“And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil.”
John 3:19
“I developed this deep insecurity that my… my editors and my agent were looking down on me… that they thought I was being difficult and that I was a failure because I couldn’t do what abled authors could apparently do with no problem…I became increasingly paranoid that I was being set up to fail.”
—Cait Corrain
I think that’s the key. Cait was feeling sorry for herself. They felt set up to fail. A lot of white people get in their heads that BIPOC content creators will get attention just for being BIPOC, and I think that’s probably what happened here. I think that’s why mostly BIPOC authors were targeted. So when Cait says she didn’t target them because she is prejudiced against people of color, I think she might perceive that as true.
I suspect her motivation was that she felt those authors of color were doing something she wasn’t able to do. However, that still makes her actions racial in motivation.
More importantly, the impact matters more than any promises that Cait isn’t racist.
And don’t even get me started on their pity party about being neurodivergent.

This is a friendly reminder that none disabled people often do benefit from the same accommodations disabled people benefit from.
“He came home. Again the crowd gathered, making it impossible for them even to eat. When his relatives heard of this they set out to seize him, for they said, ‘He is out of his mind.’”
Mark 3:20-22
Imagine Jesus’ cousins being like, “We better go get him. This man is going to starve to death because his rabid fans won’t even let him eat. He has lost his mind, wandering all over the country with all these people.”
“But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast on that day.”
Mark 2:20
“At once the Spirit drove him out into the desert, and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan. He was among wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him.”
Mark 1:12-13
i think one of the most important things you learn about making connections with others is that a significant portion of the time people just do not know theyre doing what theyre doing
sometimes someone is acting selfish because they just didnt think you had any interest in what theyre hogging. sometimes you dont get invited to the movies because your friend could have sworn that you said no. sometimes you think someone is mad at you because theyre bad at hiding how little sleep they got. we are all like little worlds that briefly crash into one another from time to time and we just arent physically capable of seeing the whole picture at once in those moments. and learning that really changed everything!

I want more sacred and less secular in my life this Lent, including music. Please recommend your favorite Catholic artists!
I like John Michael Talbot. If you have Spotify, there are a ton of great playlists to find some new artists, too.
“Patriarchy has always seen love as women’s work, degraded and devalued labor. And it has not cared when women failed to learn how to love, for patriarchal men have been the most willing to substitute care for love, submission for respect.”
