                  FOREVER REMEMBERED
Nicola Peltz in Zaynâs âItâs You â Music Video
It took a few moments, but it all clicked into place. She was a vampire. His momentary lapse as heâd tried to help had caused him to completely forget about what some of these people were. Raking a hand through his hair, trying not to put weight on his injured ankle, Jack swore beneath his breath. He didnât know a lot about vampires, most of his knowledge was on wolves alone, but he understood one thing at least. ââ I donât know how many of you there are in here.. but nobody is healing at all. So I can pull that out, but it might.. it might be useless. If it doesnât pierce your heart on the way out, you could bleed out instead.. I need you to tell me what you want me to do, Violet.â
Violet closed her eyes for a moment and tried to imagine her life without the supernatural, without the pain and the bloodlust. Every thought she had led back to the very real situation she had gotten herself into. There were only two outcomes, life and - the one she dreaded most - death. âSorry if the realization that Iâm a vampire changes how you feel about helping me, but I desperately want to get out of this alive.â She nodded her head at him. âDo you know why we arenât healing?â If someone had an explanation for it, the problem could possibly be solved. The man in front of her was going to let her make the decision. Either let him leave, and die regardless, or have him pull the beam out of her body and possibly kill her in the process. She wasnât going to give up. âDo it.â There was a glimmer of hope in her, no matter how hard she tried to ignore it just so she wouldnât be let down by the outcome.
The desperation in her voice struck her somewhere she hadnât thought she could feel anymore. Her features softening, even slightly as she looked over at the girl sheâd spent more time with lately than her old friends. âI canât, Vi.â She tells her quietly. Helping her, would widen the cracks of her humanity.
âWhat do you mean?â The fear she felt was evident in her voice. Violetâs eyes widened when her once friend spoke. She watched as the other girlâs facial expression changed for a quick moment, only for it to return back to nothing, no emotion at all.Â
âNo, ViâŠâ His voice trailed off, painfully. He wiped her tears softly, his hands still shaking. âI-⊠you canât die.â Theodore added on, feeling himself tear up also. âI wonât let you die, you hear me?â She was too young, she was too wonderful to be a victim to death. Earlier on in the fair, he had even considered asking her out on a date. Now theyâre just an if, something that couldâve been. âI-⊠weâll go out after. Maybe that cute restaurant down town. Weâll go, youâll see. Then weâll shrug this off.â
âHow am I going to get out of this? How would you-â A twinge of pain racked through her, leaving her breathless. Her eyes were locked on his, barely blinking, and tears still streaming down her face. âYouâre not strong enough.â She said in barely a whisper. âIf I canât even free myself, how do you expect to?â The real questions were taking over Violetâs mind, harassing her thoughts.Â
âViolet.â He repeated, âPretty name..â Okay Violet. Just calm down okay. Look at me.â Jack asked quietly as instructed her to breathe in and out slowly. âJust take your time.. Thereâs no rush. Nobody is dying. I just need you to hold still, just let me take a look okay. If it hurts, tell me and Iâll stop. Is that okay?â
She tried to slow her breathing as the man beside her said. âThis wooden beam is two inches away from my heart.â She emphasized her voice on certain parts of the sentence. âOkay.â She nodded her head.
âItâs right in there, isnât it?â She asked, almost comically. âYou must have the worst luck.â With a small smile she sauntered closer, ark hues looking over the blonde and the beam in her chest. âi donât think I can.â She shrugged, âIf I could, then you would have done it yourself already. I could just, accidentally..â The tip of her finger flicking the edge of the wood as she bit down on her bottom lip, âfinish the job.â
Violet let out a bitter laugh at Caitlynâs words. âGet it off of me, Caityln.â She raised her voice as the other fledgling played her stupid games. She had to lay her head back, just lifting it to speak to someone made her tired. Her ribs hurt, she couldnât think straight, and her body was cold. Those werenât good signs in her case. âDonât you dare. Just help me for once.â
Letha gave a small nod, something curt that suggested she would at least try. It was the right thing to do, right? But her own mind was jumbled with the shock of the blast, and as she neared the rubble and took a moment to find a sturdy enough piece to place her hands.
She was not terribly strong ⊠only as strong as a human blessed by a witch could be â and while she was meant to stand against the worst of the nasty creatures she had faced it wasnât anything to lifting a building off of someone. Only when it budged in the slightest did Letha attempt to push it away. But all of her concentration was on the task, she couldnât tell of the blonde could move. Through gritted teeth she spoke,
âIs that enough?â
Violet was getting her hopes up when the woman nodded her head to helping her. Even if she couldnât move it by herself, she could possibly find some help. Where is Aemilia? The thought raced through her mind, though she didnât know if Aemilia would be welcoming to help her.
A scream escaped Violetâs lips as the woman pushed the beam that had fallen on top of her. âStop, stop!â She felt every centimeter of movement the beam made inside her chest. The woman stopped soon after, and the beam fell back to where it was before, right over Violetâs heart.Â
The scream was something Theo had no problem distinguishing. Those very collection of sound waves would seemingly haunt him for the rest of his life, it appeared. He suffered no injuries, his body still unharmed. Yet, he finally spotted the blonde. The blonde who had a blunt object pierced through her body. It was then, in that moment, when Theo felt all the fair food he had eaten come back up. It was reminiscent of a battlefield, death and chaos present in all aspects of the fairground. He ran as fast as his legs would take him, collapsing beside her on his knees and scanning the injury.
