dominic looked over at the girl, realizing they were two of three people doing the circuit training in the gym. besides them, it was the instructor. each piece of equipment was to be utilized for a specific amount of time before moving to the next. "hey, yeah... we can pause," he said before taking a large gulp of water. while he loved to do cardio to get his blood racing and swore by a good workout at the start of the day, he also knew it wasn't for everyone. "you alright or should we slow it down?"
“ Thanks. ” she said, quickly reaching for her own water bottle to soothe her thirst. She didn’t work out regularly, finding that she’d much prefer spending the time having a delicious meal but understanding that if she wanted to stay healthy it was a must. As big a foodie as she was, Lupe didn’t want to end up overdosing on a danish. “ I don’t know. ” she replied genuinely. “ I want to slow down, but isn’t the purpose of working out to go all in? Am I failing if I don’t? ” She certainly understood the mental break that working out gave. The entire time spent there, Lupe hadn’t stopped to question or ponder over any of her problems. Nothing could center her brain beyond the ache and pain of the workout. “ You’re not even struggling! ”
while dominic worked out regularly, he also knew the amount of discipline it took to get to that point. it wasn't for everyone, but he commended everyone who tried and who continues to try, even if it hasn't worked the first or second time. he shook his head at her initial question, revealing a comforting grin, "the purpose of working out is to feel good about yourself." with another swig of water, he continued, "you're only failing when you don't show up for yourself. you're here today, aren't you? so you're good." he said assuredly, making sure that the woman was at least proud of herself for simply being there. it's never an easy thing to add a regimen to the day that makes your body sore, unless it's for pleasure. "yeah," he chuckled a bit, "i do this almost everyday. you'll get used to it." he grabbed one of the cooled eucalyptus towels from the small mini-fridge and handed it to her. "try this out. it'll cool you down. we got half an hour to go and if you finish, i'll treat you to a good lunch of your choice. deal?"

there was something about spaces like this that softened the world a little, bringing with it a sense of comfort. if left to his own devices, tomas could easily spend entire afternoons wandering the narrow aisles of gibson's, pulling familiar titles from the shelves just to feel the weight of them in his hands again. today was no different. by now, he'd accumulated a small stack of books now balanced carefully in the crook of one arm: several translations of the same classic novel he had taught more times than he could count, but the intrigue was in the variations of phrasing and therefore meaning, which fascinated him in ways he rarely tried to explain to anyone outside of the classroom.
he had just reached out to return one of them to the shelf (only because he recognized it as one he already owned) when his attention drifted sideways, where someone nearby was thumbing through a book. the cover caught his eye immediately, recognition sparking. he hesitated for a moment, clearly debating with himself, his fingers adjusting slightly around the books in his arms. then, with polite caution, he allowed himself to lean slightly closer. "i'm sorry, i don't mean to intrude but," his gaze flicked briefly to the book in their hands before returning to them, offering a shy smile, "i feel obligated to tell you that's a wonderful choice... one of those books you don't want to miss. you should get it."
outside of home, one of geovanna's favorite places was gibson's bookstore. being surrounded by literature, both old and new, felt like the closest she'd ever get to heaven on earth. arthur was by her side, behaving so well while they strolled through each aisle. she reached for a treat and told him to sit, ducking down to his level before feeding it to him. "good boy," her hands patted his head gently as she reached for the book on the bottom shelf... usually the forgotten ones, but classics in their own right. the redhead turned around, at first surprised, but then comforted by his presence. every heaven has its angels. "dr. estrada, if you only knew... your suggestions are the only ones i'd take," she smiled softly, "careful though, if you're here too much, people are going to start thinking you work here." and while she truly did appreciate the gesture, the book she was buying was supposed to be for the very man she was speaking to as a 'thank you' for the gift he got her. clearly already has it and read it. how would she get a literature professor a book they've never had? "what d'ya got there?" she questioned, eyeing his pile.

“ Listen, I never said I was a track star. ” Lupe said as she attempted to catch her breath. Sure, the run had felt good - for the first five to ten minutes - but she felt a burn in her calves that was sure to prevent her from walking for the following week. Seeing as she spent most of her days on her feet, and more commonly than not in heels, that thought alone was enough to make her want to cry. “ Can we like, maybe take a breather? Five minutes, promise, and then we can get back to it. ” Though even as she asked, Lupe's continued to push through the pain.

