic your whines got, or how much you came, because he's just kissing you with worship, peppering every part of you like you’re heaven itself, tongue peeking into your mouth again.
And he’s hooked. Hooked with how every time he tries to pull, you’re sucking him back in.
“It’s too much—Yuj—Please—“ and he’s also whimpering right above you.
“Haah—Fuck, fuck, I’m close, baby—“ his lips part, groaning when you instinctually clench around him again.
He swallows each pathetic whine of yours and vice versa, grunting into you with every thrust, both of you panting against each other.
Your mouth’s dangling open with trails of drool, and each time he whispers sweet praises of how gorgeous you are, you can’t help but string out moans and whimpers, filling the thick air of his bedroom. “You’re taking me… so well… ”
You can hardly squeeze any comprehensible thoughts out of you, and your head falls back against him, strength slipping away, hips quivering as quiet whimpers escape you. “Hnngh, Y-Yujiii..."
“Can I cum inside?”
“M-Mhmm,” you agree instantly, breath catching as your body betrays you. You’ve forgotten long ago, anyway, how to resist him.
A certain shiver ripples through you, and Yuji’s pace picks up even more, breath even heavier for the release he's been saving just for you, his whole life.
“Baby,” He pleads. “Fuck, baby, please—Look at me,”
The same strong hand on your jaw softly tilts your head to turn, and your eyes meet his dilated pupils. “Can you feel that? Feel what you do to me? What you’ve been doing to me, baby? Ngh—”
You feel him rolling the rest of his cock deeper inside you while he’s whimpering, and all at once, the air seems to leave your lungs as he slides his arms beneath your thighs, lifting you effortlessly. Before you can even register what’s happening, he’s standing with you in his arms, the weight and closeness leaving your heart racing.
"Does this feel better for you?”
As if. Your legs go weak in his arms, trembling as your body twitches now with every subtle movement he makes. You’re completely at his mercy, breath catching and chest rising and falling faster than you can control. Tiny, messy traces fall from your lips, dripping out onto the floor with soft splatters down below.
He spreads you out wider, aims sliding beneath your thighs, and fingers digging into the plush of your thighs. You feel like you’re simply floating, all whilst he hauls you up and down his cock, leaving you helpless as you sink back into everything he’s sliding desperately into you.
“N-Ngh, Yuj—!” Your voice catches, eyes misting as he burrows closer into the crook of your neck.
A deep, almost dizzying warmth pulses through you, and suddenly, it all bursts. Your hands claw at his back, squirming and desperate for the grounding presence of him. He huffs against your skin as well, breath ragged. His voice drops eager, and you feel it shiver straight through you. “Haah… I’m so close.”
All you can do is tremble around him, giving a slow, lazy nod, lost in the crazed intensity between you.
He’s spilling every rope of cum inside you, and even through it, he doesn’t stop. He keeps a slower, gentler pace, thrusts kissing your cervix even more like he’s thanking you, same as how he’s peppering your face with kisses now.
"Yuji…"
He pants softly in your ear, plopping his cock out tiredly from your hole and onto your bed below. Both of you are still heaving; your bodies stay pressed tightly together.
You murmur from underneath his weight, voice muffled against his shoulder, and it makes him melt as he still holds you close.
“I love you so much... Fuck, I’m sorry I acted like a jerk,” he whispers, gazing into your tired, adoring eyes. “I’ll jump off a cliff if I ever make you cry again.”
You laugh, playfully punching his arm. With a quick peck to his nose, you’re already readjusting so you can straddle him again.
He traces a finger gently along your lips, a little grin on his face.
You raise a brow. “What?”
“Can we um—“ he leans in for a quick kiss, “Can we try doggy style now?”
Okay, cross his weird cooking shows—you’re monitoring his weird porn stash too.
Everything aches when you wake up.
Your arms are stiff, and your legs are all sore, peppered with bite marks and faint crescents from last night. Sunlight filters through the peeping blinds, painting golden stripes across the bed, but that’s not the only weight you’re feeling on top of you.
Yuji’s arm is draped over yours now, warm and comfortably heavy. He’s sprawled on his stomach beside you, hair a chaotic mess, eyelids shut, face practically buried in the pillow. You shift slightly, wincing at the soreness, and his eyes snap open like he’s sensed you awake.
Under his breath, a groan escapes him, followed by a tilt of the head as he glances at you, face squished adorably into the pillow. The memories of last night hit you like a freight train, and your face instantly blooms scarlet.
“Good morning,” he whispers, lips curling into a smile.
“…Morning,” you croak, voice hoarse.
He instantly breaks into laughter, rolling lazily onto his back beside you while you frown at him, still too self-conscious.
Your gaze drifts over him unconsciously, eyes tracing over last night’s scratches on his broad back. The little ridges where his elbows pressed into you, his chest rising and falling from sleep and… other marks. His ears are pink, warm under the sunlight, and he buries his face into your hair, all snuggled with you. Both of you stay like that for a few heartbeats, breathing each other in, disbelief lingering like the soft haze after fireworks.
Eventually, you reach for your phone, which you’d carelessly tossed on the bedside table yesterday. But when the lock screen lights up, your heart nearly jumps out of your throat.
“What—” Yuji murmurs, groggy and confused.
“I have class in thirty minutes!” you gasp, scrambling off the bed despite the soreness. “I cannot miss this one!”
His eyes instantly widen, and before you can blink, he’s already on his feet. He rushes over to your side, scooping you into his arms as he carries you bridal-style to the shower.
“I’ll get your clothes, uh— hold on!” he calls, and just like that, he’s darting to your room, leaving you blinking and flustered.
The shower’s warmth does little to soothe the ache of your limbs, but you linger just long enough to pull the towel tight around yourself. When you finally do open the bathroom door, you freeze.
Spider-Man. In. The. Flesh.
He’s standing there, folded clothes in hand, looking every bit like the superhero he is. Though the awkward, nervous smile beneath it? 100% Yuji. You pause, staring, and when you finally reach for your clothes, you whisper a hurried thanks, cheeks burning.
He gives a little wave back at you.
You’re not telling him thanks, this time, though—when fast-forward five minutes, you’re in the air, soaring past skyscrapers, strapped in some ridiculous ghost mask he bought last Halloween.
Your stomach flips every time the wind picks up, hair whipping across your face, and the city below blurs into dizzying streaks of light. When you eventually land in a quiet alleyway, you’re gasping for breath, legs trembling, and he finally lets go of your waist. You glance at your watch.
Ten minutes left—cue panic.
You start to turn and dash, but can’t resist sneaking one last glance over your shoulder. Yuji simply stands there, chest heaving, mask slightly crooked, head tilted. He's waving you to get moving already.
But you can’t leave it at that, so quickly, you run back, grab his clenched fists gently in one hand, and lift his mask just slightly to plant a brief peck on his lips.
“Thanks,” you whisper. And before he can say a word, you’re off—rushing back into the bustle, heart hammering, adrenaline still sending quivers through your shaky legs.
"Oh my god...." He dramatically leans back against the cold alley wall, sliding down slowly while clutching at his own head beneath his zipped get-up.
His suit definitely needs an upgrade from Megumi, he thinks, because you’d left him totally knocked out.
And right now, his brain is half-filled with how easily you just slipped away—the other half overclocking on how he's so, so down bad for you.
A pigeon coos from above, judgmental in its stare.
Class has barely ended when your phone buzzes. The hallway is in its usual chaos—sneakers squeaking across scuffed linoleum, laughter ricocheting, backpacks slung over shoulders. You’re juggling your bag, your water bottle, and an overdue sense of exhaustion as you pull out your phone, fully expecting a group chat notification or a calendar reminder.
But then you see the name on the screen. Yuji.
Yuji: look at the manhattan bridge :))
Your brows knit, confused, but curiosity wins still, and you turn toward the tall window overlooking the city, breath fogging faintly against the cold glass. The sky is rinsed in a soft apricot glow today, dripping over the skyline like spilt honey. Its golden hour tints with warmth, enough to melt even the sharpest edges of steel and glass.
And that’s when you see it.
Strung between the beams like frost, shimmering in the golden, like it’s snared a wandering cloud amidst the bleeding sky—three words are strung across the Manhattan Bridge in enormous, gleaming webs.
Each letter is woven thick, looped around half a dozen times so they won’t blow away in the wind.
Your eyes widen. There is absolutely no way.
I LOVE YOU.
Your heart skips violently, and your breath stumbles out of your chest in a gasp.
A stupid, giddy laugh bubbles out of you before you can stop it, and your hand flies to your mouth as if you can physically push your stunned smile back in.
“Idiot…” you whisper.
Around you, other students press against the windows, whispering, pointing. Someone mutters,
“Brother did a whole Hollywood sign…”
“Is Spider-Man in love?? With who??”
Your phone buzzes again.
Yuji: empty classroom, east wing. the one w the broken light. hurry! :(
You bite the inside of your cheek, trying to fight off the warmth spreading through your chest as you practically float down the hallway. Your steps are light, your face is on fire, and your heart's busy doing backflips inside.
By the time you reach the forgotten old classroom in the east wing, your pulse is sprinting. The door sits slightly open, the flickering ceiling light casting lazy pulses of brightness across the desks like it’s trying, yet failing, to stay conscious.
You push the door open.
And there he is. Yuji stands near one of the desks, mask pulled back and tucked into his hood, pink-peach curls mussed from the wind.
His cheeks are flushed, hoodie slightly crooked, and even though he’s leaning like he’s been waiting forever, he probably swung here mere seconds just before you arrived.
How do you know that? Because the flowers in his hands look like they've just gone through hell and back.
When he sees you, something in him softens so completely it makes your breath catch.
“Hey,” he says, smile tugging gently at the corners of his mouth.
It’s so pure, so bright, it almost tricks you into thinking he didn’t just do something as insane as webbing a literal confession across a whole bridge.
You let out a breathy laugh as you approach him. “Yuji… you webbed the entire Manhattan Bridge.”
He rubs the back of his neck, practically glowing.
“I—uh—wanted to make sure you saw it?” He winces. “And that you didn’t think I was joking.”
His voice gentles. “I mean it.”
Before your brain can even catch up with your racing heart, he reaches out. His hands slip like usual to your waist.
He looks at you like sunlight through glass, stars folding into themselves—unfathomable heaven of devotion graced into every line of his expression.
“You ready to go home?” he asks softly.
You wrap your arms around him.
“Yeah,” you whisper, and his forehead drops to your shoulder in the tiniest, softest surrender.
He nuzzles into the crook of your neck, inhaling deeply as you giggle and ruffle his hair.
“I love you too, silly.”
Outside, the sun sinks slowly behind the skyline, ember light scattered across the room as it catches on a stray fleck of web on Yuji’s sleeve. It glows like silver fire as he lifts you effortlessly, stepping toward the window. You simply cling to him, heart soaring as he pushes the pane open and the cool wind rushes in.
With a soft laugh, Yuji leaps, both of you cutting through the evening breeze as the city roars beneath.
Taxis honk, trains rattle, pedestrians shout, but everything muffles the moment his arm curls tighter around you.
With him, flying feels safe.
With him, the city feels small.
With him, the skyline with I LOVE YOU strung across it feels like the only world that matters.
He steals a glance at you mid-swing, cheeks flushed, eyes bright.
New York watches as he swings past skyscrapers—and this time, he isn't alone. He holds you like he has nowhere else to be but by your side, basking in the afterglow of a love he had written across the skyline just for you.
Petals float below from the two of you, and you say his words back. Barely louder than the wind, but just enough for him, and only him, to hear.
It's what you’ve found between this litany of quiet you’ve both settled into:
“Home.”

Thinking about Yandere Gojo notorious for getting into fights in school. The top student despite seeming to spend most of his time wandering the halls. Pretty face and tall build making him immensely popular amongst the students and even some teachers. Gojo who everyone talks about but few talk to unless they want something from him.
Teachers thought you would be a good, calming influence on him. The only person they could think of to seat next to him in classes trusting that neither would you be provoked by him picking a fight with you and neither would you try to flirt with him. He found you boring like the rest of your peers did until you made the mistake of defending him.
Word count: 12k+ (Supposed to be 2k but this monstrosity got away from me)
Note: Not canon-compliant, yandere and violent behaviour. Slow burn yandere, takes a while to get to the crazy.
Gojo took one look at the nerd sitting in the desk next to his usual one at the back next to the window and glanced over to the balding homeroom teacher with his brows raised. There was no way you had sat there of your own accord. You looked too puny to be trying to take him on for strongest in the school and if you were there to flirt you at least would have tried to tame down the bedhead a little.
He set down his bag on the table, seeing you jump as his textbooks knocked against the wood and made a loud noise. Reminding him of a jumpy little rabbit but still you didn't even turn to look his way. He pulled out the chair and slumped down on it, long legs having trouble fitting beneath the desk, another reason he liked to sit at the back so he had a little extra room.
"Hey rabbit, why are you sitting here?" Gojo asked.
"Sugoshi Sensei asked me to." You responded without taking your eyes off the workbook you were furiously scribbling on.
Gojo turned his glare back to the balding man at the front, rolling his eyes when the man was already looking at him. He wasn't an asshole enough to make your life hard when you clearly had no interest being here anymore than he wanted you here, but the old geezer definitely had it coming. Gojo liked resting his legs up on that desk next to him but now he'd have to sit straight while the old bore droned on.
He didn't go to his next period, choosing instead to walk over to the convenience store and buy himself a chocolate milk. Wandering around the little streets that surrounded the school instead of going to his second period.
When he got to third period he was surprised to see you sitting next to his usual spot again. The teacher of this class a middle aged woman who liked to hold him back to discuss his future and then make eyes at him while she told him about how she believed in his potential. It was too bad she wasn't his type and she certainly wasn't getting so much as a graze of his hand now with the stunt she'd pulled.
It was like you were in every class, there before he was. Taking up the desk he normally used as a leg rest. He ignored you in the rest of the classes, legs cramped by last period from being forced to fold uncomfortably on the low chairs that weren't made for people as tall as him.
He took the long way to the internet cafe he usually went to afterschool, the other kids who had taken to frequenting it because he went there taking up all the computers, except the one with the buggy mouse.
"Hey move." Gojo said to one of the kids whose name he couldn't be bothered to remember who sat at his usual computer. It had the vantage point of the screen not being turned towards the rest of the cafe so he could do whatever he wanted without everyone gawking at his screen. The kid with the buzzcut turned, standing up to his full height that was still a good six inches below Gojo.
"And if I don't?" The boy asked making Gojo smile for the first time that day.
He invited him outside politely, not wanting to risk getting banned from the internet cafe. Leaving buzzcut leaned up against a tree a couple storefronts down from the cafe with a bruised and swollen face, nearly out of consciousness but still managing to promise he would regret this making Gojo laugh.
Gojo returned to the cafe, the kids sitting inside quietening the moment he opened the door telling him all he needed to know about the topic for the day. Two of the guys left, presumably to go get their friend, though they weren't such great friends for waiting till after their friend had gotten a beating before making their move. It was a pity they were so disloyal, he could have used more of a workout today. Beating just one kid with a bad attitude wasn't enough to work out all the kinks in his muscles.
Over the next few days he went to class even less than usual, classes were unbearable as it was but having to sit in that tiny desk made them downright painful.
You had been worried when the teachers in each of your classes besides math and history told you to go sit next to Gojo Satoru. The boy with perpetually bruised knuckles who everyone knew better than to sit next to.
Gojo Satoru always sat with the utmost disrespect, long legs extended out before him and feet resting on the desk next to his, bright blue eyes either looking down at his phone or out the window.
A part of you had been convinced that you would get a black-eye for daring to take his footrest but didn't have the guts to argue with teachers. Hopefully he wouldn't hit you too hard and then they'd be forced to let you switch.
To your surprise Gojo simply ignored you after asking why you were sitting there. Being called a rabbit was strange but then Gojo never really remembered anyone's names, using descriptive terms or nicknames that no one questioned in their place.
He wasn't too bad to sit next to once you got over the initial anxiety that he was going to punch you. Quiet and didn't pester you with questions about the school work or borrowing your notes the way other kids did. Not that he'd need them, everyone knew Gojo got the best grades in the school. Though there were rumours that was due to his rich parents buying his grades but either way it left him uninterested in your school work.
Other than taking up too much room due to his hulking physique, he was actually an improvement from your past desk mates. Just if kids didn't swarm around your desks so much to talk to him, he would have been the ideal student to sit next to.
