February month at a glance. How fun are Dutch Doors?

The paper comes from Kikki K Paper Lovers book, which I couldn’t resist. So does the glitter tape.

The water colour for the quote I painted myself. It’s one of the exercises in the Domestika course I’m doing. Giving it another purpose.

I can’t remember who said the quote, but if you google it I’m sure it will come up. Particularly fitting for me as I’m looking at quitting my job in May to change direction completely.

January weekly spreads.

My favourite is week three.

I couldn’t decide if I should include the first few days of Feb in the final week or start a new page. I wish I had started a new page.

Monthly spreads.

Historically I have done a traditional calendar monthly spread, however I didn’t really use it that much. So I have changed to having the At a Glance and goals on my front page.

Cleaning tracker is a new one for me, habit tracker I wanted to be a bit more creative. I’m on holidays so I have the time.

Day 6&7 week 5

Filling up my journal.

Since collage and water colours were both something I really enjoyed doing I though I would combine the two.

I experimented with the water colours that I bought a big kit of. Painting rectangles of colours on pages. Then I cut up all of those rectangles in random shapes and placed them on a page to create a picture of a sunset over the ocean.

To add an extra texture to the painted shapes I used a white crayon before painting to create different shapes within the shapes. Kind of like what we did in primary school art class.

Filling my book.

Went to a mates place in the hills, so much inspiration for the type of things I like to draw.

Here is a water colour I did with the photo reference next to it.

Filling up my journal

This started as one thing and ended up as another, which is typical of how I do things.

The original idea was to emulate the masks from an earlier task but make full bodies instead of just masks.

They ended up looking like paper dolls, like I used to have as a kid.

The one in pink looks out of place because it’s bigger than the others.

Day 6&7 week 5

All of the prompted tasks are done, now I need to fill the remainder of my journal. Making up my own pages or repeating pages that I enjoyed.

Here is a doodle I did while watching Fashion Photo Ruview with Raja and Raven.

Day 6&7 week 5

This was the last set task of the assignment. Make marks with a car or bicycle tyre.

I thought it was a bit rude to ask us to run over our books after working on them for five weeks. But then my husband pointed out that you didn’t need to run over them to get the marks.

We removed a tyre from one of our bikes and I used that to make impressions from the tyre.

First I tried putting paint on the page and running the tyre over that. That wasn’t too effective. Then I put paint on the tyre itself and that worked much better.

Day 5 week 5

Write a word 50 times on a page.

I chose gobsmackingly after reading it in an article while looking for pictures of politicians. It’s such a great word, it has round letters and letters that reach down from the word and letters that reach up. It’s got letters that are just straight lines.

Finding 50 different ways to write the word and fit them all into one page was also fun. I wanted to make the shapes of the words as interesting as possible.

Day 4 week 5

Print out photos of Australian politicians and make a collage.

Grab any newspaper and there will be pictures of politicians in it. Which is exactly what I did.

I already had a idea that I wanted to use dinosaurs in my collage but then I found this amazing picture in one of the mags that I have and was stoked that it fit so perfectly with the idea that I already had.

Day 1,2 &3 week 5

Monday’s task was to write about what happened in an episode of TV you watched (or a movie). I wrote about the first episode of Drag Race UK. Not worth sharing a picture of though.

Tuesday and Wednesday were exactly the same so I have added them together. Make sketches and write notes on your other subjects.

As I am not doing other subjects I just did some sketching. I started with a basic tutorial on how to sketch circles and then ad Light and shade. This bored me pretty quickly so I soon found an article on how to draw flowers.

I am happy with the final results, I like drawing flowers.

Day 6&7 week 4

Using a needle and thread sew a design onto at least one page, you may use a sewing machine if you have access to one.

THIS is my jam. As you can see from the multitude of pages.

The reason why I’m even doing an art degree is that I want to be a textile artist.

The heart was a previous design from an earlier assignment that I wanted to perfect. I was also interested in making the back of the design it’s own piece so I added scraps of fabric before stitching the design for an added layer.

The circle design came from my recent experience in mandalas. I had bought a compass and a protractor to continue making them so I used these to measure the points. Initially starting with one layer I ended up doing three as I wanted to see what it looked like. Switching up how I did the back, again to make it’s own design.

The strips of fabric sewn onto the page I had been thinking about for a while. I was given several large bags of scraps and this fabric was by far my favourite. It only came in long thin strips so I sewed them all together to cover the page. The opposite side gave me vertical lines so I extended this to go around a picture I stuck on the other side.

Day 5 week 4

Visit the Art Gallery and respond to an exhibition anyway you choose.

We are very fortunate here in South Australia to have an exhibition by Chiharu Shiota: Absence Embodied it’s such an awesome piece of art. I find it so difficult to express in words the feeling you get standing in this room.

This piece of art was created in situ especially for us in that room and it raises so many questions for me. When you create something like this, how much of it is to plan and how much of it is on the spot?

I would love to have seen it as it unfolded, it would have been a magnificent thing to watch these balls of yarn become the structure that it is.

I used red yarn I had already and staples to do these pages. It was fun weaving the yarn through itself to create the spaces.

Every time you open and close this page the shape of the yarn will be slightly different.

Day 4 week 4

Across two facing pages draw/write something you don’t want anyone else to see. Obliterate it then stick the pages together.

Here are my pages before I stuck them together.

I like the effect of the obliteration, that looks cool.

But I found this task to be such a waste of time. What’s stopping me from just sticking two pages together without actually drawing/writing anything on them.

It’s not even that they won’t be visible by other people that shits me, it’s more that I can’t refer back to them later.

On the positive side, it used up one of the backs of the oil painting pages. It looked like it had been used for wrapping hot chips it was so oily.