He tried to not be too obvious at first, hearing the argument of the neighbors through the walls was one thing, but sneaking glances through the curtains had to be against neighborhood code of conduct or something, no? He was itching to get right up against the window with them, to catch a glance at the mess that the neighbor had going on. “ Did the mistress jump out the window? ” he asked, eager for a response, but unwilling to sit back and wait patiently when the cries of the neighbor’s wife became more profound. “ Shit, move over. Let me see. ”
vivienne went over to brima's as a means to do a study for a doctor character she had in mind. there was nothing like on boots on the ground journalism. instead of sending one of her interns, she wanted to know exact answers, emotions, and procedures firsthand from him. their conversation turned from business to an enthralling moment of nosiness when what was happening outside his home became a little bit more than distracting. switching spots with ease, as he looked out the window, the brunette put her ear closer towards the noise. hearing what was happening was just as important as seeing it. their rapport has moved further than professional at this point. "dude, apparently the nanny was the one who called the wife home?" she whispered. "wait, does that mean the nanny knew the entire time?"

taymour still wasn't entirely used to standing here. ownership sat on his shoulders differently than any acting gig ever had. there was no script to rehearse, no director waiting just off camera to call the shots... it was just the shop, himself, and the steady thrill of realizing that this space was his now. all that to say: the nervousness was unexpected, but not unwelcome. he had stood on magnificent sets and faced interviewers determined to dissect his every word, yet none of it had ever made his pulse jump quite like this did. and it was electric.
he rested one hand lightly against the counter, letting the music settle into the room like a quiet conversation before he heard the door chime. he looked up instinctively, and for a brief second the instinct to perform flickered: the well-practiced public charm he had carried for years. but then something softer replaced it. "hey, welcome in," he offered a warm smile then, easy and genuine as he gave a small nod of greeting. "take your time looking around. if you need anything at all...” he gestured loosely toward the shelves surrounding them, “...i’m more than happy to help however i can.”
an off day. unheard of in vivienne's world, but only having one per quarter was a blessing in itself. she was in town, seemingly scouting locations and couldn't stop herself from thinking about her next project even if she wanted to. it wasn't until she passed by his shop that made her heart suddenly stir. she'd be back. and in no time, she was, with food in hand from their local favorite, ambiance.
"however you can, huh?" the brunette winked at her faux boyfriend before raising the takeout bags to eye level. exploring the store and cycling through the vinyls a bit, she finally found her way to the counter. "join me for lunch in the back, and maybe the papz can talk about how we still can't stay away from each other... what do they say about publicity?" it's all good, even when it's bad.
this was embarrassing for her. she was never the type to do something like this— always looking down on people who turn to such just to find love— but this was better than a dating app. at least that's what she told herself. she had shades on and her arms crossed over her chest as she paced back and forth, waiting. fariha told herself that she would only give him five minutes, and the very next second, she would disappear, seeing this as a sign to never do this again. but then she heard his voice, familiar, and yet she couldn't place it. she turned to face him. " that would be me, " she kept her shades on, hoping that from how big they were it would hide who she was to anyone who walked past. " i thought it was funny, " she teased before going silent. it was only a brief moment later before she spoke once more. " so, how does all this work? "
"it was funny!" he nodded, giving her a comforting grin; trying to make sure he felt at least a little safe in his presence. he knew this wasn't a normal way to find love, and usually people's last resort after realizing that dating apps had a low success rate. "i'm just not used to people bringing in mary shelley to these scenarios," he joked at the name chosen, "but if that's what you want to go by, then i'm not stopping you, frank." a small laugh released as the man reached his hand out towards the woman, "i'm dominic. consider me a friend, who simply wants to see you happy." his gaze moved from her towards the door of the building, "care to go in and i'll explain more? i promise it'll be less awkward than just standing around."
if her sister were ever to find out that belle had gone to the extent of meeting up with a self-proclaimed cupid in an effort to spice up her love life, she'd probably kill her. so top secret business required a secret code name. y'know, to save her ass if it all went south. "well, it was between that and hugh jass but i figured you'd heard that one a few times before." she said with a laugh, finally turning to meet dominic's gaze. definitely not what she was expecting. "you really a matchmaker or is this your way of picking up girls?"
dominic let out a laugh at the other possible fake name that the girl could've used and shook his head. she wasn't only funny, but beautiful, too. thinking that in no world would the person standing in front of him need help finding someone. trying to waive away the preconceived notions and assumptions, he responded, "i'm a traditional man— i usually like to meet someone in a normal way, like accidentally taking another person's order at the coffee shop." he chuckles at the romantic meetcute moment that he's seen too many times in movies for that to ever become reality. "i'm simply here to help people speed up the process; helping them find love with other clients who have the same goal." he reached his hand out to make a more formal introduction, "i'm dominic. happy to be of service to you, ms. jass," he quipped, leading her into the busy space. "can i get you a drink or do you prefer questioning me while sober?"

