nell  was  super  sweet  for  being  able  to  believe  in  her  baking  abilities  without  even  seeing  them  up  close.  honestly,  alyssa  wasn't  even  quite  sure  that  nell  would've  wanted  to.  the  last  few  times  she's  even  tried  to  bake  a  cake?  well  .  .  .  the  last  thing  it  looked  like  or  turned  out  to  be  was  a  cake.  "  a  baking  masterclass..  oh,  yes,  please!  the  last  thing  i  need  is  to  try  and  host  a  party  and  want  to  actually  try  baking  something  and  it  turning  out  horribly.  "  not  that  she  was  hosting  any  parties  anytime  soon,  but  it  was  a  possibility  for  the  future  a  playful  wink  and  eyebrow  raise  at  the  sudden  suspicion.  "  you  might  be  spending  it  with  someone.  .  .  okay,  right.  now  who  is  this  someone?  do  i  get  any  particular  details  or  am  i  just  going  to  have  to  keep  guessing?  "

she  was  a  firm  believer  that  anyone  could  be  taught  anything  as  long  as  their  resources  and  guidance  was  helpful  ,  comprehensable  even  —  no  previous  experience  required  ,  no  special  degee  -  level  education  but  just  the  want  and  interest  to  learn.  "  then  it's  a  date  ,  you  ,  me  and  the  electronic  whisk.  "  she  giggles  ,  picking  at  one  of  the  cookies  she'd  prepared.  still  ,  she  was  sheepish  and  the  evidence  was  written  across  her  face  so  there  was  no  point  hiding  it.  "  i  don't  think  you'd  be  shocked  by  who  it  is.  "  she  decides  to  give  a  vague  hint  ,  anticipating  that  alyssa  would  guess  correctly  the  first  time.

getting  her  hair  done  had  always  made  her  feel  10x  better  than  usual.  it  was  always  so  nice  to  do  something  for  yourself  for  a  change.  "  thank  you  for  the  reassurance!  you  know  when  you  see  something  so  you  decide  that  you  have  to  try  it  out?  that  was  me  earlier  today  before  coming  here.  "  bella  liked  to  change  it  up  every  once  and  a  while.  try  new  things  out  even  if  she  wasn't  a  big  fan  when  it  came  to  changes  often.  "  the  most  talented!  don't  think  this  is  something  i  could  ever  do,  though.  i  feel  like  it  wouldn't  turn  out  the  way  the  customer  would  imagine  and  i  wouldn't  want  to  be  letting  anyone  down.  "  one  of  the  reasons  why  she'd  mostly  stuck  to  her  art.  her  eyes  finding  their  way  back  to  the  mirror  as  she  let  out  a  slight  laugh.  "  i  suppose  you  aren't  wrong!  but  hey,  the  same  can  also  be  said  for  you  too,  by  the  way!  "

"  totally  ,  and  i  think  everyone  should  try  new  styles  more  often.  "  she  admits  ,  fiddling  with  the  ends  of  her  black  tresses  until  they  laid  perfectly  across  her  shoulders  and  she  was  content  with  it.  "  oh  ,  you  and  me  both  ,  girl  —  nor  do  i  have  the  patience  it  takes  to  blend  colours  ,  or  reach  the  most  perfect  cut.  "  it  was  all  rather  overwhelming  she'd  thought  ,  being  in  a  career  that  depended  upon  positive  feedback.  "  you're  too  kind  ,  thank  you.  "

"  oh  ,  you're  so  right  —  i  can  just  see  the  chaos  that  would  pursue  ,  the  town  entering  a  COMPLETE  frenzy.  "  lucia's  mind  was  nothing  if  not  creative  ,  and  perhaps  it  was  a  stretch  from  reality  but  she  was  more  than  happy  to  share  it  with  anyone  that  listened.  "  come  on  ,  you  can't  keep  a  girl  in  the  dark  like  this!  "  she  gave  a  playful  jab  at  his  side  ,  tone  borderline  whiny.