You struggled to focus on the math homework you still had to complete, having not been able to get through all the problems during lunch while a group of students loudly giggled and jeered around you.
Two of the idiots were playing catch over your head with their gym bag that smelt putrid. You held your hand up to your nose to try to block out the smell, glancing back just in time to see one of the idiots trip while trying to catch the bag, flailing to stop himself from falling forwards and onto you. You barely had time to put your hands up in front of your face, hoping only to minimize damage but a large pale hand caught hold of the boy’s hoodie, tugging backwards to keep him from falling onto you.
"Watch it sweaty pits, you nearly crushed the rabbit." Gojo said, answering your question as to who the terrible smelling bag belonged to.
"Thanks." You said and Gojo only nodded, going right back to his conversation with a girl who was practically standing on his feet while flirting.
A couple days later in third period he dropped down a chocolate milk on your desk.
"BOGO at the convenience store. You want it?" He asked and you nodded, hesitantly grabbing it. He looked away, spending the rest of the period staring out the window as usual and after carefully inspecting the carton to ensure it hadn't been tampered with as subtly as you could, you opened it and drank the chocolate milk while taking notes.
You were discomforted by the way the teacher of this class stared at the boy beside you. Walking by your desks often, resting a hand on his shoulder and asking him to start doing his work.
Her face turned red when she saw the disgusted look you hadn't even realized you were wearing seeing her grope Gojo's shoulder under the pretense of asking why he wasn't starting the homework assignment she gave. Gojo seemed to see it too and let out a bark of laughter making her look almost furious. Her glare softening as it turned on him when he rose to ask to go to the washroom, though he would most likely not come back the rest of the period.
You didn't know the boy who sat next to you in nearly every class well but knew enough from proximity alone to know that half of the rumours about him were a lie. He sadly really did earn his grades, finishing every exam and quiz first even though you spent so much more time studying than he did. And that basketball player's girlfriend everyone had accused him of seducing had been the one to fawn all over him in chemistry. Asking him repeatedly to go to her house for a study session.
So when you heard some students gossiping that the reason he was doing so well in English was because he hit on the teacher, you couldn't help yourself but pipe up to defend him.
"He's doing well because he's smart and for the record it's that creepy old woman that keeps hitting on him. If you don't know him, shouldn't you not talk about him?" You asked the group of freshman who were blocking your way into the library. Completely oblivious to Gojo who had been coming down the stairs and heard the way you defended him.
Blue eyes tracking you as you stomped past the group of horrified freshman who had seen him come up behind you to listen and feared they would get a demonstration of the infamous Gojo Satoru's fighting skills. It was lucky for them he was too preoccupied thinking about the loyal little rabbit he had never realized was brave enough to stick up for him to terrorize them.
From that day on Gojo Satoru stopped ignoring you, though you had no idea why. He pestered you about the homework you were working on, annoying you by telling you all the questions you had gotten wrong. Asking you what you did at lunch and surprised to hear you spent it in the library.
"So when do you eat?" He asked.
"I eat my lunch there too."
"They don't let you take the cafeteria food in there."
"I don't eat the cafeteria food." You said, leaving it at that but then curious about what you did eat he started following you to the library at lunch.
"Milk bread, is that really all you're eating?" He asked, fascinated by the way your ears reddened at the tips and you grumbled out about the cafeteria food being overpriced and not tasting as good as your milk bread.
"No wonder you're so short." He said and you simply blinked at him, not wanting to stroke his ego by saying he was a giant. Choosing to ignore him instead and hope he would go away.
"So where are your friends?" He asked.
"Don't have any." You mumbled, people would probably be embarrassed over that but it never really bothered you. You didn't have time for friends. You spent every spare moment in school studying or doing your homework since you worked a part-time job after school.
"Me neither." He said, blue eyes taking on a weird glint you missed since you had your head bent over your history notes.
You assumed he was merely trying to spare your feelings since he was constantly surrounded by others but Gojo didn't consider any of them to be his friend. Every one of them seemed to hover around him because they wanted something. To leech off his popularity, leech off his money or learn what it was like to sleep with the Gojo Satoru. All except you, who didn't really want to be there and never asked him for anything.
You had assumed his attention would be short-lived and once the curiosity he had about you was abated, he would go back to leaving you alone. Unfortunately that didn't happen. Suddenly he was attending every class, waiting out in the school yard till you arrived so he could walk with you to your first period. His attendance perfect in all classes besides the two he didn't have with you.
You weren't the biggest fan of the change, now with him taking up all your time with his chatter, you had less time to focus on your homework. That resulted in you having to do it at night when you got home from work which disrupted your sleep making you crankier.
You blamed it on your lack of sleep for getting you into this situation. 99% sure Gojo was about to punch your daylights out. He had been pestering you as usual while you did your math problems in homeroom silent study. Telling you in a sing-song voice that was getting on your last nerve that your answer was incorrect and he'd tell you where you went wrong if you looked at him.
"Do you ever shut up?" You asked, your voice rising over the quiet chatter of the other students which died out immediately as everyone heard what had been said to Gojo Satoru. Gojo had put kids in the hospital for far less. Your eyes widened in horror at realizing what you had said and more importantly to who.
Your face went pale as your heartbeat picked up. Blood rushing through your ears making you feel faint as you stayed deadly still, waiting for Gojo to make his move.
"Only when I'm eating. Say wanna share some of that milk bread of yours with me? I skipped breakfast to make it here on time." Gojo said and you could practically here everyone's jaws drop to the floor.
"H-here." You said, digging it out of your bag and offering it up to him with trembling hands. Hoping it would be seen as a peace offering and save your life.
"Thanks." He said, tearing it open and breaking off half. Holding the rest out to you which you took back gingerly. Flinching when he moved his hand back suddenly.
"Don't save it for lunch. I feel like eating pizza and you're coming with me." Gojo said and you nodded, wondering if this was a new form of bullying.
By the time lunch came around you had convinced yourself he was luring you off school grounds to beat you up. Somewhere secluded where no one would interfere.
You tried to make excuses to avoid going. Saying you had a test next period but the freak seemed to know even what was going on in the classes of yours he wasn't in. Then trying to tell him you had an appointment with the guidance counsellor but he merely told you to reschedule it. Telling him you were sick and couldn't eat didn't work because your stomach chose to growl loudly right at that moment making him laugh and snatch your bag. Swinging it over his shoulder and telling you the only way you'd get it back was if you went with him.
You couldn't afford to buy those textbooks again so you had to follow him. Wary eyes tracking his every movement, just waiting for him to try to shove you into an alleyway. When you made it to the pizza place without incident you were really quite confused. Asking for your bag back so you could pay for a slice after he was done ordering, his face blanking as he stared down at you.
"I ordered a whole pizza so we could share." He said.
"Oh well let me pay you for half then." You said, reaching for your bag again but he stepped out of the way.
"Don't worry about it." He said, ruffling your hair. Surprised at how soft it was. He reached for your hair again but you pushed away his hand with a glare that made him laugh. Jumpy as a rabbit and about as threatening as one too.
He'd never noticed before but you were oddly cute. Grumpy and withdrawn but in a way that came off as endearing instead of boring like he had first assumed. You glanced at him and a weird fluttering feeling occurred in his stomach, he would have thought he was sick if it hadn't been strangely pleasant.
You both sat there to have your pizza. Gojo quizzing you on all your favourite foods and polishing off slice after slice with ease. You ate about a quarter of the pizza before declaring you were done. Gojo tried to make you eat more but you told him you were full and he blamed your appetite on only eating milk bread for lunch for god knows how long.
By the time you both finished, fourth period had started and when you caught sight of the time you made a run for it. Gojo watching you for a second in stunned surprise before darting after you with a whoop. Covering double the distance with his freakishly long legs making him frequently outpace you and then circle back, cheering you to go faster.
By the time you both got to class you were winded from the run, a painful stitch in your side and Gojo was grinning ear to ear. Watching you keeled over trying to catch your breath and all he could think about was how he had never had that much fun with anyone before.
That day he tried to convince you to come to the internet cafe, very perplexed to learn that you had a part-time job to get to. He hadn't known high school students worked. Much to your chagrin he followed you to the little supermarket you worked at.
Following you around as you stocked items and leaning up against the counter as you cashed out customers. Earning compliments about what a handsome young man he was from the old women who frequented the store.
Soon that became your routine, Gojo waited outside the school for you to arrive. You sat next to him in all your classes besides two which he both walked you to and collected you from. Either followed you to the library at lunch or forced you to accompany him out by hijacking your school bag.
Annoyed the few times you managed to pay for the food but secretly relieved you weren’t just putting up with him for his money. Trying to tell you he should pay since he wasn't the one who worked hard for his money but you merely replied that surely his parents would cancel his cards if they found out he was spending money so recklessly. You clearly had no idea just how rich his parents were and he was in no rush to tell you, he'd rather you think of him as normal.
At the end of the day he would follow you to your part-time job. The middle aged man who owned the store had been very skeptical at first about having him hang around but then seeing all the female customers he attracted, he had become much more welcoming. Offering Gojo fruit cups and candy on the house.
You spent most of your day with him Monday to Friday so when he asked what you were doing over the weekend you drew the line. Putting your foot down about him not being allowed to see you on the weekend even if it meant telling the Gojo Satoru no.
Weekends were the days you spent relaxing after your hectic week. Sleeping in, eating junk food and watching movies. Studying only if you needed to which since Gojo had decided he was going to spend most of the school day distracting you, became more often.
On Monday when you got to school Gojo was there, head cast down and you only realized why when you got closer. The skin around his right eye was a terrible mix of black and blue. You had never seen Gojo Satoru with anything other than bruised knuckles before but even that had stopped for a while. When you glanced down at his hands, both palms were wrapped in gauze, knuckles unharmed.
"Have you iced it?" You asked and he shook his head, watching you silently. You grabbed the cuff of his sleeve, tugging him along behind you to the nurse's office. His eyes on your little hand that gripped his sleeve and he had the strangest urge to push his hand into yours instead. Before he could act on the impulse you were at the nurse's office.
The school nurse got Gojo an ice pack, muttering under her breath about how usually it was Gojo sending people to her office. She had been holding the ice to his face but was called away by the principal, handing it to you as she left. He expected you to just hand it to him, taken aback when you stepped close to the cot he sat on, pressing the ice pack gingerly to his bruised eye. Worried it may hurt for him to hold the ice bag since both his hands were also hurt. Your face contorting into a pained grimace as though you were the one who had gotten hurt.
He was suddenly all too aware of his heartbeat, never having felt so keenly the closeness of another person in his life. He could practically count your lashes at this distance, seeing flecks of honey in your eyes that he had never noticed before. The shape of your parted lips, your tongue that darted out to wet them making him gulp and look away. A red flush spreading over his pale cheeks worrying you that he had a fever.
You pressed your hand to his forehead, then checked your own but didn’t sense any significant difference. The feel of your skin against his had his mouth going dry.
"You look feverish but you don't have a fever. Maybe you're just overheated. Take off your sweater." You said and he complied, pulling the hoodie over his head.
Your expression went blank as his toned upper body was revealed. So pale and perfectly proportionate he looked like he was cut from marble. Shoulders and chest too broad to belong to a high schooler, waist tiny enough to make you jealous and arms packed with muscle that showed why he was considered the strongest.
“I thought you’d have something underneath. Put it back on.” You said, disgusted by how pretty he was and not wanting to be faced with such nauseating perfection so early in the morning. He complied, confused as to why you looked mad.
“Are you not going to ask what happened?” He asked. Normally he hated when people tried to stick their nose in his business but it made him weirdly upset that you didn’t care to ask.
“I’m sure you’d tell me if you wanted to.” You said simply, silence settling between you two as you continued to hold the ice pack to his eye.
He’d never wanted to tell anyone about his asshole dad before. It wasn’t like they would actually care nor could they do anything about it. It would only make his dad angrier to learn he’d blabbed to someone about what he called family conflict. Though beating your kid the few times a year you actually managed to be home wasn’t much conflict in Gojo’s perspective.
“It was my dad.” Gojo said, voice quiet and almost small in a way you’d never heard before.
“Does it happen often?” You asked.
“No he’s only home a couple days of the year.”
“Is he going to be home tonight?” You asked and Gojo nodded, eyes on the white tiles of the nurse’s office floor.
“You can sleep over at mine until he’s gone.” You said and Gojo’s head flew up. He’d been thinking of staying at the Internet cafe and only going home in the morning to shower and change. But staying at your house, getting to be in your house, with you sounded so much better.
"Is that really okay?" Gojo asked, suddenly grabbing your hand that held the ice bag in his, uncaring of the way it aggravated the cut on his palm. His dad had shoved him into the glass table and he had sliced his hands on the broken shards of glass while pushing himself back up.
You flinched back at how close he suddenly was. A near manic look on his pretty face that you mistook for desperation to be away from his dad.
"Of course, you're my friend aren't you?" You asked, slipping your hand carefully out of his so you could continue icing his face.
"Friend." Gojo muttered, tasting the word on his tongue. Mind more preoccupied with you calling him your anything. He liked that, the idea of belonging to you in some way.
Friends didn't seem like enough though, even the idiots who walked around in rowdy groups called each other friends. That wasn't enough to describe what was between the both of you but it could be a start.
That day Gojo made you do everything for him, from taking out and putting back the bags needed for each class, to feeding him his lunch to passing in his classwork which he never normally did but was enthusiastic about completing when you had to write his answers for him. You had drawn the line at undoing the zipper of his pants when he needed to go to the washroom. Needless to say by the the end of the day came around you were not excited about the impromptu sleepover.
Gojo looked at the little house you lived in with your mother with such curiosity and amazement as though exploring a relic from ancient times. Though compared to what you were sure was a fancy mansion or penthouse apartment, your little shack of a house probably seemed like something from another time.
Your mother was overjoyed to meet Gojo, so glad you had finally brought a friend home. A little less thrilled to find out he would be sleeping over but seeing his bruises and making her own assumptions she hadn't fought you over it. Simply telling you to ensure you ordered food for the both of your dinners instead of just getting something from the convenience store before she headed out to her night shift.
Gojo was thrilled to be alone with you in your house, turning overjoyed bright blue eyes over to you the moment she was gone. The sour look on your face could not bring down his good mood.
He sat right next to you on your raggedy couch watching TV as you both ate the convenience store bentos you had bought on the way home. Also having bought a bunch of extra snacks since you knew what Gojo's appetite was like after countless lunches spent seeing him pack away enough food for three grown men.
Your eyes began to droop as you both sat there watching episode after episode. You tried to fight it, telling yourself you needed to set out the futon for Gojo before you fell asleep but eventually lost the battle.
Gojo paused mid sentence as he felt a warm solid weight thunk onto his arm. Glancing down and his heart nearly stopping as he saw it was your head that was resting against him. For a moment he couldn't bring himself to move, heart pounding in his chest and blood rushing in his ears drowning out the sounds of the TV. Eventually he was able to gather himself enough to lean forward a bit and take a peek at your face. Heart clenching at the sight of you fast asleep.
Features that were normally twisted into an unimpressed look or glare now soft and slack with sleep. Lips parted, long lashes appearing to be resting on the apples of your cheeks. He became all too aware of his breathing and the way it made his body move up and down, trying to regulate it so it wouldn't disturb your sleep.
He was so grateful you didn't have any other friends. Just the thought of you so vulnerable in front of someone else filled him with the urge to break and to hurt.
Having you so close soothed him, normally after a run in with his father he would be out on the prowl for a fight to pick. A way to unleash the frustration and aggression that built up every time he was forced to confront the man that seemed like a demon who wore his face. However, there was nowhere he would rather be than here with you.
When you woke you couldn't help the scream that escaped you nor the way your hands flailed out smacking away the bright blue headlight like eyes that were staring a hole into you. Gojo let out a curse, clutching his hand over his eye.
Your terror abated into guilt as you caught your breath after getting the worst jump scare of your life.
"I'm so sorry but why were you watching me sleep?" You asked, trying to get a glance around his freakishly large hands to his face.
"I wasn't watching you sleep." Gojo grumbled, not very convincing when his ears were burning bright red in embarrassment.
"Do you need another ice pack?" You asked and he nodded.
You went to the kitchen to make an ice pack, bringing it back to the tv room where he was waiting. Hand still over his eyes making you feel even guiltier. You rushed over not seeing the empty bento container on the ground, slipping on it and going sprawling across Gojo's lap. Your forehead knocking into his mouth making him curse again and hand landing unfortunately right on his crotch. Telling you more than you ever wanted to know about how what they said about men with big hands was quite true.
