Every time I'm sick on a lowkey feverish level I watch this french children's animated movie called "the suicide shop" and it might be one of my favorite films ever and YES it's a musical.

Now that I'm seeing some scenes again I just don't know if it is a children's movie or if it's A Movie with child format.

I have no clue if in Europe we just have a higher tolerance of showing Mature/Graphic content to young kids or if this movie WAS implicitly meant to be 18+

But also. If this was from the US it wouldn't just be 18+ it would've been pulled and censored from like every network and channel Ever.

All I know is that the songs were hitting hard with all the alt queer 12 year olds I knew back in the day. So.

The movie is a kids movie, surprisingly, the director mentioned making it while thinking of his niece ( 8 at the time) and saying it was suitable for older kids ( he said this in an interview due to italy's censorship of the movie, that was a whole thing when it first came out)

On European streaming sites, it's often put as 13+. However, it had a "suitable for all ages" rating when it came out in cinemas

Here's a French advertisement for the movie that says "for kids between 8 and 88"

Well, his stories can be interesting. With a lot of blood, torture, rape and about everything else deliberately gruesome. The message of his novels is that evil will always prosper and good will always suffer.

It's about a circus family who decide to genetically modify their kids during pregnancy with the use of drugs to create new attractions for their public, the entire book is narrated by their youngest daughter, who feels as tho her mutations are too "plain", despite being an albino with dwarfism and a hunchback.

I could also recommend Angela Carter. "The Bloody Chamber", "The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman" or "The Passion of New Eve" are also very enjoyable.

And I just want to say this about the comic's depiction of Vincent... On one side I like this design and artstyle being its own thing that does work, instead of the van Gogh reference being maxed up to the point Vincent looks like him, you know, it works.

But on the other side I do have to complain that while they kept the plot of the book where Vincent ends up gaining weight by the end, it doesn't really... show? Like this artstyle specifically doesn't make it feel by the end that Vincent changed much? I don't know, this felt a bit strange.

But I still think it is a VERY cool design.
