“I don’t know why I volunteered in the first place, to be honest.”

“It was fun, I’m glad in the end I came to see John bid on possibly every basket available…”

“Including mine?”

“Honestly, I won’t be surprised if he bails. He seems to have his hands full, you know?”

“Yeah. I’m not exactly good with crowds, either.”

“To be honest, I’m just glad it’s over with.”

“But if I do that, I might trample a bunch of people. Probably you, since you’re near me. So, I must stay calm. Calm.”

“That’s quite alright. I’m starving so I figured I’d see if I’ve got enough money to pick one. Do any of them smell good to you? I prefer to trust my nose than descriptions.”

“Anything that has homemade food has got to be good. I mean, I hope.”

“It most definitely does! How are you this morning?”

“Do you have your eye on any baskets?”

“Oh, I’m all right. How’re you, Henry?”

“I’m not sure yet. I’m mostly just here because Faye talked me into it.”

“It seems like the whole town is here, doesn’t it?”

“Oh. I... guess I was wondering if you were busy.”

Eric couldn’t help but laugh, holding his stomach as he did. “That’s pretty funny actually and you’re right about that. I’ve never known what goes in it. I tried to ask once, but no one would tell me.” He shrugged his shoulders. “It looks soft, so it must taste not half bad, but it’s also just a giant slab of meat. That’s a strange concept.”

“I don’t want to know what kinds of things people consider meat.”

“Thanks, V.” He smiled, taking the empty seat by her. “You know, it’s weird being in here. I don’t like it. And this suit sucks.”

“Try being ready to run in four inch heels.”

“We can worry about the slapping later, V. Right now, we gotta try to get away from a bear that wants to maul us.” Peter whispered, peeking over the log to see what the bear was doing. “Do you have a sandwich or something?”

“No! Why would I have a sandwich?”

“Outside of that and book titles, I don’t really have anything else to recommend for you.” Izzy shrugged. “Maybe a circus will roll into Ever After. Then there’ll be something to do.” 

“I’ve always been a fan of books.”

Izzy nodded. “Yes please, I’d like that. It’s a small purse, probably about this big,” she used her hands, roughly estimating the size of her purse with them. “and it’s a light teal color.”

“All right.” Veronica nodded, disappearing into the office of the restaurant before emerging again, unsuccessful. “I’m sorry,” she said, holding out her empty hands.
