Fae was seriously bored. She’d began walking with no actual intention of getting anywhere. It was weird; she wasn’t used to having so much time on her hands. Usually, she was double booked or, more recently, doing less than savory things at some club. Instead, she somehow found herself staring down some animals at a pet store. She’d never had time to even consider having one, & somehow the thought made her feel… strangely sad. A laugh drew her out of her thoughts, & she startled slightly before relaxing. “Dunno,” she remarked, shrugging. “I guess, like, choose whichever one calls to you?” The suggestion felt stupid, but she didn’t really think telling a stranger to consider logistics & pointing out how unrealistic pets were would be helpful. So, she bit her tongue, keeping things surface level.

Vick stood there, the idea of having pets was all she ever wanted but for some strange reason she had never had one so now was the time. She stood there looking at their cujte faces she was sure that this was going to be the hardest decision for her. As she ran a hand htrough her hair she heard the girls voice and looked over at her and shrugged “Well it’s very hard they’re all too cute. But I guess I need to look more at them to figure this out. Are you looking for a cute pet right now?”

“Have you used anyone in town for your book? Like as inspiration for a character or something?” Freddie asked, curious now. They had plenty of interesting inhabitants of Saltlight - he only had to think of working at the garage to bring to mind a few people who seemed destined to have books written about them, or movies made about their lives. He took another bite of his food as he thought over Victoria’s question. “Not anything… particularly interesting,” he answered, then smiled. “Mostly work, you know me. And I’ve, uh, started dating someone.”

Vick sat there and took a bit of her food before looking at him laughing a little, “Well that would be telling and spoil the surprise, but there maybe a few people here who inspired my story.”She stated looking at him for a moment, writing was her favourite thing and when inspiration struck she had to take it. As she sat there she looked over at him, “Well work does always get in the way.” Hearign his next words she smiled, things didn’t work romantically for them and that was fine, she was happy for him, “Well that is amazing news, congratulations, who’s the lucky girl?”

She loved her family, but raising a child had never been in Marcia’s plans, let alone four of them all at once. Then again, her parents hadn’t exactly planned on leaving them, so the eldest Barros was trying her best to set aside any dreams she’d had for her own future in order to focus on the future of each of her siblings. Tomas, on the other hand, didn’t seem to care much how much stress he was causing her, just wandering around the coffee shop aiming those big, brown eyes at people, charming them out of their baked goods and Marcia groaned as she stood to catch him. “Yours is the third muffin he’s stolen, I don’t know how he keeps unbuckling his seat!” The brunette hastily explained, although Tomas merely grinned at the blonde, muffin grasped in pudgy fingers. “He’s uh, he’s two I think,” It dawned on her, in a painful moment of clarity, how sad it was that she didn’t remember exactly how old her baby brother was, since she’d been gone when he was born. “Are you sure I can’t get you another muffin? Or a coffee, since it looks like you need the fuel?”

Vick was an only child and didn’t have any neices or nephews or baby cousins or any kids of her own so she never really got to be around the cuteness of kids so to her it was never a big deal. She lookede over at the girl for a brief moment as she ran a hand through her hair looking at the girl and laughed a little, “Well he is jst a very smart boy.” She said looking at the small boy in front of her. She looked over at the girl and nodded, “Well he’s at the terrible twos stage, must be a handful but he is a little cutie.” She smiled before looking over at her, “IF you are sure, I would happily take a coffee.”

“Oh, you know,” Freddie replied, his gaze drifting towards the window again. “Just people-watching. Who’s that person, what are they doing in Saltlight, imagine what their life is like. It’s a good way to pass the time here,” he explained. Taking another bite of his sandwich, he nodded slowly at her words as he chewed and swallowed before replying. “I’ve been okay. How’s the writing going? Working on anything in particular? I remember last time, you were going for a novel.” He smiled admirably at her - it seemed such a mammoth task to him, never having been particularly academic, and it warranted a great deal of respect from him.

Vick couldn’t help but laugh, the idea of him people watching made her laugh because she was the same, “You’re a people watcher too? I can’t believe that, I love to people watch. Really it makes good use for stories.” She laughed a little looking over at him and nodded, “Well I am trying to write the middle of my book, the first part is done but coming up with a good twist to the story.” She stated looking over at he guy for a moment, “APart from people watching have you been up to anything interesting?”

Summer lived on her own and she had been dying to get a pet ever since she signed her first lease. She had grown up with practically a zoo as a child - her parents even once owned a pet llama - so the quiet house was not the aesthetic for her. She had been debating between a cat and a dog because they both had their upsides; cats were independent and didn’t necessarily mind if you left them alone for a few days….but dogs were so friendly and sweet and always greeted you like you had been gone for centuries. Maybe finding one in the pet shop and seeing their furry little face would break the debate in her mind. She noticed she wasn’t alone in her adventure today and after giving the stranger a big smile, nodded her head. “I agree! Maybe between you and I, we can adopt them all and just have one big puppy house.”

