Byleth had been minding her business once her class began filing out, getting to work packing up books and papers so that she could move back to her room for the day, but a peculiar wrench had been thrown into her routine works.
She jolted back some when she heard the other’s voice, glancing up quickly and being faced with his sharp features. The first thing she noticed was Edelgard’s absence. Byleth didn’t consider herself a highly observant person, but there were a few key things that her scarce conversations with Hubert (and, by extension, Edelgard) had lead her to know.
One, Hubert rarely ever separated himself from the house leader. Two, Hubert wasn’t much for socializing with his classmates, or anyone outside of Edelgard, for that matter. Three, he was an intimidating boy. Byleth wasn’t scared of him, so to say, but there was definitely something beneath the surface that made him seem far from harmless. Something that made her hesitate to agree to his request, but, she did anyway. She was reckless.
Before long, it was just the two of them in the classroom, as the other students had gone off on their own business. Byleth shifted uneasily.
“…Of course. Is there something that I can help you with?”
Of course there was more beneath the surface; it was a dark pit, one spiraling down into chamber of secrets and knowledge he’d come across in his mere twenty years of living. He’d keep them under lock and key though, for there was no reason to go about telling his life story or information he’s gathered over the years on select individuals. Why would he leave himself in the open like that? Spilling others’ weaknesses were just the same as spilling your own...
“I have noticed a particular behavior of yours that I would like to address. One that you should consider mending.”
Despite the hair covering half his face, Hubert’s bright eyes were sharp and observant - even now, as he watched the careful movements of Byleth as she packed, paused, and shifted. She was uncomfortable, if that much wasn’t obvious. He’d pay no mind or yield none in his mannerisms; he’d grown far too familiar to the attitude & if she were truly uncomfortable, she would voice her concerns to him. Either way, it would be insight onto the type of character she was & how useful or not she’d be to him.
“You have taken a particular fondness to Lady Edelgard in your short time here - more so over other students in this class.”
Adjusting his gloves - an unconscious attempt to appear less threatening, perhaps - Hubert continued, unaware at how he might only look more intimidating that way.
“I would advise against developing any level of favoritism to her if you know what is good for you.”
