if you told me (guy whos at least moderately invested in the story tboi told) even six months ago that people would be drawing magdalene o moriah as at least a normal looking woman if not extending their utmost sympathies to her story, her tragedy, the ways she failed herself and her son, fell victim to false promises of religious pragmata, i would genuinely fall into madness. it's kind of beautiful what mewgenics as a whole has done to give her a kinder light to bask in -- and it's made me realize, i used to not really like her but now she's probably one of my favorite characters in much of anything. both somebody where i think she got what she earned in sickening ways and someone i just wish nothing ever happened to at all.

all unimaginable ways to percieve her before mewgenics, but i'm very glad it's come to this point. now please aim your nuclear techno missles at abraham for being a bum alchie.

"The references to Isaac don't mean anything" "Edmund Mcmillen doesn't care about lore" "There's no story, it's just gross for the sake of it" Maybe, just maybe, you suck and have no media literacy and have no idea how to read media that doesn't use blood and gore in an artistic enough way for you?

Its very clear that this is story that Edmund *wants* to tell, considering that no one would go through over a decade of game development, with defined characters and plot threads and giving direct answers to story questions with plit threads that span through multiple games while having a history of making games with similar themes for nothing. I've seen many people say this since i got into TBOI 6 years ago, and it sucks

Mind you this is mainly the redditor crowd, but my point still stands. My biggest pet peeve with this community and the Mewgenics community is that some people can't grasp that just because something is low brow, means that it has no point or story it wants to tell. The inclusion of the dialog from Beanies where he directly mentions Isaac and Maggie, and all of the indirect mentions and references, arent for nothing. Some of them may just be references, and Mewgenics is definantly not a direct sequel to TBOI, but there is a story worth telling, and sometimes it feels like the community doesn't want to listen because 'mah edgy newgrounds game'

Like if you want me to go off about how the term 'lore' has ruined how people talk about games. Or don't. I'll make that post at some point anyways

as someone who was practically obsessed with tboi as soon as i found out about the game as a kid, the difference in how tboi fans vs mewgenics fans see magdalene is very interesting. most of the works i see from the mewgenics fandom portray her in an at least neutral light, though she has quite a bit of fans from what i've seen who really expand on her character despite her not actually having one in the game, whereas isaac fans have a very negative view of her, which i think makes sense as she gets no character development in mewgenics. obviously isaac is constantly haunting the game's events and even the ending itself, but we never really learn how she feels about everything, and so i understand the sentiment of still not liking her. at the same time though i understand coming around to her purely because she's a blank slate in mewgenics, so she can really be anything, be it remorseful, indifferent, or otherwise. idk i think it's interesting

As someone whos been a binding of isaac fan for about 5 years, and who started getting into mewgenics about a month after release, Im so glad people are coming around to Magdeline. I always thought it was a little weird that all the blame was placed on her in Isaacs story and that his father was treated like a saint when he LEFT THEM, especially after repentace when we realize that he left AFTER thibgs started to get bad with Maggie and she started to lean into a type of religious psycosis, not before. That detail, to me, reframes his whole character from 'dad who just couldn't stand by mom anymore' to 'guy abandoning his son with someone who clearly needs help which isolated them both further'.

Not to say that Maggie is innocent, hell no, but im so glad were looking at her as a whole person now.