aria had arrived early, of course. she always did. old habits built from years of sessions starting precisely on the hour. but tonight, she had spent most of that extra time scolding herself: this wasn't a session, it wasn't clinical, it wasn't structured. it wasn't something that belonged in a neatly labeled file or under professional guidelines her parents would absolutely cite chapter and verse if they knew... her parents. god, even now at fifty, the thought of her parents made her jaw tighten faintly. the bellemore name was spoken with a certain quiet respect in professional circles thanks to generations of careful reputations. they would be moritified if they knew she had crossed the line between therapist and patient, client and friend. squandering the family name, her mother might say.
still, when geovanna walked in, aria's entire face softened, tensed shoulders falling. without thinking, she rose from her chair and stepped forward to greet her, arms wrapping around her in a warm hug. when they separated, aria gave a small and almost sheepish smile, gesturing toward the seat across from her before sitting again.
for just a moment, the familiar professional instinct flickered: the habit and urge of reading posture, analyzing tone... but she shut it down firmly. no, not tonight. tonight, they were simply two friends meeting for drinks. surely people could step across that line sometimes, couldn't they? after all, she and geovanna had really clicked, and aria considered her a great friend. one of her only friends. "i'm really glad you're here."
long days called for even longer nights. with the weekend finally coming around, the idea of going to the closest bar and getting a drink sounded amazing. though, others would say getting a drink with your therapist might call for a different type of session, geovanna found her time with aria to always be refreshing. the redhead didn't go to their meetings for someone to agree with her constantly, drug prescriptions, or to tell her things she already knew (as a psychology teacher). she went to the blonde for pure understanding of her grief and gained a friend out of it.
spotting aria from across the room, her lips spread into a smile "hey!" she eagerly walked towards the other woman, embracing her in a hug back. finally taking a seat across from aria, she responded, "oh, please. of course i'd come. the only thing better than the drinks are the company we have them with, right?" she waved over the server, "first round's on me! two margaritas!" as they scurried away with that order, geo turned back to the other woman, squinting her eyes like she was examining the blonde. "if you study me tonight, i promise i'm starting my own case on you."
belle circled the block a handful of times as she hummed and hawed over wether she really needed to impose, before finally pulling into her sister's driveway. no matter how big the problem or how small the inconvenience, belle always found herself in this exact spot— rushing to geovanna like she could fix anything in the world. and in all fairness, up until now she always had. with a deep breath and one last glance at herself in her rearview mirror, she reached for the duffle bag in the seat beside her. dragging her feet up the walkway as she searched her pockets for the set of keys she'd definitely forgotten when rushing out of her apartment. as if she wasn't feeling pathetic enough, she was left knock and wait. when the door finally opened, belle was quick to be the first to speak. "can i stay with you for a couple days?" never a question she really needed to ask, but suddenly she felt hyperaware of how consuming and exhausting she could be. even to geo. // @vib3sdontlie
geovanna was doing her typical mid-week things like checking papers, other assignments, and making sure the class schedule was on track, now that spring break was over. she brought the wine glass to her lips and took a sip, reading over a student's thesis about 'how heartbreak can cause chronic stress and mental impact.' before getting lost in the essay, the knock on the door took her attention away. the redhead was trying to rack her brain on if she was supposed to expect a guest today, and the answer, per usual, was no.
the opened door revealed someone who was always welcome, any time of the day, month, year for as long as geo lived, belle. hell, she was surprised that her sister didn't use the only other key she had. "entre, mon amour," geo said, opening the door wider and waving the other girl in. belle had her own en suite, complete with a walk-in closet that geo deliberately never touched so her sister could have her own space when she was over. "you hungry?" she yelled to the other room while the other girl dropped her bags off. fluffing the pillows on the couch, arthur perked up at the other auclair sister arriving. "i can order us a pizza and you can tell me why i deserved such a special visit and sleepover, yeah?"
dominic always made it a point to meet with first-time (potential) clients in person to gauge if there could be any chemistry with other people he was already working with. love wasn't just a feeling to him; it was a business. that came with trolls who find his job as a matchmaker to be a waste of time or others who have a vendetta against him because of their broken relationships. strangers or not, it all came with the territory, and sometimes, he had time for the nonsense. "are you supposed to be, ahem," he cleared his throat for dramatic effect as he read the name from his work email, "frank n. stein? we gotta get more creative, don't you think?"