You glanced up at him and the quiet string of curses he had been muttering stopped as he saw how close you were. If the weight of your head resting on his arm had been soothing, your warm weight in his lap was anything but. He pushed you off before you could feel first hand what you being so close was doing to him.
"Might have been safer on the street." He joked as a deflection, heart pounding as he quickly grabbed a pillow and put it over his lap.
"God I am so sorry Gojo." You said, holding out the ice pack not trusting yourself to put your hands anywhere near him at the moment.
"It's fine and call me Satoru. You're my friend aren't you?" Gojo asked.
"I don't think we're really close enough to be on a first name basis." You said.
"You just grabbed a solid handful of my junk. It's going to make me feel very cheap and used if you don't at least call me by my first name." He said and you snorted out a laugh, cheeks pinkening in embarrassment at what you had done. Gojo's heart feeling like it was being squeezed and wrung dry at seeing your smile and pink cheeks. The image softened by how sleep rumpled you still were.
"Fine Satoru." You relented and he was glad he had already placed that pillow on his lap. His name sounded so much better coming from you, like he really was something special. Someone held dear to someone.
"Now ice my eye. You really smacked me like you were trying to break open a pinata." He said instigating an argument over pinatas not being broken with bare hands though he insisted that was how he had broken open his own as a child.
You two bickered until it was time to go to bed. He seemed incredibly let down to learn he would be sleeping on a futon in the tv room.
"Can't I just sleep in your bed?" He asked making your eye twitch.
"No and if you have a problem with the futon then you can sleep on the floor." You said, ignoring his sulking as you laid everything out for him on the floor next to the couch.
"How about we stay up and talk?" He asked.
"No I need a break from hearing your nonsense even if it's just for - 6 hours." You said, checking your phone to see how many hours you had to sleep before getting up for school.
"You'd be bored without me." He said.
"I'd be peaceful." You retorted walking towards your room but turning back before you went through the door to bid him goodnight. His chest filling with a warm feeling. He couldn't remember the last time someone had bid him goodnight.
Gojo went to sleep that night with a smile on his face. Thoughts of you swarming his head, ears ringing with your voice saying his name. Those thoughts following him into his dreams. You may have wanted 6 hours away from him but he was glad he didn't have to endure that much without you.
The week passed with Gojo crashing at your place every night. The only time he truly left you were those two classes you had without him and every morning before school when he would run to his place to shower and change. Reassuring you that his dad left for work so early that there would be no chance of their paths overlapping.
You only realized his dad had left days ago when Gojo accidentally played out loud a voicemail from his condominium saying his dad had asked them to call him to set a time to come upgrade the locks since he was out of the country again. You turned to Gojo with a look of complete disbelief that morphed into rage when you saw the sheepish look on his face.
That night you forced him to return to his apartment though he begged and sulked for you to let him stayed another night but for your own sanity and clean criminal record you could not. He was driving you up the wall, you were used to being alone. Not growing up with any siblings or making any friends at school you spent your days alone and had the house to yourself at night since your mom worked.
Having another being as impossible to ignore as Gojo Satoru constantly in your space was overstimulating to your very sensitive and poorly developed social senses. Much to your misfortune the teachers in every class had decided that just making you sit next to him wasn't enough. They also decided to pair you with him for every class assignment or group project giving Gojo just the excuse he needed to invite himself back to your home.
You wanted to complain and scream but there was an advantage to being paired with the top student. Though you had to yell at him to do his work, when he did it, he did better than any of the other idiots in your classes or even you yourself could have done.
However not all assignments were done in pairs and for your English class you all had been put in groups of four to do book reports on your assigned novels. Gojo and you had been paired up with another two boys, one of which you remembered as the boy Gojo called sweaty pits who had nearly fallen onto you and another Gojo called curly for his big curly hair.
Curly seemed terrified of Gojo, avoiding eye contact as you too had done at first upon meeting Gojo. Sweaty pits was reluctant to get too close and be told off about how bad he smelled so both boys resorted to communicating with Gojo through you. For whatever reason that just made him meaner to them both and gave them more reason to be afraid.
Meeting up at the school library after school to research together had been a bust. Gojo entirely unwilling to cooperate and do his part, spending most of his time interrupting the conversations between you and the other two. Sweaty pits wasn't really an academic mind so most of the conversing was happening between you and curly and it was making Gojo boil over with rage.
He snapped the pencil he held in half when you snorted at something curly said. Seeing the boy's eyes widen at seeing your smile. Gojo knew firsthand the sight you made and the effect it had. The way your entire face lit up when you smiled, eyes crinkling and looking even brighter than usual. Something incredibly soft about you when you exhibited even the slightest amount of happiness compared to your usual prickly exterior. Only he should be able to see that side of you. How sweet you were under the standoffishness.
Gojo had immediately swiped your things into your bag, ignoring your protests and complaints about him crinkling up your notes. Grabbing your wrist when curly piped up saying that you all could meet up again whenever worked best for the both of you making Gojo's attention turn to him. Blue eyes blazing with a hatred so visceral it had the boy's voice getting stuck in his throat.
You were dragged away under the pretense of Gojo having been hungry. Enduring the whack you gave him upside the head for bending the pages of your book over not being able to wait another hour to eat. Bad mood lingering all throughout the evening and he didn't argue when you told him he couldn't come to your house after you two had eaten together.
Walking from your apartment straight to the park in the seedier part of town. Not even wasting a moment trying to find a reason but stalking right up to a group of boys older than him smoking and throwing a punch at the biggest one.
Gojo showed up for school the next day with his knuckles split and bruised for the first time in months. The whispers that Gojo was back to his usual self following him through the halls as he made his way to class, late for first period.
You glanced at his knuckles as he sat down but didn't say a word, worsening his bad mood. He didn't understand how you could act so indifferent to him. He wanted you to be nosy, to intrude into his business and demand answers. Hated the nonchalance with which you treated him making him feel as though he was the only one who wanted to know everything about you and thought of you constantly.
For the rest of the day he was uncharacteristically quiet. Emanating an aura that screamed that anyone who came near him was going to get punched. A silent, furious shadow following you around throughout the day.
Everyone was allowed to have their off days and you figured that if he wanted to tell you he would, so you gave him his space. Not instigating conversation and using the time to work through your math homework.
When you got to last period, it was almost a relief to be in a class without Gojo. His terrible mood had been near palpable, suffocating in its intensity and you were glad to be away from it.
A bag settled down on the desk next to yours and you glanced up, surprised to see Curly. He nervously played with the straps of his bag as he asked if he could sit next to you. Quickly going on to explain that it was only because he wanted to ask you some questions about the assignment.
"Sure." You responded simply, having not even realized that you two shared this class too before today.
Curly was abysmal at math and you were glad there were no group assignments for this class or you would have risked failing. His English was luckily better. When you were given time to work on the assigned homework after the lecture, Curly told you he wanted to go over the plot points you needed him to add in the summary to support your part on symbolism.
It was the last class of the day so even when the bell rang you both stayed seated to finish going through the little bit you had left. You rubbed at your eye as you watched Curly furiously jotting down notes about the parts you had asked him to include. Glancing up to ask you a question but pausing as he caught sight of your face.
"You've got some ink on your face." He said and you glanced down at the hand you'd just rubbed your eyes with, groaning when you saw it was covered in ink from having been pressed against your freshly written homework. You swiped at your face with your other hand.
"Better?" You asked and the boy shook his head pointing at where the ink still was staining your face blue. You rubbed in the direction you thought he had pointed and raised your brow at him.
"Here let me just-" The boy said, leaning a bit closer and rubbing his thumb over your cheekbone.
"What the fuck is going on here?" You heard a familiar voice growl. Glancing up to see Gojo charging into the room from where he'd been standing in the doorway. Having arrived to pick you up from your last class only to see you and Curly with your heads close together, Curly's hand on you enough to make Gojo's vision go red.
You could only gasp as a hand yanked the curly haired boy out of his chair and away from you. Tossing him to the ground like he weighed nothing and Gojo swung his leg over him, the first hit making blood spray and the audible crunching of bone breaking rung out in the quiet room. But Gojo didn’t stop there, pummeling fist after fist into the boy's face. Each hit raining down so quickly one after the other the boy couldn't even get his hands in front of his face.
"Gojo." You screamed, grabbing onto his hoodie and trying to pull him off the boy but it was like he didn't even notice you.
You couldn't make out what Gojo was saying, your screams for him to stop drowning out his voice. Your screams attracted the kids passing by in the hall and students came rushing in to the math class, not one of them daring to interfere.
"Get a teacher." You screamed at them grabbing onto Gojo's arm to stop him but he pulled free of you making you fall back onto your bottom.
"Stop it, you're gonna kill him." You wept but it was like he was deaf to the world in his rage. Finally you were pushed back as two teachers came charging in, each grabbing one of Gojo's arms and hauling him off the boy.
The hand you were using to push yourself up off the floor slipping, sending you sprawling back as you caught sight of Gojo's face. Features twisted in animalistic rage, the veins on his neck standing out. Blue eyes blazing with fury, teeth barred as he snarled out words just barely legible to you over the sound of your blood rushing in your ears.
"How dare you touch her? She's mine." Gojo was screaming over and over as he thrashed around to be let go. Two other teachers running out in front of him and pushing him back as he broke free and lunged for the boy again.
You scampered backwards in fear, having landed close enough to the curly haired boy to be in Gojo's way. Your movement making his eyes dart to you, the fight draining out of him at the frightened look on your face.
The four teachers took advantage of his state and dragged him out. You could hear Gojo's screams of your name long past when he was out of sight.
For the first time you realized what a mistake it had been to befriend someone known for their violent personality. The curly haired boy was helped up by the principal and another teacher, the students following them leaving you sitting alone in the math class.
You skipped work that day, going straight home. Telling your mom you weren't feeling well and she called the owner of the supermarket for you. Letting you go straight to bed and only coming in to tell you she'd made porridge for you on her way to work.
The next day you didn't go to school. Feigning sick again but actually unwilling to go in and face all the questions that were sure to be asked about the incident. People had seen you there.
You had nothing to tell, you didn't know what had set Gojo off. You remembered what he had been yelling but his words made no sense to you. As wrong as what he had done was, a part of you still felt loyal to your friend and didn't want to say anything against him. Figuring that if you simply didn't show up then you wouldn't have to make a choice between what was right and being loyal.
Gojo had come to school the next day eager to see you and apologize for scaring you. His dad had been called the night before and though the principal had been threatening to suspend him, he'd instead just gotten off with a week of helping the caretaker clean for an hour after school. The principal’s riteous fury doused when his dad brought up how great it would be for the education of the other kids if he got all the school computers replaced.
The principal had let it go, saying boys get into fights and it wasn't worth risking their admission to university to write them up. His father's secretary had flown in and gone to see the boy's family while they were still in the hospital with him. Promising to pay for all of his post-secondary education fees including board and spending money if they didn't press charges and that was simply too good a deal for a parent to pass up.
It was all back to normal like nothing had happened except you weren't there. You didn't come to school the rest of the week and Friday when you didn't show up during first period, Gojo had had enough. He stalked out of the room with the first period teacher asking him to come back or at least take the bathroom hall pass with him if we was leaving but Gojo didn't turn back. Walking right out of school and getting a taxi to your house.
Just the sight of your house was enough to make his heart swell. He knocked on the door, staying quiet as he heard you ask who it was. His knees went weak as the door swung open and revealed you. Standing there in mismatched pajamas with bedhead worse than the first time he'd laid eyes on you and yet he'd never seen such a welcome sight.
Your eyes widened as you caught sight of him. Torn between not wanting to talk to him and ask why he’d done what he did. You stepped out into the cold, closing the door behind you. Wrapping your arms around yourself. Gojo shrugged off the jacket he was wearing, taking a step forward to drape it over you but freezing when you immediately took a step back.
"Take it." He said, holding out his jacket. Blue eyes boring into you waiting for you to finally look up at him and stop staring at the ground. It was maddening to have you before him but still have you avoiding him like this.
"I'm fine." You mumbled.
"If you won't take it then let's talk inside." Gojo said, taking a step forward to reach for your door but you stepped in front of the doorknob.
"My mom's sleeping, you can't come inside." You said and Gojo tried to tell himself it was just because you were worried he would make too much noise and wake her and not because you didn't want him in your house anymore. He knew he had made a mistake, scared you but you had some explaining to do yourself. You had said he was your only friend so why were you letting that little curly haired bastard put his hands on you?
"Why haven't you been coming to school?" Gojo asked and you finally glanced up at him, surprised to hear he had been to school. You were sure he must have been expelled or at least suspended.
It was like he could breathe again now that your eyes were on him. Air filling his lungs for what felt like the first time in days.
"You were at school?" You asked.
"Yeah they put me on cleaning duty this week. Said it wasn't a big deal." He said, sounding so blasé about the whole situation it made your stomach drop. He had beat the curly haired boy to unconsciousness, most likely breaking his nose and taking out some teeth based on the amount of blood but to him it was no big deal?
"How is beating someone to unconsciousness not a big deal?"
"He's fine." Gojo snapped, annoyed that even after not seeing him for days you were talking about that bastard.
"Why are you here?" You asked, realizing you weren't going to get through to him from a morality perspective.
"What do you mean why am I here? You haven't been to school in days, I came to see you." Gojo said, taking a step forward but you stepped away from the door to put more distance between the both of you.
"I don't want to see you right now." You said making Gojo freeze. A cold sweat breaking out on his body as the words you had just spoken rung in his ears. You didn't want to see him. He had been dying to see you and you didn't want him here. You were done with him. He wouldn't allow for it.
"Why do you not want to see me? Look I won't even ask why you were letting that little bastard put his hands on you. It doesn't matter as long as you don't do it again. Let's just go out and get breakfast. You haven't eaten yet, right? We'll bring something back for your mom too." He rambled, voice friendly and bright but eyes manic with desperation that had you balking.
"What are you talking about? Did you hit him for touching me?" You asked, having been raking your brain for days trying to figure out why he had attacked the boy and been unable to think of a reason.
"I don't like others touching you. I'm your only friend. Only I should get to touch you." Gojo said making your heart drop.
"Gojo I'm my own person. You don't get to decide who I'm friends with or who touches me." You said carefully, still hoping this was all a horrid misunderstanding and you were mistaking the implication of his words.
He latched onto your upper arms making you jolt in surprise, pulling you in close until you were nearly chest to chest.
"But you're mine. Just the thought of anyone else touching you makes me so mad I can't think straight. I hate when others talk to you, hate it when they even look at you."
You could only stare up at him in horror. Finally recognizing that glint in his eyes for what it was, mania. You didn't know when he had started thinking of you this way, something he owned and should keep to himself. All you knew was you needed to get away from him.
Not only was he dangerous, with a temper that frequently got the best of him and strength far beyond your imagination, he was also backed by a father who covered up all his misdeeds. Gojo had power and there was no threat of repercussions or consequences to stop him from using it.
"Let go of me." You said but your words had the opposite of their intended effect. He pulled you in to his chest, stooping down to wrap his burly arms around you. Resting his chin on your head and clutching you to him as furiously as a child does their favourite stuffed toy.
"No, can't let you go." He mumbled, turning his face into your hair and breathing in your familiar scent.
"Gojo let go." You demanded, pushing at his chest but with your arms trapped you could barely get enough momentum behind them for him to even feel the pressure, let alone move.
"Stop calling me Gojo. It's Satoru to you." He said, tightening his grip on you making you gasp out in pain.
"You're hurting me, let go." You ordered and Gojo immediately stepped back, horrified at the thought of having hurt you. Gojo had hurt many people in his life, but he never wanted to hurt you. You were the most precious thing to him.
"Leave and don't ever come back. I want nothing to do with you." You said.
"No darling, I'm sorry." Gojo pleaded, trembling hands reaching out to grab hold of you and look you over.
"Leave Gojo." You demanded, turning to go back into your house but his next words made you pause.
"I can't live without you, I need you." He said, voice breaking in a way that had your resolve threatening to crumble. You turned back to him, unable to turn your back on him when the boy you had considered to be your friend sounded close to crying.
"No one's ever made me feel the way you do. I feel like I can't breathe when I'm not around you. I'll die without you, don't push me away." Gojo begged, capturing your hand in his. Blue eyes filling with tears.
You could barely believe this was the boy who nearly killed someone with his bare hands just a couple days ago. But even now as he cried he showed no remorse for what he had done to that boy. He was only upset at the thought of losing you.