â⊠Violet. Youâre gonna be okay.â It was a murmur that mimicked his uncertainty, as if he wished for that to be on display. A steady lump had formed in his throat, shaky hands attempting to figure out a way to help her. âI promise.â
Violetâs eyes fell closed as she heard the pounding footsteps coming toward her. She wasnât sure anyone could help her at this point. She let a building fall on top of her, it sounded more ridiculous by the second. There was a familiarity to the voice that spoke her name and promises of her safety. âTheo...â Tears sprung in her eyes, and a sob escaped her throat. It was only when she heard his words, âYouâre gonna be okay. I promise.â that she knew she wouldnât be. It was the first time she actually thought dying would be a possibility. She had only been alive for nineteen years. That wasnât nearly long enough, especially for someone who was promised eternal life.
âIâm not going to be okay.â She said with anger in her voice. âIâm going to die, arenât I?â The tears lingered on her cheek.
âAlright alright..â He called back, âIâm here, just.. stop moving.â Jack didnât know how to deal with this kind of thing.. Last time heâd run into a burning building to save his sister â even though she wasnât in there, and that same react first, think after was something he planned to do this time around. âJust breathe.. Come one.. â Whatâs your name?â
âI can hardly breath.â She let the words fumble out of her mouth, shakily. Her body felt useless. What was the point of being a vampire if she couldnât use her abilities to get out of situations like this? âViolet.â She locked eyes with the man beside her. âI need... to get this off of me!â Her voice raised and her breathing sped up significantly. âI donât want to die!â
For all the years she worked in her particular field Letha was admittedly shitty with giving sympathy in times of need. She wasnât entirely certain how people could spare tears in moments like these. All she knew was the shell shock that her body was experience, coupled with the small scrapes and burns here and there, and the tiniest trickle of blood slowly rolling down her forehead. The cry for help snapped her out of her reverie enough to shift her feet over the debris, to curiously (albeit in a manner not unlike a zombie) Letha peered in. The trapped blonde had her cocking her head.
âI ⊠I canât lift that,â her voice sounded foreign to herself, hollow as if there was nothing she could do to tinge emotion to it. âI could find someone âŠâ
Violetâs breath caught in her throat as she saw the older woman making her way over to her trapped body. She had to take shallow breaths, so that the wooden beam wouldnât move any closer to her heart. Iâll get out of this, she thought. Someone was coming to help her, she wasnât going to die yet. How this woman was going to get the pieces of the broken building off of her was something she hadnât thought about, she was just happy she had any help at all.Â
âJust... move it, please.â She grunted when she spoke. Her ribs hurt, they must have been broken.
Clearly, unlike that girl before her, Caitlyn had taken full advantage of the chaos surrounding them. Taking the last seconds of several peoples lives from them â a small reprieve from the painful deaths they were granted as shE drained them entirely. The spluttered pleas from the other fledgling pulled her from the broken shadows, the brunette wiping the last of the blood from her lips  as she looked her over. ââ Why would I do something like that?â
âCaitlyn-â Her breathing was ragged. Violet tried to keep herself from moving too much, as she could feel the wooden beam pressing closer to her heart with each breath. It scraped the outside of her heart and she let out a low scream. âCaitlyn, get this shit off of me!â Her voice was filled with anger. Caitlyn just stood there, examining Violet, when she could have been saving her life. It looked as though she had drank enough blood to fill an army.
âI donât know.â He mumbled. The witch didnât know. He wanted company, but he wanted Savannah, Mackenzie, Cassidy, Shane, his dad, a whole litany of people that werenât here. The friendly face was some comfort, but not the one he sought.
âIt was nice meeting you, I guess.â She was horrible at comforting people in their time of need, and Godfrey was in the worst type of situation.
âIf you arenât healing⊠Not worth it.â He coughed. âDonât want to risk⊠Losing control if I turn.â
âWell, what the hell do you want me to do? Leave you here?â Violet asked with a bit more anger in her voice. âThis whole day has gone to shit.â
âIâm a lost cause.â He wheezed. âNo need to sugarcoat it. If you canât heal, a witch canât save me, and itâs too late for human medicine.â
âI can try, but you said you didnât want my blood.â She shook her head. âIf you came back... as a vampire, I could kill you... if you really wanted.â
âDo me a favor and plead my case to the Fates.â He said in a half assed attempt at a joke, breathing slightly easier with the weight off his injury. âWorry about yourself.â The witch tried to reassure you. âIâve done some shit. I probably do deserve it.â
âDonât be ridiculous, Godfrey.â Violet rolled her eyes for what seemed like the first time in forever. âYouâre getting out of here.â She tried to reassure him, even though it wasnât looking too good for the boy. âI stand a better chance of surviving than you do.â
It started with the explosions. Blacking out and waking up in complete chaos. Then Violet had been rushing around, trying to help familiar faces. She wasnât healing, and there was no explanation for why. The amount of blood around her was overwhelming. She was proud of herself for keeping control over her thirst for the injured peopleâs blood. As weak as she was, she should have just gotten out of there. Going home would have been the best option, but she felt as if there were something keeping her at the fairground. She sought refuge behind a building that looked like it would hold, despite the explosions very close by. It was in a flash that the building fell, trapping her underneath. It seemed that a wooden beam broken in half was at just the right angle to pierce her heart, though it wasnât there yet. She found herself screaming for help. If only she had left earlier, or even just gotten some blood, she would have been able to run out of the way of the falling building. But it was too late to think about that now.Â
âP-please...â She coughed out. âPlease help!â