"  fine  with  me  then!  since  you  seem  like  you  don't  want  to  do  much,  and  that's  allowed,  we  can  just  stay  in  and  maybe  just  watch  a  movie  or  something.  what  do  you  think?  i'll  get  us  some  snacks.  popcorn,  candy,  whatever  you  want.  and  if  you  don't  want  anything,  that's  fine  too.  "  glancing  over  to  her  sister  to  see  what  she  had  originally  thought  about  the  plan  first  before  deciding  to  go  along  with  it.  unpacking  was  very  much  a  lot  and  it  was  time  consuming.  it  took  a  lot  of  focus  and  time  and  she  could  understand  the  reasoning  to  why  lois  didn't  really  feel  like  going  ahead  and  doing  any  of  that  right  now.  "  well  ...  that  certainly  doesn't  sound  too  good.  let's  just  hope  that  you  don't  end  up  running  into  her  ever  again.  "

her  sister's  assumption  was  entirely  right  ,  she  didn't  want  to  do  anything  following  the  absolute  embarrassment  she  faced  this  morning  but  spending  time  with  alyssa  inside  was  something  she  was  more  than  happy  to  partake  in.  "  a  movie  and  snacks  sounds  perfect  ,  i  can  bring  the  mattress  and  duvet  out  here  if  you'd  like  ?  a  real  cinema  experience.  "  she  grins  ,  suddenly  excited.  "  i  would  rather  die  than  ever  see  HER  again.  "  dramatic  maybe  ,  but  it  was  the  truth.

this  bakery  in  particular  seems  to  be  everyone's  go  -  to  bakery  and  that  had  made  her  quite  happy  to  see.  hadley was getting ready to leave for her break soon but stopped when the next customer had gotten into line. just  then  hadley  had  noticed  a  man  with  his  child  come  in  and  be  next  in  line.  once  the  customer  in  front  of  them  had  paid  for  their  order  and  left;  she  got  things  ready  for  the  next  one  to  come  up.  which  just  so  happened  to  be  him.  "  well,  hey  there!  what  can  i  get  for  you  two  today?  "  the  happiest  of  smiles  were  now  forming  along  hadley's  face.  "  we  just  added  a few  new  things  to  our  menu.  but,  if  they're  not  really  something  that  you're  feeling  i  did  just  bake  a  fresh  batch  of  cookies  and  cupcakes  earlier  this  morning.  "

lola  seemed  to  giggle  when  he  kissed  her  hand  ,  and  that  made  his  day  turn  on  its'  head  so  he  smiled  —  not  fake  ,  not  sheepish  but  real  and  true.  he  tickled  at  her  sides  and  she  entered  a  laughing  frenzy  ,  one  that  was  so  contagious  that  he  followed  suit  until  they  were  next  to  order.  the  two  year  old  pointed  at  what  she  wanted  ,  and  he  scoffed  a  little.  "  guess  that  answers  your  question  ,  and  i'll  take  a  cupcake  please.  "  he  requests  ,  lola  practically  drooling  at  the  sight  of  baked  goods.  "  busy  day?  "  he  couldn't  help  but  ask  ,  making  conversation  was  somewhat  easy  for  him.

surprise  visit  to  his  little  sister’s  apartment  is  no  longer  an  unusual  occurrence  at  this  point  ,  especially  since  they  both  live  in  the  same  neighborhood  .  “  apparently  there  is  a  day  for  all  sorts  of  things  —  we  celebrated  national  kitten  day  at  the  rescue  the  other  day  and  guess  what  ?  yes  ,  that’s  right  .  i  did  get  myself  one  .  ”  which  is  why  he’s  here  ,  finally  revealing  the  gray  kitten  to  lois  ,  the  happiest  grin  spreading  across  his  features  .  “  isn’t  he  the  cutest  ?  anyone  would  be  crazy  to  not  bring  him  home  after  seeing  that  cute  little  face  .  it’s  hard  to  resist  !  guess  what  i  named  him  ?  ”

