Ironhide couldnât help but shake his head. Mirage was more deserving of a home than he realized, certainly more than Ironhide, himself. How he didnât see it was⊠well, it probably had to do with Ironhideâs own actions, and it was that guilt that led him to make the offer. He would offer and offer until heâd paid back what he owed.Â
And it seemed that Mirage was open to receive him.Â
There was a second where Ironhide could say nothing, only keep from grinning like mad when Mirage seemed to tentatively accept his offer. âNo, no,â Ironhide shook his head, âI wouldnât have asked if I didnât mean it, Mirage. I have the space.â
âAh. Well, then I would be honored to accept your offer, Ironhide.â And he meant every word, lifting his drink to the other mech, âTo your kindness.â
Ironhide...being kind. Even with their past interactions, the notion wasnât so farfetched. He reiterated that yes, Ironhide never displayed a pleasure for being cruel, but at the same time, it hadnât been often- if at all, that he went out of his way for the comfort of another.
âItâs a good look for you.â Because perhaps peace does change everyone after all.
heyo ! ! !  do you like transformers ??  roleplay a tf character  ??  have a transformers verse  ??  well then fuckers  ,  like this post and youâll be sent a link via IMs to join .  canon characters and ocs from all continuities are welcome  ! ! !
oldrustredâ:
A frustrated grimace grew across Ironhideâs face and his engine rumbled unpleasantly. ââM fine, Mirage, itâs justâŠâ His optics rolled âtill he looked at the ceiling, finding his words again, âI heard you were couch surfinâ, anâ thatâs no way for a bot tâlive. You oughtâa have a home.â Somewhere that he could go back to whenever he needed, without worrying about overstaying his welcome.Â
If part of it was the resurgence of Ironhideâs guilt, well, then it fell in line with his ideals anyway. He wasnât pulling all of this out of his aftâ heâd known about Mirageâs living arrangements for a while now, and he couldnât help but be concerned.Â
âIf Iâm over-stepping let me know, but⊠Well, I already said it.â
You oughtâa have a home...
Were Mirage a lesser mech, that phrase alone would have left him clutching at his chest with pure, spark crushing emotion. It was just so...kind. Instead he shook his head, wishing to put Ironhide at ease.
âNot at all, Ironhide, no! It is a very generous offer, more than I deserve.â He paused, at war with himself over what to do next. Before, in his old life, Mirage had scoffed at the idea of accepting charity. He had never needed it, written it off completely. Now, however...
âI... I trust I wouldnât be imposing on you?â
oldrustredâ:
It was a good thing Mirage was wise to his game, or Ironhide may never have managed to ask. He wouldâve found some way to worm out of itâ something came up, or he was reminiscing about his new couch, or something. It was good, then, that Mirage had picked up what he was putting down.Â
   ⊠Or was it?
What if he was just setting himself up for embarrassment? Of course Mirage wouldnât want to move into his apartment, what was he thinking? Ironhide pressed his lips tightly together, and he said, âYeah. I am. âF you need one.â
Well, Iâll be damned- the first thought that came to Mirageâs mind. The second, one that he would prefer to voice:
âIs everything alright, Ironhide? Your concern is appreciated, but I have to admit, this is unexpected of you.â
Mirage had to wonder if this wasnât just an offer of accommodations, but perhaps...
Could it be that Ironhide was simply lonely? An intriguing if not depressing notion, but one that seemed most likely.
                            WHAT. IS. NEXT?
oldrustredâ:
It was worrying to consider, but Ironhide supposed that the supplied alternative was worse. Even impermanent residence was better than no residence at all. Ironhideâs expression slackened until he thought that his face might give less awayâ he wasnât used to doing that, heâd never needed to âand he picked up his drink before putting it back down without taking a sip.Â
âIâm protecting people and keepinâ the peace.â Ironhide sounded a bit more like an attempt at assurance than a defense of his actions; he wanted Mirage to believe him more than he wanted to distance himself from Starscream.Â
Well, he wanted to do that, too, but it took a back seat at present. âBetter Iâm in charge than him.â There it was. More in character, that.Â
You know, before he could do something completely out of character.Â
The careful schooling of his facial features came in handy when next he spoke. âIâve got the same arrangements âs everyone else. Simple apartment, minimum furnishings. No roommate.â Optics rose from the tabletop to Mirageâs face.
