Here there be salt...
I’m in a bad mood so I’m gonna vent. My bad mood doesn’t revolve primarily around this but it is at least something I can talk about.
Mass Effect Andromeda
It was released just over a year ago. So, in celebration, I popped in the disc and started a new game. And I was just struck by this feeling. It 100% deserved better. It deserved better from Bioware. It deserved better from EA. And it deserved a hell of a lot better from the fandom.
I remember being so excited. I scheduled some days off from work. I was at Best Buy the morning of its drop. It was the first time I had been around for a game debut (I came late to the party for the original trilogy). And, you know, I still feel let down by it all. Not so much the game as the fandom. God knows it had it’s issues but IT WAS A GOOD GAME. It IS a good game and I thoroughly enjoy playing it.
But, back then, when I should have been most excited about it - I had to listen to all of the pissing and moaning before the damn thing even came out. Despite my best efforts to stay above it all, I really feel like the wet blankets dampened my own reception of the game.
There are things that could have been better, sure - and there are still a lot of things I wish were different. Questions about the story line that will likely never be answered -that I wish I could get closure on. But none of that is going to keep me from enjoying this game. And, I just wish, that more people could see it’s worth is all. Is it the original trilogy? No. It was never meant to be. But that’s the past I suppose. I’m just in a pouty mood so that’s all, I guess.
Here, here. I love the game. ME3 and Andromeda are the only games I have ever pre-ordered and I was excited too, couldn’t wait to play it, hubby even accepted he would be watching TV on his own until I’d finished my first run through (damn I love that man). Completely agree Andromeda deserved better from EA and Bioware - still salty we’re not getting any single player DLC.
The fandom was partly responsible but what really annoyed me were the early reviews. Many of them were put out by people who were lucky to spend an hour playing because they had an early release copy so they could review it. Add to that people who bagged the game and hadn’t even played it - some of my friends bagged it too and when asked if they’d played it they said no, I was so pissed at them for adding to the hype. (reminded me of the fuss over the romance scene in ME1 by a reporter who had never played it) It all presented an image of a flawed, worthless game.
And that is so wrong. Yes it had it’s flaws and some of those were fixed. But the hype from those supposedly ‘in the know’ drove this game to the bottom of the leader-board. And that is such a shame because it is a GOOD game.
It was never meant to be like the original trilogy as you say but so many expected it to be. I wasn’t one of them and I was so happy to meet the Ryders and watch them grow into heroes. I’m heading into 700 hrs in the game (have at least a 1000 in all three of the original) and still loving it. We can only hope the positive responses eventually outweigh the negative and EA and Bioware take another look at it - not holding my breath though.
On another note - I hope your bad mood doesn’t hang around too long. *hugs*
I couldn’t agree more. I love the game. I love Ryder. I love how beautiful the game is. I loved the romances. I want DLC.
I’m so sad that the early reviews encouraged a belief that the game was terrible when it was beautiful, had strong characters, and a good story.
Wise Trees
Leading landscape photographers Diane Cook and Len Jenshel present Wise Trees—a stunning photography book containing more than 50 historical trees with remarkable stories from around the world.
Supported by grants from the Expedition Council of the National Geographic Society, Cook and Jenshel spent two years traveling to fifty-nine sites across five continents to photograph some of the world’s most historic and inspirational trees. Trees, they tell us, can live without us, but we cannot live without them. Not only do trees provide us with the oxygen we breathe, food gathered from their branches, and wood for both fuel and shelter, but they have been essential to the spiritual and cultural life of civilizations around the world.
Why was Shrek’s soundtrack so incredible like who sat down and decided that a movie about an ogre would have a beautiful Rufus Wainwright ballad followed by a Smash Mouth/Eddie Murphy cover of I’m A Believer and how can I thank them
i’ve seen this so many times and it just fucking gets funnier every single time it comes back. this is humor at its fuckign finest nothing else can ever top this

imagine we make contact with an alien species that’s like, vastly technologically superior, they could fucking kill us in a single shot if they really wanted to
and this species has never eaten salad before. and we show them salad and they eat it and they’re like holy living fuck this is tasty. and suddenly they’re offering us huge houses with all kind of advanced technological shit and incredible medical care and all the amenities and everything, with the only condition that we keep making salad for them.
and like, salad isn’t even hard to make. grab some plants, dump em in a bowl. it doesn’t have to be fancy salad, they’ll fall all over themselves for the most mediocre salad in the world. we can make so much salad that we’re practically drowning in it, even if we eat some of the salad ourselves. and in exchange we’re protected from danger, we have great living conditions, it’s basically paradise compared to life on earth
imagine
now realize that this is what bees have done to us

After seeing this post about Mewtwo, I became strangely excited about the idea of Mewtwo doing typical cat things.
