Lost
There is a quiet emptiness inside me that I can't seem to name. It feels like I've lost my direction, like I'm wandering through a life that no longer feels like my own.
I find myself missing people I know I shouldn't miss, questioning someone I desperately want to trust, and wondering if I've become a stranger to myself along the way.
The person I love is consumed by gambling, and too often I feel like I'm not her partner, just the place she returns to when everything else falls apart. The hardest part isn't the money I've lost. Money can be earned again. What frightens me is how much of myself I've lost trying to hold everything together.
Every day I tell myself to keep hoping she'll change. Hope is the only thing I seem to have left, but even hope has become exhausting. While I'm waiting for a better tomorrow, my own life stands still. I can't focus on the goals I once cared about because my mind is always occupied by the weight of this relationship.
Sometimes I catch myself wondering if leaving my ex-wife was the right decision. It's not because I want to go back, I don't. It's because I question whether I traded one kind of pain for another. That thought alone fills me with guilt and confusion.
I also carry the fear that my past will define my future. Being married, even if my heart has long since moved on, makes me wonder if I'll ever find someone who can truly accept me without seeing me as damaged or complicated.
I want to free myself from these chains, but freedom comes with a price I can't yet afford. Financially, emotionally, mentally, I feel trapped.
Right now, I'm not moving forward because I know where I'm going. I'm moving forward simply because I still want to live. Some days, that's the only reason I can find to keep taking the next step.
And lately, even that has felt incredibly hard.
