One of the many pathetic things about the “both sides are the same” centrists who wrap up their apathy in radikewl rhetoric is how they pretend it’s a mystery why life instantly gets significantly worse the minute Democrats leave office and Republicans take over. They’ll blame Democrats for things that aren’t actually their fault (like decisions by the 6-3 conservative SCOTUS (the same SCOTUS these people repeatedly screamed they couldn’t be “blackmailed” over in 2016)) but act like the horror Republicans openly do are mere forces of nature. They’ll start screaming when, let’s say, you point out that from 2021-2024, millions of people didn’t lose their healthcare via Medicaid cuts in a budget bill and skyrocketing ACA premiums, there was zero warmongering against a NATO ally, hundreds of thousands of people had TPS status who don’t have it today and weren’t vulnerable to deportation, new citizens’ oath ceremonies weren’t being canceled to prevent them from completing the final step in becoming citizens, there was no National Guard deployed to American cities against the wishes of those states’ governors, and over 600k people who have died thus far from USAID cuts were still alive. They pretend it’s a mere coincidence that none of these things happened under Democrats but they all happened over the past calendar year alone after Republicans took power again.
Of course, they just lie about all of this because they need to pretend there’s no difference between the two parties and nothing actually changes depending on who’s in charge to keep trying to justify their unjustifiable anti-voting ideology, because once people realize that—gee, Republicans are actually doing heinous things that Democrats never did during their administrations—then they correctly judge the moral frauds for refusing to do the bare minimum to stop the far-right from winning. There’s just so much lying and ignoring reality with these people to justify not voting in a democracy. Again: pathetic.
