The Glass We Never Notice
We call a window transparent
as if it isn't there
We look through it every day
at the sky, at people passing by, at places we cannot reach
and somehow forget that there is a sheet of glass between us and all of it
Maybe that's what makes glass so strange
It does its job best when we don't notice it
And maybe some things in life are like that
The things holding us together are rarely the things we look at
The roof doesn't ask to be admired
The ground doesn't ask if we noticed it caught us
The air doesn't remind us that we're breathing it
Perhaps the most important things become invisible precisely because they never stop being there
And maybe that's why we only realise how much something meant
when it finally becomes visible
not because it changed,
but because it stopped being there
