from the VERY BEGINNING, she’d told herself to be careful – to not get too close ; TO STAND HER GROUND ; to not fall for petty tricks. why? it was a means of protecting herself. a means of preventing what proved to be the inevitable: her succumbing to the machinations of the very woman she KNEW she should not trust.

being the victim of such deceptions angered her. anger for her becoming the prey, and for Barbara becoming the predator ; anger for her own stupidity when she ALWAYS knew this was bound to happen. it burned within her to the point of consummation ; it STILL burns, those flames rendering ANY sympathy for Oracle’s ( seemingly ) desperate plight to mere ash.

in spite of her ire, Helena cannot help but feel…tired. tired from fighting a constant battle – of constantly, EXHAUSTIVELY being on guard. what would it be like to simply let go and be vulnerable? Helena didn’t believe she truly knew.