the  announcement  of  eldest  brother  adopting  a  new  kitten  wasn't  on  her  bingo  card  ,  and  she  was  in  fact  rather  confused  by  the  choice  regardless  of  the  context  he'd  provided.  brows  furrow  ,  head  slightly  cocked  to  one  side  until  he  revealed  the  timid  ball  of  fluff  and  features  softened  as  she  locked  eyes  with  it.  "  give  him  to  me  ,  right  now.  "  she  demands  playfully  ,  taking  a  step  forward  and  hands  ready  to  hold  with  the  most  tenderly  ,  loving  care  she  could  provide.  "  he  looks  like  a  frank  ,  so  i'll  go  with  that."  she  teases  ,  blue  hues  not  lifting  from  the  tiny  pet.

she  grins  from  ear  to  ear  ,  stepping  behind  the  girl's  salon  chair  once  she's  paid  for  the  services  she's  finished  having.  "  you  made  the  right  choice  for  sure.  "  she  reassures  ,  gaze  dancing  across  the  back  of  bella's  head  in  awe  at  the  pure  art  of  hair  -  styling.  "  these  girls  are  so  talented  at  what  they  do  ,  don't  you  think  ?  "  zara  compliments  the  team  that's  looked  after  them  both  ,  expression  full  of  gratitude.  "  look  in  that  mirror  ,  girl  !  you  are  gorgeous  ,  the  hair  design  is  just  an  addition.  "

she  didn’t  try  to  answer  right  away.    just  let  herself  breathe,     slow  and  uneven,     like  she  was  relearning  how.     “  i  think,  ”    she  started,     voice  barely  there,     “  i  needed  to  hear  that  more  than  i  realized.  ”      her  head  tilted  slightly,     cheek  brushing  against  lois’s  shoulder  as  if  grounding  herself  in  the  moment.    “  it’s  hard  sometimes.     to  believe  it.     but  when  you  say  it…  ”     she  paused,     a  flicker  of  something  like  hope  catching  in  her  chest,    “  it  feels  a  little  easier  to  try.  ”     then,     almost  a  whisper  —  not  because  she  didn’t  mean  it,     but  because  it  was  heavy  with  truth:    “  i  love  you,     lois.     i  really,    really  do.  ”

there  was  no  rush  for  an  answer  ,  granting  her  all  the  time  she  needed  to  process  and  respond  —  she  meant  what  she  said  ,  she  wasn't  going  anywhere.  unable  to  conceal  a  brief  smile  ,  face  turning  towards  her  best  friend  and  watching  how  breathing  seemed  to  slow  ,  relax  even.  her  lips  forming  words  ,  sentences  of  vulnerable  truth  and  then  she  nodded  in  agreement.  "  it  is  but  you've  got  this  ,  you're  strong  and  beautiful.  healing  will  happen  and  it  doesn't  need  to  happen  all  at  once  and  right  now  ,  you  take  your  time  and  if  anyone's  trying  to  rush  you  ,  send  them  my  way.  "  she  gives  another  small  grin  ,  more  than  willing  to  fight  adi's  battles  for  her  if  required.  "  and  i  love  you  ,  more  than  you  know.  "

his  smile  hitched  —  something  caught  between  smug  and  completely  undone  —  at  the  way  she  kissed  his  hand.     like  she  didn’t  even  know  what  she  did  to  him  with  something  that  soft.     like  she  did  know,      and  liked  watching  him  sit  with  it.     “  see,     that’s  the  problem.  ”   he  said,     voice  rougher  now,     lower,     like  she’d  tugged  something  out  of  him  without  even  trying.     “  you  say  shit  like  that,     and  i  forget  we’re  not  alone  out  here.  ”     he  let  her  pull  away  just  long  enough  to  lift  her  pinky,     and  the  second  she  did,     he  met  it  with  his  own  —  hooking  gently,     sealing  the  deal  like  they  were  kids  making  sacred  vows  on  a  playground.

