the arrangement (rated e)
“It’s a mutually beneficial arrangement, Evans. Simple quid pro quo — you help me, I help you.”
Or: All James wants is to pass his next Muggle Studies exam. All Lily wants is for Bertram Aubrey to notice her. Maybe they can help each other.
safe harbor (rated e)
It was a predictable predicament, Lily in a bikini, a torment James had all too willingly – eagerly – signed himself up for when he’d agreed to invite the girls on the beach holiday. But of course he’d agreed, because James is a good friend.
Or a glutton for punishment.
Or a pervert.
All of the above, probably.
Or: It’s the summer before their 7th year, and James invites the Gryffindors to his family’s beach house for a week. How many tropes can Lily and James wade into before the week is over?
For Jily Week 2025 Day 5: Summer Fling!
one-shots
amateur magician (rated e)
Vernon refused to speak to James at the reception, but described him, within James’s earshot, as ‘some kind of amateur magician.’
Or: It’s Petunia and Vernon’s wedding day, and James finds loads of creative ways to vex the newlyweds — unintentionally, he swears.
it’s a wonderful life indeed (rated e)
“Were you enjoying the movie?” she murmurs, lips slowly trailing kisses along his jaw and neck, hand cupping the growing bulge in his trousers.
“No,” James rasps as Lily’s fingers deftly pop open the button of his slacks.
“Me neither,” Lily agrees, hand slipping beneath the waistband of his pants.
“Your parents are upstairs,” he cautions half-heartedly.
“We’d better be quiet then,” Lily whispers, lips grazing his ear.
Or: James visits Cokeworth for the Christmas holidays.
stages of grief (rated t)
James paces outside the Hogwarts library, feeling uncharacteristically nervous as he braces himself for the most formidable task any 15-year-old boy can undertake: asking a girl out. Or: Over the course of his 5th and 6th years, James works through the stages of grief as he tries to win the affection of Lily Evans, and grows up a bit in the process.
something worth fighting for (rated t)
It has been just over three weeks since Harry was born, and Lily no longer feels human. She feels like a corpse. A reanimated corpse. Of a cow. The reanimated corpse of a cow at the mercy of a tiny tyrant who never sleeps and demands milk at all hours. Or: Lily and James struggle with exhaustion, anxiety, and isolation as they navigate the new terrain of parenthood in the middle of a war, but find that love is always something worth fighting for
tension brewing (rated t)
The front counter. Of all the indignities Severus is forced to endure at his job at Slug & Jiggers, the front counter is by far the worst.
Or: While working his day job in Diagon Alley, Severus Snape has an unwelcome encounter with a loathsome former classmate.
I’ll be Home for Christmas (rated e)
I’ll be home for Christmas.
The words echo warmly in his mind, a stark contrast to the brutal cold of his present reality. He’d said those words with cavalier confidence mere days ago, his hands on Lily’s waist as he kissed her goodbye on the doorstep of the small cottage they’d moved into only a few weeks ago. He can almost picture her now, cocooned in the safety of their new home — her cheeks flushed from the heat of the kitchen, humming muggle Christmas tunes as she stirs a pot of hot chocolate. The image feels like a beacon of hope in the suffocating cold of this mission.
James intends to keep his promise.
Or: When a routine reconnaissance mission goes sideways, James is determined to find a way home in time for Christmas
here the whole time (rated t)
She’s on the phone again. These days, Lily always seems to be on the phone with that whiny little muppet.
Or: No matter what happens between them, Severus is certain of one thing: Lily Evans belongs with him.