He couldn't stop himself as he blurted out everything he felt for you. Needed you to see the truth, how badly he needed you. How he was nothing without you.
"Gojo I've only ever thought of you as a friend, I'm sorry. I think it's best we stay away from each other, I can't return your feelings." You said, watching the tears spill over onto his cheeks at your words.
"You're lying." He said and you glanced up at him, heart clenching at the way the tears poured down his cheeks but he didn't so much as blink or wipe them away.
"You feel the same way. Why else would you spend all your time with me when you don't even talk to anyone else? You invited me to sleep over, took care of me after what my dad did. You do care about me, you're just denying it cause I scared you didn't I?"
"Gojo that's not it, I'm sorry I've never seen you that way. I did all of that because I thought of you as a friend but now I don't think we can even be friends anymore. Just go, okay?" You said turning to go inside leaving him there staring at the spot where you stood as you tore open his heart.
You didn't even want to be friends with him anymore. You couldn't love a monster like him, you couldn't even tolerate to be around him. His dad had warned him that men like them always get left behind. But he wasn't like his dad, he'd get you back. He didn't know how but he would.
Wiping at his eyes Gojo turned to leave, heading right for that part of town he had been told never to return to just a couple nights ago. He found those thugs again, there was a bigger group of them this time. One pointed him out the moment he was in there line of sight.
"Didn't we warn you not to come back here?" One of them asked, standing up from where he was leant against the wall and stepping up to meet Gojo in the middle of the pathway he was walking down.
Gojo didn't even slightly falter at his words. Throwing the first punch once again.
"Oh you're in for it today pretty boy, all our guys are coming here to make sure you don't get to walk away this time."
That day Gojo fought like he really didn't care to continue living. He had lost the one thing that made it all worth it. If Gojo had been rash before then today he was downright reckless. Uncaring about the damage he took, only continuing to move through the swarm of bodies until he physically couldn't anymore.
It took more than one swing of the metal bat to his head to get him down. Barely any of them were left standing by the time he went down and it was lucky that the ones left didn't care to be arrested, leaving him there on the ground and collecting their own men before running off.
He woke up in the hospital. His dad's secretary by his side, glancing up from his laptop when Gojo groaned as he came to consciousness becoming aware of the debilitating headache he had.
You didn’t even come to see him, he called you and sent texts that went unread until they stopped delivering. He refused to stay in hospital longer than the moment he could stand up without the world spinning around him. He had to go back to school, had to see you.
You were relieved not to see Gojo in school when you went back on Monday. Back to being left alone without him there to pester you, letting you get all your homework done during school hours. Your mom wondered why he wasn’t coming over but you told her he was hanging out with his other friends.
It felt strange now to just study throughout lunch but this was for the best of everyone. You got news that the curly haired boy, whose name you finally learned had transferred schools and you wondered if Gojo had done the same. Though you would assume that a lot more people would have been talking about it if the Gojo Satoru left their school.
You only got 3 days of peace before he was back. Whispers and eyes following him as he trudged down the hall, gauze at the back of his head and two black eyes. Knuckles scabbing over from where they’d been split over and over.
His heart leapt when he got to first period and you were sitting there in your usual spot. Hunched over doing your math homework like always. You didn’t even seem to notice the hush that fell over the class when he walked in, going to his rightful seat next to you.
You glanced over as the chair next to you was pulled back, glancing up to see Gojo watching you with a blank expression. You quickly looked back to your homework, heart skipping a beat at the feel of those eyes on you again and you let out a slow shaky exhale to try to regain your composure. It was strange to feel this nervous around someone you used to be so comfortable around.
As much as you wanted to ask if he was okay you thought it better to ignore him. He had feelings for you that you didn't return and after seeing that other side of him, you didn’t want him in your life even as a friend. Best to distance yourself and not get his hopes up.
You could feel his stare boring holes into you all throughout first period, presence seeming to fill up the room and leave no room even for you to draw in a breath. You had never been so glad to hear that bell ring, throwing your stuff haphazardly into your bag not caring if you bent the pages of your textbooks or crumpled your homework.
“Is this how it’s going to be?” Gojo asked before you could make your escape.
“I’m sorry.” You said, meaning it. You’d never meant to cause him pain. He scoffed out a laugh and you made your escape.
From that day on Gojo didn’t talk to you in class. He attended every class you both had together. Sitting silently next to you staring out the window. He got into more fights than ever before, knuckles constantly scabbed over from being split over and over again. When you’d pass him in the halls terrorizing the poor soul who’d had the misfortune of capturing his attention that day those blue eyes would stare at you accusingly. As though telling you this was all your fault.
When you walked into first period the next week and saw him on top of the teacher, throwing punch after punch in the man’s face you nearly fell backwards. It felt like another one of the nightmares you were now very prone to having of him attacking the student and you standing by, doing nothing to intervene. Those blue eyes flicked up to you as you finally managed to find your voice and scream for help.
A smirk twisting up those lips as he pulled back his fist and hit the man even harder than before, blood spraying onto perfect pale skin. He continued hitting the man long after he'd gone limp in his hold. Not taking his eyes off you even as he was dragged away by multiple other teachers.
You ran to the nearest bathroom, throwing up your breakfast and sinking down onto the ground. Entire body shaking as you remembered the look in those eyes. Like a cornered predator holding its head high even as it was torn to shreds.
For that incident he was suspended. It seemed even Gojo Satoru couldn’t get away with putting a teacher in the hospital but considering if it were anyone else they’d be in jail, you guessed his father had used his influence again. You hated the part of you that worried about the price Gojo must have paid for that interference.
For the next 2 weeks Gojo didn’t come to school. Slowly you stopped expecting to see him around every corner you turned and in every class you walked into. The owner of the supermarket stopped asking you to bring him back to attract customers and your mom stopped asking if you two had fought and when he'd come over again.
You went back to doing your schoolwork during your classes, eating your milk bread alone in the library during lunch. Walking to the supermarket, with your brain playing tricks on you and making you see flashes of a tall boy with white hair and impossibly blue eyes in your peripheral.
It was why when you heard a knocking on your door close to midnight on a Saturday, you didn't even suspect it would be Gojo. Being home alone so late at night you had no intention of opening the door. Clutching your phone, ready to call the police as the banging got progressively louder.
"What, now I can't even come around and visit?" You heard a familiar voice call out making you nearly drop your phone. You hurried to the door as he continued his banging, worried he was going to break your door.
You opened the door and there he stood. The dim streetlight illuminating his face as he glanced up from where he'd knelt down on your steps. Hood falling back and revealing his face that was covered in bruises. There was a cut across his eyebrow, edge of his jaw purple, lip split and a bandage over the bridge of his nose.
The smell of alcohol hit you as he got up to his feet, staggering slightly. Split lip pulling into a smile at the sight of you.
"What happened to you?" You asked and he was glad that you had finally dropped the uncaring act. Perhaps it was true what they said about distance making the heart grow fonder. Maybe you had spent all this time apart thinking of him just as his every thought had been consumed by you. No amount of fights or alcohol were helping. He didn't need any of that, he just needed you to feel better.
"Won't you invite me in?" He asked, ignoring your question. Wanting to see the worried look on your face a little longer. You probably thought his dad had done this to him. And well while he had a part to play, not all of it had been his dad. Just the lip really that had split when his dad backhanded him for making him abandon a deal and fly back home to set him straight. Threatening to cancel his cards and looking almost repulsed when that made Gojo start laughing manically.
He had flown back out the next day without making good on his promise. Clearly in no mood to do any actual parenting, either thinking him beyond help or believing the threat to cut him off to be sufficient.
You stepped back from the door giving him the space to enter. Unable to turn him away when he looked like he could barely stand up straight and had god knows how many more injuries. You were glad you let him in when he walked past and you caught sight of the blood that glinted red on the black hoodie he wore.
"Gojo what happened to your side?" You asked and he glanced down to the stained fabric as though just noticing it, lifting his hoodie and revealing a deep gash across his hip making you gasp.
"Jesus Gojo you need to go to the hospital." You said, rushing to follow him in and trying to catch him as he slumped back on the couch in a way that could not be good for his injury.
"Don't need anything else but you." He mumbled, reaching up to grab your hand while you were stood in front of him, legs trapped between his. Not noticing how close you had gotten in your worrying.
"I'm serious, I'm gonna call a taxi and let's take you to the hospital." You said, moving to step back but he tugged you down into his lap. Wrapping his arms around you to hold you down.
"Don't move, need this. Missed you so much." He mumbled, burying his face in the crook of your neck, pressing a kiss to the skin there. Your eyes widening at his actions.
"Gojo let go." You said, pushing at his arms around you but they wouldn't budge.
"Stop calling me that, acting like we're strangers." He whined, pressing kisses up your neck to your jaw. You panicked, shoving at his face. Accidentally hitting his injured nose and he let you go, winded from the pressure on the broken bone.
You scampered backwards out of reach, breathing hard. Glancing over at the door, wishing you had never let him in. He was drunk and completely out of control.
He was up on his feet by the time you glanced back at him and though you had been aware of how tall he was, you had never really noticed how much bigger he was than you before now. So much taller and broader than you. There was no competition when it came to strength. You could only hope you would be able to get through to him.
You stumbled back as he took a step forward, eyes darting down to your feet and back up to you. Pupils dilating as he zeroed in on his prey, each of his steps forward matched with yours trying to maintain the distance between the both of you.
You jolted in surprise as you felt your back hit something solid, taking a quick glance behind you to see you had reached the wall. But darling hadn't anyone ever told you never to take your eyes off the predator? He closed the gap between you the moment you turned your head, on you in a flash. Large hand grabbing hold of your jaw and you didn't even have time to try to pull away before he was crashing his mouth over yours.
Groaning at the taste of you, sweeter than he could have imagined. All the fantasies his brain tormented him with were nothing compared to the real thing. How soft and warm you felt under him, the smell of you that filled his senses. How perfectly your lips fit against his.
For a moment you were too stunned to move but as he licked over your lips to try to coax them into parting it was like you were kicked back into action. You pushed at him with all your might, fingers scrabbling against the solid mass of him for purchase. Soon you were running out of air and without any other options you bit down on his lip.
He pulled back with a laugh, swiping at his lip that you had torn again. Eyes catching on his blood that stained your mouth. Pretty lips slick with spit and his blood colouring them red on the side you had bitten him. Chest heaving with every breath as you watched him warily.
He saw you glance at the door a millisecond before you tried to lunge past him to get to it. But even when he was intoxicated you were no match for his reflexes, he pushed you back into the wall with ease.
Caging you there with both forearms leaned on either side of your head. He traced his thumb gently over your bottom lip, swiping his blood across it. Desperate for another taste.
You turned your head angrily and he tutted, tilting your face back towards him with a hand guiding your jaw. Careful not to apply too much pressure. Last thing he wanted was to hurt you. You looked so pretty with his blood on you but he had no intention of ever seeing your own, certainly not ever drawn by his hand.
"Don't touch me." You snarled.
"Don't be angry darling. I just missed you so much I couldn't help myself. I've wanted to do this for so long, longer than even I realized." Gojo murmured, eyes still tracked on your lips. Just wanting another taste but it had made you so angry the first time so he tried to hold himself back. You had no idea how much he had always been holding back for your sake.
"You disgust me." You spat making him freeze.
He didn't understand why you said all those hurtful things. It had ruined him to hear you say you never wanted to see him again but then tonight you'd let him in again. Been so worried over just a couple bruises and a cut that you had wanted to take him to the hospital in the dead of the night.
You had to be lying now too. It was such a terrible habit of yours. Lying about all these hurtful things, not knowing what it did to him.
"Don't say stuff like that." He admonished gently.
"You do, I wish I'd never met you." You said and he clenched his jaw. Trying so hard to hold back the rage he felt at being treated this way by the one he'd put above everything else.
"After what you did today, you mean nothing to me." You said and he slapped his hand over your mouth. Taking a long slow deep breath in and out to contain his anger.
"Enough." Gojo said quietly, glancing up to look into your widened eyes watching him, the understanding of the sort of situation you were in starting to settle in.
"What a terrible temper you have, saying all these hurtful things I know you don't mean." He said, taking his hand off your mouth to smooth your hair back from your face.
"Please leave." You asked quietly making him sigh.
"Why would I leave my pretty darling all alone this late at night?" Gojo asked softly, fingers playing with the tendrils of hair that fell across your cheek. Brows furrowing in confusion as a pearly drop slid down your cheek and it took him a moment to realize you were crying.
"No, no baby don't cry." Gojo cooed as he looked at your pretty eyes glassy with tears. He swiped his thumbs gently under your eyes, cupping your face between his hands and pressing the tenderest of kisses to your lips.
"It's been so hard on both of us being away from one another but I'm here now. I won't let them keep us apart anymore." He said, pulling you in close to his chest as you choked on a sob that broke free from your chest.
"Others have tried to get in your head haven't they? Telling you terrible things about me and trying to lure you away. My poor naive darling." He cooed and you steeled yourself to do what you had to in order to get away.
"Satoru." You called softly making him pull back to look at you. Eyes filling up with hope and a smile blooming on his face.
You reached up for him, carefully cupping his jaw within both your trembling hands. Keeping your eyes on his all the while you got up on the tips of your toes. Glancing down to your target and his eyes flickered down to your lips.
He leant down and you took the opportunity of finally having him the closest to eye level as you could to ram your head forward with all the momentum you could muster in that amount of space. Your head connected with his nose and an audible crack was heard that you were sure would ring in your ears for the rest of time.
Gojo stumbled back a step, hands flying to his nose. Not even understanding at first why his fingers were suddenly stained crimson until you shoved at his chest making him fall back on his bottom.
You darted for the door, fingers just grazing the door knob before your ankle was grabbed and tugged sharply, bringing you down. You cried out as you hit the floor, chin hitting the ground so hard it made your teeth rattle.
You were flipped onto your back as Gojo crawled on top of you, drops of the blood dripping from his nose dropping down onto you. You pushed and scratched with all your might, besides yourself with the need to get away but your wrists were caught in each of his hands and pinned down on either side of your head.
You sobbed beneath him, squeezing your eyes shut and turning your head so you wouldn't have to see the horrifying image he made. Blue eyes lit up with the flame of his manic obsession, blood dripping down his nose past his lips and down his chin. Dropping onto your chest and splattering you with red.
"Why would you try to run from me darling? What have I ever done to you to make you act like this?" He asked, voice sounding so hurt as though he had any right to feel betrayed.
"Look at me." Gojo said but you kept your eyes squeezed shut. Hoping this was all a nightmare and you'd wake up soon.
"I said look at me." He said releasing one of your wrists to grab your jaw and force your head straight. Grip tightening until you complied, a fresh wave of tears swelling in your eyes at the sight of him.
"Fuck, look at what you've done to yourself." He muttered, gingerly stroking over your bruised chin making you flinch.
"Please let me go." You begged making his heart clench.
"I am never going to let you go. We belong together. Now come on, up on your feet. If we stay here they'll never stop getting between us. We have to leave." Gojo said, not waiting for you to comply. Rising up to his feet and forcefully pulling you up too by your hands.
"Now listen to me good darling, once we get outside I want you to keep your head down and stay quiet. If you so much as say a word to anyone, I'll kill them." Gojo warned, waiting till you nodded before pulling you in close and tucking you under his arm. Casting one last look at the only place that had ever felt like home to him before he ushered you out.
No one knew where you two disappeared to that night. Gojo's dad spent all the money he could on finding his son and your mother never gave up but not a trace was ever found again of either of you. At the school they said regretfully they had thought you would be a good influence on him and yet you two had been each other's ruin.
Thinking about Yandere Neighbour Gojo who had only started talking to you to use you as a cover when his one-night stands came back for more. Claiming he had entered a relationship with you and using you to chase his many lovers off. He hadn't anticipated how much fun you would be to talk to. How calming your presence would be, how endearing you would come to seem to him. Before he knew it he didn't want anyone else, just you. Whether you wanted him back or not.
Wordcount: 13k+ (Supposed to be like 6k at most but again that freaky-eyed bastard just does not let me write a short fic about him)
Notes: Not canon-compliant. Yandere behaviour, forced confinement and violence. Dub-con and non-con touching and kissing
Your neighbour was at it again, the sound of the bedframe knocking against the wall making it seem like they might just crash into your apartment at any moment. Moans so loud it sounded like someone was getting exorcised instead of merely getting their rocks off.
