The cold was numbing. Every now and then, Felicity would have to reassess the situation she was in. Stop, inhale, exhale and think. Her dainty fingers felt as though they were about to fall off, the cold having it’s numbing effect to the maximum. A breath of condensed air left her near blue lips as Felicity stopped and thought about what she could possibly do to not feel so helpless. At the sound of the door, she glanced up. The door being open allowed a wave of air to enter the room, brunette locks flailing about as Felicity attempted to cover her face. Palm brought up to her eyes to shield, she could only hear the distant winds.
“Are you hurt?”
Her thought process could only handle only tragedy at a time as the girl was even more afraid that she’d have to take care of someone’s life ( she was o n l y a trainee doctor. )
“Can you please just... tell me what the plan is?”
He didn’t really answer. Not because he was trying to be difficult but because he could tell she was merely deviating the attention from herself to him. It was clear Felicity was in distress, that something was bugging her, and yet she was asking him if he was okay. He was. He was always alright. So when he took a few steps closer, enough to stand before her even if she was hiding her face with her hands, he just tilted his head and stared. “What’s wrong, Fel?”
The girl knew afterwards that asking was futile. She brought her face up to meet his expression and softened. “... I miss home.” Felicity admitted softly, her eyes locking with his. “You know...? It’s just... I was thinking about it when I woke up and I threw up. I feel ill.” It had turned into something barely above a whisper, but she trusted that Rhys would hear. The girl confided in him and was glad that she could do so. “But you didn’t answer my question, Zorro.”
Loving me is asking for disaster.
six words; forty-seven. (via bluejaysong)
He missed the rain, the foggy London sky, the chirping of the magpies by his window every morning. Good morning Mr. Magpie. How is your lady wife today? Legend said the greeting would ward off the bad luck. Maybe that’s where he had gone wrong. He had never really believed in any of those superstitious myths. Now the entire world had ran out of luck, it seemed, and boy! what he’d give for some light drizzle instead of this constant bloody snow.
Rhys kept staring into the vast, colorless horizon. The cold wind hit his skin, cutting, disdainful. He looked out there, into the neverending whiteness, for a sign that never really arrived. Some movement. The slightest change. Nothing. It was still all the same. Everything but the footsteps that approached him. He didn’t turn, trying to recognize the pace without interrupting his view. “You need to practice on your stealth.” He eventually added, eyes still focused ahead, voice welcoming regardless of his otherwise dismissing stance.
Felicity had grown n u m b to the cold now. Her lips were often nearing a shade of blue, fingers feeling as though they were about to fall of her very hands. The only issue was that the brunette needed to control it, for the fact that being a doctor in such conditions required skill and concentration that the environment juxtaposed. The horizon was a frightening area the brunette wished not to explore. What was truly out there? Were there other camps? Other people? What if they needed help? Her shift for shadowing Dr. Cain had ended, and she fought it’d be a good idea to see if everything was alright around the camp.
The crunch sound her shoes made when pressing against the snow was repetitive, the girl making her way to the kitchen to see if help was required before her brown hues caught the figure standing out. Rhys, she could make out. After an internal battle which made her ponder if she should go to him, she ultimately decided in favour of it and set forth to meet him.
Felicity approached what she branded the ‘unknown’ cautiously, flecks of snow settling on her face. As she her his voice, her body grew still. “You know, I’ve never been good at that.” A stupid smile was plastered on her face as the brunette moved closer, locks flailing about in the wind. “Is this a bad time?” Her tone was cautious, not wanting to disturb him if he was busy. The girl looked ahead also, locking eyes with the scenery. The girl took a sharp breath, attempting to take it all in. “It’s beautiful.”
Rhys had not even repeated his question a second time, his eyes doing all the inquiring instead and receiving the same response. Leaning against the wall, the guard simply crossed his arms this time, not saying another word, not coming closer. He just stared. “You can lie to me all you want, darling, but I don’t think you’re buying it yourself.” The man added softly.
“Rhys.” Felicity could recognise his voice from a mile away. She had no idea it was him. One palm flat against the wall, she ran a callous hand over her face. ( The trainee doctor had to compose herself. ) A few moments after, the girl softly added “I’m sorry...” in a tone laced with regret. Rhys was her close friend, if not the closest. Felicity thought that he knew her pretty well. “A-... Are you okay, Rhys?”
Luka was harmless and liked attention as much as any dog. Ronan certainly felt much better having her around. “She’s one. She looks younger though - doesn’t get to eat that much. She’s friendly though, wouldn’t hurt a fly.”
“Well, she’s very adorable. I imagine quite practical too.”
“Thanks for letting me pet her.”
If Aerin hadn’t been standing so close she would have missed Felicity speaking her name. It’d been spoken so softly, lost in the wind instantly but it was enough. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to tell that the brunette wasn’t being completely honest but in the grand scheme of things it didn’t really matter. All that did matter was that Aerin got her out of this cold. Removing her hand from Felicity the blonde brought glove covered hands to push back her jacket’s hoodie before pulling the beanie underneath it off.
