Scorpius could be incredibly stubborn, and when it came to being angry and upset? He could hold onto that for an unhealthy amount of time if he really wanted to. So it was fortunate that his boyfriend was the most persistent boy he’d ever met, even if at the moment it was doing nothing more than annoying him worse than he had been. He’d probably be even more angry if Louis wasn’t attempting to make it right, though, so really he was just being moody. He could deal with people looking at his boyfriend all the time, sure, that didn’t make him jealous one bit (Louis was his, why should he be jealous of people who had no chance?) but… this was a different story entirely. He didn’t want Louis to acknowledge the attention in a positive way, or any way that might give some one hope they had a chance with him. Because they didn’t. And it wasn’t right to let them think so. He almost calms down at the smell of Louis’ shampoo because when he leans his head on his shoulder the curly hair tickles his nose. But then, he says exactly the wrong thing. Scorpius’ brows raise and his face scrunches in frustration. Why couldn’t he just apologize for what he’d done so they could move on from there… he didn’t want excuses, or accusations. Saying Scorpius was the cause for their rumors was a hit that he really didn’t need right then. The thing was that Scorpius had spent a majority of his life getting over rumors and trying not to care what other people thought, and really he’d gotten quite good at it… but dating Louis brought up a whole different layer of rumors and discussions about him. Sure, it was definitely jealousy. He agreed with him on that part at the very least. “I didn’t make it a problem!” He tries to keep his voice low, so as not to attract any attention to them, suddenly self-conscious because of what Louis had just said, “don’t try to make this my fault. You’re the one flirting with people right in front of your boyfriend – honestly, do you even think before you talk? I can’t believe you’d blame me.” When Louis takes his hand he immediately tugs it away, anger evident in the glare he shoots him. “Well even if you don’t think so, that boy obviously will now. I bet you he’ll ask you out next week. You were more than friendly.” He shrugs away from him, unfortunately pressed against the couch so he can’t move further away from him any more. “You can’t even just apologize? You can compliment me all you want, and yes I know you love me, but all I’m getting from you is you don’t think you did anything wrong… So really, I don’t get how I’m supposed to feel better… you’re just going to do this again, probably.”
Does he have the persistence to handle this? Yes. He is a Delacour-Weasley; he can handle ANYTHING. Does he, in this particular instant, feel like he has the persistence to handle this? ... debatable; he’s half-and half. He knows he CAN, but it’s proving more difficult than he would like it to be ( though, where Scorpius was concerned, anything was worth it ). Still, it’s not like he’d just quit, especially because he truly DID feel bad——if not for his actions themselves, for the fact that they’d made Scorpius this upset. He and Scorpius were viewing this in two very different ways, and while differing opinions were not necessarily a bad thing, in the moment they weren’t exactly helpful. From what Louis could gather, Scorpius definitely saw a problem in what he’d done while he himself really didn’t. Hell, Louis BARELY counted that as flirting at all. If their positions were reversed, Louis certainly wouldn’t have minded. But that wasn’t exactly the point at the moment; their situations were not reversed, and it was Scorpius’ feelings that he was focused on, even if he didn’t quite get where the blond was coming from.
He hadn’t meant his words to be taken quite like that—though it seemed like it would be difficult to take them any other way. The last thing he wanted was to dump the blame for this on Scorpius ( even if he’s still adamant he didn’t do anything wrong ). This was something that was clearly a mutual misunderstanding; no one person should be shouldering all of the blame. Even worse was the fact that he had very accidentally implied that his boyfriend was at fault for all of the rumors, because he WASN’T. The rumors about the two of them stemmed from jealousy and wishful thinking, Louis knew that ( and the rumors that had begun to spread about him long before their friendship, even, had even LESS to do with him; centered around unwarranted fear and paranoia ). “ I didn’t SAY———okay, well, yes I did. I didn’t mean it like that, though. ” He keeps his voice quiet, too, because for once in his life, he doesn’t want to attract unnecessary attention. He swallows back a laugh ( and he’s glad he managed to keep it contained, because this was not a good time, and he didn’t want to make Scorpius even more angry ). “ Mon amour, that wasn’t a FLIRT. You know my flirting is much more impressive than that. And usually in French. I just winked. There’s a bunch of ways someone could take a wink. I wasn’t BLAMING it on you; you know that, ” ——except maybe he didn’t know that, because it did sound like he was trying to blame him. Whoops.
Eyes flicker down to his hand, but he can’t honestly say he’s surprised. He would be infinitely more surprised if Scorpius had let Louis keep his grip. The glare shot his direction only made him feel worse, resting his head against Scorpius’ shoulder once again. “ WHY would he do that? Scorpius, I was holding your hand; I’m sure he saw that. I’m very evidently taken, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. ” Louis moves his hand so that it’s on top of Scorpius’ again, though he doesn’t quite grip on; he’s still trying to give his boyfriend space... kind of. “ Well, no, I don’t think I did anything wrong. ” Probably a bad move, but oh well. “ I mean... I don’t think that there was anything wrong with what I did, but I AM sorry that I caused... this. If it makes you upset, I won’t do it again. ... OR, I’ll try my best not to. It’s sort of a habit. ”
