Antonietta Brandeis trained at the Venetian Academy of Fine Arts in a period when women were not yet legally permitted to study the arts in Italy. She specialized in vedute, views of Venice and other Italian cities (notably Rome). In addition to these landscapes, often painted en plein air, she achieved recognition as a painter of religious altarpieces.
