a/n: i absolutely love the thought of reader being a girl who sets feminism back like 100 years in the apocalypse. so what if she cant hold a knife to kill a walker? she can wear a lipstick without looking at the mirror tho! >_< im inspired by the character from zombieland 2 where shes just extremely lucky all the time.

When Daryl saw you the first time, he always thought you were some cosmic joke. The group had also thought the same. When they were on the road looking for a new camp after the fallout on the farm, most of the group met up at the same highway they were before. There you were, two luggages in your hand, on of them had you high heels hug on the handle—as you screamed in excitement.
“Oh my god! Oh my god! I can’t believe I found you guys” When they all heard your accent they knew you were some city brat. However, Rick was not the type of person to turn someone genuine down and leave them on the road to die. So he asked you to come join them.
Everyone looked at each other and Rick as if he was insane, but he kept saying that you were harmless. And it’s true, you were—you were a but goofy and unserious but you meant them no harm.
You were however, a bit useless. You had no survival skills—none. Never killed a walker, never had to scavenge for food because you somehow ended up at a place where there were tons of them lying around. Daryl had complained about this to Rick, mentioning how you were dead weight, “What, am I supposed to just let the girl die?”
You were absolutely clueless about what they all thought of you. All you do is smile and laugh like everything’s okay and it pissed Daryl off.
When they found the prison, they would hear you squealing “Oh my god! This would be my first time in jail!” You fisted up your hands excitedly. but when it was time to clear the walkers out you just stood there and belched, “Sorry guys they smell too bad I can’t—maybe we should get some air freshner around here”
“You gonna help or you’re gonna stand here and look stupid?” Daryl growled at you as you looked at him with a disgusted face, you were offended but you did try to help. You threw rocks at the walkers from a far as if that was going to do anything.
When you settled in, you tried hanging out with the girl, “Hey girlies” You waved with your fingers as Carol groaned quietly. You had your luggage in your hands as you opened them, “I have a surprise for you guys!”
When you opened the hefty luggages, their eyes widened. inside was packed with makeup, glue-on nails, bath and body work items. “You guys can take whichever you want! Anytime! I know where to find more!”
They still took some body care items, but not the makeup despite that they can’t stand you and talk shit behind your back. You were trying hard, deep down you knew that they did not like you and you were generally a people pleaser so you wanted them to like you. You hoped that offering your prized possessions would make them like you even just by a little bit.
The group would question how you survived—being you. “Oh you know I’m pretty good with the thread-mill and when they come at me, I just run as fast as i can—with my babies of course” You hugged your luggages as Daryl glared at you. Every time something comes out of your mouth, he would insult you. Even if it makes you upset, you didn’t show and instead you would just smile at him.
You were slowly starting to win the group over. Because they couldn’t deny it, you were funny. Every time you joked it made them laugh and they started seeing you as this ray of sunshine in their dark days but of course, Daryl was having none of it.
Every time you come near him he would avoid you like a plague. So you started making up plans on how to win him over.
When he would come back from a hunt, with cuts and bruises you have him cute printed bandaids. When he worked on his bike, you would give him your eucalyptus lotion for muscle sores and much more. You would leave everything in his cell with a note on how to use each and every item you have him.
One day, when you were about to head out to the side of the prison to do laundry for the first time you heard the girls laughing about something. A smile carved on your fave as you excitedly walk towards them, “I mean she’s practically an airhead—surprised she lasted this long” You heard Maggie’s voice as you stopped in your tracks, “Yeah, tell me about it—I haven’t seen a bimbo in a long time, sure is entertaining as the cable we had” Carol replied. You almost dropped your basket as your heart clenched. Your lips started to quiver as you ran back.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, you looked out the fence and saw all the items that you gave to Daryl—unused but thrown away.
You ran back to your cell as your tears blurred your vision. You looked around the room that you decorated to make it look nice and only for it to be pointless. You sobbed as you packed away all of your things, planning to leave as soon as possible.
When Daryl was passing by, he noticed you frantically packing up your stuff and he could hear you sniffling and wiping your tears. He wanted to leave it alone, he didn’t care but he felt like he had to say something, “Hey, what are you doing?”
When you glanced at him Daryl could see your puffy eyes, the tears running down your face and that was the first time he saw you said.
“Leave me alone, I’m leaving this place” You muttered, getting frustrated of how many things that you needed to pack and when you were done you carried it out.
“Why?”
“Oh don’t act like you don’t know, everyone thinks the same thing! Everyone thinks that I should never be here and I shouldn’t be alive. Well, guess what I did and fuck you and everyone for always belittling me” You wiped away your cheeks as you looked at him angrily. Daryl froze.
“No one said that” He denied as you scoffed. “Well Maggie and Carol said it and you threw away all the stuff I gave you and you thought about it too so stop lying!”
“Fuck, just stay here” Daryl rushed, “I’ll get it back”
Truth is, it finally hit him. At one point everyone had forgotten you were just human. You had feelings and he treated you like you were a piece of gum on his shoe. It only took for you to break down for him to realize that. He didn’t even know if getting the gifts back would make you feel better but he hoped it would.
When he went back to your cell hands full of the gifts he got from you—he was met with emptiness
“So it’s not gonna be easy. It’s gonna be really hard. We’re gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, you and me, every day.”
