Living sucks. It's terrible and messy and I don’t like it very much. Living has too many deadlines and projects and chores to do. Too much work to be done and then more to do when you’re done with that. Endless hours of doing things and stealing breaks and sneaking around the unspoken rules that are blocking my freedom. The rules that should be reasonable. Why can’t I just have a break already? I can hardly afford one. Living has those stupid people who enjoy wasting your time and jerks who hate who you are. It includes car crashes and fees and stolen happiness by people who think they have power. It's working for money to buy food and pay bills. It's never enough, but try your best. Why must I do anything? I don’t care about it. I don’t care about living.

But life? Life is the trees turning yellow and orange in the fall as you don a jacket and enjoy a walk in the forest while you can. Life is the dead trees, a blanket of snow and piles of blankets as you warm your hands with cocoa and cuddle around a fire. It’s the new buds and bunnies in the fresh grass and the ripple of water on a beach. Life is the silly games you play at night when you’re all tired but still energetic. Life is birds singing around the feeders and squirrels distracting you from work. It’s the quiet mornings and the calm drizzle. It’s my kitten discovering autumn for the first time and dancing around the falling swirl of colors. Life is my lover smiling at what little I can give them, even though they deserve so much more. I can’t give you all of life, but I can at least give you mine.

Living sucks. Life makes it worth it.