BIOGRAPHY
his father knew from the moment he met his mom, all those years ago, that was the person he was meant to be with. the love story of tristan harper and chloe miller was a very simple one. the stars couldn't align for them any better: tristan was a chef at the local pizza shop that chloe frequented while she was in college. multiple tries of pursuing the lady who would order a veggie slice with a side ceasar salad, and finally getting the "date" when they were stuck in the restaurant during a snowstorm. while not in the most ideal situation, tristan talked about how he'd own the shop one day... had a whole future planned. all he was missing was her, and he'd wait. chloe, of course, laughed and talked about how her future included becoming the biggest lawyer in the city. they dreamt up their time into reality. she was soon accepted into law school, and that pizza shop he worked at had the label harper's before he knew it. his goals thereafter? marry the love of his life, pay her tuition, and create a family. safe to say... it was a clear success.
it's undeniable when you meet dominic that he was raised with love and around it all the time. his parents loved their only child to death. they were the ideal role models when it came to being an individual and finding a counterpart. he's always been very strict about protecting his heart. maybe letting it falter from time to time... but he always bounced back effortlessly. heartbreak never phased him for more than a few months, because he knew the right one would come along (eventually). the ache of parting is the quiet proof that i've known joy, big enough to miss.
dom has carried that mindset into his career of being a matchmaker. love to him isn't just a feeling — it's a business. he's spent most of his adult life being cupid, starting off with friends first and then, when he realized he was actually good at it, came the strangers looking for love, too. with a very high success rate, he continues to believe in love. a lover boy through and through. carries his own heart on his sleeve, but wants love for others first and foremost. diligently listens to clients and understands their wants and needs in a soulmate, while always on the search for his own.

BIOGRAPHY
being an only child was a pure blessing for vivienne. she got to reap all the benefits of her father, elijah ackley, being an award-winning cinematographer, and mother, astrid murphy, of being an oscar-winning actress. it was very clear that she'd be a star in her own right once she was old enough and followed in the footsteps of her parents with working in entertainment. being in front of the camera for her was effortless. she was labeled the "new girl on the block" and "breakout star" almost immediately. but critics said that was only because she was a nepo baby, shadowing her mother's career.
that made viv even hungrier to make a name for herself. changing her surname to 'jupiter'. she went to film school at usc, taking in all the knowledge she could from professors of the arts, and creating her own lane, as a director; skyrocketing to fame on her own accord. working hard for all the accolades, the golden globes, the gotham awards, the oscar nominations... not for the validation, but the very proof that she could do all that without her parents' names tied to her projects.
one of the people in her writers' room introduced her to tomas estrada, a literature professor, who knew a good story just by the very first sentence, moved by the classics, and could quote poetry like he wrote it himself. it was no wonder they got along — the joy they brought each other with shared narratives, books, and valuable thoughts was something that could not quite be replicated with another lover. their romance was the first of a few tragedies in her own story. time and lack of intimacy pulled them apart. while she got the attention from the general public, fans, and studios alike, tom's light was the only thing she wanted to shine on her. almost polar opposites by the end of their relationship, which resulted in a divorce. sure, she had an upward trajectory of stardom and flashing lights, but he always preferred the quiet life of teaching the future generation and didn't necessarily care for the fame.
with the island being a major spot to film, it made sense to move. making movies, film premieres, booking interviews, and sitting in on auditions could all be done with a few rides away. and who knows if it was pure luck or pure hate from the gods that she chose the same town that her ex-husband just so happened to live at? oh, and with her current [fake] boyfriend around, who's to say this all wasn't a coup to make him jealous? or was it really to bring in an audience for her next film? that's for you to find out and her to know. she'd do anything to get what she wants. and who she wants.