You pulled your noise cancelling earbuds out of your bedside drawer, plugging them into your ears with a sigh. You could only hope this particular session would be over before you fell asleep so you could take them out to ensure you didn't miss your alarm in the morning. Finally getting to read without the sounds of fornication to disturb you.
You must have fallen asleep while reading, when you woke up in the morning it was twenty minutes past when your alarm had started ringing. Turning the alarm off you forced yourself out of your bed and through your morning routine to get ready for work. Skipping a breakfast with the intention of grabbing something during a quiet moment at the library.
The elevator seemed to have been fixed over the weekend, making you feel slightly better about your day as you waited for it to open at your floor. Hearing a door open down the hallway and refusing to turn back knowing all too well what you would see.
"I'll walk you out. Need to check the mail." You heard a masculine voice say making you sigh inwardly. The elevator doors opened just as the found of footsteps started down the hall and you stood as far against the side as you could, hoping to be able to claim ignorance if caught not holding the door open.
A large pale hand grabbed onto one side of the closing door just as it was about to shut, the porcelain greek god like bare upper body of your neighbour coming into view as the doors opened back up. Gojo Satoru stood tall and proud as his partner from the night before clapped and cheered for him as though he'd done something miraculous. A smirk twisting up those naturally pouty pink lips as he sauntered in.
You crowded yourself further into the wall, not wanting to bear witness to their top 1 percent joy this early in the morning. They could have been mistaken for filming a condom ad with the sexual tension the two were oozing and how good looking they were, the pretty girl giggling as Gojo cornered her against the wall.
The moment the elevator doors opened you went flying past the lovey dovey pair, not wanting to spend even a moment longer in the presence of such nauseating physical perfection. It was criminal to have to bear witness to when you hadn't even had a drop of caffeine yet.
You'd never spoken to your neighbour, to be fair you didn't speak to any of your neighbours except when the lady across had asked if you lived in the building. That too because she had grown suspicious seeing you loitering in the doorway as you tried to find your key. You had the magical ability to go unseen, blending into the background wherever you went and it suited you very well.
You weren't like your glamorous neighbour who had a new paramour every week. Each as ridiculously beautiful as the last. Some you never saw again and others you heard crying and screaming outside his door late into the night. That was how you'd learned his name, between all the curse words and wishes of ill will, they called him Gojo Satoru when threatening him.
It was quite possible you may have never spoken to one another if only you hadn't bumped right into him later that week. You'd been on your way back from a closing shift at work, having picked up some thai curry to treat yourself for getting through a long week. The moment the elevator doors opened you could hear the screaming and crying telling you your neighbour was going through another rather one-sided breakup.
You kept your head down, not even looking up as the expletives got more colourful or the threats more ruinous. You had almost made it to your door when suddenly something large slammed into you making your container of curry pop open and spill all over you.
You stared down in shock as the hot curry sank into your clothes, glancing up slowly to look into blindingly bright blue eyes. You grimaced, about to step past him when a large hand folded around your wrist, holding you in place.
"Darling I'm so sorry, I didn't know you were coming early." Gojo said and you frowned at him, wondering if he was mistaking you for someone else but you really did not look like any of his usual visitors.
"Uh I think-" You started but were cut off as Gojo yanked you forward past your door to his apartment where the girl was watching you both in bewilderment.
"Goodness look what I've done. I'm so sorry, let me get these clothes in the wash and run you a nice bath. Sorry Shelly I forgot to tell you but my darling girlfriend here has finally decided she's done exploring and so we're back together. I can't be seeing anyone else, we're going to be exclusive now." Your neighbour said, opening his door and pulling you into his apartment. Slamming the door shut the moment you both were through.
"My name's Kelly you asshole." The girl outside yelled, a bang sounding against the door as though she had kicked it making you flinch. The sound of angry stomping footsteps down the hall told you she had finally had enough and left.
"Thank you so much for helping me back there." Gojo said and you turned towards him to find his blue eyes already on you. So bright they were a bit unsettling.
"Um no problem." You said, not thinking it was very polite to point out that you had actually not helped out so much as been dragged around like a ragdoll.
"I'm so sorry about your clothes and your food darling, I can wash those for you if you want."
"Sorry, I do need to clarify, you don't know me." You said, hoping he wasn't actually mistaking you for someone he knew. Considering the many visitors you had seen coming in and out of his apartment it wasn't too unfair to wager he might have lost track of all the faces at some point.
"I know." He said with a blindingly bright smile.
"I can give you something to wear while I throw those in the laundry for you. Order you some food while you wait to make up for ruining your clothes and dinner." Gojo offered and you came to the sad realization that you had blended into the background so well that your neighbour of the past eight months had no idea you lived right next door.
"We're neighbours actually, I live in apartment 610. I'll just go change there." You said, awkwardly pointing towards the direction of your apartment.
"Are we really?" Gojo asked and you nodded.
"Wow you must have just moved in." He continued.
"Not quite, but you have a good night." You said, about to leave before he could drill in any further how very unmemorable you were.
"Can I buy you dinner? To make up for making you drop yours?" Gojo asked and you shook your head, already reaching for his door handle.
"Wait, let me at least pay you for the dry cleaning and food then. You really saved me from what probably would have been an hour minimum more of screaming and crying."
He didn't even wait for you to voice your protests before he ran into his room. Emerging after a moment with a $100 bill in his hand. He grabbed your wrist, putting the bill into your hand and walking you backwards out of his apartment through the door you had opened before you got a chance to tell him it was entirely too much.
"Let me know if you need any help getting around the area, I've been living here for 8 months so I know it quite well." Gojo said, beaming down at you.
"Will do." You muttered, merely nodding as he bid you a goodnight and shut the door in your face. Turning to look at the spilled curry and your shoulders slumping as you realized you would have to clean that. Though you had made $100 so it wasn't all bad. Take out the cost of ordering food delivery to make up for the curry you'd dropped and you still had enough to treat yourself a couple more times than planned for this month.
That day you learned that on top of being a bit arguably promiscuous, your neighbour was also a clueless member of the upper class that didn't know how much dry cleaning and thai takeaway cost. What he was doing in your apartment building was beyond you, but you could only hope you wouldn't run into him again.
Unfortunately that was not the last time you walked right into one of Gojo's breakups. The next time was at the elevator. You had been on your way back from some errands, waiting in the lobby for the elevator to take you and your heavy grocery filled bags up to the eleventh floor.
The doors had opened revealing a girl holding your neighbour by the collar of his shirt. On the tips of her toes to get as close to screaming in his face as she could with him being over a foot taller. His blue eyes landed on you over her head and seemed to light up instantly filling you with trepidation.
"Darling you're here. You should have called, why are you carrying all these heavy bags yourself?" Gojo asked, sidestepping the girl and smoothly swooping to take your bags from you as you stared at him in wide-eyed bewilderment.
"Who is that?" The girl asked, lovely delicate little features twisted into a sneer as she looked at you.
"My muse." Gojo answered dreamily, looking at you in such performative adoration that it gave you the chills.
"That's your muse?" The girl asked and you couldn't blame her. You weren't exactly the picture of a muse on your best day but today was errand day so you were really slumming it as you tried to get through your chores to enjoy your evening.
"Yes, this is my darling muse so I am unfortunately quite unavailable for a relationship as I will be devoting all my time to this beauty. I wish you all the best." Gojo said, wrapping his free arm around your waist and tugging you back onto the elevator. Making a big show of leaning down to nuzzle your head and it was all you could do not to grimace.
"You smell very good." He mumbled against your head as the elevator doors shut and you leaped away from him.
"Thank you, I shower." You responded, reaching out to grab your bags back from him as he huffed out a little laugh. Holding the bags out of reach making you glance up at him in annoyance.
Now you may not have been the typical image of a muse, but there was no denying you were cute. Big, pretty eyes narrowed at him. Swimming in your oversized sweater and letting out a huff of annoyance as you failed to retrieve your groceries. You had felt all soft against him too like you'd feel great to cuddle. Not to mention it was kind to let him use you for the second time to escape someone who got overly clingy.
"Have you eaten yet?" Gojo asked, he had initially been planning to eat with the girl who'd just left but then she'd started talking about how she was hoping to score the Givenchy ad and he had decided it was time to call it quits.
"No." You responded, looking confused as to why he would ask.
"Great, let me buy you dinner to show my gratitude for you saving me yet again."
"There's really no need. Both times I've just sort of stood there while you mislead some very pretty girls into believing you're taken, by me."
"You could have walked away but you didn't. I owe you, let me treat you to whatever you want. Or I can choose since you're new to the area." He said making you sigh.
"I've got leftovers, thanks though."
"Great, you can feed me." Gojo said, stalking off down the hall as the elevator doors opened leaving you staring after him in shock.
"It's not really enough for two since I wasn't expecting a guest." You said, hurrying after him.
"No worries, I eat like a bird." He responded, standing expectantly outside your door, still holding your grocery bags.
Gojo Satoru did not in fact eat like a bird, unless the bird in question was the dinosaur that birds were said to be descendants of. He ate most of the stew you had made yesterday and intended to freeze so you could get some more meals out of it. You'd even had to make more rice when he asked for another bowl after finishing his second helping.
You'd learned over your mostly one-sided conversation with him over dinner that he was a photographer. Quite a nit-picky one by the sounds of it since he claimed he only photographed people and things of interest to him. That had earned him a reputation in the industry as having a discerning eye for rising stars which was why a lot of models approached him.
Suddenly all the beautiful people constantly coming and going from his apartment made sense.
"I don't like being used though. I make it crystal clear from the start that I don't mix my personal life with my work but they always end up wanting me to either include them in my next work or wanting a referral. Some want a relationship but I don't really do those either." Gojo said, finding a bag of candy amongst the groceries you had yet to put away and pulling it out of the bag.
"Mind if I open this?" He asked and you shook your head. You had enough manners not to deny guests food in your house.
You watched him eat your candy thinking about what different lives you led. While you were just your average employed person trying to keep up with all the chores and dreaming about having savings, this man from a whole different world lived right next to you. A world in which beauty was so plentiful that it had to be accompanied by something else to make it interesting. Where he had no idea how much dry-cleaning cost and could invite himself over without the slightest fear of rejection.
"You come from a rich family don't you?" You asked unthinkingly, voice coloured with so much disdain and the question so unexpected when you had been mostly quiet that Gojo nearly choked on the candy he had just popped into his mouth. Barking out a loud laugh that startled you back into basic decency.
"Oh sorry, that wasn't very polite of me to ask. You don't have to answer that." You reassured but Gojo waved you off.
"Is it that obvious?" He asked with a grin and you gave a little nod, unable to lie so blatantly.
"My dad owns a popular clothing brand. He wanted me to take over the company and I just wanted to disappoint him, hence photography." Gojo said and you nodded as though that made any sense to you. Being handed down a successful brand but instead too caught up in rebellion to take the opportunity.
"I would have become a painter but I'm terrible at it. Photography comes a little easier to me." He said and you nodded, unsure how to respond to that.
"I can't remember the last time I had a home-cooked meal. You're a great cook." Gojo complimented, leaning back and placing a hand on his somehow still perfectly flat stomach. Sometimes you thought people like him defied the laws of nature. Simply too perfect for things like bloating or acne.
"Thanks." You muttered, trying your best at a smile despite the envious turn your thoughts had taken but it didn't seem like you quite succeeded when Gojo barked out another laugh, startling you.
"You really can't hide your emotions, can you?" He asked, grinning broadly at you. Blue eyes positively sparkling with mirth only making you feel more lackluster in comparison and desperate to get this otherworldly perfect creature out of your apartment.
"I've been told I'm not great at it." You responded.
"By who? A boyfriend?" He asked, the grin falling from his face into a little smile that didn't quite reach his eyes.
"No, my boss. She says I need to keep control of my expressions when I get difficult customers."
"That's strange, I didn't take you for someone who would be working with people."
"I didn't think I would be but I'm the most junior member of the library so I don't get to choose my station. If they want me at the front then I've gotta be there."
"You're a librarian?" He asked as though it was the best news he had ever heard and you could only nod in the face of such enthusiasm.
"So you like to read?"
"I do." You said and he nodded his head along in agreement.
"I used to like to read but don't much have the patience for it anymore. Bring a book for me sometime, anything you like. I want to get back into reading." He said and you nodded though you had no intention of ever giving Gojo a library book even if it wasn't under your account. You had a strong feeling that the library would never see that book again.
You failed to stifle a yawn and Gojo got to his feet, carrying his bowl over to the sink and rinsing it off before setting it inside.
"You seem tired, I'll head out."
You walked him out, dutifully following behind though it was your apartment. Gojo Satoru was just one of those people that could enter a space and make it seem like it belonged to them. He swung open the door but turned in the doorway making you stumble back a step since you had been expecting him to walk out.
"Your apartment is very well-furnished for someone who just moved in." He said and you had to suppress the urge to roll your eyes by pressing your lips together into a thin line, calling upon all your patience to end this impromptu dinner party.
"Next time you gotta let me buy you dinner to thank you for the meal and helping me out of a tight spot twice now."
You only nodded again, willing to assent to anything as long as it got him out of your apartment with all his sparkling splendor. Sure he would probably not recognize you by next week.
"Well nighty night neighbour." He said, sauntering over to his apartment and just pushing the door open. There was apparently no need to lock his door since clearly people like him were even above getting robbed, but that was your last straw. You shut your door and locked it immediately in case he decided to come back for any reason.
That night there were no noises and you slept peacefully. Hoping you would never have to be involved in a breakup that wasn't yours again.
However it seemed the universe was not aligned with that. The incident repeated itself over and over. Suddenly it was like a week couldn't go by without you walking in on one of his breakups. At the mailbox, at the emergency exit, in front of the elevator, then in front of the stairs when you decided to take those to avoid him.
Every time his blue eyes would light up when they laid on you. He'd tell the girl you were his girlfriend that had just decided to give him another chance taking him conveniently off the market. To his credit, though he let them yell and berate him as they wanted, but didn't take it sitting when any of them turned on you. Looming over them with the easy smile dropping from his face as he told them he thought it best they left.
Though that terrifying expression had never been levelled at you, it made you quite determined to never get on his bad side. Afterwards he would either offer to treat you to dinner, or as you soon learned would follow you to your apartment and eat your dinner if you refused. After the third time of watching him wolf down your food like he'd never been fed before, you stopped denying his offers to buy you a meal.
Each time he would talk non-stop and force you to talk too. Letting out those loud barks of laughter that you had come to associate with him even while in the midst of quiet restaurants. When people turned to look at the noise they'd seem to positively melt when they saw where the laugh had come from. Smiling along dopily as though it was incredibly sweet instead of disruptive just because of the way he looked.
Your sour expression would only serve to further amuse him. There was free food though, good food at that so you tolerated it. It was also only fair that you got compensated somehow for being used by him to get rid of the pretty models after him for one thing or another.
After a long week of work and a particularly bad Gojo breakup where the girl had burst into fits of tears and you had been forced to stand by while Gojo tried to console her and make her go away at the same time, you were quite looking forward to the weekend. So when a knock came at your door after you had changed into your pajamas, you were not eager to open it and instead sank lower onto your couch and held your breath so they would hopefully assume no one was home.
"I saw you come in, open up darling." You heard the now familiar voice say and you sighed, praying to any gods listening to move one of you before you rose to answer the door.
There stood Gojo Satoru in a pair of grey sweatpants and a black hoodie, holding two boxes of pizza and two pints of ice cream balanced overtop.
"Are you not even going to let her eat before you break up with her?" You asked, this was cruelty you couldn't simply stand by and allow to happen. If you were promised pizza and ice cream and instead someone broke up with you making you leave single and hungry you'd be devastated.
"Break up with who?" Gojo asked.
"The girl I'm guessing is either in your apartment or about to come over." You clarified.
"No silly, there's no girl. This is for us. I thought we'd watch a movie and eat pizza and ice cream. You're not working tomorrow right?" Gojo said, walking right past you into your apartment leaving you blinking at the empty space where he stood trying to process what was happening.
"Did you call her over to see us here?" You asked following him in and watching as he set the food down on your coffee table, plugging the ice cream into your freezer and getting out plates as though he were the one who lived here.
"Call who over? There's no girl as I told you. I just came over to hang out with my pal. You're not working tomorrow so I thought it would be okay if we stayed up late and watched movies." He said, in theory the words made sense but coming from your gorgeous, air-brushed in real life big-shot of a photographer neighbour they were practically gibberish.