âThat we can agree on, my dear, most assuredly,â Mirage concurred with a nod, âBetter you than him.â
Now in retrospect, Mirage should have known that something was afoot. Ironhide was not a cruel person, quite the contrary in fact- despite past...miscommunications. Even so, his previous inquiries as to the status of his lodgings had been rather suspicious.
As Ironhideâs optics rose, as did Mirageâs brow. Abandoning all pretext of casual conversation, he sits up straight, optics meeting Ironhideâs in a level stare.
âYouâre offering me a place to stay.â It wasnât a question.
oldrustredâ:
He very decidedly didnât flinch, and, in fact, his optics narrowed suspiciously while Mirage continued. It didnât seem malicious, but Ironhide could only understand that for having worked alongside Mirage for years, and he couldnât say he was without doubts. Anybody could misunderstand anything if it were buried under enough pomp.Â
He was talking about the bar. More about down time, Ironhide supposed. âWe got more people now. I can stand to take a night off.â He tried not to sound too brisk.Â
Finally Mirage answered his question. It wasnât the answer that he quite expected, but he wasnât imagining Mirage in anything quite so far in the past as a luxury Towers suite. That kind of time was behind them, at least while they rebuilt and even the most affluent had no more than a few hundred shanix to spare. Ironhide had expected some scrap about a small apartment in the thick of the city, not the drifting that Mirage was suggesting. His brow furrowed behind the shield of his helm and Ironhide frowned across the table. âNowhere of your own?â He asked.
âFor now, no. Iâm not sleeping outside, mind, but nothing permanent.â He shifted to lounge casually, eyeing Ironhide closely, rather curious as to where this was going.
âAfter all,â Mirage continued, âI have not been on Cybertron long and have limited means. Surely you realize there isnât much need for professionals in espionage these days?â However, he shrugged, âAt least not officially and I absolutely refuse to do Starscreamâs dirty work... I honestly donât know how you can stand it.â
He waved his hand as to dismiss any distasteful thoughts, âBut what about you? Surely your new position has gifted you suitable appointments?â
oldrustredâ:
Ironhide blinked once, his mouth only just shut with how slack his jaw suddenly seemed to be. He shook his head and jabbed a defensive finger in the other botâs direction. âYou and I both know I care about our bots.âÂ
âMm,â well, who could find fault with that, Mirage wondered. Certainly not I. Taking a short sip of his drink, Mirage regarded Ironhide with a steady gaze, âYour loyalty is as abundantly clear as it ever was, my dear.â
âThough...â He gestured lazily at their surroundings, Maccadams was filled to bursting as per usual, âPeace surely allows you some lapse in diligence?â
âBut to answer your question: yes and no. I have a place to rest my head for now, but it seems the life of a transient will be my prerogative until further notice.âÂ
Not that Mirage minded, and truly he didnât. He could only imagine what Ironhide would think of him- probably certain that he would have gone crawling back to some high rise with vast city views and a plush berth with his nose in the air. Quite laughable really.
oldrustredâ:
@altusxdelusoris
He cast his optics down to his datapad, lip curling. More lists. It was much easier when he could just punch his duties done. The datapad was pushed aside over the tabletop, and he tipped his head back âtill it lay against the back of the booth. âAnâ you? Youâve got a place, right?â
âOh...? Is this you being concerned, Ironhide?âÂ
Mirage couldnât help but to smirk, though he was far more flabbergasted than he cared to let on.  âShould I be flattered?âÂ

Dream: Three wishes they have.
