aponilocklear:
It was no secret that grand, fancy events like this weren’t at all her forte. Though she had experienced plenty of parties and celebrations back home in Neverland in her younger years, none of them were anywhere near close to the Winter Solstice Ball’s caliber in any sense of the word.
Letting out a soft sigh in reluctant resignation at the rather uncomfortable situation she’d, admittedly, put herself in, Aponi made quick to reach out and grab a champagne flute from a passing waiter’s tray; sipping at it idly as she slowly made her way around the crowded ballroom for lack of anything else to do in that moment.
Honestly, she was hoping to spot a familiar face in all the decadence, and not feel as out of place as she did ( she’d already caught a couple eyes glancing rather judgmentally at the littering of tattoos her long, red strapless dress showcased across her arms, and fought to not roll her eyes ), when, as luck would have it, she caught sight of Vaughn just a little ways off from her. Thank God. “You have no idea how happy I am to see you,” she said eagerly, as she made her way over to her old friend’s side. “Please tell me you’re as uncomfortable with all this as I am.”
@vaughndarling
Vaughn had his camera firmly in his hands as he snapped a few shots of the center pieces on the tables. He was always a little in awe of how big they went when it came to decorating. Just about to line up another shot, this time of the seemingly staged chamagne flutes on the table, he was pulled away by the sound of a familiar voice. A warm smile slipped on his lips. “Always good to see you to, Aponi. You’re looking amazing tonight.” The compliment slipped easily from his lips. She was one of the few people in Auradon City from home. Growing up together made him far more relaxed around her. No need to trip over his words or feel awkward about complimenting her. “I mean, we both know I am not good with large gathering.” he chuckled as he let the camera settled in its place against his side. “So, yeah, I’m definitely right there with you. Which is why I’m taking pictures of flowers instead of socilizing.” was added with a bit more humor to the words. “Are you here alone?” he asked curiously. Trying to remember if he’d seen her arrive with anyone. Not that he was judging, he to was alone for the night.

Big fancy events weren’t really something Vaughn was used to. Unlike most of his royal counterparts. He was just a boy from neverland. They didn’t really do formal balls and stuff like that. But that didn’t stop him from putting on a suit and attending. If anything he needed to get a few photos for the AU newspaper. For most of the night, he’d been taking snapshots, writing down names and chatting up a few people. If it didn’t involve his camera he pretty much kept to himself. Which was how he was able to keep an eye on his roommate. Aleena had been a little off since she came home in a mess of emotions a couple weeks ago. They’d just started to get back on normal talking terms. Not that he would have been any less concerned for her if they hadn’t.
He’d noticed that every time he spotted her she was near the bar. Now, drinking was a natural part of these kinds of events. Champagne was handed out by waiters and everyone seemed to have a glass in their hand. Aleena, on the other hand, was taking shots. Like it was some fancy frat party. Every time he saw her down another one he became increasingly concerned. He tried not to get involved at first. She was an adult, it would be in poor taste to try and police her. But he also knew that she was in a weird emotional state. Which made her powers act on their own accord.
It just seemed like a bad combination. Unable to keep himself from intervening he made his way over to her. “Hey,” he breathed out. Gently he pulled her aside so that the had a little more privacy. “Are, you okay? You’ve been hitting the bar a little hard,” he asked quietly. Part of him was terrified that she was going to get mad at him. But he couldn’t in good conscious just let her get trashed in front of so many people. “Do... you wanna.. maybe head out? I can take you home.” @aleenaandersen
“Forests have secrets,” he said gently. “It’s practially what they’re for. To hide things. To separate one world from another.”

aleena: you don't ever have to apologize for sharing with me the inner machinations of that beautiful mind of yours.
aleena: seriously, i love seeing you in the zone. at work. doing your thing. it's so badass.
aleena: makes me only slightly jealous that i'm not particularly gifted in any one thing to the point that i can talk for hours on end about it.
aleena: i mean, aside from my activism. but that isn't a talent so much as it is my belief system, right?
aleena: but the extent to which i know photography is those snapchat filters that i have a HUGE problem with given that they distort the features of your face to uphold thin and eurocentric beauty standards, but that's besides the point-
aleena: what you do is really cool, v.
aleena: i'd be happy to be your first.
[ ... ]
aleena: i mean your first subject for this type of shoot
aleena: not in the sex way
[ ... ]
aleena: not that you're not great!
aleena: especially since we already
aleena: uh
[ ... ]
aleena: aNYWAY
vaughn: okay you are so gifted. I mean you can make twinkling ice crystals with your like... hands. that is way cooler than my nerding out about photography.
[ ... ]
vaughn: how about... we start with the clothed version and maybe keep the nude part on the back burner. Sound good?
“don’t move! i meant mingle. but, like, stay close.”

