Today's Hero Issue 1 Page 6
Text summary of Today's Hero. (Page 0 for Issue 1)
Pages 1-4 of issue 1 of Today's Hero.
Just received the character designs from the artist for the main character for Today's Hero. Meet Jake Whitman, he enjoys beer, pornography and healing at a superhuman rate. He's single, ladies!
Paint Yourself a Picture
Hey all,
Just a quick update, I am currently working with Steve Wameling, who is going to (hopefully) be the artist for "Today's Hero". He's doing some character design drawings for Jake Whitman, the main character of the story. So very soon there will be some "preview" art to put up to give everyone an idea of the style of the comic.
In addition to "Today's Hero", I'm also kicking around some ideas to do some short story comics using different artists. These would be much less "involved" than Today's Hero would be, but I would like to provide some content in addition to Today's Hero, as that is going to take some time to get up and running.
If you're an aspiring artist, or know any who would be interested in adding to their portfolio. Give me a shout. E-mail is [email protected]
Cheers,
Paul
WHO WANTS TO BE A SUPERHERO?
Good question…
Set (mostly) in modern day America after the mysterious death of the USA’s most prominent “superhero” General Freedom, "Today's Hero" takes a look at the US Government’s scramble to replace their champion so as to not appear weakened to enemy countries. Unfortunately, having superhuman abilities is seen as much more of a curse than a blessing, and people willing to stick out their neck are very few and far between. In a desperate attempt to find someone fitting to replace General Freedom, the US Government turns to a very unlikely source.
Reality television.
Using the allure of fame and fortune (among other things), the Department of Defense sponsored “Finding Freedom” rounds up five contestants from various walks of life willing to train and compete for a chance to become the next General Freedom.
This series strays far from the standard “Superhero” mold, and focuses on the interactions of these five contestants, both with each other and the world around them, as they prepare for the stress, and very real dangers, associated with being a public protector, and soon find themselves being involved in much more than they ever signed up for.
The story is going to be released as a series of issues leading up to the conclusion. At which point it will be printed as a graphic novel. The individual issues will be released for FREE and available for everyone to see on our site. The first issue will begin production as soon as the funds are raised to pay the artist. The outline sketches and script are already done.
This project is going to come to life on the support of the public, via donations and web advertising. We have some great incentives for those willing to give to our project, and ad space on the web site will be very reasonable. We are receiving no pay and are doing this purely as a labor of love, and because we feel that this is a story worth being told.
If you are interested in donating, or advertising on our web site, please feel free to contact us via e-mail at [email protected]. We will have more information on ways to donate, and the incentives for doing so, in the coming days.
If you are unable or unwilling to contribute anything monetary to the project, we simply ask that you spread the word about "Today's Hero" via Social Media and good old fashioned word of mouth. The more people we can get interested in the project, the better.
Thanks,
Paul LaPorte Writer VA Comics
