“It’s fine if you’re not fine, really,” she spoke sympathetically, offering a soft smile, “whether it’s bringing a damper on the mood or not, it’s still bothering you. If you don’t want to talk about it, we don’t have to, but I’m okay with it.” she leaned against the wall, placing her weight on one hip. “Even if you don’t want to talk about it now, but decide you want to talk about it later, you know where to find me.”
But Dae was right. Nami hadn’t owed him shit, realistically speaking. She didn’t owe him a rhyme or reason as to why she did anything she did. No one on Earth really owed anything to anyone. That was simply the nature of existing. “I will say this though, and I’m sorry if this is oversteppin’ but…” she paused for a moment, thinking of how to phrase this without sounding like a pompous hipster asshole.
“No one should be your source of happiness. Not Nami, not Duolingo, not even dad or me or Luci- no singular person should have a hold on how you feel but yourself. Being dependent on a single person… can only be a bad thing in the long run. Cause people leave. In our line of work, people die. That’s just… how it goes, y’know? I know how it feels to be in a room full of people and feel like you’ve never been more alone because you don’t have your special person beside you… trust me, I do. But you do have us.”
Dae knew Hisoka was right. After all, his source of happiness shouldn’t be tied to a single person. Or people in general. Which, he thought it wasn’t. After all, he tried to guard himself from people. Hell, in the beginning, he wasn’t even friendly with anyone within the Howlers, let alone wanting a boyfriend. Yet, here he was, heartbroken over his sister leaving and with a boyfriend.
He sighed softly. “It’s not that she was my source of happiness,” he explained softly, trying to not make it seem like he was that pathetic and that bad off. “She wasn’t. But she was the only person I trusted fully, entirely. She was the one and only person I’d die for,” he explained, “The person I did die for. It isn’t about my happiness, because it’s whatever. I’ll be fine. It’s more just, feeling alone now.”
“Seokju is lovely, he is. I-- I love him. A lot. And I trust him. I trust you guys. But I don’t trust anyone as much as I trusted Nami. So that’s why I’m mainly upset. She wasn’t my main source of happiness,” he continued, biting his lip before sighing. He shook his head. “I think we should just drop it. Okay?”