Aleena: i feel like i short-circuited you for a minute there, darling
Aleena: i was 100% kidding, but....... an artistic and tasteful way? 👀👀 like the type of tastefully nude pics they'd put in the MOMA?
Aleena: i'm listening. i'm intrigued. go on.
Aleena: have you ever taken photos like that before?
Vaughn: maybe... a little.
Vaughn: I totally knew you were joking... mmhmm
Vaughn: I guess yeah. That's what I mean, I'd probably try to achieve the same vibe as some of the artistic nudes. Focus more on the beauty of your form, then... like the parts... if that makes sense.
Vaughn: We could use the fairy lights to creat a bokeh effect. Which with the right backdrop and positioning could probably turn out amazing. You're already beautiful, but the lights and the technique would showcase that beauty in an ethereal way.
Vaughn: clear white... or even something that gives of a bluish hue would work... hmm maybe a blue backdrop. Silk or Velvet...
Vaughn: and I'm rambling in text form... sorry you know how I get with this stuff...
Vaughn: but to answer your question. I have not, I have covered a few in my classes but I've never personally taken them. I've always been curious about the craft. Just never honestly had the courage to attempt it.
aleenaandersen:
Well, she certainly wasn’t expecting that as his response, but despite herself, she grinned, if only because leave it to a bumbling Vaughn to say something so sweet in the most incredibly inopportune time. She steadied herself atop him carefully, taking the time to straddle either side of him as she sat up so as to not fall directly onto his chest again. She shook her head as she tried to get a word in, cutting him off in the midst of his panic, “Vaughn, hey, Vaughn–” Lena gestured towards the fairy lights and said, “They’re just lights, dude. I was going to get a head-start in decorating my room for the holidays, but as you can see, it’s Lights - 1, Lena - 0.” She leaned back to allow room for him to sit up as well, taking the moment to pull a stream of lights from around his shoulders.
“You know, if I hadn’t just knocked you over and basically tied you up in lights, I’d say this would be a cool concept for a shot,” she mused aloud, hoping that if she said the first thing to come to mind that it would help avert from the awkwardness that accompanied their every move. “Though the lights would have to be more like…” Taking some into her hands, she quieted down and focused. Her mother could always do more with her magic than she could, but she had abundant time and experience, neither of which Aleena had been afforded when her powers finally set in so late. However, she had seen her do it plenty before, the way she’d give a swish of her hand and her ice crystals would glisten, showering a dark room with light. Perhaps she could do it, too, if she could just focus.
Taking a deep breath, clearing all else from her mind, she pictured what she wanted to happen, lights from end to end of the strings coming alive and enveloping them with their brightness. A chill she knew all too well ran down the lengths of her arms, down to the tips of her fingers, and with her next breath, each light lit up around them, casting a white glow around the two. A large smile graced her lips, saying more to herself than to him, “Gods, do you see this? It’s the first time I’ve ever done that.” And it was no small feat, not to her. Her powers tended to teem just under the surface, lying in wait until the perfect opportunity to get the better of her, to show her she wasn’t as in control as she pretended to be. But this time, by the power of Zeus or some other entity, she was finally the one in control.
Feeling Aleena shift on top of him didn’t do anything to calm his nerves but he did stop speaking. Forcing his eyes to focus on her as she spoke. His hands moved to settle against the sides of her thighs. Seeing as they didn’t have many other places to rest. “Oh... yeah that makes sense.” he breathed out as he willed himself to not think about their current position. It was the last thing he needed, he instead focused on her words and the lights. “I mean I bet a shoot from this position would be interesting, true up view.” His brow tilted a bit as she continued on with her train of thought. Shifting up on to his elbows Vaughn watched as Lena used her magic.
The lights seemed to shine even more majestically with the help of the girl’s magic. As they shined they only future illuminated the beauty that was currently sitting on him. His eyes were fixed on her smile and the way that she seemed to light up as much as the string in her hands. “It’s beautiful,” slipped from his lips. He definitely wasn’t just talking about the lights but he’d already blurted that out once he figured he should cover quickly. “It so cool, what you can do just with putting your mind to it. Now, this would make an amazing shoot..” slipped from his lips quietly as he offered her a warm smile. “You’re kind of amazing you know that?”