“  guess  that  settles  it  then,  ”     he  murmured,     leaning  in  just  enough  for  her  to  feel  the  warmth  of  it,     like  it  could  tether  them  closer  across  the  table.     “  another  date  night  and  dessert.  ”     he  finally  looked  at  the  menu  again  —  barely  —  then  back  at  her,     chin  resting  in  his  hand  like  he  was  already  full.     “  not  sure  i’m  gonna  be  able  to  focus  on  anything  else  now,     though.     might  need  you  to  order  for  me,     sugar.  ”

soft  plush  lips  couldn't  help  but  linger  against  the  back  of  his  hand  ,  gaze  lifting  to  meet  his  in  utter  silence  for  a  moment  and  all  that  needed  to  be  said  was  glistening  in  dark  pupils.  truth  was  ,  she  could  exchange  longing  glances  with  him  all  day  and  never  tire  from  it  ,  never  get  bored  of  simply  staring  at  him  and  communicating  without  words.  she  laughed  at  his  next  sentence  ,  she  couldn't  deny  that  —  it  was  wholeheartedly  the  truth  ,  both  of  them  often  forgot  that  they  weren't  alone  inside  a  bubble.  "  forgive  me  ?  "  lashes  flutter  with  feigned  innocence  ,  little  fingers  clinging  together  before  she  pulled  his  fingers  back  into  her  grasp.  

there  was  too  much  space  between  them  ,  the  table  an  obvious  barrier  but  she  wouldn't  ruin  all  the  hard  work  that  went  into  planning  tonight  ,  all  his  hard  work.  "  i'll  never  forget  dessert.  "  she  promises  ,  that  hint  of  teasing  still  obvious  for  him.  hands  were  somewhat  clammy  ,  date  -  jitters  subtle  but  real  and  so  she  let  free  hand  push  unbound  black  strands  away  from  her  face.  "  and  what  is  it  that  i'm  ordering  for  you  ,  sir  ?  "  she  grinned  from  ear  to  ear  ,  still  undecided  on  her  own  order.

her  plea  ricocheted  through  him  like  a  bullet,     shattering  any  semblance  of  restraint  he  might’ve  been  holding  onto.     not  that  there  was  much  to  begin  with.     not  when  it  came  to  her.     not  when  she  looked  at  him  like  that  —  all  big  eyes  and  bitten  lips,     flush  creeping  up  her  cheeks  as  he  drove  into  her  again  and  again,     merciless,     relentless,     ravenous.    “  never.  ”    he  growled,     low  and  feral,     one  hand  tangling  in  her  hair  to  yank  her  head  back,     exposing  the  elegant  line  of  her  throat.     his  teeth  scraped  across  the  delicate  skin  there,     biting  down  just  hard  enough  to  leave  a  mark  without  breaking  flesh.    claiming  her.     branding  her.     ruining  her  for  anyone  else.

the  wall  shuddered  behind  them  with  each  brutal  snap  of  his  hips,     stucco  digging  into  her  shoulders,     her  back.     his  other  hand  slid  further  down,     gripping  the  back  of  her  knee  to  hitch  her  leg  higher,     opening  her  wider,     allowing  him  to  sink  impossibly  deeper.     their  bodies  slapped  together  obscenely,     echoing  off  the  walls  like  some  primal  drumbeat  urging  them  on.     he  didn’t  ease  up.     didn’t  give  her  a  second  to  catch  her  breath.     instead,     he  pounded  into  her  harder,     faster,     determined  to  wring  every  last  drop  of  pleasure  from  her  writhing  form  until  she  was  boneless  and  spent  and  utterly,     irrevocably  his.     “  that’s  it,     babygirl.  ”     he  panted  against  her  ear,     voice  hoarse  and  strained.     "  fucking  take  it.   take  every  fucking  inch  like  the  good  girl  you  are.  ”    and  then,     because  he  couldn’t  resist,     his  thumb  found  her  clit,     circling  the  sensitive  nub  roughly,    mercilessly,     in  time  with  each  punishing  thrust.
