So as I drive home, I refrain from drunk dialing CharlotteâŚthat doesnât quite work out as I had hoped. I call her and of course, she picks up like she always does.
-
She answers with the usual answer, âYouâre drunk, huh?âÂ
I reply with my usual reply, "UhhhhâŚnooooâŚâ
-
One thing leads to another and I convince her to go to Dennyâs with me, so instead of going home, I drive to Dennyâs to meet her. Usually, you regret drunk dialing people, but this is not the case. Our late night dinner actually turns out really well. A few of my drunken statements and her laughters later, we get lost in a meaningful conversation and exchange of words. It was a perfect way to end the nightâŚactually, it wasnât the perfect way to end my night. After paying for the tab, I decided this is not how the night is going to end.
-
I tell her, âLetâs go. Youâre coming with me.â
âWhere are we going?â
âJust somewhere to chillâŚâ
-
Without much more explanation or need for convincing, I open the door for her to get in my car. We take off to wherever the road takes usâŚwhich wasnât far. I ended up taking us to Eldridge Park to look over the lake. She discovers my Penguin Pillow/Blanket. I wrap her up in the blanket because on this cold lone night, we both were not going to be alone. Standing on the pier looking over the lake and gazing at the sky, we continue our meaningful conversation and exchange of words with my sober statements and her giggles.Â
Still, I wasnât satisfied with the night ending like this, as the temperature slowly drops along with the time counting down. The night had to come to an end. I drive her back to her car at Dennyâs. Already expecting it, Charlotte tells me sheâs taking my Penguin Pillow/Blanket no matter what I have to say about it. I feign ignorance and pretend to struggle to keep the Penguin Pillow/Blanket; when in actuality, I wanted her to take it. She of course, keeps it. Itâs finally time for us to part ways. I share the softest, longest, yet shortest hug I wanted to share with her. You know, not the regular hug, but a hug you donât ever want to end. Not the long awkward one, but it was one of those hugs that could warm up any soul on a cold winter night. My soul was as warm as her warmth and arms wrapped around meâŚ
I made sure to text her that I made it home, safe and sound, and before I fell asleep, she texted me:
12/11/13 - 4:05AM
âThank you for tonight. I had fun!(:â
THAT was the perfect way to end the night. Knowing I could share an unforgettable night with her and that she enjoyed every single second of it. THAT was exactly how I wanted the night to end. It was perfectâŚ
Hands down, this is the best day I can ever remember.
Iâll always remember the sound of the stereo,
the dim of the soft lights,
the scent of your hair that you twirled in your fingers,
and the time on the clock when we realized itâs so late,
and this walk that we shared together.
