Whatever the younger woman was upset about, Olivia was certain that it could wait. It wouldn’t take long for her to get herself a cup of coffee… and the more adamant that the raven haired girl was that she had the scoop of the century, the more that Olivia wanted to take her time. “And what gives you the impression that anyone around here is slacking? We’re human beings, just like anyone else.” She paused, glancing at the coffee pot on the other side of her office. “So feel free to take a seat and start telling me about this story of yours. But I definitely need that cup of coffee. Are you sure I can’t interest you in any?”
Despite feeling agitated at the other girl, Veronica took a seat and got out her leather organiser, her eyes scanning to today’s date, seeing how much time she had to talk to the Register. “No thank you, I’ve had enough coffee for today.” If she had any more, her irritation would increase and Veronica was meticulous about her caffeine in take. “I want you to interview me. I want to set the record straight on my father.”
Heather narrowed her eyes in confusion. She couldn’t believe that she was being talked to in this way. She usually prided herself on being friendly, but this girl obviously had a lot of issues if she thought that she could speak to a complete stranger in this manner.
“Well, that was quite rude.” Heather stared simply. “But yes, I am new here…” She replied. “If you can’t even help, why did you even respond to me. You could’ve just walked away. Yet, here you are wasting your time on someone who apparently needs a xanax.”
Rude. The word hit her harder than it should, her smirk falling slightly. That was the old Veronica, she was rude. The new Veronica wouldn’t be but old habits die hard. “Well I still can’t help you, I’m looking to sign up for some myself.”
Lottie stood quietly behind the raven-haired girl, trying to mind her own business, though the other girl’s tone was definitely making it hard for her not to overhear her conversation. But when the unnamed girl turned around to face Lottie, she just offered a sweet smile.
❝ It’s absolutely fine. I have two brothers, that’s barely loud. ❞ She spoke, her hands slipping into the pockets of her jeans.
“Two brothers? I’m sorry to hear that. I have a cousin and he’s an absolute nightmare, so I can’t imagine what it’d be like to live with two boys.” She laughed, even though she was slightly envious, being an only child herself. When she was younger she had begged her parents for a sister, as she had been put off brothers by her cousin Leroy. But right now, she would have taken a brother; someone who would be on her side against her parents.
Veronica was at her locker and had paused to listen to some girls theorise about who killed Jason. Her father’s name was brought up, making her feel queasy. She was about to insert herself into the conversation and defend her father when she noticed a girl in a yellow leather jacket at the locker behind those girls. She recognised this girl, but she didn’t know where from. Pushing past the group of girls, she moved towards this girl.
“I like the jacket, it’s very Olivia Newton John in Grease but without the god-awful music.”
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” Ethan stumbled to the floor, trying to gather all the papers he’d knocked out of the person’s hands when he’d turned a corner a bit too sharp. “I really need to start paying more attention when I’m walking.”
Veronica was looking through her organiser when suddenly it was flung out her hands. “Oh my god.” She snapped, before snatching her organiser from the other person’s hands. “Yeah you really should. You’re a walking disaster.”
Archie laughed along at Veronica’s descriptions of the people and couples around Pop’s. She had a point, though maybe it was a bit rude to make those types of assumptions about people. Either way, Archie found it to be entertaining. “Sorry, that may not have been the right word. Maybe I should say that it’s unfortunate that you haven’t seen the stars shine.” He stated simply. A date? Sounds like a plan to me.” Archie grinned. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and handed it over to Veronica. “You should put your number in, that way I can ask you when you’re free for said date.”
“Well then I’d have to say it’s unfortunate you’ve never been to Butter in New York. Or seen Monet at the MET. I could go on.” Veronica did love the things New York had to offer, but Riverdale seemed a better place for her to be, after the scandal with her father. “You’ll have to ask me very in advance, I plan to be a busy person once school starts.” She laughed, before adding her number in his phone, with a black heart emoji next to Veronica. Veronica then heard her name being called for her order.
“The ball’s in your court, Andrews.” She teased, before leaving Pop’s, order in hand.
