My Blog, Or: To All The Hyperfixations Iโve Had Before
*comes onto a mutualโs blog and sees they changed their aesthetic or layout* oh wow I love what u did with the place
It's punk as hell to defy those who would keep you down by taking care of yourself. So, I dunno, drink water or something. Have a snack. Take your cups to the sink. Remember that you've survived your worst day every single day so far. Keep kicking ass.
Im just very smart and i see gay subtext in everything
new aesthetic: cottage punk
-cool and fun blend of cottagecore aesthetics with punk values
-whatโs more punk than reading abolitionist literature while sipping your tea and having some fresh fruit
-baking fresh bread from scratch and then making little sandwiches to give out to protesters
-romping around in a meadow wearing your old beat up docs, stopping to rest in the shade, laying on your DIYed leather jacket like a blanket
-fingers stained with spray paint from making ACAB murals by the road, a crown of wildflowers in your hair
-mutual aid!! free soup for the revolution!!
-guerrilla gardening, basically vandalism but with gardening. making use of unused spaces to plant a nice community vegetable garden or some pretty flowers
-covered head to toe in tattoos of various herbs, wildflowers, mushrooms, fruit, and other nature things
-running away to a cottage in the woods!! whats more punk than abandoning capitalism and building a happy little life for yourself and living off the land. good for the environment AND bad for corporations. thatโs how you stick it to the man.
-jam sessions in the woods when your bellies are full of fresh fruit and the sky is clear above you, everyone sings along to woody guthrie
-literally just gentleness. kindness. love. what is more punk than passionately loving yourself and the world around you?
donโt be realistic on what you want. be realistic on how youโre going to get it.
hereโs to every girl working so so hard to reach her goal. i see you. you can do it.
i donโt think we acknowledge enough that when children want to be treated โlike adultsโ what they really mean is โlike peopleโ
this is just my own observations of course but 90% of the time when a kid tries to get people to treat them like an adult, what they really want is the respect and acknowledgement that they associate with adulthood - because thatโs what they must give the adults. they have to give that to the adults in their lives, but the adults never give that same respect back, and so they see that difference and decide that they want to be treated โlike an adultโ
and sometimes i see parents who are like fine you want to be treated like an adult then you can work and pay rent but thatโs the exact OPPOSITE of what the kid is actually asking for. youโre just belittling them, clearly intending to punish them for daring ask for your respect, clearly intending for them to break down and beg to be โtreated like a childโ again because you purposefully twisted their wants. they ask for respect, and you give them abuse.
never, ever, ever, treat a child like a full grown adult. itโs our responsibility as adults NOT to, because they ARENT adults no matter how much they think they want to be, and itโs our job as adults to take care of them.
that said, ALWAYS treat children like people. because they ARE that. theyโre real people with real agency acting as best as they know to with what knowledge they have
itโs not a matter of kids trying to grow up too fast, itโs a matter of kids wanting to be treated like people instead of objects or pets.
I hate, hate, hate, hate, HATE it when other adults get after me for 'talking to that kid like an adult'. They say, 'it's not age appropriate'.
Let me be clear: I DO NOT discuss things that are topically inappropriate for a child's age. Ever. Sex, despair, pain, death, and trauma are Off. The. Table.
So, what is it we talk about? Easy: Science.
A 10 year old girl asked me, "Why do we have blood?" And I told her, "Well, do you know what your blood does?" She said no, so I told her, "Your blood's job is to carry air to your brain when you breathe. If your blood can't get oxygen to your head fast enough, and you can get dizzy or faint. You need blood so that the air you breathe can go where it's needed".
The other adult in the room decided I shouldn't be talking to a child 'like that'. Said it would 'just go over her head'. "Look, she's not even listening!"
"No, I'm listening," she said, but the conversation was over.
Kids aren't dumb. They WANT to be talked to with respect for their autonomy and intelligence.
Am I going to start breaking out words like Mytosis or Rhinoplasty without explanation? Of course not. But if they want to know why their nose is called a "Rhino-", I'll tell them.
