“ The whole world’s insanities, the bleeding hearts and tragedies won’t distract me.”
Country of origin: Asgard
Protective, loyal, skilled
Shielded, bitter, introverted
Elyris was a warrior, a shield-maiden and trusted soldier to Asgard and its king, Odin. She has seen battle, helped slay his enemies and the enemies of the nine realms, but there was something in her which wouldn’t let her still, something which prevented her from killing Men without as much as a blink of her eye. Tradition had it for Valkyries to choose who goes to Valhalla, who goes to Folkvangr and who was stuck in Hel, and it was a task she, at first, didn’t question. It was her job, her sacred duty and watching the other Warriors do the same without as much as a flinch, she wondered if something was wrong with her. In battle, she was fearless, without compare and at times without compassion, but the more she killed the more she wondered was it really fair to choose which mortal lives and which dies, who goes to Valhalla and who falls into Hel.
She stopped enjoying killing.
Until the moment her eyes had met with ones of a dying soldier, seeing fear in his blue eyes and noticing how lost and how young he looked, she was taken aback by the horrors of war and Men’s thirst for bloodshed. She was mortified with the easiness of her fellow Valkyries, how effortlessly they pointed at who lives and who dies, and in that moment she had had enough of it all - Asgard, Valhalla, Svartalfheim, Vanaheim, all the realms. Wherever she looked she saw war and pointless killing and that night she surrendered her helmet and her sword to Odin, willingly exiling herself to Midgard.
Earth was just as she remembered it, still full of chaos and blood, and instead of choosing large, popular cities, Elyris chose Port Royal, taking the identity of Darcy Redford, a sell-sword. No matter how much she ran from war and from fighting, she knew war and fighting was the only thing she was good at, the only thing which would help her survive on her own in the Realm. Port Royal soon became her home and she had found a job with a good and kind noble, someone who gave her a purpose - a purpose which contained of stopping more bloodshed, of doing what she was supposed to be doing and it was protecting the innocent, protecting those who couldn’t fend for themselves from murderers and bullies. Now, she finally had something to truly fight for rather than indulging in petty wars; now she chose that only the bad died, transporting them straight to Hel.
Eir: As sisters, the two are close, even if they have chosen completely different paths in life.
Teresa Pembroke: Convincing the Governor to hire a woman as protection for his daughter wasn’t easy, but her skills spoke for themselves. She isn’t just a bodyguard, but a confidant for the young girl.