âHmm, three wishesâŠÂ I think perhaps that I would like to open another small establishment on Cybertron. My second wishâŠâ
Mirage is quiet for a moment, considering his options, âI would like for the rest of the Crew to make it back safely, goodness knows theyâll need all the luck they can get. And for my last wish, as completely self-serving as my first: I would like-â
He cuts off, a frown pulling at his lips.  âWhy donât we just settle for two wishes?â

«It may shock and amaze you to find out that I step back from my work several hours every day.»
Prowl was completely positive that Mirage was trying to subtly diss the name of the establishment. He just wasnât sure how. Was he using sarcasm to say the name was completely un-noteworthy, or was he using understatement to express that the name was so notable as to be weird? He didnât spend nearly enough time in bars to figure out for himself how noteworthy names like âSmilesâ were supposed to be.
«I say we both head there, and if we cross paths on the way, we can go the rest of the way together.» No need to deliberately meet up while trying to reach a meeting up place.
::And you would be correct. It certainly does shock and amaze me that you allow yourself the courtesy.::
While his retort was mostly in jest, Mirage could at least appreciate the honesty in Prowlâs attempts to not be such a workaholic.
::Ah, yes I agree. Far more practical that way.::

Though somewhat out of place on Sideswipeâs faceplates for its simple rarity, a sneer was a quite natural part of Sunstreakerâs visage, and one once again found its way onto the warriorâs flawlessly beautiful features in response to Mirageâs bit of commentary on his twins. The gilded brother only made partial effort to hide his growl behind his cube. âIf they fight for himâŠâ he trailed off, unspoken meaning falling into place in the silence his vocalizer shifted into.
If they fought on the Primeâs side, in the name of his cause, they were as good as groveling at his pedes as far as the pair of Decepticons was concerned. Whether their alternates acknowledged it themselves was entirely irrelevant - of course an Autobot would have been blind to their shame and humiliation, they simply could not be expected to admit to it.
The frontliner moved on from that topic with a grunt. âSome universes collapse if theyâre intervened with in any way, others are merely altered, and some never change but instead split into an endless amount of alternate timelines. Ours belongs to the latter category,â and that meant that the twins could indeed go about their business in the multiverse without much care, safe in the knowledge that their universe would still be waiting for them when they were ready to go back.
Barring an incident such as eaten by Unicron, of course. âBut we canât know how yours would react,â he concluded with a shrug of indifference. The chances that an universe would take so poorly to altering forces from the multiverse that it would entirely implode were⊠Well, truly, it was difficult to say how high they were. The very nature of those planes of existence disappearing upon an event they disagreed with made it rather difficult to track how often it happened - survivors or observers of such tragedies were rare. Perhaps it wasnât common, or perhaps it was entirely common, only with no one left to give the warning of how common it was. It could be a truly constant risk they all lived with.
But the multiverse, wasnât it all about the endless danger and risk that came bundled with the more positive aspects of its infinity? Anyone who thus played with it, or in it, had to accept the possibility of unforeseen consequences, both personal and⊠Those of a grander scale. They knew all about the personal ones - wasnât it so, Sideswipe? - but so far, had been fortunate enough to have largely escaped becoming the causes or witnesses of greater events.
Sideswipe nodded in firm agreement to Sunstreakerâs sentiment. âSame difference,â he continued where the golden twin trailed off, made just as grouchy as his brother by the topic. Sideswipeâs engine revved unhappily, but really, they were more or less used to their alternates being pathetic aft kissers, and more or less soft-sparked to boot.
They, though? They didnât kiss even Megatronâs aft before the mech had beaten them bloody and left them with no other choice, and they definitely werenât soft-sparked.
They werenât weak.
They wouldnât have made very good Decepticons if they were, anyway.
âKinda wish Iâd manage to make a universe destroy itself sometime. Now that would look awesome on my rĂ©sumĂ©~â He was pretty sure the league of figures that destroyed whole entire universes held some pretty darn powerful people. Like Unicron, for starters.
If he managed to get counted among them? Frag. Heâd be a ready legend!
