Being a lieutenant, Riley has been responsible for the men under his Command on and off the field. Has seen men be more ornery than a bloody mule when it came to having injuries looked at by the doc. Whether it be because they thought they were hard enough to walk wounded, or because they were hard enough to walk wounded. Every excuse, he’s heard - partly because at times, he himself was giving them.

But Walker just looks utterly shattered.

“So long as you don’t pass out on my bloody watch, I’ll take your word for it.” Reaching down, Riley fetches another bottle from the carton by his feet - holding it out to the American. “But helping, eh? MacTavish said we were moving in on a hot spot in South America. Sure it’s got nothing to do with your lads?”

Hesh turned his attention toward the pack before shaking his head, barely able to mumble out some, “No thanks.” If anything, water would be nice. Actually, to add, he realized he was starving. Come to think of it, he hasn’t eaten much today, besides the portion of food Merrick insisted Hesh to eat. ‘You’ll need your strength, Hesh. Eat up,’ Merrick said.

Must have something to do with Rorke. His brother has been missing for over two years now, after being dragged away on that shore from Hesh’s grasp, and tailing the 141 was the best shot they have at finding Logan. He had this gut feeling that Logan was close. Hesh is nowhere near religious, yet he’s been praying to God, asking him to spare Logan. He could do whatever he wishes to Rorke, but not his brother...

“It’s our best lead to the Federation. With you guys on our side, we all kill two birds with one stone.” Hesh paused, then let out a sigh as if he lost some big contest. He let his ego down. “Can you please pop my shoulder back in place?”

He shrugged, “All wounds heal. I’ll be fine.” Of course, it was always an understatement, which he would always shrug off because he refused to admit the truth. It stung, really, but it’s ‘small’ and ‘it’s nothing compared to so and so’s.’ Just a ‘scratch,’ as he would call it, so why bother getting it patched up? He could fix it himself, but he wasn’t quite sure about Riley here. Telling him he looked terrible was an understatement. He looked like shit, as if he had crawled out of hell himself with the devil at his heels.

With a sigh, the older Walker brother took the seat across the Lieutenant. “Some loose ends, I guess. Seemed like you guys needed a little help out there.”

‘Today’s my birthday?’

Out of all the birthdays he’s had and she’s never had a single one. At this point, he really doesn’t care about his birthday. He’s had so much that it seemed to be a broken record stuck on a loop by now; it was the same every year in his opinion. He would be fine with just a simple ‘Happy Birthday, Hesh.’ He’d be fine if everyone just went on with their day after the elephant in the room has been addressed. He doesn’t need anything big, he’s completely content with everything the way it is.

But for her? Nothing. It was hard to take in. Never had there been a time in all the years War has been alive where someone held something like this for her. She never got to experience the thrill it was to see what others got her as a kid, or to be surrounded by friends and family for a day specially dedicated to her.

“Well... It’s never too late to pick a day, you know...? If I knew, I wouldn’t hesitate to tell you...” He trailed off.

“Yeah, I woke up this morning and decided I wanted to look like a complete douchebag so I thought I’d copy you,” she teased back. Even through the black eye, she was still smiling. She got along ok being back with the MES and working alongside other random teams for missions but she still really missed being with Hesh. He had really grown on her to the point that not being around him almost physically hurt. 

“Am I alright? Like…mentally? No. Probably not. Physically? Yeah. I’m a fucking tank.” She chuckled before shaking her head. “Yeah, I’m perfectly fine. Just got knocked around a bit.”

“I’m surprised you’re not even slightly concerned about the fact that you’re starting to sound like me.” Then he reached up and ruffled her hair, “Oh and uh, you might wanna get that eye checked, too. Just saying. So, has there been anything new? Anything interesting? Remember when we managed to glue Merrick’s ass to his office chair?”

It was as if someone else was speaking for him and urging him to cater mischief to the base. He truly felt like a different person around War, and often did he find himself acting the way he did when Logan was around. The big brother. Lively. His laughter would echo through the halls, and for days it seemed like he would be unable to wipe the smile off his face. If War was there, he was truly happy.

He was hoping that they would be able to see each other more often, even though he knew that it was terribly unlikely.
