Mugman is little more than a phantom to the outside world. Most people only hear of them through Cuphead, then promptly forget they ever existed.

They take pleasure in reading, and their formidable magical prowess lets them navigate anything with effortless poise.

They are the one true, rightful future of the Vampire Cups.

I have a theory that I don't know if it was confirmed or denied but I'll tell it anyway

In the Lost Umbrella animatic you can see that Mugman "dies" and one eye socket is missing, then an entity (I suppose it's the devil and that was the contract that Cuphead made with him, to revive Mugman in exchange of his soul) pours some kind of dark substance into his head.

I don't know if all of them or it's a coincidence but in the images where Mugman is seen as a child he has a white pupil while when he is an adult his pupil is the same color as his eye, blue. My theory is that this change is due to the dark substance and also the part of the contract

Cuphead was originally very worried that Mugsy would not like it, but the carnival at night was still fun.

About kids

Conceiving and bearing children the way mortals do is an impossibility. Though they came into being together, Cuphead and Mugman are two extreme, opposing branches of the Vampire cups.

This has created a deep rift between them on the matter of what Defines Child .

Mugman believes everyone they take in is their child: the small creatures they shelter, the souls they’ve collected, and sometimes, they even see Cuphead as one of their own.

Cuphead, however, holds that a child is exactly what a mortal’s child is—one who lives a normal life, and dies a normal death.

They never delve into this disagreement deeply. Cuphead always ends up letting Mugman lead the way. The two share a bond and an atmosphere that almost no one else can intrude upon.

For my part, I believe Floret counts as the pair’s true child. Floret was infused with the blood of both of them, and survived.

Naturally, Mugman sees Floret as their child with Cuphead. But Cuphead sees Floret only as kin.
