elain archeron is for the girls who want to feel safe and loved. for the girls who live by the lyrics “never be so kind you forget to be clever / never be so clever you forget to be kind.” for the ones who have always had their kindness mistaken for weakness. for the ones who are so much more than others may think or realize, but know that they have nothing to prove and don’t care for the approval of others. elain is for the girls who dream of a cozy life with the person they adore, for the ones who want a family and want to settle down. for the ones who long for comfort and ease of living because they know what it is like to endure hardship. for the ones who will always put their loved ones first, but will not allow themselves to become a doormat. for the ones who love the earth and appreciate its beauty. for the ones who feel like they come to life when they feel the first warming touches of spring weather. for the ones who have been underestimated their entire lives all because of a box others have put them into.

One of the saddest things to me about all the Elain hate is not that it tears her character down, but that it also tears down all the women who see themselves within her character too. 

Women who are softer and more feminine, women who are polite and kind and use manners as a weapon, women who have more traditionally feminine hobbies and interests. The bakers and the gardeners and the girls who like to wear pretty dresses and tend their gardens and bake beautiful cakes for their loved ones. Women who aren’t the typical “sword-swinging girl boss”, who are not loud with their struggles, women who like to observe and use their brains rather than their brawn.

We are not useless. We are not weak. We are not boring. We are not “braindead gardeners” or “pretty, mindless bakers” who have to become villains to have worth. We are strong, we are dreamers, we forge our own way through the world, make our own choices, and determine our own fates. We are brave and kind and fiercely loyal, and we are every bit the warrior and badass as all the Feyres and Nestas out there. 

We are the Elain Archerons of the world and there is a different strength, a better strength, within us that will never be dimmed. ❤

Elain looked up at Azriel, their eyes meeting, his hand still lingering on the hilt of the blade.

I saw the painting in my mind: the lovely fawn, blooming spring vibrant behind her. Standing before Death, shadows and terrors lurking over his shoulder. Light and dark, the space between their bodies a blend of the two. The only bridge of connection… that knife.

So he only slept when his body gave out, and even then only for a few hours.