"How do you know I'm not working tomorrow?" You asked, choosing to tackle the statement little by little as your third-grade teacher had taught you when faced with complex problems. She'd been talking about math word problems but you applied that wisdom liberally.
"You told me you work alternating Saturdays and you worked last Saturday which means you're not working this Saturday unless Jeanine hoodwinked you into covering her shift again. You swore last time though that would be the last time you switched with her so I'm choosing to have faith in you."
"So you're just here to eat pizza and watch movies?" You asked.
"And ice cream, don't forget about that." Gojo chimed, walking past you to take a seat on your couch and turning on the TV.
"Mind if I choose the movie? I've been wanting to watch this one. Everyone says it's terrible." Gojo said and you could only mumble out a yes.
"Come sit." He said, patting the spot next to him and you followed his orders. Fully expecting a gorgeous young woman to throw your door open any moment, storming in and calling you a home-wrecking good for nothing curse word. It took you robotically nibbling on 3 slices and only making faint humming noises as Gojo talked incessantly over the movie before it sank in that Gojo Satoru really had come over just to watch a movie with you.
Why he chose to hangout with you on a Friday night was beyond you but you weren't rude enough to ask him to leave and he had brought over pizza and excellent ice cream. Though you did have to slap his hand away more than once when he tried to sneak his spoon into yours to steal your cookie dough pieces.
When you were both done he shivered at the cold ice cream and demanded a blanket which once brought to him he rudely curled into all by himself and then plunked his head down into your lap. You froze looking down at him. He had on occasion put an arm around your shoulder or waist or held your hand as he fake-professed his undying love for you before the women he was breaking up with but he'd never touched you when you were both alone.
It wasn't really inappropriate but there was an odd intimacy to the act of resting your head on someone's lap that had taken you aback. You guessed he was just used to being overly familiar with people in his line of work.
Of course not only was he inconsiderate to hog your blanket and use your thighs as a head rest, but he also had the audacity to fall asleep on you as the sequel of the terrible movie he'd chosen played out on the screen with the remote out of your reach.
You sighed, wondering if you should just push him off but your good manners and fear of his wrath kept you from doing so. Once the movie was over and the credits began to play and you really needed to get to the remote you tried shifting his head but he only turned over to face you. Wrapping an arm around your waist and digging his face into your stomach. Effectively rendering you incapable of moving him or yourself.
You sighed, resolved to never answer the door again regardless of who was knocking as you sat through the third movie in this series that never should have been created.
You were almost asleep yourself, head lolling and each time you'd be on the brink of sleep you'd be woken by the motion of your head falling forwards. On one such occasion you jolted out of sleep just as a terrible sound echoed out of the TV making you jump and waking the member of the bourgeoise asleep on top of you.
He rose with a low groan, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes and stretching out his arms making the muscles flex and revealing a pale strip on his toned, muscled torso making you wish you had pushed him off of you when you had the chance. Blue eyes opening slowly and a slow smile blooming on his lips as they laid on you.
"You're so comfortable." He muttered, positively latching onto you as though you were a stuffed animal.
You pushed at his rock-solid shoulder, trying to get him off of you but he sleepily bargained for five more minutes and rested his head over yours. Near smothering you in his overly large pecs making you grimace.
"Off now." You demanded and he pulled back with a pout, expression turning sheepish as you got unsteadily to your feet and glared at him when your legs felt like they had pins and needles going down them.
"You sleep like the dead." You muttered, smacking your fists into your legs to rid them of the odd feeling.
"I usually have a lot of trouble sleeping. I can't remember the last time I had a nap." He said and you scoffed making him looking at you with an innocent puzzled expression which combined with his sleep rumpled hair and clothes made you feel a bit like a sardonic old hag.
"You really expect me to believe you don't sleep well when you're constantly that fresh-faced and don't even have to seem under-eyes?"
"Good genetics I guess." He responded making your lip curl in hatred. You could sleep ten hours a night and still have bags from the sleep deficit you had accumulated while getting your undergrad. He breathed out a soft laugh, apparently a little less brash and loud when he had just woken up.
"You should go home and go to sleep, it's late." You said.
"Can't I sleepover?" He asked, widening his eyes in a surprisingly effective puppy-dog look for a man that was well over 6 feet and built with pure muscle.
"You live next door, your room is almost just as close as mine is. Why on earth would you sleepover?"
"Then you sleepover." He said, laughing when he caught the grossed out look on your face as you were all too aware of the things that happened on the surfaces of his apartment.
"I change my sheets regularly." He said.
"No one needs to sleepover, we live next door to each other. Movie night is over, back to your apartment with you." You said, motioning him out the way you imagined sheep were herded though you had little idea of how that was done and clearly you were not good at it considering the 6 foot sheep before you was decidedly un-herded.
"But I slept so well with you." He complained.
You merely motioned to the door again and he sighed, getting up to his feet. He was nearly all the way out when he suddenly turned back.
"Wait, what if I promise to buy you breakfast?" He asked.
"I cannot be persuaded with food to let you sleepover." You said, watching his shoulders slump and he turned back to head out. Giving you the puppy eyes until the moment you shut the door on him in the hopes he would be let back in.
Unfortunately that too became a regular occurrence. On Friday or Saturday, depending on whether you were working that Saturday or not, he'd bring over some form of takeout, two pints of ice cream and want to watch some horrible movie. He'd talk over the entire thing while you both ate, try to steal from your pint of ice cream and then eventually fall asleep with at least one limb on you in some way.
The breakups became more infrequent as did the noises until they stopped altogether. Soon he was showing up on other weekdays too with takeout or hurrying after you into the elevator in the morning just to tell you to cook for two in the evening since he'd be joining you.
You didn't understand why someone like him was spending so much time with you. Annoying as he was due to his impossible physical perfection, lack of understanding of how to be economical due to his being born into the upper-class, and the audacity he showed just constantly inviting himself in, he grew on you. He was admittedly fun to be around.
Things would have continued like that for god knows how long had it not been for the book club the library had forced you to lead. It was to attract more patrons to the library and since none of the other librarians wanted to lead a club taking place on Friday evenings, you were forced into it.
The group that turned up for the first one was the most mismatched group of people you had ever seen. An elderly woman who often told stories of her grandkids that lived in another country where her son had moved his family for a job. Two very giggly teenage girls who seemed as though they were laughing at everyone at first but eventually you realized were just giggling to cover up their own nerves. A middle aged man who seemed like he just did not wish to go home to his family. An accountant that was trying to branch out her reading materials from non-fiction finance related books. And lastly a young man that was new to the country and trying to learn the language through books and tv shows.
The club met weekly and though the first couple meetings were very rough with you struggling to lead and steer the conversation, eventually you all settled into a rhythm. The elderly woman related every topic to her son's family somehow, the teenage girls giggled at all delicate topics, the middle aged man rarely spoke but listened avidly and the accountant was highly opinionated on fictional characters and events. The foreign young man tried his best to contribute to the conversation and you all helped him along while he looked for his words.
Soon you even began looking forward to book club. Gojo wasn't a fan of it, it meant you were always busy on Fridays. He looked forward to unwinding with you after a long work week where no one could really inspire him. His thoughts on your bright eyes, transparent expressions and begrudging honest comments even as he worked with the most beautiful people and obscenely expensive items.
To hear you rave about these other people bothered him in a way he hadn't thought possible. He had never been the jealous type. Not eager to get into a relationship, he didn't mind when the people he slept with dated or fucked others. For some reason though with you even the thought of others getting to look into those pretty eyes or hear those sarcastic little quips you made had his stomach turning and skin crawling.
He hated how emotionally invested you seemed to be in each and every one of them. So sad for the old lady who missed her grandkids, sympathetic towards the teen girls struggling to become comfortable in their own skin. Understanding for the man who seemed to have built a life based on societal expectations that he wasn't built for and in awe of the accountant's unexpected passion. Inspired by the foreign young man's courage to uproot his whole life and move to a new place.
So many emotions he hadn't been able to inspire in you yet you made him feel things he hadn't even thought possible. Hadn't known how much he longed for the comfort and stability you represented. The calm of your easy, ordinary life. How much joy could be found in just regular activities like sharing a meal or watching a movie. The fire of jealousy that could threaten to burn through all of his being and spread to the world around him when you turned your gaze elsewhere.
"Have you told them about me?" He asked suddenly, cutting you off mid-sentence as you talked about how excited you were for them all to read the next book.
"Tell them about you? Why would I tell them about my neighbour?" You asked, confused where that question had come from. Not understanding why the bright blue of Gojo's eyes seemed to turn to steel. All warmth and light draining from them until they reminded you of the chilling endless depths of the ocean.
"I'm not just your neighbour, am I?" Gojo asked, plastering a grin back on his face that didn't quite reach his eyes.
"No, loathe as I am to admit it, I guess we are friends." You said, hoping the teasing would diffuse the sudden tension you felt in the room.
"Friends." He repeated as though testing out the word.
"Doesn't quite seem like enough." He mused after a moment.
Your brows furrowed and you used the palms you had resting down next to your folded legs to shuffle away from him slightly. His eyes flickering down to the movement making you pause. Of course you were just being silly, you had to be misinterpreting where this was heading. People like Gojo didn't think of people like you romantically. He could have models and celebrities. He couldn't possibly be into you in that way.
"Okay what would you call me then?" You asked, hoping fervently this was all one of his stupid jokes and he would say something rude and start laughing.
"Mine. I'd call you mine." Gojo responded, blue eyes taking in the frown on your face and realizing how ignorant you were to what was between the both of you. Sweet, innocent you that didn't even realize how special what the both of you had was. Gojo would have to show you.
"I don't know if things are different in the rich people world but for us regular people you can't own anyone and saying someone is yours usually implies you're in a relationship."
You didn't wait for his response, reaching for your glass, about to use getting a refill as an excuse to walk away but he latched onto your outstretched wrist. Your breath getting caught in a gasp as he pulled you into him.
"I know what it means darling. You belong to me, just as I belong to you. There's no one I've ever felt so comfortable with, no one whose felt like home before. I know you feel it too, no one has ever made you feel this way, have they?" He asked, hand coming up to cup your cheek. Stilling as you flinched away from the touch.
"I think you're mistaking friendship for something else Gojo." You started, words tumbling out as you struggled to make sense of the situation.
"You're rich and famous so people around you are probably constantly putting up a facade and you're not used to regular friendship. You're just confused." You said, sounding like you were trying to convince yourself more than him.
His hand trailed to the back of your head, angling your face up and lips crashing down on yours before you could understand what was happening. Your froze, your brain unable to compute how a friendly movie night had gone from discussing your work week to this.
His soft lips moved gently against yours, trying to coax you into kissing him back. Tongue darting out to lick over your unresponsive lips and a groan escaping him as he finally got a taste of the mouth he'd been fantasizing of for so long. The sound knocking you out of your shocked state and you pushed against his chest. The unexpected move forcing him to break apart but he instantly leaned down again making you call his name sharply.
Blue eyes flicked up from your lips to meet your gaze. Straightening up at the confusion and outrage he saw. No one had ever reacted to him like that before. Normally others came onto him and yet here you were seemingly very offended by him kissing you.
"You can't just kiss someone out of nowhere." You muttered, wiping at your mouth with your sleeve.
"I'll give you a warning next time, I'm going to kiss you again." He said, swooping back towards your lips but you cupped your hand over his mouth. Pretty eyes widening in surprise and your shoulders tensed up as though bracing yourself against an attack.
He frowned for a moment before his entire body melted as he realized what was going on, it was lack of experience. Shy, innocent you probably weren't used to physical affection the way he was. You'd never mentioned an ex, this was all new for you. He had to take it slow to avoid scaring you off. He pressed a kiss to the hand over your mouth, laughing breathily as you pulled away instantly.
"You can't kiss me." You warned, taking in a slow deep breath. Your shoulders slumping as you let it out and you swallowed nervously as though about to share some terrible news. A product of nerves he was sure, to someone inexperienced even a confession could be a frightening thing.
"I'm sorry Gojo, I don't really see you that way. I thought we were friends but if I've misled you in some way then I apologize. I don't really sleep around." You said.
"Oh darling is that what you think this is? I don't just want to sleep with you, I love you. I want to be with you always." Gojo said making your stomach fall.
"I don't understand." You mumbled. He had never given you any indication that he had romantic feelings for you. As far as you knew he wasn't capable of romantic feelings. All he did was sleep around and then kick them to the curb if they got clingy.
"Are you saying all of this to get me to sleep with you?" You asked and he shook his head immediately.
"How many times do I have to say it darling? I'm not just looking to sleep with you. Though I won't lie, I do want to but it's not just that. I want to be in a relationship with you." He clarified and try as you might even you couldn't interpret that to be anything but what he had said.
"Oh." You mumbled.
"Oh." He repeated with a laugh, cupping your face in his hands and leaning in as though about to kiss you again but you held your hand up between you again. Pulling back out of his hold making his smile drop a bit.
"Too fast?" He asked and you shook your head unthinkingly before nodding it, trying to find the right words so you wouldn't come across as cruel. You hadn't been lying, Gojo had become a friend to you. One whose feelings you didn't want to hurt.
"Gojo I've never really seen you that way and I'm not looking for a relationship so please don't take this the wrong way but I can't return your feelings. I'm so sorry." You said softly, watching as his smile dropped away entirely. Something unreadable in those eyes when you mustered up the courage to look into them, dropping your gaze again immediately.
"I get it, that's okay. We can be friends if that's all you can give for now. Once you're ready we can try for more." He said and though that hadn't really been what you meant you really didn't have the heart to shoot him down again.
"Sh-should I get out the ice cream now?" You asked, eager to change the topic and pretend that whole conversation had never happened.
"Sure." He answered, lips tipping up into a smile though his eyes still had that indecipherable look to them that filled you with the odd urge to get away.
The rest of the night was filled with an odd tension that had your chest filling with relief when Gojo finally bid you goodnight, as guilty as that made you feel. You worried that things between the two of you would never be the same and prepared yourself for the awkwardness that was sure to follow.
It was as though all he needed was to sleep off that conversation. From the next day everything returned back to normal between the both of you as though the confession and kiss had never happened. Though you sometimes felt like you'd see a flash of something akin to hunger in his eyes when he looked at you but he'd blink and it would be gone making you think you were only imagining things.
You couldn't help the way you got a little self conscious now when he rested his head on your lap or strung his arm over your waist while laying sprawled on your couch during a movie night. Before you hadn't thought much of it but refused to say anything because that would mean bringing up that whole conversation you wanted to leave buried in the past. It was just Gojo being Gojo you tried to convince yourself.
As you would soon learn you shouldn't have allowed him continued access to you after learning of his true feelings. Had you known then you would have been firmer in your rejection, leaving no false hope that would ultimately be your ruin.
The book club and its members became an engrained part of your routine. Adding more people to your isolated little world. Meetings that you looked forward to weekly as you became even more familiar with each of the members and you all opened up to one another. Sharing things about your lives and even sometimes planning to grab a bite after the book club meeting. You'd take a late lunch those days and glad to see the community initiative a success, your boss let you.
When the young man started turning up at the library outside of book club to borrow books, you were all too willing to recommend similar books to his favourites from the meetings. Finding some upon his request that would help him improve his language skills as well. He'd come up to you periodically to ask the pronunciation or meaning of words he didn't know which in the age of the internet others might have considered a hint but not you.
It caught you off guard when he asked you out to coffee, alone without the rest of the book club as he'd clarified. There was something about him that you had always found charming and so you agreed.
He asked you to meet at some fancy little coffee shop just a couple streets down from the library you'd never been to before. Looking so pleased when you showed up that you couldn't help but return his smile. Setting your first date nerves at ease by talking about the club's book of the week and then sounding genuinely interested as he asked you questions about your life, boring as it was.
When you heard your name called you turned around with a smile still on your lips from the lingering laughter at an off-handed comment your date had made at your boss' expense but it fell immediately as your eyes connected with a blue pair alight with fury. Flinching back as he stormed over to you, eyes flickering from you to where your date had rested his hand on top of yours. You pulled yours back like you had been burned. Glancing over at the gorgeous young woman who stood next to him, clearly another model who was busy scrolling on her phone and didn't pay the three of you any mind.
"What are you doing here darling?" Gojo asked and you looked at your date quickly who was looking very confusedly between Gojo and you.
"How do you two know each other?" Your date asked.
"He's my neighbour." You clarified quickly, knowing he had probably misunderstood the term of endearment Gojo liked to throw around with you.
