TOP 5 LGBTQ Films I Liked (JUNE is Pride Month)
1. Call Me By Your Name- this indie romantic drama gave me nostalgia. Captivated by the soundtrack, location, cinematography, summery 80s fashion and the beloved characters of Elio and Oliver. The sex scenes doesn’t felt porn but it was beautifully executed. The lines/quotes are unforgettable. Waiting for this sequel Find Me and i would adore to buy these 2 novels to immerse myself in their sweet moments.
Fave Soundtrack: Mystery of Love by Surjan Stevens (has that dreamy vibe makes you longing for a lusty love.)
2. Love, Simon- this mainstream teen rom-com gave me all feels. Dedicated for closeted gays who’s afraid in coming out is a highly recommended movie. No sexual content just pure bromance. By far the most relatable film for me because his life has that resemblance. A Disney+ rebooted series is in the works so stay tuned.
Fave Soundtrack: Strawberries & Cigarettes by Troye Sivan (love the indie electropop hunch.)
3. Alex Strangelove- this netflix teen rom-com tells about Alex Truelove a class A school president student virgin who is in a relationship with his lab partner girlfriend Claire then he met an openly gay graduate Elliot which is the reason of his confusing sexuality. It’s hilariously charming and empathetic.
Fave Soundtrack: The Promise by Mint Julep (the background song at the ending gave me goosebumps.)
4. Die Beautiful- this critically acclaimed filipino comedy film tells about the story of Trisha a transgender woman who dreams of becoming a beauty queen who also turns out to be a make up artist for the dead. It’s ridiculous and heartening in the ending. A spin-off series Born Beautiful is streamed online set after the events of DB featuring his gay bestfriend Barbs. Some scenes aren’t suitable for very young audiences.
5. 2 Cool 2 be 4gotten- this filipino indie coming of age drama film is reminiscent. Set in the late 90s it tells about Felix a friendless highschool achiever whose life changes when he met the Snyder brothers Magnus & Maxim entangling him in their dark ambitions. Story was simply well made, sensible and alluring. Redefining the landscape of queer films in the Philippines, Keep it up!
Fave Soundtrack: Okay, Okay, I’m Wrong I’m Sorry by Ourselves the Elves (Drawn by the indie melody and lyrics.)
These movies have a very special place in my heart because i relate to them. I consider myself gay because i’m physically, emotionally and sexually attracted to men so there’s nothing wrong about that. Love knows no gender and we are more than our gender. Being in the third sex is not a choice but it’s my innate nature and I’m very proud of it.
