Both Pictures on this post are works from Slasky. He is an established painter, photographer, draftsman artist, from Italy. He was fascinated by Caravaggio's The Conversion of San Paolo as a child and dedicated himself to a life of painting, merging classical works of art with contemporary digital art techniques in neo urban classic style. He bridges tradition and modernism, bringing protagonists of the original works of art into contemporary social and artistic environments.
I think Slasky bring a new eye to traditional painting, modernizing it and making it interesting nowadays. One of my favourite painting is The Queen Elizabeth II portrait. By adding the tattoos on her neck and face, a piercing on her cheek, and makeup with red lipstick, he is making her look like a common person for me and not the Queen of Britain. She is just a regular girl, who decides to dress fancy with a crown to going out and have fun. I like how his paintings make me create a background history for the person in the paint.
Some of the Queen's tattoos are very interesting to me, I think it was a nice touch that one of them has her name and her husband name, as the Queen is well known for not be a sentimental person and another one where we can read "Diamonds are forever," which in her case is more than just popular saying, but totally true with this huge crown on her head.
I also like Marie Antoinette paint with the Venetian blind in front of her. It makes me think again about whats the history of this woman and what she is doing there. Is she just observing? Is she waiting for someone? Or maybe, she is hiding from the Revolution.