Once her hoodie was back in place she was pushing her beanie over Felicity’s blowing brunette locks an act that was quickly followed by her arm wrapping itself around the brunette’s shoulder. Gently shifting friend’s body in her direction. “You know what kind of cures home sickness? Soup and lucky for you I think that’s what they are serving for breakfast today. So what do you say, eat with me?“ She questioned the corner of her lips turning up in the softest of smiles.
As the beanie was placed over her hair, Felicity displayed a warm smile. “You’re the best.” Felicity truthfully said, before finding herself facing Aerin. “You know, I’d absolutely love to.” The brunette said, a heavy sigh leaving her lips to get rid of all the bad emotions she had pent up beforehand. “Thank you for everything.” Felicity said softly, chewing on her bottom lip. “Without you, I’d be completely lost.” It was another softly spoken statement, but she meant it completely.
“How have you been, Rin?”

It seemed that life in the camp was getting harder every day. Despite the fact that together they were most likely to thrive and survive, everybody seemed to break down at some point ─ some people were just better at hiding than others. When she asked to the girl if she was fine, she didn’t expect her a true answer, but it was clear to anyone passing by that she wasn’t. “Geez──” she hissed, rolling her eyes slightly, but Felicity couldn’t see since she was standing behind her.,“your voice says otherwise.”
She paused for a minute. “I am just trying to help, you know?”
“I’m so, so sorry.” The apology was genuine, her voice laced with regret. “I-... I just... I’m not in the best state, but I shouldn’t have taken it out on you.” Felicity said softly to the blonde.
Evan frowned. Obviously things weren’t okay or the two wouldn’t have found themselves in the current situation. But she didn’t have the right to comment–or the drive. Distantly she remembered she used to be far nosier than she was now, but curiosity killed the cat and Evan kind of liked being alive. “I’m fine,” she nodded, eyebrows still furrowed. She hadn’t been the one to raise her voice. “I don’t need anything, no. We were just going to head out to see if we could find anything. I’m goin’ around asking if anyone wants me to look for anything specific.”
“I doubt there’d be chocolate.” Felicity joked, a laugh escaping her lips. She was attempting to make herself feel better. “Be safe, please.”
“If you say so,” Ronan mumbled. Everyone broke down here once in a while, especially when they had something they wanted to go back to somebody. Ronan considered himself lucky he didn’t have that problem. “Do you want to pet Luka?” He asked, “She’s very understanding. Just full of empathy.”
A soft smile grew on her face. Felicity didn’t know Ronan too well, but he seemed harmless to her. “Yes, I’d love to.” The brunette stated before lowing herself to Luka’s level, putting her hand out so that Luka could sniff it first. “How old is she?”
Hunger ultimately was what pulled the blonde from her bed this morning. Her stomach retaliating against her habit of skipping meals with stomach pains. In all honesty Aerin knew she could probably get away with waiting until at least lunch to eat but in an effort to be nicer to her body she got dressed and left her cabin. Her worn out boots crunching the the layer of fresh snow underneath her. The temperature felt slightly lower than yesterday but the blonde still breathed a sigh of relief as the main cabin came to view but their wooden headquarter wasn’t the only thing that caught her attention. Silently signaling for one of the new member of camps to leave Felicity alone and go on ahead Aerin cautiously approached her friend, laying a gentle hand on her shoulder. “Fe, it’s me. Are you…are you sure you’re okay?”
“Aerin.” Felicity repeated her friend’s name softly, almost as if saying it out loud would comfort her. The blonde was someone who she trusted the most, and now she felt completely vulnerable. The hand calmed her down, almost reminded the brunette of the warmth she would’ve had elsewhere. She was lucky to have Aerin. “I-... I will be.” The King girl stated softly. It was better than lying to Aerin’s face. “I just... feel a little ill, you know? Maybe homesick. I-I don’t know.”
Evan took a slight step back, raising her chin ever so slightly at the strong insistence in the other girl’s words. “Are you… sure?” she asked hesitantly, eyebrows furrowed in concern. It was something the other probably didn’t want to hear (or answer again) but it did need to be asked.
Felicity blinked multiple times, attempting to piece who it was. It was too blurry. “I am.” A warm ( fake ) smile was exchanged after, turning to the girl. “Are you okay? Do you need something, doll?”
“No need to snap.” Diem raised her hands and rolled her eyes. She could hardly handle her own emotions, much less those of another. “Just get dressed – you’re gonna be late for your shift.”
A pang of guilt lingered in her stomach shortly after. “I’m sorry.” Felicity apologised, palm flat against a wall. It was numb with the cold. Would she throw up again? “Yeah. I’ll... just be a few.”
“I smell pants burnin’,” Ronan muttered bluntly. He didn’t do anything, simply staying where he was and watching Felicity. If she passed out or something then that would be awkward and he’d like to prevent that. “Maybe you should…sit down?”
The brunette softened at the sight of Ronan. Although, her vision was blurred so she was guessing it was Ronan. Felicity blinked several times, a quick pause. “I’ll be fine.” Her voice was soft, having no intentions of worrying him further.
“I said I’m fine.” Felicity repeated once, voice shaking as she attempted to steady herself. ( It was at times like these that she missed home so much. )
