Thinking about how Naim is only alive because of luck.

If he hadn’t grabbed the lighter during the bathroom scene, he would’ve died. If he hadn’t been able to reach the lighter, or deter the Entity, he would’ve died. Thats really the only difference between him and Marnie— he found out that lighters hurt the Entity, and Marnie didn’t. That’s it.

Ryan would’ve left Bandee alone the same way Jessica’s stuck at the hospital forever

would it be romantic as a promise ring on his ring finger? perhaps. but wearing it on his middle finger turns it into a literal fuck you to everyone who tried to hurt them

thinking about ryan who paid for their photos at the photo booth, so excited about it before knowing it wasn't really naim....ryan who likes to pay for things just because he's a giver and he loves watching naim's face light up....he likes to slip notes in naim's pockets before he goes to work, likes to get him coffee from the place down the road before he gets out of bed, likes to buy naim flowers just because.

eventually naim says how he doesn't like watching them wilt away on the counter top, so ryan starts to buy him house plants instead, things for them to keep alive and care for (when they have a house some day, ryan brings home plants to add to their yard. gets em on naims birthday, christmas, valentines...they have got a whole little garden going in no time. ryan keeps it perfect)

perhaps i'm being captain obvious with this take but i need to tell you. the entity reflects what a person most desires, and in the photo-booth scene ryan can be hard whispering that entity naim also should remove his shirt for the photos:

"yeah okay, let's just try it, thought you were scared" “are you gonna do it too? it’s just me"

ryan wants to be trusted and wanted as his true self. so much of his earlier behaviour is performing and looking to obtain validation without asking for it directly. he one-ups naim by throwing the rocks, dares him to climb into the mill, mocks his reaction to the snake and keeps testing whether naim will follow him. but beneath all that, he is repeatedly asking whether there's anything naim likes: about bandee and about being with the real ryan that's beneath the armour. removing his shirt is a metaphor for his desire:

ryan wants to peel away the masculine exterior he performs and is asking naim to not be afraid/do the same

St: I get really nervous when I post my artwork, especially when it’s fan art. I can’t stop thinking that the characters don’t look like themselves, and that other artists do a better job of capturing their facial features. But whatever—I just want to share my art with people who love these characters as much as I do. I love yall🥲

I was just thinking about that wound Ryan had on his back. Like, did he get any help from his parents, given the circumstances in which he sustained it? I’ve just been thinking a bit more about how it’s unlikely he received any medical treatment. He probably just rinsed it off in the shower, without any way of treating it properly. And how painful it must have been whilst it was healing, preventing him from moving or sleeping properly. It’s just painful.

And then there’s the context for this image and the one to follow. Naim happened to see just how awful it looked on Ryan’s back. And how upset he was that Ryan hadn’t received any help in that condition. And, of course, my favourite trope: them tending to each other’s wounds...