Ally listened intently, taking in everything he had to say with a wide eyes and a gentle nod. It made sense, to go through it bit by bit, and figured out what needed to be changed. The basics were looking okay. She had managed to sort out the front page enough for it to look good enough for any onlookers. Unfortunately it was when you started going into the tabs that things got a special Clip Art kind of messy.
“Do we have a graphic design major at or school?” she muttered softly, “Because we should. I like that you’re getting pictures from clubs. That’s so clever! Using your photography in this. I’m not good at that kind of stuff but I can certainly code a mean header background!”
Vaughn was confident that with the two of them they would be able to figure things out. Ally had already made a huge improvement on the first page. He imagines once they got into the thick of it. The could make the whole thing look awesome. “I think they do,” he looked up from his notes as he answered. “They have a lot of design and art programs so I wouldn’t see why they wouldn’t have a graphic design. Are you thinking about changing majors?” He could help the smile that slid on to his lips when she spoke about his photography. He took a lot of pride in his skills, mostly because he took a lot of time to learn on his own. “I mean, I kind of breath photography, it's bound to show up in almost everything I do.” he joked lightly. “But I can say you are way better at the coding part of it. When I try, nothing ever turns out the way I see it in my head. That is why I am lucky to have your brilliant brain helping me out with all this.”

Julien: there's an article about that stuff?
Julien: and surprisingly i am. never really thought it would be an activity i would be involved in.
Julien: i have no idea how i got here so i have absolutely no advice to provide.
Vaughn: In some magazines, they have like dating articles. I end up reading them when I'm looking through them for editorial ideas.
Vaughn: I mean you really never thought you'd wanna find someone you would wanna date?
Vaughn: It because you're an attractive guy, who is also nice. That is hard to come by sometimes. I also imagine you are a change of pace from the dudes she probably dated on the isle.
Text ft. The Maverick
Aleena: depends. will my clothes be kept on or off?
Vaughn: [ .... ]
// 10 minutes later \\
Vaughn: My intention was to have you be fully clothed.
Vaughn: But if you'd like to explore the other option I imagine we can figure out a artistic and tasteful way to do so...
Text ft. The Maverick
Vaughn: Hey..Uh..
Vaughn: I was thinking about the comment you made the other day... when we ran in to eachother... and.. well...
Vaughn: would you be up for a shoot like that.
Vaughn: I mean the lights and stuff not the sitting on top of me part
text ft. the contingent
Julien: yeah. definitely nervous.
Julien: it was good.
Julien: well, i hung out at my place the other night.
Julien: nothing special just watched a movie and had some food.
Julien: i feel like that could be a good sign.
Vaughn: Ooo a night in kind of thing. It is a good sign. Means she wants to be intimate or something... Idk, I forget what the article I read said.
Vaughn: Look at you getting out there, and making moves. I'm kind of jealous.
Vaughn: I think the last "date" I had was a mother/son date when my mom came to visit a few weeks ago.
text ft. the contingent
Julien: it went well.
Julien: she enjoyed the restaurant.
Julien: it was mostly sushi and i really enjoyed it.
Julien: the wine was good too so if you wanted to plan to splurge one day it could be worth it. if you like sushi.
Vaughn: Good, I'm happy for you! I know you were a bit nervous and all.
Vaughn: Hmm, maybe. I've never really been a sushi guy. But the website made the food look really good so now I'm curious.
Vaughn: Do you know if there is going to be a date number two?
text ft. the contingent
Vaughn: So... How did your date go on Saturday??
Vaughn: Did she like the restaurant?
Vaughn: I also wanna know how the food was and if it may be worth spending my life savings to go try it.