I REMEMBER adults telling me I was too young or not ready to learn something I was interested in. I REMEMBER being told to grab easier books, to be at peace with addition when I WANTED to try division.
I remember for getting detention because a TA told my class to sit down and be quiet and I told him, "You're standing up and yelling at us, why don't you have to follow the rules?"
I remember telling a teacher to stop being condescending, only to get a funny look and, 'what a big word! Do you know what that means?' As if I'd just throw it out there if I didn't think I knew how.
Adults tell you what to do and say that it's for a good reason, but the reason can't possibly be that good if even THEY don't follow it all the time.
Adults tell you that not eating your veggies is rude and unhealthy, but you've never seen greens on your father's plate in your life and nobody gets after HIM. Why are you the only one who has to do things you don't like? If you're rude, why isn't he?
And when you're *really* young, that's the WORST, because everyone wants to *quiz* you on shit. "Can you say 'school' sweetheart?" Yeah, I can, lady. I was doing something, though, so can it wait? I knowsyou're just gonna keep picking words. This can't possibly be fun for you.
Ughghgggghhf. I could be mad about this all day. I don't want to be another one of the adults I had to put up with
FINALLY someone put it into words. I see other adults treating minors and kids like they donโt have agency- like their emotions and wants and opinions arenโt worth their (the adults) time and consideration. It makes me so angry. -A
I remade this oneโฆ. think itโs funnier this way.
You guys do realize people are going to gatekeep punk right the whole subculture of being punk is a gatekeep you have to fit in these certain categories to be punk
i beg you to remember when Haruki Murakami saidโ so that's how we live our lives. no matter how deep and fatal the loss, no matter how important the thing that's stolen from us--that's snatched right out of our hands--even if we are left completely changed, with only the outer layer of skin from before, we continue to play out our lives this way, in silence. we draw ever nearer to the end of our allotted span of time, bidding it farewell as it trails off behind. repeating, often adroitly, the endless deeds of the everyday. leaving behind a feeling of immeasurable emptiness. and go livE your lives.
hereโs a video of yongguk saying โme llamo bang yonggukโ then saying โte amoโ and blowing a kiss because is good for your health.
some things iโve learned while studying in quarantine
drink more water instead of more coffee.
weekly goals are bullshit. set yourself 3-day goals. youโll be less laid-back.
donโt just mindlessly stare at words. before you start studying, know your approach to it. have a plan.
summarizing the concept in your own words is the key part of taking notes. donโt just copy things down, convert them into your own way of talking, your own vocabulary, no matter how dumb and unprofessional it sounds.
donโt let the โstudyblr aestheticโ fool you. studying doesnโt have to be pretty. summaries and notes can be messy as long as theyโreย comprehensible. you can always rewrite and reorganize them later. (honestly, you better do. and you better keep them.)
donโt throw away the papers youโve solved your problems in. staple them to the fucking textbook. you need to see them constantly. cause youโll need reminders of how far youโve came, when youโre feeling discouraged.
donโt be an armchair analyst for your issues. if you have an idea then act on it.
remember: the exact point where it becomes difficult, is where your growth begins. take a deep breath, and try to focus on the paragraph in front of you.
get off your high horse and understand that if youโre a zero, you wonโt go to 100 in a couple of days. first, youโll need to reach 30, then from 30 to 60, and then from 60 to 90. nobody is 100 everyday. that happens very rarely.
you need to have fun everyday. you need to have peaceful time every single day. even on exam night. especially on exam night, actually. so make sure youโve studied enough so you can have some time to yourself.
once youโre on a roll and in need of some challenge to stay on track, start writing down your studying hours. tell yourself youโre not allowed to do less than 80% of what you did yesterday. whatever the hell it was, even just one hour. so if yesterday you really studied for like, say 8 hours, today your goal is to study for at least 6 and a half hours. if you canโt keep up with that, make it 70%, or 60%.ย
be forgiving of yourself. be kind to yourself. even if you bounced back and lost your streak. start again. as slowly as you did before. take your time. itโs okay, you were there once you can get there again.
