hello! this isn't intended to be mean or anything, but i think it's important to say. coining posts need to be accessible for screenreaders. screenreaders need to be able to read out your term definitions in full, with no interruptions, for it to be accessible to us who use them.
i've noticed a few common things that make coining posts inaccessible to me, as someone who has vision issues and often uses a screenreader, and i just wanted to make a post explaining them so people are aware!
typing quirks in coining posts: when it comes to posts that you know are going to be seen by people outside of your followers, like coining posts, then it is absolutely best to avoid typing quirks. plain english (or whatever language you're typing in), with no text replacements (e.g.: o = 0, s = z), doubling of letters, or weird punctuation is best as those three things especially tend to break screenreaders! if you have to use a typing quirk in your coining post, it's very important to provide a translation too
overusing symbols: using a symbol or two is cool, but overusing them can also cause problems for screenreaders. screenreaders will either skip non-"standard" symbols, or read every single one out, which obviously isn't ideal. i especially recommend avoiding using them in the middle of definitions, or as a replacement for more standard symbols/punctuation, because that's where they cause the most issues for me. beginning and end of the definition is usually fine if you don't use too many, but try to avoid mid-definition symbols!
symbols from other languages: symbols from other languages can break screenreaders. with mine, it confuses it about what language it's supposed to be reading, and tends to change it's language, resulting in the words being pronounced in a different language and me being unable to understand what it's saying. it's definitely worth giving a symbol you want to use a look up to see it's origins before using it, because one's that are actually from another language (e.g.: japanese) can break screenreaders pretty easily
accessibility tools under the cut: don't do this. please don't put typing quirk translations or image descriptions under the cut, or behind any other type of link. this is inaccessible because it puts stuff we require to fully access your post behind a link, and if you delete the post of your blog we can never access what's under that cut again
