we wake up with the sun, fill our bellies with fruit, and pedal away on our bicycles, don’t stop until the blue sea greets us. i shake the sand out of my hair, watch him while he swims, rub rosewater on his sunburn. evening comes and we have grass stains on our knees and kick the futbol with bare feet. i teach him how to do a somersault and he watches me do cartwheels. we fall asleep like worn out children, freckled and content.
