Hello poetic world, I would like to introduce you all to our weekend spotlight featured poet @thecreakywriter
Wuti: Welcome to the Spotlight @thecreakywriter, how are you feeling right now? You excited?
@thecreakywriter: Hi, thank you! This is my first interview, I'm definitely thrilled!
Wuti: As you know the Spotlight is all about getting to know the person behind the poetry a little more so let's dive right into it.
@thecreakywriter: Sure thing, Fire away.
Wuti: My first question is something that I just want to ask out of curiosity, how did you come up with the name @thecreakywriter and what meaning does it have to you if any?
@thecreakywriter: The Creaky Writer is the name I arrived at when I first thought of starting a poetry blog. I wanted the name to show what I do, obviously. And also creaking is the noise something makes when you put it to work, right? I put my mind to work to convey my thoughts. Hence, The Creaky Writer.
Wuti: I like that it's actually pretty clever. I think as a poet / writer a good name is needed to help our readers create some what of a persona of us before reading our content. So you definitely delivered with that name.
@thecreakywriter: Haha thanks. Glad you think so!
Wuti: You touched on some things in your comment that I'm interested I'm knowing. When and how did you know that writing poetry was a thing for you to do?
And also from your answer it sounds like you are a deep thinker, do you feel as if your work is a representation of who you are?
@thecreakywriter: Sure. This may sound typical but I've been an avid reader ever since I was a little kid. Words are mesmerizing, as I'm sure you'd agree with. I used to make up childish little stories and write once in a while. But the idea of seriously taking it up did not come to me until I was asked to write a poem for school. I wrote my first poem when I was about 12 and it stayed.
@thecreakywriter: Right, I have to mention that being a voracious reader has helped me be insightful and think deeper. My work is definitely the rawest part of me. Sometimes, I like to depict a third person's life but even then, I put a piece of me in it.
@thecreakywriter: I can take the liberty to say that some of my recent poems like Nightfall and Chaos In My Head are 100% my soul talking.
Wuti: I agree a 100% and I'm sure from starting at a young age you could definitely see how your poetic voice has matured over time. With that being said do you feel as if poetry has in some way shaped your life /perspective?
@thecreakywriter: That's true. Sometimes, going back to my older poems is like visiting my past self and revisiting what I felt at that time. Pursuing poetry has made me more perceptive. I started to appreciate literature and art more than ever once I started indulging in writing. Reading other poets/writers/artists works is like connecting with them and that is wonderful. I realized that once I started writing everyday events, a conversation with another person and observing little and big things got more aesthetically appealing to me with poetry. Guess you could say it changed me that way.
Wuti: I've read over those poems and I can definitely hear a voice resonating within them. Now with my final question what is your favorite poem that you've written and why? And how does that compare to your most popular poem on Tumblr?
@thecreakywriter: Wow my favorite poem? I think it has to be The Old Dog And The Jock. The idea occurred to me one evening after I listened to a song. I just immediately acquainted myself with the boy and the dog in my head living a life and making a story happen! And I just wrote the poem. I wanted it to be bittersweet and I made it so. I'd never written anything like it
@thecreakywriter: The most popular poem of mine on Tumblr is Chaos In My Head. It was born out of calming my anxiety with the rain and thunder in the night sky, really. They've always had a tranquil effect on me somehow and I thought I'd honor that haha. It's very different from The Old Dog And The Jock which had mellower vibes to it, I feel
Wuti: Nice nice yeah I always like to see a poet's comparison between the things that they write. I say that because it is interesting to see how something that we would write, that we would consider a personal favorite could be so different from what our readers deem as their personal favorites.....
@thecreakywriter: Yes, I agree :)
Wuti: But @thecreakywriter I appreciate the time you spent here with us and I thank you for giving "us" your readers a snippet of who the poet behind the words is.
@thecreakywriter: I gotta thank you at wuti for recognizing my work and also the amazing work you do. Your blog description is accurate and did exactly that to me. It was really nice talking to you
Wuti: Our pleasure until the next time keep on writing
