Piggsy and Cash are two sides of the same tragic coin

This is an elaboration on why Piggsy is an well-written contrast/shadow archetype of Cash.

Basically, what separated Piggsy from Cash are three main factors: personality, resourcefulness and luck.

It's not been fully set in stone what Cash was imrprisoned for, but it's prette safe to say that his time on the run made him an even more hardened criminal. And it's reflected more so in his execution methods: quick and clean, but brutal if need be.

The execution methods in question say a lot about Cash's experience with weaponry, but also his personality; that he's a no-nonsense man who likes to cut to the chase.

Unlike Cash, a seasoned criminal, Piggsy was mentally ill homeless man when he was taken in by Starkweather and Mr Nasty (source). And given how Daniel Lamb's over-the-top executions and sloppy fighting style reveal his inexperience, it wouldn't be far-fetched to claim that Piggsy's executions were quite bombastic as well.

My personal take is that Piggsy was always a bit childlike, even prior to meeting Starkweather. Mr Nasty and Starkweather only further enabled said childishness, as long as they made money from his carnage. And when all that brutal violence and "star treatment" severaly affected Piggsy's mental health, Starkweather locked him away like a liability. It doesn't matter how amazing you were at executions. As soon as you no longer was useful, you're nothing.

While Piggsy had absolutely nothing to fall back on, Cash's resourcefulness experience and a stroke of luck (Robin saving him from the Wardogs) got him thinking on his feet. Which was ultimately the reason why Cash made it out and Piggsy didn't.
