Scotland is one of the first countries in the world to be trialling free sanitary products for women.
How fucking cool are we?
I completely understand why many people in Scotland want to be rid of us but on a completely selfish level I’m glad Scotland is part of the UK because you help make thing like this possible for the rest of us. Scotland makes us so much better.
This is entirely introduced by the Scottish government and Westminster is due no credit for this.
We would set a better example if we weren’t part of the UK and England would be better with its own parliament. I will be extremely surprised if Westminster follows suit on this any time soon.
I don’t resent the complimentary tone here, but it’s actually so toxic to treat us like we’re the good-natured babysitters preventing England from fucking up further. These measures are taking place because of SCOTTISH values, not British.
It’s not our responsibility to make good a country that has power over us, and no matter how many liberal English people like our left-wing measures - which we have no ability to push down south or to soften approaches to in the general populace - we could put in place far more with independence. Our vulnerable people are our highest priority, and it is not our responsibility to change a system that was created to never let us have the upper hand.

Same when I was in Estonia before Brexit;
I asked why this was this case, and the reason for this was that the Baltic states are somewhat sympathetic to countries that want independence, what with them eventually declaring independence from the Soviet Union.
When they finally declared themselves independent, Finland were one of the first nations to offer them support due to long-standing good relations between the two. They offered them support in their technology sector, which Finland were starting to develop an excellent reputation for and Estonia were still using old Soviet style telephone systems. They turned down this support, saying that they wanted to be able to do this themselves.
And now they’re one of the most digitally advanced societies. Ranked 1st for internet press freedom, and 8th for world freedom.
A small nation that thrives as part of being in the European Union with universal health care, free education, and strong social democracy, you say?
And they managed all of this without oil revenues??
Funny how Scotland is continually told that we cannot survive without England governing us. I’m sure the people of Estonia were told the same 27 years ago, and they didn’t look back.
England is heading backwards by leaving the European Union, and they’re dragging Scotland with them.
Scotland should not be afraid of independence. The Baltic States weren’t.
We already have the infrastructure in place to govern ourselves. We just have to have the courage to do it.

The Scottish Tories came out with a damning prediction ahead of Scotland’s growth figures being published earlier today.
“They can’t point to Brexit, because the rest of the UK is powering ahead - This is all on the SNP’s shoulders.”
You’ll have seen earlier than Scotland’s quarterly growth was 0.8%. “Powering ahead” the rest of the UK had 0.2% growth.
You heard it from the Tories, folks, Scotland’s growth is entirely on the SNP’s shoulders.
And in a stunning display of doublespeak from the BBC, they have referred to this in their news as “Scotland avoids recession”. I also manage to “avoid homelessness” by paying my rent, “avoid starvation” by eating food, and “avoid drowning” by being able to swim.
But of course, this is the BBC. They couldn’t possibly write the words “Scotland outperforms the rest of the UK”. Oh no, they must do everything they can to try and make the SNP look bad and make sure that they talk down Scotland at all times.
