Tokens are in! Thalia print!
Fire rooooooooster!
@ascendedminionproject @steveargyle
Okay, what is Fire Rooster?Ā I know screaming chicken.
I have no clue. My idea + Steveās brain = fire rooster!
Wow! Ā You get a print with the token?! Ā Such a cool patron level!
Yeah! Time to rack-and-stack my favorites!
Anybody have suggestions on ways to store and display prints of this size? Theyāre 11ā³x14ā³ and thereās no way Iāll be able to frame them all (there will be more!). Iām wondering if thereās a print display binder or something I can startā¦?
Go to dickblick.com There are a lot of options to choose from. I currently use non refillable presentation binders.
It was only a matter of time.
Honestly. Ā Thatās what first comes to mind when I think about what to say about Minion #194. Ā Check out the history.
This Minion began their quest in the shadow of previous Ascended Minions from Hive Alpha a little over three years ago. Ā Collecting chops that start at aĀ āBronze levelā alter⦠tough to come by⦠and continue up to a recent 100+ binge of Night Market Guards.
Other notable⦠notes⦠bribes! Ā Sorta. Ā Sending me donations for Ascended Minion Project is not a sure road to Ascension⦠but it never hurts. Ā I give away lots of stuff (something from my personal collection only an hour or so ago) so every little bit helps. Ā Donating money isnāt usually a thing, but helping out with the recent acquisition of a few thousand of Steveās L5R cards was definitely a welcome gesture.
On that note Minion #194 was the only non-Ascended contributor to that lot purchase. Ā Was. Ā I have to say that I had intended on selecting Minion #194 for the next Ascension at that point if none other of greater prowess emerged in the interim.
Also on that note, procuring that lot for the Ascended Minion Project coffers finally allowed me to assemble the card pool needed to produce the AMP PACKS that are intended to reward Minions for Game Shows and Ascensions.
This is the first of the Ascensions that AMP PACKS will be rewarding!Ā (They still arenāt ready yet pending Steveās contribution to their contents⦠but I am on top of it.)
The Ascension AMP Packs will include aĀ āfavorā card from now on (at least thatās the current plan) that can be redeemed for some act of generosity from Steve Argyle himself! Ā This is sorta the ultimate goal of participating in Ascended Minion Project!
Itāll seem more official when that pack arrives in your hands but for now it is still my unique privilege to announce that you, Minion #194, are now also to be known as ASCENDED MINION #32!
Congrats!
Got my sweet, sweet tokens! The matte ones are interesting. No sign yet of my special request⦠keeping my fingers crossed as it involved a tool that Steve doesnāt normally use⦠@ascendedminionproject
⦠? ⦠like a jackhammer or something?
Photoshop is based on a raster whereas illustrator is based on vector technique, Raster images can not be made larger without scarfing quality while vector images are scalable. ...And the mystery deepens...

Stuff to do with your Modern Masters 3 Liliana of the Veil: Customize your pure, dripping evil deck with alterations of slightly less evil things.
And as a bonus the price of the canvas has dropped, tanks to MM3 :)
Meekstone artist proof came!
I will look forward to getting this sketched on the back at some point when I can make an in-person appearance at a conventionā¦!
@ascendedminionproject @steveargyle
Awesome AP! So what is the story behind the number 30/30?
Liliana Vest
Hell YAY I would wear it and sleep in it too!