(¸.• ♛ → “Well, It’s nice to know that.” She says with a small smile, the blonde always tries to be kind, she couldn’t help it, she was always this way. “But I guess is a big change from New York, uh? I’ve heard you were there, I don’t listen to gossips or I don’t like them but that one seems about right maybe.”
“You’re correct. New York is very different and it’s not just the place. The people too.” Veronica wasn’t bothered that the other girl had heard she was from New York, she was sure talk about Veronica couldn’t be avoided. “The people here seem more genuine. I don’t know why. It’s just a feeling.”
“The two high school dream boats with whom everyone would want a date with? No, not them. Doubtful, because in my case he’s either probably dead or selling jingle jangle.”
“They’d make a good couple. Are you not telling me who it is because he’s a ghoulie?”
“Listen, whatever you’re about to tell me will have to wait. I need at least two more cups of coffee before I can process anything,” Olivia admitted, almost embarrassed that she was in such a state. She hadn’t gotten much sleep over the past few days. There wasn’t a reason for it… not really. But it seemed that every time she rested her head on her pillow, her mind would light up with a thousand different thoughts at once. She sighed, trying to get the last of her fatigue out of her system. “Actually, do you want any? I feel like it’d be rude to get a cup just for myself.”
Veronica was on a mission, and her first stop was the Register. Storming in, she stopped the first person she saw, ignoring her babble about coffee. She wanted to be heard, and she could think about nothing else until her plan was in place. “Listen here wannabe Christiane Amanpour, I know the Register isn’t the New York Times but you shouldn’t be slacking. Especially when I have a story for you.”
“Characters? What do you mean?” Archie wondered curiously. He shook his head to himself and chuckled at Veronica’s reaction to stargazing. “It’s not as bad as you’d think. You’re from a big city, right? You probably have never seen the stars shine as brightly as they do in Riverdale. We may be stuck in a time warp, but you were sheltered for not being able to see the stars shine!” He joked with her. “But sure, I’d be down to show you. All over town is pretty great, but Sweetwater River is the best place to see them around here.”
“I mean look at that couple by the window,” Veronica motioned, tilting her head slightly, towards the elderly woman and younger man. “It’s like if Betty White and Harry Styles were on a date. So wrong!” She laughed, before motioning towards another couple. “And don’t get me started on those two.” The word sheltered took Veronica by surprise. Even though Archie had not meant it in a malicious way, the word still stung, but she wouldn’t let that show. “Born and raised in New York, so no I haven’t seen the stars shine. But I’d love to. It’s a date.”
(¸.• ♛ → “A bit.” She says with a small smile now. “It’s nice to meet you though. I’m Betty Cooper.” After all, even if people were whispering things about her, she didn’t listen to rumors or anything like that, she always thought was horrible doing that. “How you like Riverdale so far, Veronica?”
It was a loaded question, Riverdale was lonely but so was New York. Riverdale at least had the potential to feel more homely, instead of cold. “On a scale from one to ten, I’d say it’s at least a six. Maybe a seven now that I’ve met you.”
“Well they’re not interested because they’re interested in each other so there’s that. Thanks, but hopefully someone does end up liking the adorable puppy look since it might be all I got going for me at the moment.”
“Are you talking about Archie & Reggie? Because I thought I saw something there. You just have to wait, your prince charming could be just around the corner.”
Heather was tapping her foot as she looked at the extracurricular activity board at Riverdale High. She was surprised to see the different options for how small the school was. The blonde sighed to herself as she was looking for a poster advertising show choir or soccer, her two loves and passions. Just then, she heard someone else approaching the board and decided to ask them. “Hey! I’m new here, though you probably already knew that since everyone seems to know everyone else here… Anyway, can you help me out? Is there a show choir? Also, when are soccer tryouts?” She asked curiously. “Sorry if I’m asking a lot of questions, I just don’t really know who to ask around here…” Heather admitted.
Veronica had just finished filling out her planner, and she so desperately wanted to fill the gaps. Making her way to the extracurricular activity board she spotted a blonde girl, who looked familiar, she was going to ignore her before the blonde started talking. “Okay first of all, pop a xanax, you’re asking way too many questions, way too fast. And secondly I can’t help you. It seems you’ve taken my position as Riverdale’s new girl.”