Vick stood there, these dogs were pulling at her heart and the thought of leaving them behind was breaking her heart. She looked over at the girl and was pleased to know she didn’t get called a weirdo. She loved them all already, “Oh gosh could you imagine? That sounds like a really cute idea but a lot of hard work but I also just can ‘t imagine leaving any of them behind.” She laughed a little before looking at her, “Which one is taking your eye? Are you planning on getting one today?”

Living alone had it’s benefits. When Freddie didn’t feel the desire to cook, he could simply take himself out to anywhere - within reason - to eat, and order whatever took his fancy. He had long since gotten over the anxiety of eating out alone, and even had his favourite of the booths at the Sunnyside Diner. Here, he had been positioned with a bowl of tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich, alternating between eating and people-watching through the plate glass window, in a world of his own. He jumped at Victoria’s unexpected voice, then laughed at himself. “Hey! Sorry, I drifted off there,” he apologised, then gestured to the other side of the booth. “Not at all. Sit down, I feel like it’s been a while.” Freddie replied, sitting up a little straighter now that he had company.

Vick stood there smiling, social situations weren’t something she was used to but she knew that if she didn’t want to feel lonely she needed to make the effort to make friends. Luckily she already had a friend in Freddie and it was nice. As she stood there she smiled, “What got you lost in thought?” She asked curiously as she took a seat and smiled, “Thanks, yeah it has been, I’ve been....well busy.” She said, when she really hadn’t been, she had been working or writing or reading but not really doing much at all. “How have you been?”

Vick had been thinking of getting a puppy for quite sometime, she wanted a companion, living alone and being single was great but could get lonely at times that having her own dog would be cute. She decided to go to Paws pet store and have a look at the dogs and see if there was one she loved. She didn’t realise the problem would be that once she was there they would all be too cute. As she looked around she looked at the person standing next to her, “How do you possibly choose?” She asked laughing a little as she was eyeing up the puppies. She had never had a dog before but she had always wanted one. “Like they are all so adorable.”

Victoria was taking herself out for food, she needed to give herself some fuel and taking herself to sunny side diner felt like a good idea and a good plan for her. She took her book she was currently reading with her and decided it was going to be a relaxing dinner. As she walked in she scanned around the place before spotting Freddie at the other end of the diner. She decided to order her food then go over. Her and Freddie went on a few dates until theyh both realised they were better off as friends. She ordered her food and once it was ready, she headed over to Freddies table, “Well hello stranger anyone sitting with you?”

marcia had gone from working at concert venues & staying up until all hours to spending her days managing a business and chasing down a two year old- her head was still reeling from the change, which was how her youngest brother managed to escape her attention and take off across the coffee shop, managing to swipe a piece of muffin from a stranger’s plate before marcia even realized he was gone. “shit, i’m sorry, i swear, i feed him,” she hastily apologized after scooping up the little boy, who looked rather pleased with himself with muffins around his mouth. “can i buy you another muffin?”

Vick sat there at the coffee shop, she was writing down ideas for her book, she really wanted to get into writing it to publish it one day and since she had a coupl of hours free she knew coming to the coffee shop after her shift was the right idea. As she sat there writing notes about to get to her muffin, she noticed it being taken by small hands she looked down at the small boy, before seeing someone come after him and she couldn’t help but laugh, if it had been someone old enough to know better she wouldn’t be happy but he wa ssmall so she didn ‘t mind too much, “It’s okay, he obviously got excited for something sweet.” She giggled, “No there’s no need honestly, but thank you for the offer. It looks like he’s enjoying it though, how old is he?”

OPEN STARTER : growing pains.

growing pains. that’s what they were called. supposedly, it took you four years to move into a place you’d never lived in before. and sure, she was from the carolinas, so it only felt appropriate that she’d come and make her home here. but frankly? it hasn’t been easy. getting her studio set up, getting it registered as a business, trying to find the drive to cook more than once a week ( she was a mcdonald’s VIP ) … all of it was hard for someone so sweet, someone so young.

that’s why she’s found here, in a drugstore picking up pain medication. the line for the pharmacy is too long, but it’s the only place in town she can get everything all in one go. burn cream, a compression sleeve, pain meds… she hadn’t expected the seasalt air to irritate her skin so much. ( she’s grateful for the hoodie she’s wearing. ) in line, she’s looking at… what is that, a new multivitamin, and her shopping basket connects with something else as she steps forward, brown eyes widening. “ ——— ohmygod, i am so sorry ! ”

Vick was just picking up some essentials thar she had ran out of, for some reason there was such a long queue in the pharmacy she had gone to, to be honest, she understood why it had literally everything you could need. She stood there in the queue just waiting to pay, she was listening to an audio book, that was what she was used to, if she was out it was audio book or podcast over music. She stood there as she felt someones basket on hers and she looked round as she paused her book before looking at the girl whose basket was attached to hers. She smiled shaking her head, “Not to worry, honestly, it’s so busy in here this was bound to happen to someone. Are you okay though?”
