the comment relaxed her ever so slightly, “my brother tries the same stuff with me. maybe loosen her leash a little though?” she suggested.

“right, sorry.” val told her genuinely. “it’s just hard not to get caught up in it in a town like this.” she admitted. “but i trust you over gossip, madeline.”

“i have a what?” madeline asked with a raised brow as they walked into the bar after getting through madelines bouncer friend. 

“you just had a little bit of a reputation in high school. that’s all.” val tried to brush it off.

“what was so important about this person they needed to keep track of?”

“you aren’t wrong about that one.” she mumbled, looking down.

“what? no no no.” madeline said as she shook her head. “i have never slept with your brother.” the blonde quickly replied. “lets just drink.” 

“okay.” she exhaled. “it’s not that i’d have a problem with-- it’s just that you have a-- yknow, let’s just drink.” valerie repeated in agreement.

“right ––– sorry about that.” he said as he looked over at the blonde before nodding at her question. “you could say that, someone just messed up a little.” 

valerie frowned as if the entire situation wasn’t terrifying to her. “um, what’d they mess up?” she asked, not entirely sure how truthful of an answer she’d get.

“Alright, well have my drink and drink your drink and we are getting a third. Because we so need to get drunk over that.” 

val laughed. “i like how you think.” she said with a nod and took the drink from ella before immediately taking a large sip.

“oh come on your siblings, especially jasper, can’t refuse some fun.” madeline said to her as they walked. “exactly, i like the way you think.” 

“oh my god.” val made a face, “are you hooking up with my brother?” she asked, then shook her head. “actually don’t answer that, tonight is a night for us to have fun.”

“Pretty sure i don’t believe that,” she said. “Everyone has drama you just need to know where to look for it. If that’s something you want to find.” 

“my dad and my brother died last year. that’s about just as much drama as my family has ever had and can handle.”

           𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐏 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐀𝐋𝐌𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐀𝐃𝐌𝐈𝐑𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄 even so much that he’d contemplated giving her an answer that would give her mind some peace but instead he’s shaking his head. “ If you were meant to know, you would know. ” the man clears his throat, dark orbs lifting to watch over the blonde. “ Now please, do your brother a favor and stay out of it or I will personally deliver your head on a platter to him. ” a smile quickly perks up and out of his features.

as much as her siblings, jasper included, may try to keep her protected and out of things, this was another time val was going to stick her nose in and keep it there. “whatever you two have been doing or planning, i can help.” she insisted. like the long line of fell’s before her, valerie had inherited the busybody trait, meaning she had easily eavesdropped enough to get a vague idea of what might be going on. “i’m just as powerful as my brother, maybe even more, i can help.” she repeated, more stern than before.

“do not make me repeat myself carlile ––– if you fuck this up, your wife pays the price, we do not need this deal going sideways.” angel spoke into the phone to one of his workers. “just get it done and don’t call me back until everything is sorted out.” the man said before hanging up the phone and sliding it into his pocket angel sighed before standing up straight and fixing his jacket, turning around to walk into the building he was out the front of before seeing someone stand there. “can i help you with something?”

regardless of the content she had just heard, val knew she had just stumbled into a situation she didn’t like. as his eyes turned to her, she felt frozen, helpless. after a moment of floundering she gained some control over herself. “nothing, you were just making a racket.” val answered. “pretty heated conversation, huh?” the blonde feigned casual.

“Since classes don’t start for another week or so, I’ve decided to take up a new hobby while we wait.” Mariana reassured the other with a small grin as she put the camera to their face and clicked the button to take a photo. “Say cheese!” @whitmore-starters​ 

val laughed for a moment, then flashed and obligatory smile in the direction of the camera. “you know, if that turns out bad we have to get rid of any evidence a bad photo of me ever existed.” she joked.

      𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐃 𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐒 𝐀 shadow over his features, watching over the others at the party. Hand stirring the drink he held onto firmly. This wasn’t where he wanted to be, it was the last actually but, it’s where he needed to be. Watching closely, monitoring. His gaze quickly shifts as the other approaches, inches before they even touch him he’s calling them out. “ I’m okay here, not really a party type. ” he’d given the same answer to the last ten people that had come up to him. @whitmore-starters​

despite his dismissal, she boldly remains in place next to him.”i know you’ve been talking to my brother all summer, i want to know why.” val demanded, keeping her gaze forward and her arms folded. in the back of her mind, she was near positive jasper had a reason for keeping some of his activities a secret. it didn’t hurt her feelings, but she was tired of not knowing. hence her brazen approach.

valerie was a little . . . awestruck to say the least. “you’re confident about that. you wouldn’t keep saying it if you weren’t.”

“Okay, maybe drama is the wrong word, but it all seems much more. . . eventful than the stuff that goes on in my family.”
