“so, how’d your rounds go? everyone in good shape?” giovanni inquired once they were out of earshot of the others. “i can’t imagine how stressful running this place is so if you’ve got any grievances for today let ‘em out. i might not be your trusty adviser but i can still be of help to you.” // @valiantruby

“Everyone is alright. Could be better, but could be worse.” Valor admitted to him. “But even so, it isn’t terribly stressful anymore. At least given I’ve been doing it for so long now. Even before all of this happened.” He mused as they continued to walk along. He had played the role of a leader for what felt like ages now. It was simply his way of life. It felt unnatural to have no one ask him about things or rely on him. It was purely ingrained to who he was. Whether it be Matrix, or the safe zone, he’d do his best for both. He hoped, wherever the rest of his family was, that they would be proud of what Valor had managed to achieve. // @erasedmasterpiece​

A snicker escaped the commander as he heard a flood of playfully offended complaints at Giovanni’s comment. “Alright then, then off we go.” He spoke, holding his hand in his own as he offered a wave to the scouts before leading his boyfriend off. // @erasedmasterpiece​

giovanni opened his mouth to make a flirty comeback but the sounds of his disgusted teammates drowned out his voice. it almost reminded him of all those times before the apocalypse; valor’s friends always walking in on them when they were having a moment. it happened a lot more than it should have. he swore that every one of them had not been taught on how to knock!

he turned his attention to them for a brief moment to give them his middle finger, but they only made snarky comments. what a bothersome bunch.. “are you free for a bit now at least?” he looked back at valor. “maybe we could have some alone time together for a bit?” // @valiantruby

Valor snorted slightly at his response, before offering a grin to Giovanni. “Actually I am. I had been making my rounds and checking in on everyone, which you all happened to be my last group for the day. So I’m sure I have earned more than a bit of time to relax with you.” // @erasedmasterpiece​

“A boy can dream.” Chris grinned. “My second wife was Mexican.  Even though it ended badly, I’d give anything for tamales.” He paused to think when was the last time he had anything sweet. “I’m not a sweet type of guy but a funnel cake would be perfect with a strawberry lemonade.”

Valor offered a chuckle as he nodded in understanding. “It really would go perfect together.” He agreed with a small thumbs up. “And sadly I am italian, so I couldn’t help with those cravings even if I wanted to. I wonder if our chefs have any knowledge on how to make then though.” Valor pondered out loud. // @chrismaddox​

the word ‘busy’ made giovanni release an audible groan of mild disdain. “what i wouldn’t do for some more free time.” he complained before smiling at valor’s second remark. “as am i. kinda sucks how we’re always needed in different places around the safe zone.” he confided in his boyfriend. “maybe i should have been your adviser.” // @valiantruby​

“It would have certainly made things easier in terms of seeing you, but perhaps it worked out for the best. If I was around you so often, it would be quite a struggle to keep my hands off of you.” He spoke, his lips curving up slightly. Valor said that in a mildly joking tone, as he would like to think he had quite an impressive amount of self control, but Giovanni’s charm was hard to resist. // @erasedmasterpiece​

giovanni gave him a look. as much he wished to address the problem before it became something bigger he respected valor’s decision. “i trust you,” he spoke with a smile to comfort his boyfriend. “sooo,” he segued onto another topic. the scavenger grabbed one of valor’s hands. “how have you been today? i didn’t get to speak to you this morning so i’m curious.”

Valor smiled warmly as he squeezed his hand in return. ‘I had quite an early morning as I do, but I’ve been alright. Just been keeping busy with the usual. Obviously a lot happier with you here.” // @erasedmasterpiece​

the scavenger shook his head. “there was nothing really out of the ordinary,” he reported before he hummed in thought. “well, nothing besides the obvious; we really need to start venturing out farther for supplies. these trips are going to have to start taking longer if we want to maintain our resources.”

“the only problem with that is we’ll be in territory we’ve never been in before,” he confessed with a bit of a frown. “the chances of us coming across another group or being overrun become higher than before, but it’s a chance we need to take. we’ve never had this many people before, and we’re taking in more and more it seems every week. the least we can do while ensuring their safety is that they’ll be fed and taken care of.” // @valiantruby

Valor frowned at his words, looking slightly troubled by the expression written on his featured. He was more than aware of the circumstance, but to go beyond where they already have drifted is something he longed to avoid as much as he could. He did not want to endanger anyone more than they already were.  “I am aware, but we can’t proceed quite yet. It is extremely risky, but we will discuss how we all will go forward at a later date.” He spoke with a nod. // @erasedmasterpiece​

the scavengers had been mildly engrossed in their own little conversation as the group labored themselves with sorting their supplies. then one of them noticed the commander from the corner of their eyes. the odd one out looked at their makeshift group leader with a stupid grin on their face. it was obvious to them who would be pulled to the side for ‘serious’ conversation. his friends gave giovanni a playful shove towards the approaching individual. he let out noises of protest as he told them he could unload and talk to their visitor but they refused to hear any of it.

giovanni gave in to them and met valor halfway, he offered a smile towards his ‘commander’ before he answered. “we’re all alive aren’t we?” behind him were jokes like ‘not on the inside’ tossed between his teammates due to his comment. they were truly a rowdy, eavesdropping bunch but regardless of that he loved his group of misfits. “and i even managed to snag some collectibles..” he added as he stripped his backpack of mystery off his shoulders and reached into it. the scavenger pulled out a beaten polaroid camera. “still works! there isn’t much film left in it though.” // @valiantruby

“That indeed is a good find you have there, perhaps we’ll look and see if we have any film laying around here.” Valor suggested as he tossed a glance at the snickering group near them and let out a little laugh himself. He was glad that even during the brink of an apocalypse, people could still find it in themselves to joke around. It brought him back to better days. Though this was indeed their lives now, so might as well make the best of it.  “Anyhow, anything else to report Gio?” He questioned Giovanni, As much as he’d love just chatting Giovanni up, priorities were priorities sadly. Though that didn’t necessarily stop the sweet gaze on his features as he spoke to him. // @erasedmasterpiece​

“To be truthful I miss Mexican food,” Chris replied. It’s been awhile since Chris had good Mexican food. He rubbed his stomach. “I can’t remeber the last time I was full.” Talking about old time ws how Chris made it through the day. “Wha about you? What do you miss the most?”

“Honestly? Funnel Cakes. Before all of this, I used to go with my friends to the carnival at our city, and then get one. Though I’ve always had a big sweet tooth so really I miss a lot of things.” Valor spoke with a genuine look of distraught. Oh how he longed for a chocolate bar. “Perhaps one day we both can get a piece of both of those things. That would be glorious.” // @chrismaddox​

It was another busy day inside the safe zone, and as per usual, the commander was making his rounds to make sure that everything and everyone was in tip top condition. As he made is trek through the area, he couldn’t help but to check in on the scavengers who had returned from their run by this point. In particular, he wanted to pay a certain someone a visit, whether he’d admit it vocally or not. Though everyone was well aware of his actual intentions in chatting the boy up, he was his lover after all. “Giovanni! I am glad you have returned safely.