"I think we're much more than that, aren't we darling?" Gojo asked, eyes daring you to contradict him.
"W-we're also friends." You explained.
"Now back to my question, what are you crazy kids doing here?"
"We are on - uh how do you say" Your date started, struggling to find the word and for the first time you made no attempt to help him.
"Date!" He exclaimed suddenly and you felt like your stomach had fallen out as you risked a glance up at Gojo to see the polite smile had fallen and he looked positively livid. Blue eyes blazing with outrage turned to you accusingly, jaw clenched so tightly it looked painful and veins beneath his flawless pale skin standing out prominently.
"How lovely, ready to date now are you?" Gojo asked and you shook your head instantly.
"I hate to be rude but you'll have to excuse us. Our apartment building is on fire so my neighbour here and I have to go." Gojo said, stooping down and snatching your wrist. Pulling you up to your feet and dropping the strap of your bag onto your shoulder. Completely ignoring the confused outbursts of both your date and the model that had accompanied him as he dragged you out of the cafe.
"I'm so sorry, I'll see you on Friday." You called out to your date not wanting to make a scene here. Getting yanked forward again and nearly tripping but managing to straighten and catch yourself.
Gojo herded you past the door, leading you to his sleek back car parked right outside the cafe and pushing you down into it the moment he got the door open.
"Gojo you had no right-" You started but were cut off as he swooped down so you were both face to face.
"Don't you say even a single fucking word right now or I may just go back in there and break every finger on that fucker's hand for touching what's mine."
"What?" You asked taken aback by the sudden aggression.
"I don't think I ever mentioned this but I really fucking hate being lied to and I've got a bit of a temper problem so it's in your best interest to let me drive off or your date is going to be the one suffering my wrath."
You shut your mouth instantly, something about his expression telling you that he wasn't bluffing and you didn't want your poor date to be hurt because of you. He finally slammed the door shut making you jump and rounded to the other side, getting in and reaching for you. You couldn't help the way you flinched back making him let out a slow exhale through his nose as he grabbed your seatbelt and clicked it into the buckle.
"I may have a temper but I'd never hurt you." He said solemnly, turning his gaze forward as he pulled out into the street, narrowly avoiding crashing into a car in that lane but you didn't dare say a word. The car filled with a suffocating tension for the short drive to your building.
The moment he parked you got out, walking ahead and hearing him follow you closely. Incredibly grateful for a young mother who got into the same elevator as the both of you with her two children so you weren't alone. Making up your mind then that you didn't want to discuss any of this with him right now.
His anger and threat had frightened you and you were in no rush to be alone with him while he was like this, it was probably best to let him cool off first. He was way out of left field for what he had done but you didn't think you'd be able to tell him that right now.
When you got off on your floor you walked to your apartment. Subtly finding your key in your bag, you turned to face him.
"Gojo I think you should take some time to cool off, we'll talk about this later." You said, turning back to unlock your door but before you could even put your key into the lock you were being turned back and lifted.
He held you up over his shoulder like you were a sack of potatoes as he passed your door to his own. Completely ignoring your cries for him to put you down as he unlocked his door and slammed it shut with a kick as he walked in. Depositing you down onto an armchair and instantly caging you in by placing a hand on either side.
"Now why don't you start by telling me why you were on a date with that fucker when you told me you weren't ready for a relationship."
"I really don't think I owe you anything after the way you've acted." You said, tugging down your clothing so it was all in place after being tossed about like an object.
"I held back, I didn't even say anything to that bastard for you. I went back to being your friend because you said you weren't ready for more and now I catch you out on a date with some asshole. It's my fault for trying to be so patient and understanding. I should have made it clear that you belong to me from the start to avoid all this confusion."
"I don't belong to anyone. I was trying to turn you down kindly, it's not my fault you misunderstood. No means no regardless of the reasoning someone provides. I don't see you that way and frankly after this I don't even see you as a friend." You stated firmly, breathing a little accelerated from how angry you were at the audacity he had shown. Forcefully taking you from your date and manhandling you, telling you that you belonged to him.
"See darling, now that's where you're mistaken." He said, lips twisting into a cruel smile, lifting his hand to trail his fingers gently along your bottom lip. Catching your jaw in his grasp as you angrily tried to turn your head away from his touch and leaning in until his nose nearly touched yours. Breath wafting over your lips as he greedily inhaled the air you exhaled.
"You are mine. If I ever see another man laying a hand on what is mine I will break every bone in his hand as you watch. It's a good thing you don't see me as a friend anymore, since you're ready to date I should be much more than that."
"You're nothing to me." You snarled, pushing at his touch but he caught your hand in his.
"Is this the hand he touched?" Gojo asked, wrapping his own around your hand as though trying to erase the evidence of anyone else's touch from your skin.
Your hand trembled in his, only now noticing how much freakishly larger his was compared to your own. The threats of breaking hands all too fresh for you to be comfortable with him holding yours.
"Where else has that fucker touched you?" Gojo asked.
"Get off of me before I scream." You threatened, voice wavering slightly even as you tried to keep it steady.
"Darling I think you know it's not uncommon for anyone to hear screams coming from this apartment, and other than you no one's ever been bothered by it so go ahead, scream for me." He said making you gulp.
"HELP." You screamed out, his hand coming up to trail across your lips again as he shushed you.
"See? No one's coming. Most of these apartments are soundproofed except that one wall adjoining our two apartments which they seem to have missed. No one can hear you." He said and for the first time you felt truly afraid of him. Realizing that you were trapped in his apartment with him while he was so much faster and larger than you.
"Tell me darling, did you let him kiss you?" He asked, brushing his thumb back and forth over your bottom lip forcing your lips to part.
"Gojo get off of me, you're taking this too far." You warned.
"I will if you answer my question."
"No." You mumbled honestly and he breathed out a sigh of relief, true to his word backing up and getting up on his feet but still standing over you.
"Good, you can't go letting other guys touch you when you're mine. I'll let what happened today go as a misunderstanding because I hadn't spelled things out for you and you can be so oblivious, but if I ever catch him or any other guy lurking near you again, I will kill them."
You stared up at him with wide eyes, feeling truly afraid of the man you'd considered a friend for the first time in your life. Heart pounding in your chest as your eyes darted over his shoulder to the door that seemed all too far away with his giant figure looming over you.
"Tell me you understand darling." He instructed and you gave a quick nod of your head.
The rage melted away from his face and all tenseness seemed to drain out of his body. He leaned down, pecking your lips quickly. Smiling as he pulled away.
"Should I make us something or should we order in?" He asked.
"I'm not hungry, I should go." You said, pushing up from the armchair but pinned in place when he narrowed those otherworldly blue eyes down at you.
"You're not trying to run away, are you? I really do want to believe you meant what you said about being mine but if you leave like this I'll have no choice but to assume it was just to get away."
"No I-I just have some stuff to do around the house." You said.
"Well surely you can spare some time to eat lunch."
"I already ate." You said, regretting the words the moment they were out of your mouth when you saw his jaw clench and nostrils flare.
"Yeah? How long exactly was this date of yours?" He asked, leaning down and resting his hand on the arm of your chair again.
"I had a sandwich before I went out." You said quickly.
It was the truth, the coffee date was at lunch time so you'd had a quick bite beforehand. Truthfully though it was half a sandwich leftover from your lunch the day before but Gojo didn't need to know that. After all that had happened your appetite was gone anyway.
"Oh you do make good sandwiches." He said with a little laugh of relief and you wondered how you had spent all that time with him and not noticed that he was absolutely insane.
"S-sorry I didn't think we would be meeting today or I would have made you one too." You said, eager to pretend everything was normal if that increased your chances at getting out of here.
"Always so sweet." He muttered, leaning down and pressing another kiss to your lips.
"What a lucky guy I am." He said softly, trailing the back of his hand reverently along your jaw. Noticing the way your breath hitched and allowing himself to believe it was just you being shy.
"Fuck I'm sorry, I know you're new to this and I need to take it slow but you are so fucking tempting. I could just eat you up." He said, hands squeezing at your waist making you let out an unwilling squeal.
"Gojo I really do-"You started but were cutoff by him.
"It's Satoru to you darling, we're dating now. You should call me by my first name." He said and you stared at him blankly a moment before giving a short nod.
"Right, well I should go." You tried again.
"Not until I hear you say my name."
"Satoru I need to go." You said, cutting yourself short when he groaned and dropped his head down onto your shoulder.
"My name sounds so good coming from you. Call me Toru." He demanded, lifting his head to see the affronted look on your face at him going back on his word so easily.
"Come on, just say it once and then I promise you can go."
"Toru." You said hesitantly and he dropped his head down so you couldn't see his face.
"Fuck." He muttered quietly and it was all the warning you got before he was pouncing on you. One hand wrapping around the back of your neck and other on your waist as he pulled you up into him. Lips crashing down onto yours and taking your gasp of surprise as an opportunity to drive his tongue into your mouth. Kissing you fiercely with his hands grabbing and groping at any soft flesh within reach as he pulled you in closer.
Your hands flailed a moment before you got your wits together and started pushing at his broad shoulders, protests muffled by his mouth. He pulled back only giving you enough time to drag in a much needed breath before he was on you again. The new angle allowing him to kiss you much deeper, a deep moan rumbling up from his chest at the taste and feel of you under him. Crowding you up on that armchair until you had nowhere to go by resting his knee down on the seat between your legs.
"Gojo!" You screamed when he pulled back just a fraction again.
Slamming your hands against his chest and he paused, staring down at you as both of you panted. Your lips glistening with your combined saliva from the messy kiss you had just shared.
He didn't think he had ever wanted anything more than he wanted you in that moment. He physically ached for you, painfully hard cock that was throbbing in need pressing up against the zip of his pants. Hands yearning to feel all your soft, pliant flesh beneath his palms and mouth salivating to taste every inch of you.
"You said you would take it slow, you promised to let me leave." You said while still panting for air. For a moment there you had really felt like he was going to devour you.
No one had ever kissed you like that before. His passion was all consuming and frightening. You never wanted to experience something like that again.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." He said, hands flexing against the head of the armchair as he fought to regain control and force himself away from you. It took every ounce of will power he possessed and the mental reminder that you deserved for things to be taken slow with you. To be courted and wooed before he would finally get to have you. A little patience and then he would have you for life because he was never letting you go.
The moment he eased back you flew up to your feet. Grabbing your bag and holding it protectively against your chest as though that would really act as some sort of deterrent if he came onto you again. Your wrist was caught as you moved past him and you glanced back with big frightened eyes making his grasp soften.
"I'll see you tomorrow?" He asked and you forced yourself to nod. Anything to be let out of that apartment in that moment.
"Okay." He said and you gave a little tug at your wrist when he didn't let you go.
"God, I don't want to let you go but I did promise. Go now before I lose the willpower to let you leave this apartment." He said and you pulled your wrist forcefully out of his loose hold, scampering for the door.
Breaking his heart a little when you didn't even look back once as you slammed the door shut behind you but what did those little things matter when you were finally his. No last parting looks were necessary since you were going to be together forever now. It was only a matter of time before he would bring up living together and then he'd never have to let you go back to your apartment.
The moment you got back to your apartment you locked the door. Doing up the chain lock too though despite it you still felt hunted. You had this unshakable feeling that he was going to come after you and you needed to put as much obstacles in his path as you could. Like he would snatch you up even while you were behind the locked door of your apartment. The man you had considered a friend now just a monster out to get you.
The tears came then as you sank down against your door. A lump forming in your throat and eyes burning as you swiped the back of your hand over your mouth. Trying to erase his touch.
You weren't under any delusions that there was some easy way out of this. No one in their right mind would believe someone like Gojo Satoru had forced himself on you, dragged you to his apartment unwillingly and kept you there until you agreed to be his partner. There was no proof to go to the police with.
It wasn't necessarily that you wanted him punished, it was more that you wanted nothing to do with him. Cowardly as it was, all you wanted was to never have to see him again, to be free of him. The monster you had unknowingly invited in.
You rested your head in your hands as you let the tears escape. Biting into your sleeve to muffle your sobs so he wouldn't hear through that dreaded adjoining wall and come to investigate.
When your chest started to feel just the tiniest bit lighter, you wiped your tears and rose to your feet. There was no use in sitting there crying. You'd never be rid of him if you didn't do something. You had to move away. Luckily, you were only renting the apartment so all you would lose was the security deposit for not giving enough notice.
You were so desperate you wouldn't even be picky. First apartment you found within your budget you'd sign the agreement. It shouldn't take longer than a week or two and then you'd never have to see him again. Never have those unnerving blue eyes on you or feel those giant hands that pinned you so easily.
Sleep evaded you and instead you used the time to look into apartments. There was a branch of your library located on the other side of the city, but that felt too obvious. You would have to quit and survive for a bit on your meager savings until you found another job.
You'd call in sick for your next shift and go see those apartments, get a storage room to start slowly moving out your stuff without Gojo noticing. Despite how drastic it was, all of that was simple enough but the idea of having to put up an act in front of Gojo for the meantime was what scared you. If you wanted your plan to work, you would have to keep him from suspecting you.
Those two weeks passed with extreme difficulty. It felt like all your hair would fall out from the stress of it all. Moving your entire life in a matter of weeks was not easy but pretending you were willing to be with Gojo was the hardest part. Forcing yourself not to flinch when he reached for you, to not look away from the obsession you now saw gleaming in the depths of his eyes. To nod and listen and respond at appropriate intervals even when your mind was miles away.
It was a lucky thing that he was suddenly so busy with work. Unable to spend nearly as much time as he would have liked with you. If you were forced to be around him constantly then surely you would have given yourself away.
Gojo had never been happier. It was like he had merely been surviving before you came into his life and showed him what true contentedness and meaning were. Filled his life with purpose and joy. He didn't need to find momentary entertainment in beautiful faces or disappointing his dad anymore. Now that he had you, he would never want for anything else again.
He was reminded every time he saw you head for work though that he wasn't the only one who noticed how lovely and incredible you were. The thought of that bastard speaking to you again filled him with unbridled rage but he knew you loved your job at the library so he couldn't ask you to quit. Getting the man's study permit cancelled was easy enough though when he used his dad's contacts.
Hearing he was active in their circles again had his dad reaching out. This time he allowed the man to talk him into coming to work for him with one little condition that his father was all too willing to oblige if it meant the return of his heir. Everything Gojo did was for you and to be with you, you'd come to realize it soon enough.
Working for his dad and learning the ropes of taking over the business was busy work and it left him little time to spend with you. He used any chance he got to be with his beloved. Getting to hold you and talk to you, look into those pretty eyes and kiss those sweet lips was pure bliss. Even if resisting the temptation to do more was akin to torture, he'd wait for his darling.
He couldn't even have anticipated how sneaky you would be. How you could lie to his face for weeks. Disappear without a word as though you hadn't promised you were his. Leave him knocking on the door of an empty apartment like a fool.
He'd broken down the door when he tried calling you and your number was unavailable. Heart sinking when the wood gave to his strength and the apartment that had come to feel more like home than any place he'd ever lived in was just reduced to bare walls with no trace of you left.
He'd ignored the stricken looks of the other people who lived on your floor as he raced for the elevator. The world just a blur as he ran like a madman through the streets towards your library. Only to be told by a confused looking librarian that you didn't work there anymore.
The middle-aged woman's eyes widening as he began to laugh in the middle of the silent library. Laughing so hard he doubled over and nearly choked. Wiping tears from manic blue eyes as he straightened with a smile that was anything but amused before driving a fist straight through the front desk.
The woman ran to the back then and the kids recording him nervously lowered their phones. Those videos would be forcefully deleted by men people like his father kept around just for damage control. The library generously reimbursed to hand over the camera feed from that afternoon and the librarian warned to keep her mouth shut unless she wanted to be fired.
Gojo couldn't believe you would betray him like that. All he had ever done was love and adore you. All he had asked for in return for that blind adoration and devotion was for you to be his. He would lay the world at your feet as long as you simply returned home to him every night.
He hadn't even pressured you to love him, knowing you were oblivious and new to all of this so it would take you time to figure out your feelings. It would all be so much sweeter if you arrived at that conclusion yourself and confessed to him of your own volition. But you had taken all that trust and patience and thrown it in his face.
He felt like he couldn't breathe. Like the very air had turned to poison without you. He needed you back. It didn't matter that you had betrayed him, turned your back on him. Life wasn't just meaningless without you, it was unbearable.
