ok, i really just want to be done with all of this. but clearly, i'm not getting away from it any time soon. so if that's the case, i'm gonna deal with it on my own fucking terms.
instead of taking this as the ragebait it so clearly is, i'm instead taking it as an opportunity to express just how dangerously manipulative this whole situation was.
everyone knows i was financially reliant on Avid. our music was my main source of income, he was consistently giving me editing work, and he bought me a new computer when our old one died so i could continue doing both of those things. i can see why people might think i would be letting this shape my opinions of him.
the reality couldn't be further from the truth. the fact i was so dependent on him terrified me. i told him this to his face multiple times. i have messages in our DMs telling him that i did not like that he was my sole source of income, and that i wanted to diversify.
i also have a message from a month after this all started directly telling Avid that i am *choosing* to trust him. i told him, point blank, that i did not like how little information i had, but that i was choosing to believe him because he was my friend and i had no reason not to. he had surgically designed a situation where we had no reason good enough not to believe him - because why would someone who had been so trustworthy and generous be lying? i'm certain that's what he wanted us all to believe.
i really have to emphasize, this was my biggest fear for the past several months. and in the interest of really driving home that point, i'll share that message i mentioned.
after that, we called for 2 hours, and he simply reiterated on the same limited information he had been giving us. i had no reasonable choice but to believe him. he was my friend, and he had given me no reason to think he would lie to me.
when i got the call from Viking two weeks ago, it was like being in a horror movie. every fear that Avid had tempered was realized in one moment. i wanted to throw up. i ugly cried in that call because it meant that Avid knew the entire time exactly what he was doing. claiming that my trust was blind is not only an insult to anyone who trusted him, including his friends, all of SBK, Box, Peep, his fans, subscribers, and financial backers. it also takes away from the severity of just how dangerous and manipulative his actions were.
he used me and my trust. i put emphasis on this because it shows that this didn't just happen. it was done with intention. it is so incredibly important to remember that so that we can all better understand the extent of this manipulation, and hopefully spare others of becoming victims of similar manipulations.