At least they could see if theyâd inadvertently destroy Mirageâs universe by talking about it or by imparting some information upon him that would lead to its destruction further down the line, or⊠Really, what even causes some universes to take so much offense they just decided that welp, guess Iâm not gonna exist anymore if these puny bastards canât respect the dimensional boundaries?
Cuddling the spy a little more comfortable- and purring happily in the process- Sideswipe was swift to at least give the bare bone basics on their universe. âOur Cybertronâs a big ole pile of rubble! Totally dead. The energy crisis that led to the war kinda did that, anâ the war didnât, like, help matters.
âAnâ yeah, thereâs war! Megatron formed the âCons to fight the caste system anâ the oppression of the high castes, but there was a bunch of mecha who werenât too happy about that, anâ under Optimusâ leadership they organized into the Autobots, after the Matrix chose him as Prime. There was a whole lot of fighting, Decepticons chased the Autobots into central Iacon, anâ eventually things got so tight that most of the remaining Autobots left on the Ark to look for resources anâ whatnot. Megatron pursued âem, anâ both ships crashed on Earth after a space bridge accident, anâ âen we spent four million years in stasis on that mudball, anâ after we woke up we fought some more.â Sideswipe shrugged in the spell of quiet in his monologue. âThatâs about the point where we discovered the multiverse, anâ a little after that we left our universe anâ switched factions.â There. The shorthand version of their universeâs recent history. They really didnât know about the state of the place now, seeing how they hadnât visited it even shortly in several years, but⊠Yeah. Last they knew the fighting was still ongoing.
âOur planâs to go back anâ all, but thereâs so much to seeân experience in the multiverse. Been kinda too busy to throw ourselves into the war good and proper again.â
And made some mistakes along the way, yeah yeah. Shaddup, bro. Theyâre not bringing that up.
âSo! What about yours?â
Mirageâs mouth formed a tight, thin line as he listened in on Sideswipeâs rather chillingly cheerful tale of their dearly departed Cybertron. Â The crawling sensation of discomfort spreading over his circuitry was nearly enough to make him take another gulp of likely toxic sludge if only to feel something else.
Though he supposed that what he had yet to tell Sunstreaker and Sideswipe would one way or the other change the mood.
âHmm, well⊠ I believe I should start by regretfully informing you that the Autobots won the war on âmyâ Cybertron.  Megatron now stands with us- against everyoneâs better judgement.â
He scoffed, tapping a graceful finger against the filthy glass, âIt truly seems that Optimus is in fact the softest of us all- wears his heart on his sleeve, as the humans say.  As if Megatron would have shown him the same compassionâŠâ
And against his own better judgement, he suffered another drink- though by this time his mouth had numbed enough that the second go wasnât nearly as horrid.
âUgh.  Should you wish to knowâŠone of the last times I saw him, he was reciting poetry at my bar.  It was certainlyâŠah, one of my more stranger experiences to witness.â
As an afterthought, âAside from Starscream currently serving as acting ruler of Cybertron, of course.â
âSo, you come here often?â
âOften enough, should the mood strike me. Though forgive me for saying but, this hardly seems your manner of âscene,â if I may borrow Jazzâs turn of phrase.â
spicyspoilers:
âI- no- um. Yeah! But I- donât worry, I want to!âÂ
And he did, thatâs why only one cube. He knew he was a lightweight, so itâd be irresponsible to have more than one. But a single cube wouldnât hurt aside from the pleasant, bubbly feeling Hot Rod would get afterward!Â
Besides, it looked like making himself absolutely slagged with drink wouldnât make Mirage very happy either, so why not just enjoy the bubbly feeling?Â
Mirageâs stern look fell away to form a relieved smile, âThen by all means, Hot Rod. I do apologize for keeping you- but I hope you can understand my concern.â

::Excuse my surprise at discovering that you can take a step back from your work. Honestly Prowl dear, it is clear that you could use a good drink.::
::Well, that is a...certainly noteworthy name for an establishment. Shall I meet you there or should I come to you and we can go together?::