The shilloute tease from Steve Argyle 2016 by the numbers is revealed! š
āI am SO glad that Magic doesnāt zoom in on different parts of the same art for different cards.ā
@qaantar has posed an interesting opinion about some of the Warlord cards graced with Steve Argyleās illustrations. Ā Most (but maybe not all) of his pieces that have had this done to them were obviously created with that intention known beforehand. Ā I donāt know if that makes a difference for anybody or not, but itās good to know. Ā I recommend following all of the links in this post to learn about this complicated illustrating method thatās probably a lot harder than it seems.
A major example is Steveās second outing of freelance work ever, The Nine Kami.
Also for Legend of the Five Rings - Scorpion City and Kaiu Wall. Ā Those two pieces were turned into thirty cards for the game.
Tomb of Shinsei was cut in half to make two illustrations and is also mostly part of a third one as well.
Katana of Fire was subject to theĀ āzoom in onā technique to make a token created by that card.
Tattoos & Trinkets was also used for two images with an edited āzoomed inā approach that Steve obviously had up-front knowledge of.
The Next Wave was turned into six Warlord illustrations.
Thalaasa, Ocean Queen was turned into four Warlord cards.
Niobe, of course, is the illustration that sparked the comment above, and was turned into ten illustrations with edited zooming in a really complex arrangement of layers.
Hoard of Gold, Stacks of Gold, and Sandtigerās FangĀ (Steveās very last illustrated card in Warlord) are all just straight-upĀ āzoom inā jobs.
When I went through all of the L5R cards for one of the Game Shows I stumbled upon Scorpion City and spend way too much time there.Ā I really enjoy that art and how it was cut up.
Otherwise there are some examples that I am not a fan of because they are just chopped up bits rather than pieces telling a story.
Itās really good to know that they did it with Steveās knowledge beforehand! I did not expect that to be the caseā¦
Even so, Iām all for maximizing the opportunities for art in a set. Take Aether Revolt for example, imagine if the token art for Ragavan (the legendary monkey) was a zoom-crop of Kari Zevās art. I would not be a fan. Iām sure they would have changed the art to make the pose less bad for cropping, but still, it comes across (to me) as lazy and cheap on the part of the game developer.
It is quite the common practice. The publisher gets more mileage out of piece of art.
Outside of the contract agreements some will give the artist some extra cash at a reuse rate less which is less than the original rate. A lot don't.
Personally I am not found of it.
Iāll just assume this is Liliana, Chandra, and Thalia. Ā I got this in the mail today as an unexpected gift from an Ascended Minion!
Freakinā sweet! Ā Thank you!
THANK YOU MINION #248/18!

I picked up this alter of Liliana , Chandra and Elspeth from Steve at GP Chicago a couple of years ago.
I should have guessed that.  Liliana and Elspeth used to be⦠pretty close.

First time I have seen this photo...Thanks! š
I think this image needs more discussion⦠becauseā¦
Now I would be remiss in my duties if I didnāt try to find out something more about this project. Ā Hereās all I can find so far⦠and Iāll put a screen capture of this so we can see theĀ āNo Cover Availableā thing foreverā¦
From the comments inside this postā¦
ānorthwestsmith said: I suspect this is actually for a mistborn novel or novella, the costume and look on the woman are a dead ringer for Vin, one of the protagonists of the first trilogyā
Upon further review I have to agree. Ā Forgive me⦠Iām not a reader and donāt know this universe. Ā I defer to the fans of Mr. Sandersonās works. Ā There is a Mistborn book in the same site that also hasĀ āNo Cover Available.ā
Perhaps with the proper confirmations we can tag this artwork with things likeĀ āMistbornā andĀ āVinā andĀ āLost Metalā?
That October 2018 release date though⦠I sure donāt want to wait that longā¦
We have some more input:
poison-stripes said: //Minion 64 here says it canāt be the cover of Lost Metal. Reason being is that Vin is standing on one of the spires of Kredik Shaw. As for Lost Metal, last I checked Vin is deceased and what was left of Kredik Shaw went away after the Catacendre.
Well now⦠what we need is some suggestions as to what it could be then.  We know that the art has not yet been connected to a yet-to-be-released work.  We are confident that the character Vin is the subject.  Apparently the location is a place called Kredik Shaw.  Does anyone know a work that this information properly connects?
According to steveargyle.com it is : Vin, Mistborn
Go check it out and while you are there order yourself a print and/or a playmat.