He would make you realize you loved him, make you loyal to him and tie you irreversibly to himself as his very being was tied to you. He just needed to find you.
It wasn't hard but every moment without you felt like an agonizing eternity. He didn't eat, didn't sleep until he had figured out where you had gone. It took only a matter of days but in the span of those few days Gojo became unrecognizable. As though the madness within couldn't be contained any longer and had begun to show itself.
For men like him, it wasn't difficult to track someone down. He scoured the city while private investigators he had hired followed the trail left behind by your digital footprint.
He watched in his car, heart swelling with relief and air feeling like it entered his lungs for the first time in days as he watched you unlock the bookstore where you'd gotten a job. The large glass windows allowing him to see all the smiles you carelessly bestowed on all those who came in the shop but had snatched from him. Fingernails tearing into the skin of his palms until they were bloody as he clenched his fists to keep himself grounded and not barge into the store in broad daylight and carry you off.
He waited all day until you flipped that open sign to closed and locked the door. Moving around inside as you put the bookstore back into order for the next day before grabbing your coat and bag. Night had fallen by then and as you moved to the door he saw his chance.
You twisted the key until you heard the mechanism of the lock twist into place. A faint whisper of your name making you turn thinking it was the owner coming to check in on the store. The sight that awaited you however was all your nightmares for the past couple weeks come to life.
Blue eyes ablaze with mania and lips forming your name were all you saw before you felt a prick at the side of your neck and everything went out of focus. Large hands greedily clutching your slumping body and the nauseous feeling of the ground being swiped out from under you the last thing you felt before it all went dark.
The sound of crashing waves was the first thing you became aware of. The smell of the ocean in the air as your eyes opened blearily to a completely unfamiliar room. Your brain jolted itself to full consciousness as the unfamiliarity of your surroundings registered. The next thing you noticed was the cold weight of something around your ankle.
You glanced down and your heart skipped a beat as you saw the shackle gleaming in the light let in by the large windows clasped above your foot. The long chain connected to it rattled as you darted up and tried tugging at the metal even as your head throbbed and vision swam making you see double of everything.
"Are you finally awake darling?” The voice you had hoped you’d never hear again called from the door.
You glanced up to see his silhouette in the shadows just beyond the doorway to the room you were in. Gleaming blue eyes fixed on you through the darkness.
Your heart skipped a beat in your chest and you wanted so badly for this all to be a nightmare but were frozen, unable to so much as pinch yourself to figure out if this horrific sight was a reality. He stepped forward into the light let in by the giant windows, steps steadily decreasing the distance between you both but even as the urge to flee set alight your nerves you remained immobile.
The feeling of his large warm fingers beneath your chin as he tilted your head up finally knocked you out of your trance. You jerked away from him violently, scampering across the large bed but your ankle was caught and you were tugged back towards him. His hand curling around your leg as definitively as the shackle that bound you there just below it.
“Now where do you think you’re going?” He asked.
Other hand grabbing onto the back of your neck and forcing your head back to make you look at him. Caught firmly in his grasp. Those pretty eyes on him as he had longed for them to be and they'd never lay on another again.
Your heart hammered in your chest as you waited for him to fill the terse silence interrupted only by the crashing of the waves outside. His eyes darting around every inch of your face like he wanted to commit it all to memory.
Only he knew how he had survived those days without you, not knowing where you were or even if he would ever see you again. But now he had ensured that would never happen again.
“G-Gojo where are we?” You asked when he refused to speak first, too preoccupied looking his fill of you.
“We’re home darling.” He answered simply, brushing your hair out of your face. Fingers leaving trails of heat across your skin.
“C-can you please get this off me? It hurts.” You said glancing down at the metal cuff.
“I doubt it hurts. I made sure it was a little loose so it wouldn’t press into your skin. Look, I can even get my fingers in.” He said, tucking his fingers into the narrow gap between the unforgiving metal and your soft skin, making it tighten and you let out a hiss as it dug in painfully.
“Oh did that hurt?” He asked, carefully pulling out his fingers and you nodded. Gasping when he suddenly grabbed you by the shoulders and hauled you in close so you were face to face.
“Can you imagine how much it hurt me when I realized what you had done?” He asked, voice raising despite telling himself he was going to keep his cool. You flinched back but his firm hold on you didn’t let you get far.
“Can you imagine how I felt when I woke one morning to see your apartment was empty and you were gone?”
Your heart pounded in your chest as you prayed fervently, despite knowing now it wasn’t, that this would all be a dream. You’d wake up any minute now to your new apartment with the boxes still piled high in the corner waiting to be unpacked. Reach for the water you kept on your bedside drawer before realizing in this apartment the drawer was on the other side of the bed.
“Can you imagine the pain of knowing the only one you’ve ever loved, the one you put above all else lied to you and betrayed you? Pretended to be yours when they’d been scheming to leave you all along?”
The fury in his eyes dimmed slightly as they filled with tears, his grip slackening on your shoulders letting you slump back down on the bed.
"I-I was scared Gojo." You said.
"Scared of what?" He bit out, swiping angrily at the tears in his eyes with the back of his hand making the pale skin redden. For a moment your fear was forgotten and all you could see was your friend in pain but those blue eyes flashed when he saw the tender look in your eyes and the moment was gone before it even fully registered.
"Of you, of this." You admitted, your own eyes stinging with unshed tears as all the fight seemed to drain out of you realizing the hopelessness of your situation. All that planning and pretending and look where you had still ended up. People like you just couldn't go up against people like him.
"Scared of someone who loves you more than anything in the world?" He asked incredulously, catching your wrists in his grasp as you tried to drop your face into your hands.
"This isn't love, it's madness Gojo. Love isn't forceful or violent like this." You sobbed, fighting to pull your wrists out of his hold so you wouldn't have to look at him again. He gathered your wrists in one of his hands, forcing your arms behind your back so you couldn't push him away.
"How can you say that? How can you say I don't love you?" He asked.
"Let go of me." You spat, trying with all your might to get out of his hold but your strength was no match for his.
"I'll show you how much I love you. I'll make you realize you love me too, I know you do." He cupped your face within his hand so you couldn't look away from him. Ignoring your renewed struggling and cries as you were forced to look into those eyes and the madness that glinted within them.
"We have all the time in the world here darling. It's just you and me here on this island. No one to come between our love and nowhere for you to run."

SUMMARY : Naruto’s head is spinning — he likes you, but Sasuke seems to have caught your attention too. Feeling like the underdog has never been this hard. | the request

Naruto knew he wasn’t subtle. Not even close.
When you walked into the room, his whole face lit up like a sunrise and every other thought in his brain disappeared like a puff of smoke. He’d go quiet for maybe two seconds — a miracle in itself — before he started talking way too fast, way too loud, and laughing at jokes that weren’t even funny.
He liked you. A lot. That part was obvious to literally everyone but you.
But lately… something had changed.
It started with the way Sasuke had started standing next to you more often. Nothing dramatic. Just little things. He handed you your scroll before anyone else. Sparred with you a little longer during training. Even gave you a rare, genuine compliment after that mission with the rogue mist ninja. (“That genjutsu counter you used… it was smart. Effective.”)
And Naruto saw it all.
He saw the way you smiled after Sasuke spoke, the way your expression softened like you were letting your guard down. And every time, Naruto felt like someone had punched a hole right through his chest.
“Oi, Naruto,” Kiba said during lunch one day. “You good?”
Naruto’s chopsticks hovered over his bowl of ramen. He didn’t even realize he’d stopped eating.
“Huh? Yeah. I’m fine,” he said quickly, forcing a grin. “Just thinking.”
That was a lie. He hated thinking lately.
Because no matter how many times he tried to tell himself it was fine — that you were just being polite, that Sasuke didn’t like you like that — deep down, he knew better.
Sasuke was cool. Strong. Quiet in that mysterious, brooding way people liked for some reason. Girls had always liked Sasuke. Naruto had seen it since the Academy. And you… you were amazing. Kind and funny and crazy smart and always two steps ahead during missions. You were out of his league — and now you and Sasuke were spending more time together than ever.
Naruto jabbed at his ramen again.
“Hey,” Shikamaru muttered from across the table. “You’re gonna break your bowl if you keep stabbing it.”
Naruto scowled and mumbled, “I’m not stabbing it.”
But he was. Kind of.

The worst moment came during sparring practice.
It was a warm afternoon. Sun overhead. Birds chirping like they didn’t know Naruto’s world was collapsing.
You were up next. Paired with Sasuke.
Of course.
He stood across from you, calm as ever, his eyes already analyzing your stance before you even moved. You smiled — that soft, unreadable smile you gave only when you were focused — and nodded at him once.
Naruto stood at the edge of the training field, arms crossed, trying really hard not to sulk. But he couldn’t stop watching. Couldn’t stop comparing.
Your fight was so smooth. No yelling. No clumsy punches or flashy jutsu. Just two skilled shinobi moving like you’d known each other for years. You even paused once mid-combo to dodge a kunai Sasuke had thrown behind you — and he smirked, clearly impressed.
Naruto felt like throwing up.
By the end of the match, Sasuke extended a hand to help you up from the dirt. And you took it. Smiling. Laughing.
Naruto turned away.
“They’ll never pick me,” he muttered under his breath, fists clenched at his sides. “Sasuke’s so much cooler than me.”
That night, he didn’t sleep. Just lay on the roof of his apartment, staring at the stars, wondering what it would’ve been like if he were someone else — someone quieter, smoother, someone you could actually like.
He didn’t know that everything was about to change.
౨ৎ
You found him two days later, sitting under a tree behind the training grounds, legs sprawled out in front of him and his hands behind his head.
“Oi,” you said gently, “you’ve been quiet lately.”
Naruto startled and sat up fast, like he’d been caught stealing.
“W-what? Me? Nah. I’m fine.”
You raised an eyebrow. “You’ve been avoiding me.”
“What? No way!” He scratched the back of his head, clearly lying. “I’ve just been… training. Y’know. Getting stronger. Gotta beat Sasuke one day, right?”
He grinned, but it didn’t reach his eyes.
You didn’t smile either.
“Speaking of Sasuke,” you said carefully, “he asked me something yesterday.”
Naruto blinked. “He—he what?”
You sat down next to him, and his heart practically launched out of his chest. You were close. Too close. Your shoulder barely touched his.
“He asked if I wanted to get tea with him. You know. Like… a date.”
Naruto’s stomach dropped to the floor.
He opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. His throat was dry. His brain stopped working.
You glanced over at him, watching the way his jaw tightened, the way his eyes darted away.
“I said no.”
Silence.
Naruto turned back slowly. “Wait. You—what?”
You smiled — a real smile this time — and shrugged like it wasn’t that big of a deal. But there was a faint blush on your cheeks now.
“I said no. I told him I wasn’t interested.”
Naruto stared at you like you’d grown a second head.
“But… but it’s Sasuke,” he said, baffled. “He’s, like… cool. And serious. And strong. Why would you—?”
You turned to face him fully now, your expression soft but steady.
“Because I like loud people,” you said, nudging his shoulder with yours. “People who smile like sunshine. People who talk too much and make stupid jokes and never give up.”
Naruto’s mouth opened slightly, eyes wide.
Your voice dropped a little, quieter now. “I like you.”
And for the first time in days, Naruto’s heart didn’t feel heavy.
It felt like it was about to explode.
Naruto blinked.
Once.
Twice.
“…What?” he finally croaked, voice cracking halfway through.
You laughed — not a teasing laugh, not like you were making fun of him, but like you were nervous too. Like maybe this meant as much to you as it did to him.
“I said I like you,” you repeated, still smiling. “As in… you.”
His brain short-circuited.
Naruto Uzumaki, Number One Hyperactive Knucklehead Ninja, Hero of Konoha, literal jinchūriki and future Hokage — had absolutely nothing to say.
You picked him?
Not Sasuke. Not Mr. Cool-and-Silent. Not tall, dark, and broody with a fan club bigger than the village library.
Him?
“You—you know I’m not like… I mean, I’m not cool,” Naruto blurted, gesturing vaguely at himself like that somehow explained everything. “I talk too much, and I eat ramen every day, and people think I’m annoying and—and I mess up a lot—”
You reached over and flicked his forehead lightly.
He stopped rambling instantly, stunned.
“Don’t say stuff like that about yourself,” you said gently. “You’re strong. And brave. And you make people feel safe just by being around.”
Naruto felt something in his chest tighten, then loosen all at once — like a knot that had finally come undone after being pulled too tight for too long.
“…Really?” he asked, voice small. “You really like me?”
You nodded. “I’ve liked you for a while. You’re just… kinda dense.”
“Hey!” he said, but he was grinning now, wide and bright and absolutely glowing.
You bumped your shoulder into his again. “Sasuke’s great. But he doesn’t make me laugh like you do. He doesn’t light up a room when he walks in. He doesn’t make my heart feel like it’s racing just from a stupid smile.”
Naruto stared at you, lips parted slightly, as if he couldn’t believe this was real.
Then:
“Can I… can I hug you?”
Your heart jumped, and you gave a breathless little laugh. “You don’t have to ask, dummy.”
And then he was pulling you into him — all warmth and sunshine and too-tight arms around your waist, his cheek pressed to your shoulder like he was afraid to let go.
“You picked me,” he whispered, as if saying it made it more real.
You wrapped your arms around him and whispered back, “Of course I did.”
౨ৎ
Later that day, Naruto saw Sasuke leaning against a tree at the edge of the field.
Their eyes met briefly. Naruto held his breath, unsure of what was about to happen.
But Sasuke simply looked away, arms crossed, and said, “Good for you.”
That was all.
No anger. No tension. Just… acceptance.
Naruto blinked. “…Wait, are you not mad?”
Sasuke gave him the smallest glance and rolled his eyes. “You think I don’t notice how you look at them?”
Naruto flushed instantly.
Sasuke pushed off the tree and turned to walk away.
“I’ll get tea with Sakura instead,” he muttered.
Naruto blinked again. “…What?”
But Sasuke was already gone.
౨ৎ
The next time you trained together, Naruto was different.
He was still loud. Still smiling. Still shouting “Believe it!” before nearly tripping over his own feet during a taijutsu drill.
But now, when he caught you watching him, he grinned a little softer. Brighter. And when you walked past, he reached for your hand — not all the way, not yet, but enough for your pinkies to brush.
You smiled.
Later, you and Naruto sat together on the Hokage Monument, legs dangling over the edge, the village glowing beneath you.
He turned to you suddenly, eyes wide and worried. “Hey… if I mess this up… you’ll tell me, right?”
You blinked. “Mess what up?”
“This. Us,” he said. “I’ve never… done this before. But I wanna do it right. I wanna be good for you.”
You looked at him — really looked — and saw everything he tried to hide: the fear, the doubt, the way he didn’t quite believe he deserved something good.
So you leaned over and kissed his cheek.
“You already are,” you said.
Naruto blushed so hard he nearly fell off the mountain.
And for the first time in a long, long time… he believed it.

The door clicks shut causing you to smile widely. Finally he’s home. You rush from the bedroom, down the stairs only to find Naruto leaning against the counter, exhausted clear as day.
“Naru?” His eyes flutter open and he smiles, dimmed compared to his normal smile. “Hey.” He yawns. The cup of ramen sat open and uncooked behind him. “You hungry?” Naruto nods, dragging a hand down his face.
“Yeah. Figured you be asleep by now so I’m just waiting for the water to heat up.” You look at the empty kettle, the fire not even started. Pushing the laugh that was trying to push its way out, you reach out, laying a hand on his sleeve.
“Sweetheart, you forgot the water.” Naruto looks down at the kettle, the corner of his mouth turning down.
“Shit.” He whispers, head falling down in defeat. “Why don’t you go lay down? I’ll finish your ramen and bring it to you.” He tucks his head into the crook of your neck, his breath shallowing out.
“Naru?” He hums. “Go to bed.” You whisper, pressing a kiss to the side of his head. “I’ll be right there.” He groans, back popping as he straightens his back. “Okay.” You lean up, placing a gentle kiss to his cheek.
“I'm so glad you are home safely. I love you.” You mumble, lips brushing against his soft cheek. He mumbles his love for you before stumbling to the bedroom. Your eyes dart from the kettle to the stairs. I’ll make him a big breakfast.
Quickly turning off the lights and locking the door, you quietly make your way back to the bedroom. You chuckle at the sight before you, leaning against the doorway. Naruto laid on top of the comforter, one shoe off, the other still on. You giggle, walking to get him undressed for bed.
